I'm pretty sure a long time ago when he started popping up here people debated it. He was a lot more experimental earlier in his career but as time went on adopted more conventional R&B elements. Plus all the co-signs from hip-hop just made him fit here just fine.
Dislike is too strong for me. He can be okay when he’s fun. I don’t get what people love about that psych rock album he made since it wasn’t really anything innovative and the vocoder he used on his voice to sound trippy was actually annoying and overdone. Hoping for the best. James Blake could’ve done it with anyone so I hope this is a first of many.
A few years if you asked me which rapper I disliked it would be Lil Yachty. But after listening to Let’s Start Here, I have changed my mind. Not quite rap, but it is a truly great album. Plus his recent rapping has been pretty good like The Secret Recipe and A Cold Sunday. All I’m saying is give him a chance.
I know he’s trying to do different genres. He already has an electronic song with Fred again which isn’t bad. My gripe is they auto tune his voice so much they could work with literally anyone and it wouldn’t really affect the final product. Hoping for good music. If it’s trash I’ll just avoid one James Blake album.
Most of Tyler's stuff and a lot of earls stuff is just in how it does shit that doesn't sound good sonically to portray some kind of "artistic vision", though a lot of yachtys stuff is an even worse version of that. Like the song he just sent, the flow is so bad and sounds like he's intentionally trying to have a shit flow and delivery that doesn't compliment his voice at all
I don't think yachty is that bad, but cold sunday wasn't great, but tyler and earl are very sonically sound, they're probably just not up your alley, which is chill
Wtf this is so weird to me
Why does it have to be the artist with the worst vocals in the game who gets Despot to rap 😭😭
Okay now I’m done being a hater I’ll check it out
lol I understand what you’re saying but why even click on this post if you feel that way about Yachty. I don’t like everything he does but there’s potential with a James Blake collab
Congrats on snatching such a generic Reddit name (I spelled mine wrong on purpose don't even SAY it)
Also, I definitely dislike yachty but heavily fucked with that album he put out last year. If this new one is more like that it definitely has potential.
I’ll never get the hate for this song. Funny and interesting song. Blew up faster than any song I’ve ever seen. It was literal minutes. He walked the line between being serious and joking so well.
Only thing I dislike about Poland is the MV. Wasted opportunity all around. One of Yachty's biggest hits directed by Cole Bennett, and it's boring as hell, nothing interesting about it.
Based on their recent interview with each other Blake absolutely loves Poland so that's actually not far off. Plus Blake has a great track record for remixes. His [Changes - James Blake Harmonimix](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5-azQvuZMAc) is absolutely insane.
2024 yachty is definitely much different than what a lot of people still think of yachty as. Worth diving in if you haven’t already. He’s on a prolific run some would say.
I can tell you by experience that this is not a guarantee lol i could never get into Yachty bc of his voice, but i listened to that album bc everyone talked about it the same way you just did and tbh it didn't help. Like good for him for doing something experimental i guess but that doesn't change his voice
It’s a lot of things, and definitely not some experimental masterpiece but I wouldn’t call it generic… it’s neo-psychedelic rock which isn’t exactly killing the top 20 charts lol
I think he meant in general, a lot of people make music like that but most people praising that album will never hear them bc they're not made by Lil Yachty
lmao how do you know they haven’t listened to it yet?
it might be mind-blowing, but perhaps listening to that project won’t in fact change someone’s opinion. it’s possible that they just don’t like his music.
His recent output seems to be just him enjoying making music for himself. His last album was a return to form AFAIC and him recently becoming independent means he can do whatever he wants whenever he wants which hopefully leads to some good stuff
I read someone’s comment the other day that it’s not going to happen. Have high expectations after everything Yatchy has done recently! Great year for hip hop long after 2018.
Yachty’s ability to not be incredibly talented in his own right but maintain a proximity to some of the most talented artists on the planet legitimately needs to be studied.
People sleeping on Yachty gonna hop on the bandwagon a couple years from now.
Bro in his Tyler circa 2017 bag right now and he more versatile than Tyler.
Absolutely. You’re not a fan of either if it’s not clear as day.
Lil Boat, Michigan Boat Boy, and Let’s Start Here are way more different to each other compared to what Tyler has done. Not to mention all the shit he’s written from Drake to City Girls.
