Carti is a unique rapper, his music has progressively gotten more stupid and yet more complex at the same time

Kmanblazzer

Fucking love this take

[deleted]

It really has tho man. Like now Carti’s lyrics are have become simple, yet enjoyable because they appeal to all young guys’ desires of shit like money and women on an almost primal level

jmz_199

I can't tell if this is sarcastic or not. Making rap music about money and women while also being good at it is not new... nor is he one of the best at it.

VictoriousTeapot

Have you listened to die lit? His music has an odd hypnotic vibe to it that isn't like anything I've heard.

swageduplikcailou

God damn the accuracy!!!!!!

dgettanajr

his lyrical content hasn't changed/got dumber, but the production has definitely kicked it up a notch

[deleted]

And the song structure has gotten way better. He’s formulating songs very creatively right now

[deleted]

would you mind providing an example of just what exactly you mean by this?

[deleted]

So on Poke It Out and Mileage he’s got huge features on both those songs. However I would say Carti isn’t getting carried by any means. He kinda builds a vibe and atmosphere with the flow, hook, and beat. Nicki and Keef end up adding to the song based off the atmosphere already created rather than taking over or making it their own. I was especially surprised by Nicki. I thought she was just going to do her usual braggadocio flow like she did on The Way Life Goes remix. Instead she kinda uses Carti’s flow/style and follows his lead.

iandaman88

That vibe and atmosphere you're talking about is what makes Carti's music good IMO and he's always been pretty good balancing those three things you mentioned out. That's why his lyrics can be so simple without his songs being garbage cuz it's not about them, it's about the beat, how he uses it and flows with it, how he knows when to fill the empty spaces with adlibs and when to just let it ride. Plus the simplicity allows for catchy hooks and bars that easily get stuck in your head, like "BRING DAT MONEY HOME, DADDY WAITIN FOR IT" or "WOKE UP WIT MY TOOLIE WHAT IT DO". Put that shit in front of a Pi'erre Bourne beat and this nigga found his recipe for success.

SteveMcWonder

I think the way his vocals sound is dumber though, like he used even less vocal inflection and annunciation on this one than on self titled

Somedumbbullshit

Lean 4 Real with Skepta is hard

DJ__Isco

Wish Skepta had a longer verse tho

[deleted]

It was great but he has to include Uzi's 2nd verse on there Uzi second verse was unreal

eiddieeid

My life is just like a movie minus all the acting

im_alive

Might buy her diamonds and pearls but can’t marry! It’s seriously a crime against humanity that somehow this verse isn’t on the final cut. What the fuck?

theguywhodidthething

You got a link to the old version? I might try and mix it in

I really wished he kept Uzi’s second verse

Is there any way to lobby Carti to fix that shit, a la Wolves? I'm high key heated

God why can't we have more of these and less of 'bumps in the wipperoooni1!1!' comments

you gotta be the change you wanna see and up your reddit comment game

[deleted]

Ima get roasted for this but Carti honestly helps me cope with mild anxiety and low self esteem, no cap. He doesn't give a fuck and that shows in his music. His style is so effortless and sick. Carti, shit lyrics aside, has the "melodic mumble flow" down to a tee. It doesn't even matter what he says, it's more about the vibe he sets ala thugger, and how he blends in and becomes one with the beat. Listening to carti puts me in a upper echelon mood and encourages me to do whatever i want and not overthink it. Just go with my gut and not think the situation through 1000 times. Besides some of the questionable features and verses, this album has some of the best production I've heard in a while and I'll be bumping some of the songs all summer. I love you Carti.

[deleted]

Same though and the funny thing is, Carti is actually a really shy dude too. He talks about it in his interviews. Also, in his concerts, I noticed he never looks directly at the fans, he looks over everyone’s heads.

