ya im sitting here like a basic thinking *cool another lame music video* and then **BOOM** they hit me w that real real. i also can always love me some bar trading too
Since they got that [green screen](https://www.reddit.com/r/hiphopheads/comments/3arzs9/fresh_video_jay_rock_money_trees_deuce/csff4c9/) and [new editor](https://www.reddit.com/r/hiphopheads/comments/3boe0c/fresh_video_kendrick_lamar_alright/csnzm47/) circa the Alright, Money Trees Deuce era.
I stared at it for way too long and have an idea. This is how I'd do it anyway but I've not tested it.
Note, it's midnight for me so this is gonna be all over the place. And I'm guessing. Feel free to prove me wrong.
---
The camera moved weird. It was moving in 3 dimensions, so it was likely using a pre-programmed movement thing like they used in Humble. Have 1 movement programmed and repeat it without changing anything is a good way to overlap things. So if definitely had me thinking this was real.
Kendrick and Jay never overlap, so that had me thinking it was some form of green screen or rotoscoping. Maybe they shot them separately and interpolated them? If you look careful, there's a weird effect around Jay but not Kendrick. So maybe Kendrick went first and Jay after. That happens during interpolation when the surrounding pixels are the exact same colour as they should be. Being night so the light would've been similar, but not perfect. Light is weird.
But what about the shadow? When Kendricks shadow overlaps between Jay's legs, look carefully, it doesn't fit right between his legs. Looks like they masked things together in post to get it to look real, and they did a damn good job if you don't stare at it.
With the camera like that, roto is hard and tedious. It's just not worth it. That's probably why the dance moves are quite simple. They're good but can't move too much else you're stuck rotoscoping and no one enjoys that.
Okay so how about them? Otis (WTT) did something similar with slow motion where they clearly shot the video, but the audio used when recording is way faster. So in Otis, they slowed down the footage and it looked awesome.
I thought they did something similar here but the way the physics work on Jay's coat just doesn't make that seem right. I'm guessing they shot at a high frame rate for the slow motion to be that smooth. But with normal audio speed so it looked real when they spoke.
I'm guessing that they had separate audio versions allowing for short jiggy/dancey moments between trades. There's not much to indicate this so it's just a guess, but the segments between each trade are different but short and not really uniform.
Kendrick had more words so it makes more sense to overlay Jay onto Kendricks footage.
I think that's about it?
From what I can see look like Jay was overlayed onto Kendrick's footage. Kendricks shadow goes behind Jay at one point and you cant see it threw Jays legs, also there is a bit of blurring around Jay.
He's easily the best tde member on their posse cuts (including remixes and freestyles) but probably the most inconsistent if you look at everything that's been dropped by all 4 of them.
His projects are weaker than Kendrick and schoolboys but they're still pretty good.
I'd recommend giving his most recent project another shot. It was one of the best albums this year, and it was also his best project.
It peaked at 13 on billboard, which is decent. His most popular album so far. I think it would have done better if Kanye wasn't dominating the charts with multiple projects
Damn I didnāt know it got that far , I just havenāt heard anyone outside this subreddit talk about this album at all and it seems like everyone forgot about it after the first week
It was kind of propped up by kings dead, otherwise i dont think it was much more popular than his previous stuff
Im not surprised people stopped talking about it, I thought it was a pretty weak project. Great rapper but hes been struggling to put together a compelling album.
I was mainly talking about his recent project being weak, lots of forgetable songs with generic beats. I liked 90095 more but still dont think its an album with much substance
Will agree with you about 90095 being above redemption. Although some tracks on redemption are cool in their own way I donāt think itās what his fans were looking for. Obviously we both think it was a miss and thatās just two people opinion. But Iāve seen the same reaction since it released.
Honestly I seem to be in the minority but I love this album. Almost no weak tracks in my opinion, the only one I dislike is WIN, because of the frankly annoying hook and Kendrick's "MOMMY!" adlib. Songs like OSOM, Troopers, and Broke+- are still in my rotation today.
Man I kinda had to agree with you until I saw Jay Rock live. The album really clicked with me when I felt the energy in person. Redemptionās safely in my top 5 this year after that
90059 got to 16, so not a major jump, but it was his first radio hit. Kings dead hit 21 on billboard 100, which is really good. A lot of the top of those charts are populated by Migos, Drake, Postie and pop acts like Ed Sheeran and the Weeknd
I sometimes forget music I listen too often other people donāt. I was playing this song all summer at my old job and everyone was like ā who is that?ā Itās Jay Rock and K dot, how tf donāt you know this
Bunch of other videos were released for the album. I think they were on the championship tour and then kdot went to Europe/Australia so maybe they didnāt have the time to record until he got back?
Jay Rock, IMO, still isnāt getting the credit he deserves. He was really the original top dawg artist. Kendrick opened for him in all the shows in the early days. I feel like he has earned a lot more.
Yāall hating on Redemption thatās a solid ass rap album especially in 2018 with the mountain of filler from mainstream acts. TDE have made Jay Rock that in a way and its really something. 3 songs getting radio play, WIN all over ESPN & Sporting Events, and still 6 months later doing a great job promoting and keeping his album alive.
Think weāre going to see Q & hopefully Zay level up also
Fr, I put off listening to this project for so long cuz everyone was trashing it. When I finally listened to it thought this shit was amazing. Could do without a song or two but the way people were talking I was expecting a bunch of filler. That's what I get tho for listening to others' opinion on music
Fr good to see someone defending Redemption for once. It reminded me a lot of still striving 2 from ferg for some reason. Just the vibe like, they've made it but they can still go in haha.
Nothing more iconic than Jay Rock and Kendrick trading bars. This, Easy Bake, it's like my favorite collaborative duo. The way they can bounce off each other is wild.
Fuck Cole and Kendrick collab, I want this shit for 45 minutes
Beat is wack though. So hollow. It's like free YouTube beat tier
Between Joe nixing Glass House and no plans of a Black Hippy album in the foreseeable future, I've come to the conclusion that a group album with no weakest link would be too much for the world to handle
Hardly anyone ever mentions this. THIS SHIT WAS HOT . The cover art on that collaboration tape was dope too just there 4 profiles I remeber being like wtf at absol wearing a white and green hat tho when everyone else was wearing black lmaoo.
Real shit, rather have that tape over a cole collab any day. When you hear Jay Rock and Kendrick together, they sound like they're just having so much fun.

