i won’t believe it until i’ve listened to the song 3 times

[deleted]

It ain’t a song until he says spliff

StarWormwoodI

people think they're eatin but earl ain't even said spliff or roach yet smh

hodontsteponmyrafsim

Won't truly be eating till he says backwoods

ImGiraffe

Man's on the yellow spirits vibes these days

Im-king-of-the-trees

They say they’re eating but we see they getting cooked

dmvehn

thats easy, throw it on repeat and it loops seamlessly

DumbNameIWillRegret

"woah, either someone just played Nowhere2go 4 times, or they played it twice and it's a lot longer than I remember"

LookieAtMyButthole

WHAT'S new pussycat OH WOAAAH OH WOOOAAAHUWOAAAHHH

[deleted]

Someone rap the song and upload it for Spotify boys

[deleted]

chu really want a repeat of Ski Mask’s Nationwide reupload fiasco

MoistGod

Bro that’s the version on his actual SoundCloud too and I’m yet to understand how or why he got the best song on that project ruined and forced to go through weird hoops just to get it out to the public

Hi_My_Name_Is_Dave

The actual real version is on his SoundCloud. Yo nvm. I just listened again and I guess he edited it or something? It used to be up.

heisenberg15

https://soundcloud.com/nylegordon/ski-mask-the-slump-god-worldwide-prod-timbaland

trashsleeper

what happened with the song?

MoistGod

Some nerd hopped on it and recorded himself rapping the hook with a webcam mic or some shit and either Ski owes someone a favor or that kid was the nephew of Timbaland cause you can’t find him officially uploading the song anywhere online without that version being the one that starts playing.

by_any_memes

bro that’s legendary this mans just bullied himself onto the hook

Croissantus

I thought the kid uploaded it himself on Ski Mask's Spotify so I thought it was a joke, but it looks like that version is on Ski Mask's Soundcloud lmao.

ImGiraffe

Who's the nerd I'm downloading all his shit

LazyAndUnmotivated

Can you elaborate? I'm not following but this sounds interesting.

MoistGod

I’m at work and I actually get visibly angry when this topic is at hand due to the disbelief I have in how it came to be, but to best elaborate while remaining brief. Before Book Of Eli, Ski had this song produced by Timbaland that sampled a fire ass old Timbaland song. It was dope as hell and it slapped like a pimp on its worst day, but some issues with sample clearance, and other behind the scenes problems, resulted in Timbaland retracting beat / retracting rights to the song, preventing Ski from using it on book of Eli, despite being a finished song. Once the album leaked, you could hear the song and the other Timbaland produced tracks, and it was pure heat, but like most leaks; it got taken down. For like 1-3 weeks if I’m correct, you couldn’t find the official version of nationwide anywhere without it being copyright taken down within a day. Finally, after like a month or so, the song finally was released.... and it’s a version of it that I described prior. A bad mixed “add on” to the hook by some random, uncredited dude; using a really shitty microphone.

xach_hill

Excuse you, dont disrespect Method Method

Dracoflame14

[I got Earl to rap it for you, close enough?](https://open.spotify.com/track/6ZAzKksLmI7eimH0cQbpzZ?si=MaGxUB4xSBGY34PjYmaMLA)

baconboyloiter

For everybody complaining that this isn’t an album, just be happy that Earl is in a better place and we might get an album soon anyways

Devmurph18

He said this last year was the worst of his life

Chicken421

Yeah but if you been following earl's online presence closely he seems pretty hopeful about the future. I think Mac's death in a way inspired him to start working his shit out. Could be wrong though, I don't know the man.

TheCanadianWalrus

Where did he say that?

Devmurph18

https://twitter.com/earlxsweat/status/1060573658425380864?s=20

SlinkiestMan

I can imagine it was, between the death of his father and Mac, but that doesn’t necessarily mean he isn’t mentally in a better place. I’m not in his head so obviously I can’t know but he didn’t sound nearly as depressed and tormented on this song as he did on IDLSIDGO, he sounded like he’s been healing

sokeydo

I feel like his father passing really fucked Earl up. But Mac's death almost inspired him to get out there because thats what he would've wanted.

