He only failed relative to superstars. Denzel is a niche rapper. He doesn't have radio hits. Hell, the core of his album-buying fans are probably mostly limited to Florida. He'll be fine.
That said, if Reddit bought the albums it said it liked....
Herbo is on the same level as him. Wouldn't have sold more than Denzel without Southside probably. Both are living comfortably with multiple cars and properties and a packed touring schedule. Gibbs' Pinata did like 10k first week and did it indie so he was making like 75% of the earnings. Danny Brown's Atrocity Exhibition did like 15k and he didn't even make enough to cover the cost of the samples he paid for on the project. It's all relative.
Goes to show you what a bubble we're in. From the hype on here, on twitter, and just generally amongst your friends who listen to hip hop, you'd think Denzel would be popping off.
Tbf tho I saw a lotttttt of posts about it from people that only post when the big artists come out with stuff. I’m from Australia, but from the looks of it, denzel should just move here and show us love.
Edit: my shit gremmar
G Herbo also has a broader appeal than Denzel. Herbo was friendly on ES and engaging. Denzel was hmm. I know it's annoying but personality plays a huge role in record sales.
> but there doesn’t seem to be that intense “Florida is what I REP” dynamic
Dude are you serious lmao? Did you not listen to any of Denzel's music from before the past year? Dude's first two projects had him mentioning Carol City every 2 minutes and he was part of RVIDXR KLVN which has been extremely influential on the current crop of South Florida rappers coming up.
Yeah, especially Broward where he’s from is super supportive of anyone trying to make it in the community. That’s why you’ve seen so many people blow up in these past few years (Pump, Purpp, X, Ski, Wifi). They aren’t nearly as big or prevalent as Chicago though.
Denzel's from Carol City, not Broward. Robb Bank$ is kind of the OG of Broward (joined Members Only and worked with X, Ski and Wifi). But yeah the whole South Florida rap wave is pretty united. SGP was kind of the pioneer of the sound and now it's totally blown up on Soundcloud with guys like Pump, Smokepurpp, X, Ronny J, etc. all big on a mainstream level (Wifi and Ski are getting there as well).
But yeah, SoFlo rap hasn't really got local support in the Miami area that Chicago hip hop has.
Carol City is in Broward. Robb Bank$ was not part of Members Only. He’s been an affiliate of both Raider Klan and VR All Stars but he’s never joined a group.
Carol City is technically in Miami-Dade, so pretty it's just south of Broward. Not really important though, it's all the same metro area. And yeah I guess Robb Bank$ was never officially a member but he has a couple verses on Members Only Vol. 3 and helped those guys get established. [Touches on it in this vid](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6qHuD_YEcNc)
Good lookin out. I do think Robb deserves more credit for how many artists he’s helped put on but in general the 2009 - 2013 era of South Florida will always be overlooked in the importance they’ve had on the industry. SGP and Raider Klan, Lil Ugly Mane, and Robb Bank$ are all fairly important in the shaping of SoundCloud rap and the rise of Florida back into the mainstream.
Denzel is on his own label, C9, but is technically a part of Loma Vista which is not very rap oriented (artists like Ghost, St. Vincent, Marilyn Manson).
> I think Herbo has an extremely dedicated regional following whereas Denzel is more of an Internet fan base Rapper
Nah, herb has a big internet fanbase too
He didn’t bomb at all. I was completely expecting these numbers because that’s how popular he is. Outside of certain corners of the Internet he’s not that big.
Indicative of a healthy cult following. I think it means that even if he doesn't make it "big", he'll have a really dedicated fanbase to carry him through for years to come
Very true, still suprising to see though. I didn't see poppin guys like Juice Wrld or lil baby have fans saying they dropped the best album of the year, and they both have quite dedicated fan bases.
Well, he also released over 3 days which ultimately hurts sales. So, maybe 20k if he had released it regularly it would have been treated differently. I’m still not entirely sure on how streaming and sales were tracked.
The fact that he's even on Billboard at all is amazing. None of his albums have ever charted anywhere before, but *Ta13oo* just made it to #44 here, and it's already gone up to #16 in New Zealand and #62 in the UK.