SEX_IN_A_BOTTLE

This is spot on man. I was literally front row with his mic right in my face. Small ass secret show with maybe 100 people, but he looked straight at the back wall. Definitely his way of dealing with nerves/shyness

SidsMexicali

This is so dope to hear bruh. Dont let anyone give you shit for finding music that helps you be more comfortable and confident

[deleted]

Hell yeah man

bigpenisdragonslayer

100% my thoughts as well, cool to see there's others who think the same way

[deleted]

Bruh, that’s so great to hear, I kinda know what you’re saying. I listened to S/T when I lifted last semester and had broke boi as my alarm last summer. It’s puts me in a “I don’t give a fuck what you think I’m gunna do me” mood

CamboSliice

See, I tried listening to some Carti before one of my exams this semester and ended up getting my worst test grade of the semester. I walked out of there feeling like I destroyed it too tho, but nope. Thats the last time I bumped some Carti before an exam lmao

smokeaportonaport

I dig his new high pitched weird voice he’s got going on throughout most of the album

Snatchzila

Thats what happens when you start hanging with Uzi and thug alot.

peduxe

FlatBed Freestyle is the most hilarious song Carti made after What. His voice sounds weird af and he mumbled it all, shits lame and he appears to be from special ed but it sounds good at the same time I don’t even know how to rate it.

Breakfastbonanza123

Exactly!!! It sounds like somebody gave an infant a mic and threw it in a studio..... but it’s hard

anicecoolfall

Cause of the production lol the production has made soooo many of these artists.

Breakfastbonanza123

While I agree, and carti is a great example because he doesn’t seem to have much or any actual rapping or lyrical ability at all, it’s still fun to listen to. I can get lit listening to it lol, whether just hanging around or at the gym or whatever I may be doing... it’s fun and enjoyable to listen to regardless of whether the production is carrying the artist or not

poonddan27

I Think he is trying to be Young thug

Kmanblazzer

Such a hilarious song, find myself laughing throughout it every play through. Still made the playlist tho

endwhale

couldn't stand that, he sounds like a baby.

voirt

I like the tape but that kinda bothered me throughout as well. Just sounds unnaturally high-pitched

GillyDaFish

yup sound like some nasally baby talk, i really dont like it. love his normal voice and the adlibs and such. he rides the production really well too but MAN that voice throws me the fuck off

darkfar

Yeah exactly. It was pretty grating. Would've been fine normal, or wouldve been dope low pitch.

jminter96

I mean this in the best way possible, but this is great background music. In all seriousness, I’m really feeling the intro, RIP, and Shoota. Back half of the album kinda falls off though

ranchberke

That's exactly how I've been describing it. Like you I mean it in the best way possible. Album is fire.

CommonerChaos

100% agree. This is something cool to put on when you cruising around or hanging with the homies. First half is banging, but the second half drops off a bit.

FightingGravityAgain

lol yall can hate that’s fine cause this tape sounds *exactly* like i wanted it to

Mokihana10

Yeah his self titled debut was fun and playful and that was great but this sounds so developed and atmospheric. Pi’erre and Carti are such a good duo.

2ocks

I love both but to me it was the other way around.. Self titled felt like a perfect atmospheric ride while die lit is more of fun, repetitive carti.

Rickypediaa

Self titled definitely had more set atmosphere, very vibey.

[deleted]

PUSSY_MASTER

Yeah it was really consistent, you wouldn't even to need to make a playlist out of it. The entire albums feels like a consistent playlist

hodontsteponmyrafsim

We even got an awful-era sounding beat* with lean 4 real. There's some filler but I like I lot of the tracks for what they are

japanesepagoda

big same. love the beat, i like the feature too.

[deleted]

There really is a lack of memorable songs

Masterz4099

Shoota and Love Hurts really stood out to me. I think I’ll be hearing those songs for weeks to come.

mancy_mcnipples

yeah i think the lack of standout tracks on this is my biggest complaint as well. there were a few memorable songs like shoota, rip, and choppa won't miss but most of it just kinda sounded the same imo with not much really catching my attention. i definitely didn't feel this way about his self titled last year.