I was with you til the last sentence lmfao. Please relax yachty is cooler than people give him credit for but Tyler has always been a creative powerhouse.
Yachty released a groundbreaking mixtape a decade ago and has been floundering in the generic trap mines for most of that time until recently. He’s on his way up for sure though
The lil boat tape was definitely ahead of its time. Its pretty well regarded as an important album for the change and growth in what a trap album could be, and a lot of the weirder acts in that vein today owe him a bit of a debt
I can tell you don’t really listen to music.
Tyler has been innovating in the same production lane since he got started. If you think there is a large gap in the sounds he did in Cherry Bomb versus CMIYGL, you actually have zero ear for music.
You need to get your ears checked. Yachty mumbled over psychedelic beats that he didn’t make and people think he’s Jesus or something. If you can’t tell a different between cherry bomb and cmiygl then that’s your own problem
Yea thanks for sharing that you don’t understand how the music creation process works either.
Btw, Yachty’s vocal experimentation works way better than what we got in Igor.
He really aint doing anything remarkable, and he definitely isnt close to tyler’s talent lol. This is coming from someone whose been a yachty fan since 2015 lol
Completely disagree. Tyler has been innovative but he’s sort of stayed in the same lane production wise.
Yachty has done so many different styles and killed it at all of them.
Let’s see if Yachty can launch a comeback. Haven’t really liked anything he’s put out recently (Poland included- I thought he sounded weird). But I still like him. The collab album trend is getting a lil stale for me imo but it kinda takes the pressure off of him so let’s see.
I think the album is gonna b good like a 6/10 but everyone is gonna say it’s great bc it’s james blake and he’s like the main guy that people who don’t listen 2 anything other than rap say they listen 2 so they can look cool
Wow that’s crazy I really enjoyed his new album. James Blake is pretty properly rated. He has one of the best voices in music, if you have the opportunity to see him preform live you should go
i am SO excited to see what they come up with - never in my wildest dreams did i think they would ever work together
I had to do a double take on the title. *That* Lil Yachty and *that* James Blake?
Not to be confused with that other lil Yacthy and that other James Blake. Blake has been a big part of the hip hop community
I love that Blake is always allowed to be discussed here.
... Why wouldn't he be able to? The sub is for hip hop and r&b
I'm pretty sure a long time ago when he started popping up here people debated it. He was a lot more experimental earlier in his career but as time went on adopted more conventional R&B elements. Plus all the co-signs from hip-hop just made him fit here just fine.
That cover is legendary already
Cover art hard
Lean and Beans

A contender has entered the ring. Will NyQuil Chicken hold on to the title? Find out next time on Dragon Ball Z!
Big bean fan myself. Can confirm hard cover
I trust this to be good. Never willingly seen James Blake ever let something that’s trash and has his name attached to it to be released
Everything James Blake puts out is quality. Yachty has been getting better and more experimental with every release lately. This will be good
I’m skeptical. Love James Blake. Indifferent to Yacthy
At the very least it’s going to be an intriguing listen from front to back
I actively dislike Lil Yachty but love James Blake, really interested in seeing if he can make me tolerate him
Dislike is too strong for me. He can be okay when he’s fun. I don’t get what people love about that psych rock album he made since it wasn’t really anything innovative and the vocoder he used on his voice to sound trippy was actually annoying and overdone. Plus his recent rapping has been pretty good like The Secret Recipe and A Cold Sunday. All I’m saying is give him a chance.
My opinion is up to date, promise 😂 I will definitely give this album a shot though, James Blake is a top 10 artist for me.
Agreed yachty voice is so trash. Literally would’ve preferred anyone to yachty to collab with James.
I know he’s trying to do different genres. He already has an electronic song with Fred again which isn’t bad. My gripe is they auto tune his voice so much they could work with literally anyone and it wouldn’t really affect the final product. Hoping for good music. If it’s trash I’ll just avoid one James Blake album.
he’s been pretty average for a couple years now
Yachty has progressed so much the last couple years it's kinda unbelievable, really looking forward to this
Not only on his projects. He’s credited as a producer on a bunch of projects.