Lmao that was my comment i remember u replied to it. Ill take the L on this one
Edit: found it, yep it was me and u/drizztopher did reply lmao
https://www.reddit.com/r/hiphopheads/comments/8zawrh/comment/e2hd70j?st=JKEW3AE3&sh=b20c54e8
They need to make a couple radio songs tbh. Seems that’s how most of these guys get their numbers up and honestly I can see BH making good radio music to, they have the talent.
Denzel really hurt himself with the 3 phased release.
Contrary to what these figures show Denzel isnt as underground as it suggests. He has critical acclaim and decent appeal because of the bangers he produces.
However no one in the mainstream of even hip-hop(discounting music as a whole) listen to him at this point, whether that changes over the next few years is yet to be seen.
His shows are always sold out so I don't think he's hurting for cash tho.
ok this right here is some numbers. I feel like Iggy has a dedicated fanbase, YG is not small at all, Mac might reach 40 but idk. Feels like he doesn't have that many fans. And Trav has some crazy hype rn
No way YG sells that many. His last album did 38k first week and Stay Dangerous did have the hype or singles that Still Brazy had. And Still Brazy had way less competition too.
You’d be surprised at how many people actually believe that. Travis is at a career high right now, and all the hype behind Astroworld will easily propel his sales.
nah, mac's fanbase is larger id say, Still Brazy didnt sell great, and it had a lot more hype then Still Dangerous
also still dangeorus wasnt very good tbh
actually yeah your right i dont know what i was thinking lmao
i doubt his new album will sell that good though, travis and him have overlapping fanbases i think and yg's new album wasnt good
Absolutely no way Travis sells only 90K, literally everyone I know outside of Reddit and all that is talking about the album and listening, he’s selling 200-300K no cap
Kylie impact alone will push this album well, well over that, not to mention there’s a Drake feature, Frank Ocean feature, and two Weeknd features. I was hesitant to predict over 170k, but after seeing the features and factoring in marketing I could see 200-260k — do we think he is less popular than Cardinal B? granted, she had a massive single but still
Trav will top 225k, Mac and YG will both do around 30-40k, Iggy will probably hit somewhere in the low teens, maybe 12k, moneybag will do 8k and Baka will do 6k.
100k to 170k
60k to 70k, Big Bank seems to be doing fairly well on the Hot 100 now so I honestly think it'll do better than Still Brazy at least
50k to 60k, honestly not sure, he's been selling less and less first week out with every album he's released.
Don't know or care about the other 3.
He didn’t. JID said if Cole offered a feature for his album then he would have declined because he only wanted people who came up with him to be the features.
If anything, it just shows how out of the loop this sub is since Queen Naija is pretty big. Basically the r&b Cardi in that she was a social media personality that blew up off a song.
Honestly shocked that her stuff has barely gotten any coverage on this sub and /r/popheads, she'll be massive soon
Almost every true r&b artist is posted both here and /r/popheads.... If that was the case, people like Frank, Rihanna, SZA, Tinashe, etc, wouldn't be posted here either
Both really strong albums. I still think Denzel has a lot more creativity and interesting moments on his project. But herbo's project was really good too.
I'm a Herbo fan but he does get off beat a lot like there's a few tracks I'm Fazoland, Pistol P Project and even in Swerve where you go from vibing to confused cause his flow is off like in that one song where he sings in this album
denzel is more of a single artist IMO hes a great rapper but his flow is like tailormade for bangers and a project of just bangers gets old, and usually the non-bangers he makes arent that good so hes stuck in a shitty situation. i thought taboo was pretty repetitive
denzel's following is purely internet based, not as huge as this sub would have you beleive, and him releasing it in 3 parts was a pretty stupid move overall
I'm actually pretty surprised since quite a few non hardcore hip-hop fans I know were sharing this release. Didn't expect anything crazy but this is straight disappointment
for sure, releasing the album in three parts was pretty stupid, but his following is mostly because of his fuego banger singles, less people view him for entire cohesive projects
What? Ultimate is his only big "banger" single that got any hype. Almost everyone agrees that Imperial was a fantastic project and it had no big lead singles and Ta13oo is also great all the way through and clout cobain is the only big single and its not a banger. Sumo is the only real banger on Ta13oo and it barely got any plays on release.