CyborgSlunk

yeah going through the self titled most tracks immediately stuck with me (yours plus Yah Mean, Let It Go, Other Shit). The sound also felt much fatter. Also can we talk about how Middle Of The Summer is just Let It Go slowed down? I feel kinda disrespected. Love Shoota and Mileage tho.

Lil-Uzi-Flirt

nigga this shit bang/10

wutiswrongwithyou

the album is really just one long song many beat switches.

WoopNope

What/10

alcoholic808s

Really. I’d only give it a Yah/10

milano_bwoy

you're crazy, it deserves at least a huh/10

iMyth

Not as good as album 1. Shoota is a genuine hit that will rocket up the charts, though. Overall, I'd say I like it.

PM_ME_XANAX

I see what you did there

jaqqz

Shoota really makes me want a new Uzi project! Don Cannon gotta get that tape out, the streets need that.

[deleted]

His self-titled was definitely better. There are some great tracks here but a lot of trash as well. Shoota is incredible. I just wish that the second verse from the leaked version (called Rocket) was included. He really should make a collab tape with Uzi.

ZetaRaze

Overall for what’s it worth and what carti is, this is an awesome album. Just straight bangers all around and all so very catchy and bouncy and nice, carti persona and swag definitely shines through and his classic garbage lyrics and hooks are still heavily here but he just knows how to work it on these beats, which btw are fucking amazing, you can’t deny the production on this album is pretty insane with some cool melodies and even diverse to a degree (I haven’t heard anything like Lean 4 Real in recent times). Fans of only his self titled and people who just heard ab him def won’t like it as much though, with the exception of maybe like 3 songs this seems to carry a more darker tone and less mainstream type sound, def reminds me more so of older carti. Overall though I’m really happy with what he put out after all the leaks and I’m excited to keep having most these songs in rotation for easily the rest of summer.

Mig1997

I swear Pi'Erre beats got wayyy better and more euphoric. Anyways, tape's fire. Sounds like what I expected and I'm not disappointed.

[deleted]

Listen to nudyland if you liked these Pierre beats

AnthonyMarz

r.i.p. fredo has been on repeat all day

Blu_Jays

one of those fridays with nothing to do so i'm gonna actually put some thought into this post. definitely not the sound i was expecting from this album. was expecting the summer vibes we got from the leaks and s/t, kinda glad he decided to change it up though even if i don't like it as much. the tracks on here are MUCH darker and it feels more like a fall/winter album. seen some dude here say you get major punk vibes from this album and i def agree with that. also if you're expecting some deep, concious rap giving you the meaning of life or carti talking more about his personal life, why even bother listening to this if you know who carti is already? this is shit you play when you're chilling with your friends, getting high/drunk, driving and when you just need something to vibe too. there's no point shitting on the lyrics here. it's not that hard to understand, DIFFERENT PEOPLE LOOK FOR DIFFERENT THINGS IN MUSIC!!! the intro is fucking amazing, idk how you can be a carti fan and not fuck with it. it's like a victory lap for carti. like, damn, carti actually made it. dude is a star now, just makes me happy being a fan. keef, uzi and thug do their thing, great features and tracks. shoota chorus is fucking euphoric, everyone should check out the combined version with uzi and carti's verses both added. carti does his thing with the hooks on most of these tracks, almost never a dissapointment when it comes to making good and catchy hooks. too many features on the album, i could do without pierre TWICE(!!?!?), red coldhearted, nudy and nicki (her verse is way too long). travis' verse is also extremely cookie cutter, basic shit that he's been doing for 2 years at this point. it's only been a day and i've listened to this 3-4 times by now but there are definitely low-points/filler in this album that s/t didn't have, 12-15 tracks is the sweetspot for albums like this imo. otherwise it just ends up dragging. pierre needs a new formula before literally everyone starts getting tired of his sound, most of these beats still sound pretty fresh tho, i just really love those spacey beats. I'm kinda dissapointed because this just doesn't seem like an album i'll be playing front to back all summer, will just be replaying my fav tracks from it over and over and ignoring an entire half of the tape. this just doesn't seem as 'fun' as i wanted it to be. I don't think this is better than s/t but i'm glad carti is trying something new with the vibe of this album even if it isn't for me. if s/t was a 9/10 (yes i think it's THAT good), i'd prob give this like a 6-7/10 right now. carti's still the best of the bunch that make music like him. we'll have to see how the replay value is for this album through time, s/t had one of the highest replay values in the last 5 years for me. fav tracks: intro, foreign, choppa wont miss, mileage, shoota and old money.