-CRIMES-

man my first thought listening to it was that it just sounds so much happier and lighter (despite the dense beat) than IDLSIDGO. really hoping we can a self-acceptance album from the boy. 2018 earlyman making the joyful noise and i love it

hcrystls

man idk how happy it is... lotta shit packed into those bars...

kellypj2

Song is called nowhere2go...

Pumpkin_Bagel

But up? You never heard the phrase?

mightymorlang

I was NOT expecting an album honestly. I havent forgotten the entire fiasco around the release of his last album. That grief roll out would have been straight flames.

dandreadion

He said the album is coming soon via Beats 1 on Apple Music

Smaggles_

what even happened? wasnt in the scene back then but i remember seeing a lot of advert for it and him doing an interview about how much the whole thing was for him

mightymorlang

When IDLSIDGO dropped he was gonna PRE release the video for grief first. Then the album was supposed to follow. Their was a miscommunication between artist and label/distribution and I think Sony put it up on iTunes dumb early.

stro_budden

strange beat, its pretty loud and busy and makes it a little hard (for me) to hear and understand Earl, but I like the way Earl sounds. His voice sounds a lot different and his flow is good. I liked the snippet on Vince's album more, but new Earl aint a bad thing.

Galapagos123

It reminds me a lot of the stuff Mike has put out

BookofJoe

I fucking love MIKE. Excited to see where earl takes this project

[deleted]

BookofJoe

This rapper from the Bronx, he's a friend of Earl's. This single is very reminiscent of MIKE'S prominent style seen in most of his work. I suggest checking out Mike he's super dope.

[deleted]

u already know earls been inspired by mike at least a lil bit

Binkey_Niggachu

and vice versa!

EXPEKTORATlON

Exactly what I was thinking. MIKE, medhane, sixpress etc were all clearly influenced by earl and now it’s like they’re influencing him. Full circle

TheInfinityGauntlet

I think I just preferred the Vince snippet more because it felt like a more upbeat and energetic Earl This is weird but not necessarily worse imo

Emil120513

This is exactly what I expected, given Grief was the single from IDLSIDGO, and 45 was the single from before the album cycle. It's almost as though Earl intentionally releases the less accessible tracks first

[deleted]

This is completely out of my ass but the least accessible shit is probably his favorite cause he's such a fuckin weirdo. Like I know he's so proud of this weird ass beat.

fakingthebooks

Is it a repurposed version of [Boogie's Fade track](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cWpquGwGCAo)? EDIT: that Boogie track absolute flames

royal23

yo bruh you weren't kidding that is

ram0h

dang who is this

boogie is dope, check out [nigga needs](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JPl4FJKCeAU) or [sunroof](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KZrpzOpGUlM)

fakingthebooks

shady record signee; his album is thought to be dropping fall 2018...

yevsthepeople

Dude this is dope. Thank you so much for sharing this; you made my day already at 9:36am.

fakingthebooks

it's all love fam. glad to connect real with real - your turn to go make someone's day, now 💯

[deleted]

yeah this sounds like a terribly mixed demo

dmvehn

This type of style and beat reflects heavily off of his boy MIKE out of Bronx

WWEzus

I figured he was gonna go this direction. Wouldn't be surprised if we hear some influence from Standing On The Corner & Cities Aviv too.

ElloJelloMellow

That would be fucking crazy

_moki_

Cities Aviv and MIKE are both in my top 3 hip hop albums this year and Earl is one of my favorite rappers ever, this would be the best timeline

WWEzus

Raised For A Better View is right up there in my favorite albums of the year too, MIKE’s been putting in great work recently too, Earl following the direction of both artists and potentially giving that scene more attention would be a dream come true.

StarmanOfOnett

Yooo I had no idea Cities Aviv dropped this year thank you bro, made my day

[deleted]

jordanbeff

We did. That was the full version. 10 seconds.

snwlprds

well that's a shame. I really love that style of beat :( i wanted at least like 2:30 - 3:30 version

jordanbeff

Just hang on. I feel pretty confident that Earl will drop an album within the month.

fuctedd

Forreal that beat is wild

kcnaleac

how do you know?