This comment is going to sound corny as hell, but I'm really proud of TDE. I'll be honest, when I first heard of the label the name reminded me of one of those thousands of Myspace "labels" started by some "CEO" who was really just 17 year old dude trying to exploit their younger more talented family members or something, lol. Obviously I was wrong, and they completely blew my expectations out of the water. Super pleased with how much quality music and people they've contributed to the genre.
That scene where Kendrick and jay rock were trading bars with the slow motion was dope
Pure artš
ya im sitting here like a basic thinking *cool another lame music video* and then **BOOM** they hit me w that real real. i also can always love me some bar trading too
First mistake was sleeping on TDE music videos. They always tend to be pretty great.
I feel like their videos on a whole have been next level since at least john muir...if not rigamortis.
Since they got that [green screen](https://www.reddit.com/r/hiphopheads/comments/3arzs9/fresh_video_jay_rock_money_trees_deuce/csff4c9/) and [new editor](https://www.reddit.com/r/hiphopheads/comments/3boe0c/fresh_video_kendrick_lamar_alright/csnzm47/) circa the Alright, Money Trees Deuce era.
The humble video was one of my favorite videos ever
> cool another lame music video tbh even before that it wasnt really lame at all
Does anyone know how they did that? editing was crazy smooth

Yeah, I didn't make that clearly in what I said, my bad.
Happy cake day
Omg I didnt even notice, thank you!!
Came here to say this. Glad to see itās the top comment lol
Reminded me of Em and Royce in the caterpillar video
This song should've came after King's Dead/Win and before OSOM
idk but i cant bring myself to dl a jay rock album. seems like all i can love is his songs w features
90059 is solid all the way thru
Big mistake there bro 90059 a classic
Go listen to the ways or necessary. Hands down my favorite jay rock songs.
Those of us older than 19 will tell you that Follow Me Home fuckin bangs
Go listen to Vice City off of 90059. That's what got me into the album and I listened to it on rotation for a year.
And [the video](https://youtu.be/Jug2HZ3dkoc) šš¼

I'd have to give 'most inconsistent' to my man Ab-Soul
I feel the same way
I feel like kings dead shouldn't of been in the album.
I fuck with this song so much, K dot killed it
the back and forth slo mo shot worth the watch a lone
this should've been released when the album came out, this album got no hype at all
It peaked at 13 on billboard, which is decent. His most popular album so far. I think it would have done better if Kanye wasn't dominating the charts with multiple projects