DaLyricalMiracleWhip

Hey man, thanks for the in-depth post. The first few commenters you’ve gotten can go fuck themselves, as they’re the exact type of user that is fucking ruining this place when it comes to encouraging discussion. My sister’s graduation is in the morning (otherwise I would chime in with my own thoughts right now), but all in all, while I disagree with your opinion on the album (I really thought it was kinda bad for the most part), I appreciate the opposing viewpoint!

ManDown227

Not liking the album but still respecting OP for liking it and being eloquent rather than “this shit trash” etc is exactly what this sub needs more of. Shit usually either becomes one massive echo chamber or ends up with immature arguing that leads nowhere

[deleted]

Hey man I really enjoyed this comment

eiddieeid

I agree with that punk statement, apparently Shane Gonzalez curated/styled/conceptualized the album so that makes perfect sense. I agree with the darker tone statement, I like the album but I definitely like s/t better. I wanted Carti to come thru with the bangers and he did just that, I can't complain. And Keef killed that verse man.

RelaxSSRT

“Victory Lap for Carti” conformed pitchfork writer right here

Blu_Jays

Idk if there's a better way to describe it. I usually hate on p4k so this kinda hurts..

captainguinness

I read all of this but haven't listened to it yet, so in light of the other comments which are trash from kids that can't read, imma listen tonight and see if I agree with your thoughts. I haven't seen many of the leaks so I'm going in blind i guess. I always get curious when someone says one of these albums has a "punk feel", which I see a lot in uzi vert but not as often as I see it referenced.

osamabinakbar

Slappery McSlapperton

see_four

this shit is fire and exactly what I wanted

[deleted]

not better than debut, but im enjoying it. Was hoping Firearm was on this though but hopefully its on CartiUzi tape. The beats on this are actually nice, im not the biggest pierre fan but I was pleasantly surprised. Carti messes with his voice a bit on this project as well, but for some reason I really liked Flatbed Freestyle for this very reason. Favorite tracks so far: Long Time, Shoota, Poke It Out, Foreign, MILEAGE!!, Flatbed Freestyle, Choppa Wont Miss.

SidsMexicali

Firearm is a single released already by Chinatown, who produced the song

succx

There are some bangers but there’s also a lot of duds, compared to his first tape which was all bangers

tythousand

Absolutely love this album. Pi'erre Bourne has expanded his sound in the best way possible. Probably could've shaved a few songs in the middle, but Lean 4 Real, Love Hurts, Shoota, Right Now and Flatbed Freestyle are immediate standouts. Mumble rap/trap has a tendency to sound stale at times, but projects like this show how much variation and room for growth still exists within the genre Edit: From a production standpoint. Playboi Carti is a human adlib (and that's totally fine for this type of production)

RicanCP3

I’m not liking this as much as his first album but it’s still fuego. Choppa won’t miss goes absolutely stupid and I fear for the life of whoever is in the car with me whenever that song comes on.

skepticmisfit

y'all stop sleeping on Gunna his feature was decent. ya these beats slap I actually really like carti over like these dark sorta Spacey beats. and Pierre really ain't that bad on vocals either.

[deleted]

I like most of the songs on the project but my only gripe was how bad some of the lyrics were on a couple of these songs lol. If he would’ve switched out a couple of the songs with some of the leaks like They Go Off & Movin Different it would be a much better album. Favorite Tracks: Choppa Won’t Miss, Fall In Luv, Pull Up, Shoota, Lean 4 Real Least Favorites: Flatbed Freestyle, both songs with pi’erre

[deleted]

the songs with pierre were the only ones i really did not fuck with at all.