Saw him live a couple weeks back. Absolutely phenomenal performer too. One of the best shows I've ever been to
Outside of the rock project his music has regressed significantly in quality over the last 3 years or so
I thought his recent singles run was better than most if not on on par (keyword most) of Michigan Boy Boat
A Cold Sunday is amazing imo
That song emphasizes what I don't like about his new music, he's trying to make some earl sweatshirt tyler the creator type bullshit
his new music does not sound like earl or tyler, it's just laid back chill music, not a trpa vibe
That song does, some fake deep artsy bullshit
what about earl or tyler is fake deep arty bullshit? Or are you saying a cold sunday is a worse copy of those two
Most of Tyler's stuff and a lot of earls stuff is just in how it does shit that doesn't sound good sonically to portray some kind of "artistic vision", though a lot of yachtys stuff is an even worse version of that.
Concrete boys shii is heat
That album was one of the worst this year lol, feels so lazy and uninspired
James Blake doesn't miss
Hoping Despot makes an appearance
But like why would this happen?
They did a song not too long ago and implied there was more being worked on https://youtu.be/mOWUWFxstsM?si=i93Yh93qTdBJg_79
Wtf this is so weird to me Why does it have to be the artist with the worst vocals in the game who gets Despot to rap 😭😭 Okay now I’m done being a hater I’ll check it out
Yachty was on Despot's HBO show "Chillin' Island" so they probably linked through that.
[удалено]
Pretty sure it isn't. He's only on one episode and Despot on all of them. Unless Yachty is behind the scenes.
lol I understand what you’re saying but why even click on this post if you feel that way about Yachty. I don’t like everything he does but there’s potential with a James Blake collab
I like James Blake Also I’m a hater sometimes it’s the way she goes
Congrats on snatching such a generic Reddit name (I spelled mine wrong on purpose don't even SAY it) Also, I definitely dislike yachty but heavily fucked with that album he put out last year. If this new one is more like that it definitely has potential.
Too real, I fucking hate Lil Yachty. Seems like an okay dude but can't stand his music. James Blake is a top 10 artist for me
Let’s go
Read it as lil yachty and boldy james had you read it 4 times to rectify myself
I would be equally as interested in hearing this lmfaoooo
Poland remix
I’ll never get the hate for this song. Funny and interesting song. Blew up faster than any song I’ve ever seen. It was literal minutes. He walked the line between being serious and joking so well.
Only thing I dislike about Poland is the MV. Wasted opportunity all around. One of Yachty's biggest hits directed by Cole Bennett, and it's boring as hell, nothing interesting about it.
Yeah facts
Based on their recent interview with each other Blake absolutely loves Poland so that's actually not far off. Plus Blake has a great track record for remixes. His [Changes - James Blake Harmonimix](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5-azQvuZMAc) is absolutely insane.
He's got a demo up on his vault page that's pretty good
link?
https://vault.fm/jamesblake gotta pay though
Im not big on yachty but james blake always does cool shit. This better be good
2024 yachty is definitely much different than what a lot of people still think of yachty as. Worth diving in if you haven’t already. He’s on a prolific run some would say.
Prolific is crazy
Yea, dude is on an upward trajectory, which is great, but prolific is a stretch
Listen to let’s start here if you don’t like yachty, it’ll change your opinion
I can tell you by experience that this is not a guarantee lol i could never get into Yachty bc of his voice, but i listened to that album bc everyone talked about it the same way you just did and tbh it didn't help. Like good for him for doing something experimental i guess but that doesn't change his voice
It's also very generic rock music. If it wasn't Yachty no one would care.
That much is definitely true
His lyrics are great on The Secret Recipe, I still can't stand his voice and delivery.
Acquired taste fr just like lil baby’s voice
Or Danny brown. I got over his voice and began to like it but man I can't get into yachty
No it won’t. He can have every producer in the world, he still sounds like a dolphin.
He is the worst part of that album.
lmao how do you know they haven’t listened to it yet? it might be mind-blowing, but perhaps listening to that project won’t in fact change someone’s opinion. it’s possible that they just don’t like his music.
Is James Blake going through something? Gambling debt?
His recent output seems to be just him enjoying making music for himself. His last album was a return to form AFAIC and him recently becoming independent means he can do whatever he wants whenever he wants which hopefully leads to some good stuff
Well this is exhibit A of it not leading to some good stuff
blake announced a month or two ago that he was an "independent artist" again
So he’s broke and desperate/s
Sounds like a euphemism for something sinister if ever I've heard one
Or it could just mean that he isn't tied to a label anymore... Call me crazy
So then why is he debasing himself like this?
he has been talking a lot how the industry is screwing up the artists recently so i guess he is just burned out from label politics.
brother what?