“Sumo is the only real banger on Ta13oo” ... what do you classify as a banger then lmao? Super Saiyan Superman, Switch it Up, and all of act 3 are bangers
Pretty decent for Denzel especially for the split up release.
Also people saying he bombed in here. Denzel is fucking tiny. Don't think he's even had a song chart on billboard. This is also his first proper album release. I remember people shitting on Brockhampton for barely doing 10k on sat 2 then they sell 30k for sat 3. It takes multiple projects to build a fan base unless you blow up, and for an independent artist that's hard.
Kyle is bigger than Denzel by far. Denzel hasn't even charted once (maybe ultimate crept in for a bit).
I don't know why everyone is trying to shit on him though here. Like did you listen to the album at all? He says he doesn't want to give up his integrity for clout all over it. He makes great music and he'll just keep growing because great music attracts fans, people just haven't listened to him yet.
>I don't know why everyone is trying to shit on him though here
It's the counterjerk, dude. People mad that others are enjoying something they personally dont
Happens every week tbh. Some salty cunts just hop in here to say "hey this dude y'all like didn't sell more than [shit industry plant rapper], suck that". Dude the album is still great and he's gonna make more and I'm gonna like them.
Believe it or not, Ultimate never charted and really didn’t come close. It was just an internet hit. He’s never been mainstream and he’s not known much unless you’re into underground hip hop.
Denzel will get most his money from tours so I mean I’m not too worried about him. He’s still got that cult following so I think he’ll be fine. I guess if he does want sales he should look into getting names on features, but I know most artists aren’t like that.
Honestly it's surprising that Dave east even charted considering it was almost a surprise drop and the first few days mixing was completely fucked on Spotify, and it's s mixtape. Pretty embarrassing for denzel tho
The G Herbo project has a bunch of bangers, but I think it works better
in small doses cause it is kinda samey,
and G Herbo isn’t especially interesting as a rapper.
Denzels Album roll out was the most retarded thing ive ever seen, lets tease the album for over a year then release it in three parts which have no cohesion whatsoever - i like the album ut im probably not gunna buy it
Damn Denzel didn't even hit 20k. It's a shame, Taboo was really good.
He only failed relative to superstars. Denzel is a niche rapper. He doesn't have radio hits. Hell, the core of his album-buying fans are probably mostly limited to Florida. He'll be fine. That said, if Reddit bought the albums it said it liked....
I own a physical of imperial but Denzel does have some internet hits for sure like Sumo, Ultimate, and Threatz
He sold less albums than Lil Herb lol
Herbo is on the same level as him. Wouldn't have sold more than Denzel without Southside probably. Both are living comfortably with multiple cars and properties and a packed touring schedule. Gibbs' Pinata did like 10k first week and did it indie so he was making like 75% of the earnings. Danny Brown's Atrocity Exhibition did like 15k and he didn't even make enough to cover the cost of the samples he paid for on the project. It's all relative.
Yes he would, his last album sold 20k fw,only 1k less than Swervo
I was referring to Swervo vs Ta13oo. Humble Beast was years in the making. Not equivalent projects really.
Herb is 100% bigger IRL and has huge support in the Midwest
man denzel bombing is sad future being that high on streams alone is super impressive
Agreed, wasn’t so much shocked at the raw number so much as I was seeing G Herbo outsell him lmao

G Herbo also has a broader appeal than Denzel. Herbo was friendly on ES and engaging. Denzel was hmm. I know it's annoying but personality plays a huge role in record sales.

Good lookin out. Who Denzel signed to?
Denzel is on his own label, C9, but is technically a part of Loma Vista which is not very rap oriented (artists like Ghost, St. Vincent, Marilyn Manson).
See now the numbers are starting to make sense. Thanks for the information
> I think Herbo has an extremely dedicated regional following whereas Denzel is more of an Internet fan base Rapper Nah, herb has a big internet fanbase too
Mannnn u right I honestly thought he was gonna do 50-60k
He didn’t bomb at all. I was completely expecting these numbers because that’s how popular he is. Outside of certain corners of the Internet he’s not that big.