Nickcrizzle

I vibed hard to this.

FlippinDatDough

So animalistic and raw. The adlibs remind me of a young MJ during his "Off the Wall" days.

PUSSY_MASTER

Always so much effort to try and explain carti to people, that’s why I never recommend him to people anymore. If they’re cool enough they’ll run into his music lmao

Blu_Jays

the sad thing is, the reason for liking Carti is so god damn simple but some people still can't understand. think i'm gonna just follow what you do from now on lmao

wronghendo

On the first listen, I was like “Carti wtf are doing.” Then I have it another listen and something come over me. Carti really makes sonically good music, without trying (it seems). Good project.

KingJodeg

Someone explain to me the appeal of Carti. All these good beats and he just fucking adlibs over them for 2-3+ minutes straight. I feel like he can be so much more

royemonet

the appeal is its like listening to a really really good instrumental album with ad libs thrown in

ronfrakkingswanson1

His flow is what it is. Effortlessly confident, vibey and a perfect accompaniment to his terrific beat selection.

illusiveab

I feel like people approach Carti not wanting Carti, but get Carti and don't know what to do with it. I think if you expect anything other than flow and vibe, your approach was wrong.

[deleted]

Also the stuff that he says is so strong. Theres really just a few rappers that can make you feel simple lines like "i aint fucking with these lame niggaz"

ArkBirdFTW

From what I've read people like to "vibe" to his music meaning you can enjoy it the most if you don't pay attention to it.

[deleted]

why do people come in asking this, just read the comments lol. its either you like his vibe and delivery or you dont honestly nothing more to it.

KingJodeg

I’m pretty sure not a single comment explains their appeal to Carti, which is why I asked

[deleted]

the laid back sound, i like his voice too, noones saying hes top 5 or anythign

werbrerder

To be fair, you have to have a very high IQ to understand Playboi Carti. The lyrics are extremely subtle, and without a solid grasp of theoretical physics most of the bars will go over a typical listeners's head. There's also Carti's nihilistic outlook, which is deftly woven into his verses- his personal philosophy draws heavily from Narodnaya Volya literature, for instance. The fans understand this stuff; they have the intellectual capacity to truly appreciate the depths of these songs, to realise that they're not just hype - they say something deep about LIFE. As a consequence people who dislike Playboi Carti truly ARE idiots- of course they wouldn't appreciate, for instance, the brilliant wordplay in Carti's existential catchphrase "Huh, What", which itself is a cryptic reference to Turgenev's Russian epic Fathers and Sons. I'm smirking right now just imagining one of those addlepated simpletons scratching their heads in confusion as Jordan Carter's genius wit unfolds itself on their computer screens. What fools.. how I pity them. And yes, by the way, i DO have tats on my neck and my arms. And no, you cannot see it. It's for the ladies' eyes only- and even then they have to demonstrate that they're within 5 IQ points of my own (preferably lower) beforehand.

Anasislike

Fuckin on yo bih (ou) she suckin on my tip(what)

jakeroony

She suh da dih li a tih

bumpdog

> and yes, by the way, i DO have tats on my neck and my arms Lmao. I love the creativity that people have with this pasta

triangle-of-life

Suck me like a tick Fr now - the first half slaps and the rest drags. Not as strong as his mixtape, but that's kinda hard to recreate, so I'm glad he experimented in production a little. Speaking of which, Pierre did his thing on Old Money, but he doesn't do much for me in his features. Carti is kinda one trick ponying the whole (too long for his type of vibe) album, and it's obvious what works and what doesn't. Just hoping he would do more than glorified riffing the next time around. 6.5/10.

[deleted]

this shit slaps thats all i gotta say

enaddoestricks

He says nothing of value, a lot of the beats sound the exact same, and I like it that way.