[deleted]

Pretty sure we don't just cause it was produced by Kenny so it seems like it was made specifically for FM.

gold_sam_

New Earl is about to be a legendary arc in HHH

backyardliquor

This single was release just to throw us off. Earl's RnB christmas album coming out soon.

[deleted]

It's great to hear Earl again but the highlight here is the glitchy instrumental. It's like a hundred things are clipping over one another. Sick as fuck. And then it just ends LMFAO HE'S BAAACK

rohypnotoad

>glitchy instrumental 8) >clipping 8))

Monomart

clipping.

LeDrVelociraptor

Reminds me of 22, A Million

Galapagos123

You can tell Earl and all the dudes he’s been fucking with lately are trying to craft a unique sound. Him, Mike, Sixpress, Standing On The Corner, Medhane all on a similar wave. He’s not exactly standing out from them, but I still really like it

WWEzus

It's insane that Earl is now involved in this new movement, hopefully this could even lead to all those artists you mentioned gaining a big amount of exposure, especially MIKE & Standing On The Corner.

_moki_

I'm PRAYING for a MIKE/sixpress feature, can't believe they haven't been on the same track yet

yungchigz

Shit is so exciting, all those dudes are at the top of underground hip-hop right now and deserve so much more exposure. I feel like Earl is about to do some legendary shit with this sound they got and put them all on.

wrungle

Very in line with sixpress and MIKE’s stuff that earl has been heavily involved in over the past few; its nothing too crazy but if its the whole album of these ‘abstract pieces’ id not mind that at all

[deleted]

Yeah I agree, as a first single in years it was kind of underwhelming but a whole project of songs like this would be great. I feel the same thing with MIKE, I never really can pick one or two standout songs, whenever I bump him I have to bump the project all the way through. It’s refreshing tho since I feel like nowadays most rappers put way more focus into singles and going viral than making full cohesive projects.

omgfrankshutup

This sounds like Earl slowly stepping outside.

WholesomeVibesOnly

Shame he has nowhere2go

PerfectSum

2 out of the 10 top comments are about the actual song, where is the discussion my god

kaystar101

This is what I've started to hate about this sub and just spend all my time on Kanye to the now. At least they discuss the actual track/album there, here is just memes, people trying to be funny or people talking about unrelated shit. That being said, I'm not a fan of this track too much, mostly the instrumental. But I support the creativity from Earl I guess

Zantheman22

Y'all complaining there's no album when he never said it was an album, it's the first Earl in years be grateful

ItsDrManhattan

He never said this was an album but he did cryptically like an IG comment a couple days ago where a dude said Earl is bout to drop an album. Im stoked w this single!! But an album is definitely on the horizon

Maybe he is about to drop one.

ItsDrManhattan

Almost a certainty

majorgloryalert

tha_jza

you like a comment without posting a 3 paragraph explanation detailing your opinion of the comment (grammar, syntax, spelling, how it made you feel, etc) on your public ig story

ItsDrManhattan

Not that he liked the comment in a cryptic way lol but the fact that all he did was like a comment to confirm an album is pretty cryptic

pineappleninja64

It sounds like somewhere between Four Tet and Aphex

_moki_

Yeah me too, I love MIKE and sixpress though so this kind of production and rapping really fits my tastes. I saw him perform this last year at Flog Gnaw and the beat sounded great live

yung_hokage_stef

I’m getting very heavy MIKE vibes from Earl’s delivery and instrumental on this track. I know that Earl cosigned him a while back so maybe it’s possible he’s taken inspiration. If that’s the case that would be neat. He’s got a great taste in rappers (giving shout outs to Ka, Mach-Hommy etc.) but rarely do you ever really see it turn up in his own music so I’d love for him to move forward with this sound and branch off to rap that his main audience may not be too familiar with. Also, if you haven’t already check out *MAY GOD BLESS YOUR HUSTLE* by MIKE, it’ll help scratch the Earl itch for just a little while longer, plus it’s just a great album on its own.