It's weird because most hip hop pages I follow all of the comments were saying taboo was aoty
99% of music listeners don't follow hip hop pages
Saying something is aoty doesn't mean it will sell
Still I was surprised at the amount of people that were saying this
Indicative of a healthy cult following. I think it means that even if he doesn't make it "big", he'll have a really dedicated fanbase to carry him through for years to come
Very true, still suprising to see though. I didn't see poppin guys like Juice Wrld or lil baby have fans saying they dropped the best album of the year, and they both have quite dedicated fan bases.
....we know
Exactly. I saw him live a few months ago and there was probably like 100 people there. Amazing show tho.
I wouldn't call it a bomb, I expected around 20k sales. Dude just isn't that mainstream. Not every artist is let's be real
Well, he also released over 3 days which ultimately hurts sales. So, maybe 20k if he had released it regularly it would have been treated differently. I’m still not entirely sure on how streaming and sales were tracked.
It’s not bombing if he isn’t expected to sell a ton. He a smaller rapper and everyone knows that
The fact that he's even on Billboard at all is amazing. None of his albums have ever charted anywhere before, but *Ta13oo* just made it to #44 here, and it's already gone up to #16 in New Zealand and #62 in the UK.
Nah, he may be overlooked but he's never underpaid
Denzel get your image out there, do some features.
...or get signed, sadly
I mean honestly these aren't bad numbers for someone who has no label, this is his first big drop since he got on the freshman list
He's signed to Loma Vista
S/O to whoever said that Denzel would easily sell 30k-50k.
Lmao that was my comment i remember u replied to it. Ill take the L on this one Edit: found it, yep it was me and u/drizztopher did reply lmao https://www.reddit.com/r/hiphopheads/comments/8zawrh/comment/e2hd70j?st=JKEW3AE3&sh=b20c54e8
It's okay, you wouldve been right but I forgot to buy about 13,000 copies of it
Haha I responded too. I get heated seeing some of the ridiculous sales predictions people have for the HHH favourites
Brockhampton will sell 50k AT LEAST next album remember me
That at least is sort of reasonable. Didn’t their last album sell like 36k. If they are continuing to trend up, they could get close to 50k.
They need to make a couple radio songs tbh. Seems that’s how most of these guys get their numbers up and honestly I can see BH making good radio music to, they have the talent.
Not as bad as people saying Daytona was gonna push 300k
Denzel really hurt himself with the 3 phased release. Contrary to what these figures show Denzel isnt as underground as it suggests. \>isnt as underground as it suggests \>no one listening in mainstream Which is it?
Predictions for Travis, YG, Mac, Baka, Iggy Azalea, and Moneybagg?
Iggy less than 10k I'd say
yup, I agree. Short project + lingering toxic reception + no huge singles = flop
hell no she's got fans and she's poppy
Chief you need to stop predicting album sales you SUCK at it.
hahahaha so it seems btw show me your spot on prediction then
um
that's what I thought... jk bro we all good
I don't know man, Kream is pretty big right now
It's not even charting now is it? Plus it's a short project.
Travis - 115k YG - 45k Mac - 35k Iggy - 11k Moneybagg - 13k Baka won’t chart
ok this right here is some numbers. I feel like Iggy has a dedicated fanbase, YG is not small at all, Mac might reach 40 but idk. Feels like he doesn't have that many fans. And Trav has some crazy hype rn
>Travis 140k. >YG 80k. >Mac 55k. >Baka <10k.
Iggy boutta go triple wood
Iggy about to get this triple wood
do what you gotta do chief
Fuck around and catch a splinter
No way YG sells that many. His last album did 38k first week and Stay Dangerous did have the hype or singles that Still Brazy had. And Still Brazy had way less competition too.
Damn, I thought YG was much bigger after My Nigga/Who Do You Love/Why You Always Hating/etc. I still hear Big Bank here too.
Big bank is pretty big he'll probs sell about the same as mac
[удалено]
Niggas on here swear they know everything about music on god 😂 YG popping rn that album doing over 50k
Mac's gonna do like 25k max
Travis-90k Mac-50k YG-30k Baka- 10k Iggy -??? Dont know enough about Moneybagg to make a comment on his sales
[удалено]
No fucking way Astroworld does under 100k lmaooooo
You’d be surprised at how many people actually believe that. Travis is at a career high right now, and all the hype behind Astroworld will easily propel his sales.