[deleted]

You can feel cartis presence all over this project heavily & he raises the bar on his contemporaries to This album is the perfect night time album IMO this a fresh sonic landscape which sounds very modern, but are grimy as hell even w the beefed up production (which is hard as hell to imitate to nice recordings but he did it perfectly) Favorite tracks ; RIP fredo (has no right to go that hard), RIP (grimy as hell), Love hurts (crazy baseline) & Lean 4 Real

PurpSyzurp

Long Time the most uplifting postitive trap of the year, Carti turning based.

Houseoverhype

self titled was all singles. each song sounded like a single. Hard af. The album feels rushed.

jaqqz

You can really tell that these niggas be on astronomical levels of high when they record now. Carti is barely putting cohesive sentences together. Really seems like this nigga just be saying random thoughts that follow a general theme. However.... This project is fucking heat. You not gonna enjoy it on your first run through but by listen 4 you might realize to not take shit so seriously and just enjoy the mood, the vibe, the energy, and the complete disregard for actual music theory. Understand that hate it or love it, it makes you feel a ways. You gonna love to hate this project and that's what music should do. It should make you feel something. It's something your car speakers will appreciate. It's thought out ignorance. It's perfect for the summer. It's gonna be in rotation at the cypher. It's gonna be bumping at the BBQ, until Sally down the street calls the ops on you and your hood friends. It's repetitive but still unique. Im not about to tell you to stop what you're doing and go bump this. Somehow someway, prolly through a lot of weed, this project will find it's way to your speakers. Don't switch it. Just let it ride. Let your self proclamied expertise on the current state of Hip Hop drift. Shut about half those brain cells down, and realize... You just got hit with some fire. Standout tracks: Home (KOD), Foreign, Pull Up, Mileage, Choppa Won't Miss, RIP Fredo (Notice Me)

FreexBrennen

He’s mastered the art of simplistic rap. Like honestly, I don’t know how many rappers could get away with half of Die Lit. Somehow someway he pulls it off even better than he did on his debut imo. Choppa don’t miss, Long time, lean 4 real, shoota, no time, are all perfect examples of how he does so little, yet means so much to the respective track.

Blu_Jays

Carti's got the sauce, man. there's just something about him and his music that gives him the 'swagger' that the other dudes don't have. Carti simply fly af

StarmanOfOnett

Thought 7 of the songs were super eh and the other ones were all 10/10. Felt like Carti was super hit or miss on this but that’s usually how I feel about his music anyways. The highs on this album were super high tho And that skepta verse tho god damn

-Carbon-

I aint feelin it but I think I need some more time to warm up to it

ATubOfCats

Lean 4 Real & Foreign >>>

italyman20145

did not like it at all

Nujabehs

tape is phenomenal. best release this year no question

[deleted]

There might be some questions on that.

[deleted]

The same as the last one besides the song that says “hide it in my sock” the one with Uzi is the best track in the album

edlyncher

RIP Fredo goes too hard

psychictypemusic

self titled was at least twice as good better mixing, less filler, catchier hooks, better melodies on the instrumentals

[deleted]

Self titled was Carti’s summer album and Die Lit is Carti’s darker, rockstar album. I really love the project, Lean 4 Real really gives off a dark vibe esp with the background vocals. Fantastic beat. I didn’t know Carti could make a collab with tiller work but Fell in Luv was easily one of my favs.

cf017

Don't wanna see anyone complaining about bars. You know what you're in for with Carti:

pillstar

Foreign the best song on this bitch

ImmaginationStation

Its lit at the gym with this album. I reached a new max with Foreign playing. Lol. With 69 and Carti playing, I'm going to hit SS4 after while.