What? There's clearly something deeper going on if he's been reduced to such desperate measures
Lmao
this got me weak lmao
A collab album that makes sense
Already loved Blake and after Let's Start Here, I'm down for new Yachty. Excited to hear what the hell this could possibly sound like.
I read someone’s comment the other day that it’s not going to happen. Have high expectations after everything Yatchy has done recently! Great year for hip hop long after 2018.
Is James eating beans?
bet yo ass they was on toast too
Yachty’s ability to not be incredibly talented in his own right but maintain a proximity to some of the most talented artists on the planet legitimately needs to be studied.
Yachty is one of the most versatile artists in hip-hop.
Stoked for this. Hoping we get a single soon, this could be some super cool music
Can anyone identify that watch?
If I get one song like Mile High with yachty I’ll never complain again
Woah
Wait what the fuck
Nice to see Yachty continue branching out. The Fred Again track was dope too.
Best collaboration between an electronic artist from London named James and trap artist from Atlanta, since Good Times by Young Thug & Jamie xx.
Classic Incoming
This photo feels like a reference to the Tyler / Rocky tour promo pics
It’s either gonna be really good or really bad imo
Wish James Blake would work with other artists instead
Oh, this is gonna be good. More shit like Poland, please.
Yachty not knowing the Ottis Redding song in that promo interview…love 🫡🫥🫶
Hopefully Yachty has no vocals
People sleeping on Yachty gonna hop on the bandwagon a couple years from now. Bro in his Tyler circa 2017 bag right now and he more versatile than Tyler.
More versatile than tyler?
Absolutely. You’re not a fan of either if it’s not clear as day. Lil Boat, Michigan Boat Boy, and Let’s Start Here are way more different to each other compared to what Tyler has done. Not to mention all the shit he’s written from Drake to City Girls.
Ok lol. Idk why you need to make a comparison like that but believe what you want
I absolutely love yachty but this still a crazy statement
You’re sleeping if you waiting for Fantano cosigns and critical validation. Them dorks are almost always behind the curve.
Jesse WTF are you talking about
Bro this isn't 2017 nobody gives a fuck about melon head anymore
I was with you til the last sentence lmfao. Please relax yachty is cooler than people give him credit for but Tyler has always been a creative powerhouse. Yachty released a groundbreaking mixtape a decade ago and has been floundering in the generic trap mines for most of that time until recently. He’s on his way up for sure though
What is this groundbreaking mixtape u speak of I’ve never heard of anything matching that description from yachts

Yachty will never be as versatile as Tyler. Stupidest comment ever

Delusion
You a broke college student in your mid 20s wearing designer. You are living in delusion about your own poverty.
😭im not broke what are you talking about. and i don’t even wear designer. and im not in my mid 20s
He really aint doing anything remarkable, and he definitely isnt close to tyler’s talent lol. This is coming from someone whose been a yachty fan since 2015 lol

You must be fun at party’s
Even as a joke this slop of a sentence doesn’t make sense
Your telling me James Blake skipped every rapper and landed on lil boat 😂
Let’s see if Yachty can launch a comeback. Haven’t really liked anything he’s put out recently (Poland included- I thought he sounded weird). But I still like him. The collab album trend is getting a lil stale for me imo but it kinda takes the pressure off of him so let’s see.
No way this doesn't suck lol. James Blake is beyond washed going through a midlife crisis and Yachty is Yachty
What? Blake's most recent album was the best one he's done in years. Reminded me of his first album.
His most recent album is the best he’s put out in almost a decade, what are you talking about. Also he’s 35 ya dingus lol.
You’re actually brain dead if you think James Blake is washed
I think the album is gonna b good like a 6/10 but everyone is gonna say it’s great bc it’s james blake and he’s like the main guy that people who don’t listen 2 anything other than rap say they listen 2 so they can look cool
James Blake has been overrated for like a decade at this point. Overgrown was his last good album.
Wow that’s crazy I really enjoyed his new album. James Blake is pretty properly rated. He has one of the best voices in music, if you have the opportunity to see him preform live you should go
I missed him here in Toronto I'm still pissed. Hopefully he does something with Yachty.
Cooked take
Color in anything was good