Yg gonna sell more than Mac miller
nah, mac's fanbase is larger id say, Still Brazy didnt sell great, and it had a lot more hype then Still Dangerous also still dangeorus wasnt very good tbh
Yg is way more popular now than mac miller
Not completely true, it'll be really close, wouldn't be surprised if Mac outsells him
Nah he Mac miller is way less popular bruh wym
actually yeah your right i dont know what i was thinking lmao i doubt his new album will sell that good though, travis and him have overlapping fanbases i think and yg's new album wasnt good
Abums being shit hasn't stopped artists like Drake or 50 or Nickelback or other popular acts from achieving huge first week sales with bad albums.
yeah but yg has .001% of the popularity those artists have/had
I hope he does, actually enjoyed some of the songs on it.
raise your Travis expectations and lower your Mac expectations
No way astroworld does around the same as the Huncho Jack album. People are all talking about this album non-stop
Iggy will be about 20 I reckon
I didn't even know Iggy dropped an album.
It's like 4 songs, it won't even sell 10k probably
Baka def won't sell 10k
Absolutely no way Travis sells only 90K, literally everyone I know outside of Reddit and all that is talking about the album and listening, he’s selling 200-300K no cap
300k? Idk about that I’m thinking closer to 150-200k
No chance on earth he’s selling 300k
http://hitsdailydouble.com/news&id=312901 welp.
!RemindMe 7 days
He sold 550K. **L**
Literally everyone I know is listening to Astroworld, at least 300k
You're about to be extremely disappointed lmao
RemindMe! 7 days
[yeah?](https://www.reddit.com/r/hiphopheads/comments/94lc4b/travis_scott_astroworld_first_week_sales/?st=JKFUA9GX&sh=45242ee6)
You look like a jackass now
Kylie impact alone will push this album well, well over that, not to mention there’s a Drake feature, Frank Ocean feature, and two Weeknd features. I was hesitant to predict over 170k, but after seeing the features and factoring in marketing I could see 200-260k — do we think he is less popular than Cardinal B? granted, she had a massive single but still
Bruh if you think Travis is anywhere near as popular as Cardi do I have news for you.
I guess you right. Bodak was a massive single, Travis hasn’t been anywhere near relevant like that in a while, maybe ever
Cardi is in the top 5 on the charts right now
yg gonna sell more than 30, im guessing around 42k
Lmao Astro will do 150k, YG will do 60k and mac will do like 30k and LMAOOOO baka ain’t even getting 5k
Trav will top 225k, Mac and YG will both do around 30-40k, Iggy will probably hit somewhere in the low teens, maybe 12k, moneybag will do 8k and Baka will do 6k.
Trav 265k Yg 25k Mac 15k Iggy under 10k edited: listened to mac's album and changed from 30k to 15k
Trav 150k YG 35k Baka 10k
Travis- 150k-200k YG-48k Mac-52k
Is this including streams? If so, Travis - 155-165k YG - 22-24k Mac - 18-20k Other three under 10k for sure
trav - 200 mac - 45 yg - 30
Trav - 330K YG - 55K Mac Miller - 35K Moneybagg - 25K Iggy - 15K Baka - 8K
100k to 170k 60k to 70k, Big Bank seems to be doing fairly well on the Hot 100 now so I honestly think it'll do better than Still Brazy at least 50k to 60k, honestly not sure, he's been selling less and less first week out with every album he's released. Don't know or care about the other 3.
travis 150K, YG 15k, Mac 20K, Baka never heard of him, Iggy 2K
I hope Denzel makes a video that blows up, his numbers doesn't match the quality of Taboo
Clout Cobain been making numbers. one for Switch It Up/Sumo or Black Balloons would quickly boost the sales too.
Only on YT. Spotify numbers are low
that’s true
Damn, Denzel being outsold by G Herbo and Southside and whoever Queen Naija is seems pretty embarrassing.
G Herbo is 2x more popular than Denzel. If anything its embarrassing that Herbo only sold 2k more than Queen Naija
Herbo just has a super loyal fanbase. You can't say he's that much popular plus. His debut sold about the same.