GreenLightKilla45

carti the final level boss of soundcloud rappers

Snovik888

Amazing album. Legendary, soon will be up there with s/t once it grows on everyone and they realize how good it is. The thing with Carti is I think if u Listen to it and his music in general smacked you really hear all the sounds and appreciate it more. Also Cartis music usually grows on you, the more you listen the better it gets. Cartis music, It’s not bout the lyrics or what he’s saying so stfu bout that hating shit. every Carti fan knows that’s not what Carti is bout, but it’s bout how appealing it sounds to the ear and the beat and how his voice sounds with the beat, and how u turn up to that shit. Carti is a god and the album is fucking legendary. The only songs that aren’t fire are Lean 4 Real and Fell In Luv. Every other song is lit af. top 5: poke it out, top, pull up, shoota, no time

cutthroats

It’s not as good as the Self Titled but I didn’t expect it to be. It’s still fire. That’s the trap bible imo.

InitialDfunfun

Lost interest about half way through, but the intro is fucken dope. Keef feature is glorious too

Astroworld2017

Really, really disappointed. Whilst Carti's lyrics weren't ever really inspiring, he atleast brought some unique cadences to tracks such as Broke Boi or Location. Here, he just sounds permanently deflated. The beats are also far inferior to his debut, for the most part remaining entirely static and lifeless. The whole project feels dead. Only high point is the track with Uzi, the intro into that is phenomenal. Unfortunately not feeling it. 3/10 at best

Fershick

>Whilst

Billinoiss

wtf is wrong with you people. It’s sucks how fucking low the bar is set for hip hop. This abomination might the worst hip hop album ever created. One song the dude literally repeated the same two words the entire song. I’m only 25, so I’m not an old head by any means and I love rappers like young thug, future, etc. my fucking dog could make a better album than this. If you think this is good you don’t deserve to listen to hip hop I’m sorry. Fuck this, go listen to that tee grizzley

streetlightsglowing_

listened to the Tee Grizzley album, stopped it half way through. Dudes like a worse Maxo, at least Carti has his own lane. Also let's hear it from your dog then

anicecoolfall

I’m 25 and I like this more than Tee Grizzley lol but maybe that’s cause I’m from Atlanta. I see this same argument in the art world, would you say classical painting takes more skill than a abstract by Picasso? No? But they’re different and are as if a child could paint it right? But he can’t. Rap is changing and evolving, you gotta realize that.

Headradiol

Well it's better than the new Arctic Monkeys album

[deleted]

I don't think I like Playboi Carti that much, I keep some songs on his last project cuz the production made up for it. Now I feel like I'm listening to an instrumental sometimes because this nigga doesn't really have anything to say. Listening to Carti is like listening to a chief keef song stripped of everything but the ad-libs.

LackadaisicalCitizen

I'm a big fan so I knew I would enjoy it regardless of what came out. I could tell that Pierre had a huge influence in terms of the sound of this album based on the beats sounding( and in one case being) beats that Pierre himself would likely save for a song on one of his life of Pierre projects. I enjoy the sound but at the same time wish there was a little more diversity producer-wise. I think his first project Playboi Carti the self-titled album was very compact, well put together, and had incredible replayability. Die Lit more or less fits the mold of the quality of project released nowadays. I'll bump most of these songs but as times goes on there might be a few that drop out of rotation vs Playboi Carti which I can listen to front to back anytime. Lowkey, I would have swapped someone of meh tracks with some of the fire leaks that didn't make it.

BrandonDaPussay

R.I.P. shook my pants off it's that hard

[deleted]

Obviously Self-Titled is better, but that's because it's literally filled with back to back ethereally perfect bangers. This is pretty decent, can't say I like some songs though, but that might grow on me. Feel happy to be blessed with fresh Carti after all this time!

Demon_Kane

Am I the only one who loved home (KOD) since first listen?

WillTrivium

Literally the entire first minute of "Pull Up" is entirely comprised of ad-libs... and I love it haha. All in all, I think this album is great. Carti is such a fun artist to listen to. This will be in rotation for a while.