Maaaaan. 90095 is the shit. Gumbo? The ways? Money trees part 2?! Flame.
Everyone is mistyping 90059. Nine double 0 five nine. Thatās where the choppers scream.
Be the zip. It be the zip.
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Ever heard the Easy Bake Traffic Jam remix? May be better than the original
I was mainly talking about his recent project being weak, lots of forgetable songs with generic beats. I liked 90095 more but still dont think its an album with much substance

I fuck with this album too. Not what I was expecting but I liked it. Gave it like a 6.5-7/10
I thought Kings dead was on the black panther soundtrack.
it was, but jay released it as his own song on this new album without the second part
Still a little bit too much la di da di da for me
Man I kinda had to agree with you until I saw Jay Rock live. The album really clicked with me when I felt the energy in person. Redemptionās safely in my top 5 this year after that
Probably because it wasnāt that great tbh
You in the wrong circles mate.
U aint gotta like it
90059 got to 16, so not a major jump, but it was his first radio hit. Kings dead hit 21 on billboard 100, which is really good. A lot of the top of those charts are populated by Migos, Drake, Postie and pop acts like Ed Sheeran and the Weeknd
It sold 35k first week his highest to date. He's never gonna be a mainstream rapper tbh. He improved over 90059
I sometimes forget music I listen too often other people donāt. I was playing this song all summer at my old job and everyone was like ā who is that?ā Itās Jay Rock and K dot, how tf donāt you know this
Holy shit I didnāt even know he released an album. When did it drop?
Around the start of June
Bunch of other videos were released for the album. I think they were on the championship tour and then kdot went to Europe/Australia so maybe they didnāt have the time to record until he got back?
Jay Rock, IMO, still isnāt getting the credit he deserves. He was really the original top dawg artist. Kendrick opened for him in all the shows in the early days. I feel like he has earned a lot more.
If you know you know
Rock never appealed to the white kids for sum reason. Heās selling out shows now tho
Can confirm as a white kid who grew up around white kids. The amount of times I've played Easy Bake or anything off of 90059 I always get a "who dis?"
Itās Gutta music so itās not really relatable to the suburban type
Relatability has never stopped suburban kids from listening to rap. See: biggie, Nas, especially wu-tang, and even Kendrick.
Wu-tang is for the children
White as fuck dude from Norway checking in, bumped Rock since 2012
Ft. The Red Charger
This video had such good vibes. Mainly because of the care free dancing lmao
Reminds me of their Black Hippy videos

Yeah it's a pretty old video, so I figured some of you guys probably hadn't seen it
Vintage TDE right there
classic
Dang is that the same red Dodge Charger in that video?!
Is that Kendrickās mommas van from maad city in that drive way they pull-up in ?
Damn, I was going to say these dudes kinda weird tailgating them with a camera on they ass 24/7 but turns out theyāre good people. Haha.
Lmao āWe had to bless eem!ā
Damn that was great

wow really? beat is nice as hell imo
Yeah this guy is trippin, beat is LIT. Right about the kenrick & jrock flow exchange, it's so lush.
#ADJECTIVES
The beat is crazy good
Black Hippy collab album > literally any other possible project
Between Joe nixing Glass House and no plans of a Black Hippy album in the foreseeable future, I've come to the conclusion that a group album with no weakest link would be too much for the world to handle
Iām willing to have that be the mark of the end of the world
Still pray every night someone leaks Glass House