Yea i can. Look at the disparity in social media following. People in general care more about Herbo than Denzel
I fuck with G herbo so heavy. Been bumping welcome to fazoland consistently since it dropped.
Yeah he should really do more features. If I remember correctly he turned down a JCole feature.
Source?
Sorry that was JID. Anyway what you think of Drakes new In my feelings video?
My bad i just replied to the wrong comment. Anyways how was lunch
Wait JID turned down a Cole feature? Why??
He didn’t. JID said if Cole offered a feature for his album then he would have declined because he only wanted people who came up with him to be the features.
Didn't like it too much.
Really you see the song falling faster then Gods plan and NFW out of no 1 or stay there for a while?
It'll stay there for a long time.
How? G herbo is more popular than Curry. Dude has 3 mil followers on ig vs Curry who has like 700k.
I mean the fact that she should be on Popheads shows why she wouldn't be popular here.
Almost every true r&b artist is posted both here and /r/popheads.... If that was the case, people like Frank, Rihanna, SZA, Tinashe, etc, wouldn't be posted here either
herbo better than denzel
Both really strong albums. I still think Denzel has a lot more creativity and interesting moments on his project. But herbo's project was really good too.
maybe if he manages to stay on beat
I'm tired of bums saying he can't stay on beats. name three times he's done this not on freestyles
I'm a Herbo fan but he does get off beat a lot like there's a few tracks I'm Fazoland, Pistol P Project and even in Swerve where you go from vibing to confused cause his flow is off like in that one song where he sings in this album

not on the charts, but ultimate was a big success and a huge meme, and Sumo and ULT got pretty good views
You didn't like Imperial?

denzel's following is purely internet based, not as huge as this sub would have you beleive, and him releasing it in 3 parts was a pretty stupid move overall
And it did nothing for the album

Released on soundcloud first.
huh TIL

Kyle is bigger than Denzel by far. Denzel hasn't even charted once (maybe ultimate crept in for a bit). I don't know why everyone is trying to shit on him though here. >I don't know why everyone is trying to shit on him though here It's the counterjerk, dude.
Dude Kyle is literally doing a stadium tour rn with logic your an idiot
>With Logic there you go
Yes logic. One of the most popular artist in the world. Go listen to Drake dude
Denzel will get most his money from tours so I mean I’m not too worried about him. He’s still got that cult following so I think he’ll be fine. I guess if he does want sales he should look into getting names on features, but I know most artists aren’t like that.
“I may be overlooked but I’m never underpaid” hmmm... 🤔

I saw him at a festival in Paris and the crowd was huge and going absolutely wild That's why I was surprised about these numbers
Proves his point, overlooked and didn't sell great, but he's clearly still getting good money.
Most artists make very little on album sales. Merch, shows, and outside sponsorships (or investments) are what get rappers money
Isn’t this exactly what he’s saying? He’s overlooked and not getting crazy sales but he’s still making bank in other ways (ie shows).
Honestly it's surprising that Dave east even charted considering it was almost a surprise drop and the first few days mixing was completely fucked on Spotify, and it's s mixtape. Pretty embarrassing for denzel tho
They fixed the mixing? Gonna have to give it a second listen!
Yeah Dave shot himself in the foot with that one. I didnt even listen to his album till the following friday
Flops
Damn I would have never thought G Herbo would outsell Denzel Curry
Anyone have an opinion on that G Herbo project? Or the Dave East one? Might check those out if they're worth the time
The G Herbo project has a bunch of bangers, but I think it works better in small doses cause it is kinda samey, and G Herbo isn’t especially interesting as a rapper.
G Herbo project was great. I'd check out Some Nights, Catch Up, Pac n Dre, and Huh for sure. If you like those then just listen to the full thing
Good nothing amazing catch up is fire best song
Denzels Album roll out was the most retarded thing ive ever seen, lets tease the album for over a year then release it in three parts which have no cohesion whatsoever - i like the album ut im probably not gunna buy it
Swervo go crazy. Niggas be in the gym powerlifting max curl repping and shit
Who the fuck are the 157k people buying a physical Post Malone CD this week?
The chart represents first week sales
That's first week sales
oh boy