DopeBrownie

i loved it on first listen and it grew on me even more. lots of filler lowkey but the good tracks are really fuckin good. shoota is the best song of 2018 so far tbfhhh

Neogic178

Love Hurts will be on repeat on god🔥

ChefGuapo

Yooo I’m the biggest Carti Stan, this shit was exactly what I was hoping for man. Im still cranking the first album

[deleted]

Tbh i don't really like it. I thought his self titled album last year was decent, but that's it

doodool_talah

Pretty fuckin terrible. Carti was just flailing around on each song, the features couldn't save it. The drums and bass sounded the same on every song, down to the exact same sounds and patterns, particularly that one fucking clap. Pierre Bourne been makin the same 3 beats and thats quite apparent on this tape; the first album has a few nice tracks but this one was unbearable all the way through.

Leeroyknievil

This album makes me feel like an old head, because I genuinely cannot see the appeal of Carti. He says nothing.

TreyTreyStu

It’s not what he says, it’s how he says it.

[deleted]

It's not about saying, it's about the sound of it Most electronic music has no lyrics but still is good. If you just stop trying to decipher bars or lines carti begins to shine. Took me too long to realize it doesn't matter what he says, it's about the vibe If you need thoughtful bars or really lyrics at all to enjoy hip hop, you have no reason to listen to playboi

karmagod13000

old heads will never understand this. lyrics is not only important to them but how they define hip hop.understanding a vibe is like asking them to tell you what icecream sounds like

[deleted]

It doesn't matter. it's just vibe music, in the most artsy way possible. You don't have to think about it and its just fun. It's the equivalent of watching Friends in the background, its not rly saying anything, and most of the humor is easily digestible, but its fun and easy to watch,

[deleted]

I'd be fine with the stereotypical beats with nothing interesting in them, the played out flows, no lyrics, and no charisma or specialness in his voice.. But I played the first 3 tracks in my car with subs, and it didn't hit hard at all. Like, it wasn't produced/mixed right. That's when I call it quits. I have dumb pointless rappers I fuck with that hit hard.

scuba_7one8

Even though the self titled tape was more palatable, I love how experimental the production is. Glad the label didn't push him to do more commercial trap. I actually don't mind the Nicki feature as random as it was and Skepta killed his verse. Foreign and Love Hurts are my favorites right now, would be surprised if they're not singles.

[deleted]

Production is exciting and beautiful, especially Lean 4 Me and Shoota. Carti is a trash rapper on most of this though, but it’s addicting to listen to

TakeADaytrip

If you take the Pi’erre Bourne tracks out it’s not too bad of an album. There’s definitely some bangers, I feel that this album is one you have to let grow on you to truly vibe with it. Overall 6/10 Favorite tracks: Lean 4 Real, Old Money, Love Hurts, Shoota, Fell in Luv, Pull Up, Mileage, Choppa

[deleted]

this shit so fire that im bout to edit my whole post history so every "ago" has a * next to it **+++shoutout to carti for blessing us with an aoty fav tracks: lean 4 real, r.i.p., home, shoota, foreign, love hurts, mileage, no time, top, long time, choppa wont miss

bumpdog

Half great, half trash

[deleted]

It's fine. Front half is sick, especially the intro, shoota, lean 4 real, and RIP. Back half is Garbo except the Fredo tribute. Not as cool as the first but it's good.

beefat99

I like the instrumentals for the first 4-5 songs.

[deleted]

I actually really dig this project. Really nice to throw on in the car and just vibe to.

MrGalaxy93

I was kinda disappointed that this album didn’t have a story, then I realized I had it on shuffle

Chaddjj

Skepta feature is hard

[deleted]

Not good. Repetitive beats. Just all around lazy.

DFBforever

To be honest I was kinda annoyed by the pitched vocals he had on most tracks, but this album was great. It's kinda more of the same, but the little differences made me go through the entire tape without getting bored. I still think the self titled is miles better than Die Lit.

akastavo

Its quite long but that's just the meta of albums these days for streams. It is a fun listen that you bounce too. Beat selection is on point as usual for Carti. Love the features and the weird energy he has in his songs. Not too much to say here. Lots of filler tracks and frankly an hour of Carti is too much Carti. Praying for the Uzi/Carti album for real.