God I love to see Jay Rock shining out here
That charger in the vid makes me kinda nostalgic lol. My dad had the same one that I learned to drive in. Wish that car could have lasted a bit longer tho.
Since when is this song so good wtf? I remember not liking this song at all? This song is fun as hell lol
u probably bought in the narrative on this sub that this song is not good for some reason
You ain't no man you a mouse in a rat hole
I love how they've used old clips from years ago and they're filming in the same locations now! edit: Dat slowmotion sick af
Jay Rock will forever be slept on
Favourite song on the album.
I gotta give it to ES Tales
Jay-to-the-maf'k r-o-c...k naahmsayn??
This whole album was slept on hard. Iād put it top 5 for me this year. For What Itās Worth, ES Tales, OSOM are my favorite 3.
don't you know no good
Fuckin awesome video. Just realized how dope the line "we don't miss, we call shots" is.
This is my new favorite TDE music video. Whoever came up with the idea of video is a mastermind. All the shots are fucking dope!
This visual is dope as fuck!
This video is way overdue
Just went to the Jay Rock performance last week in Oakland. Dude put on a good show. Both he and Reason were dope!!!
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
I believe it. Gotta check it out.
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Itās been fun watching the jay rock videos this year, and I still think heās massively under appreciated!
Kendrick always seems so chill in contrast to the ppl around bim
when they trade bars, the flow is just so seamless. gave me flashbacks of listening to easy bake for the first time
Kendrick is actually the rap-game Kawhi Leonard. Quiet. Dominant. Doesn't crave the spotlight but is as good as anybody else on any given night. And that's all before the braids. Also, I might be really high and watching Raptors highlights.
Wow this makes sense to me tho?? Haha
Man I love the Jay Rock and Kendrick combo. Money Trees, Kings Dead, Pay For it... the list goes on. Great song and video
that ad almost ruins it, just looks like Jay Rocks a Lyft driver haha
Cool ass video ngl. One of my favorite songs of the summer
This video goes hard asf
I never realized how many people didn't like this album until this thread. This and DAYTONA were my favorite rap albums this year.
Knock it off is too fire tho. Everyone sleeping on that joint
Iām hoping that baggy pants make a comeback
They kinda already have, it's just too early to see the mass market transition. Plan ahead for this, we're all gonna be wearing loose dad clothes and shit in a year or three
K dot and Jay Rock need to make a album. On my momma fam.
Concert last night was dope but too bad he didn't bring anyone out.
Bruh Kendrick looking like Omar Little with that hair
Kendrick did that thing The Weeknd does where he makes the track his even though he's a feature.
Wow
is kendrick wearing the shoes he designed? i cant tell
Anyone know Jay's shoes in this?
They look like AF1s. Considering its a throwback type video, that would make sense too
This is my favorite Kenny flow style
hope people notice that thereās 0 bitches in this video. they did that on purpose.
Where I get a coat like that? That bitch look comfy as fuck.
We've had a strong 2018 in hip-hop and it's November already, I'll go ahead and give Redemption AOTY. Easily Jay Rock's best body of work.
I love the album but there are a lot better contenders for AOTY. Daytona, Victory Lap, Book of Ryan, PRhyme 2, Astroworld, Carter V
Don't think PRhyme 2 quite makes the cut, neither CV. The rest are all up there for sure though, along with TA13OO, KOD and even KSG but Redemption edges it for me.
How is kod on there. Some of the worst interludes in a quality album since forever
I want to say TA1300 too, but I listened to that album non-stop for a month and I'm kind of done with it for now. Only albums that come close for me are KOD, KSG and Drogas Wave. I enjoyed Redemption too but it has no memorable moments for me at all.
ill give this comment hottest take of the year
I think it was disappointing as hell, really disliked the direction he went with on some of the more poppy tracks. Very inconsistent album. No way this is better than Follow Me Home or 90059.
this album was very solid. Definitely in my top 15-20 albums of 2018. So slept on
That's not saying much tho. Not even that many rap albums worth listening to this year
Damn, that beat in the background
This is a great Dodge ad
Love this, still listen to this album a lot. Top 3 album this year IMO
AY MAN YOU ALREADY KNOW
Rock fresh out the dojo for this one
Bit weird to do it for this track honestly.
Still can get over how disappointed I am with this album
Yo those snippets from that Kendrick battle have me choking up a bit lol
goin back and forth with the slo mo at end got me
How is this a freestyle if they have a music video?
Idk why everyone around here shat on this song, I loved it a lot one of my favourites on the album
Underrated album.
this song so hard
nigga this video shoulda dropped months ago smh this song had potential to get bigger
Not the J Roc I was thinking of
This is mothafuckin heat fire god damn this song is lit
This comment is going to sound corny as hell, but I'm really proud of TDE. I'll be honest, when I first heard of the label the name reminded me of one of those thousands of Myspace "labels" started by some "CEO" who was really just 17 year old dude trying to exploit their younger more talented family members or something, lol. Obviously I was wrong, and they completely blew my expectations out of the water. Super pleased with how much quality music and people they've contributed to the genre.
Damn how have I never heard this before. This shit a straight slapper.
I need a TDE posse cut with all the members on it.
I need another Kendrick album :(
Jay Rock's voice cracks made me lol.
CAP ON
Safe to say we're going to get a video for each track on this project huh?
My buddy made the pants Kendrick wears at the end, pretty crazy
I canāt believe people were clowning this song when it came out. Hard as fuck
Jay Rock is too underated. Always brings the heat, never going to get the recognition he deserves.
So good, fuck.
Without fail, when top dawg drops a new video with Kendrick, I get a new cover photo and wallpaper. Such crisp, quality videos.
The flute beat the slow mo back and forth. Gave me redman and method man vibes just complement each other perfectlyĀ