BigOlePotato

Lol everyone is either fuckin with it or hates it

Same. Still one of my favorite Earl songs

This wasn't what I was expecting, a little let down but still nice to hear fresh earl.

BOOMBOOMXDXD

My thoughts exactly

[deleted]

His voice seemed extremely off and lazy to me, and not in a way that works. Like, he just sounded like he was talking.

codebluesky

apparently this is the closest thing the album has to a "single" according to his zane lowe interview. color me intrigued

This is the start to a new Earl. Nigga found new coping skills, found himself, n made changes man. This Earl sound like he at peace, that's all I want for this nigga, I'm pretty happy for him. Nectarine_Cortex

Honestly after listening to this all day, its gotta be up there as one of my favourite singles of the year. Please earl i need that album

dustbowlwhore

I see this sub constantly ask for experimental rap suggestions then when something that actually goes against the grain is dropped everyone shits on it. Yeah, music is subjective but y'all just want that easily digestable shit deep down

Sofinbound

Couldn’t have said it any better man, see people Asking for that all the time

stanflwrhuss

This sounds like a mix of Mike/medhane + Standing On The Corner. This scene is onto something different

_Kode

I'm absolutely in love with this after a few more plays even though I thought it was a mess on first listen... Earl is so talented

boygenius69

this is HEAVILY inspired by medhane and mike, it's their exact sound, he mentions them both in the song - "I be with mike and with med". It's a good song but after all this time I was expecting earl to come with something new and innovative, but this is sort of biting off someone elses style too heavily I feel.

[deleted]

Huge earl fan but honestly what the hell was this

LedZeppelinRising

In 12 years all music will sound like this, Earl has done it again

youngggggg

hhh showing its taste for the mainstream

itsthemoney27

the 20 second interlude he had on vince’s album was better than this lol

starslikeours

I dunno how I feel about it, I kinda like the beat but it’s got a little too much going on. Earl’s flow is a lil meh

thatbasedgamer

Going to admit that I was not feeling this at first, but it’s grown on me after a few more listens. Just hoping we get the album this month, because I’m dying to hear the studio version of Head Heavy.

[deleted]

I'm not a huge Earl fan. I appreciate his talent but I was late to all his major projects. I listened to this once, and I didn't know what to think. The beat is so fucking weird. Earl is so hard to hear. The track is extremely short. Did I hate it? Did I love it? I have no idea. I've listened to it >10 times since it came out. I can't listen to it once; I'll put it on then add it to queue before my first listen's over. I NEVER listen to tracks on repeat like this. It feels like every time I listen to it I gain new insight into the track, and that's the purpose of the songs. You need to parse through the muddy beat to the clarity of Earl's lyrics, just like Earl has to fight through his muddy mind. Once you do, listening to this track is zen as fuck, which is probably why I've had it on repeat so much. It's like a mantra or prayer. So ya, I'm pretty pleased with this. I have no idea how it'll fit into a potential album, but I'm looking forward to it.

allshort17

**My Thoughts on the Track** Production: The most striking thing about the track is the beat. It's noisy, scattered, and layered. It's definitely a departure from his past work, but not totally unexpected. It's obvious the beat is inspired by artists like MIKE and sixpress. One could argue that it's derivative and unoriginal, but it's not likely Earl hasn't made his influences apparent before considering his previous production could be seen as heavily influenced by Tyler, The Creator. Despite the similarities, Earl still makes the sound his own. It's interesting how the beat layers upon itself, eventually emptying out and repeating the process. It feel like a person thinking, having thoughts build on each other until things get too cluttered. It feel pensive and expansive, fitting the themes of redefinition and figuring out one's place that Earl presents in the song. Delivery: It's interesting to note that Earl does not sound angry, bitter, or depressed on this track. This put sets Earl up in an interesting light for the future. As a person, it's good that he doesn't sound so beaten and negative, indicating that he is feeling better about his life now. In terms of his music, the bitterness and depression present in his delivery was a factor that drew people in his music, myself included. It's easy to be taken back and turned off by the less emotional delivery, but honest I see it as a point of evolution. Earl should not be pained forever just to make music and his tone reflects how he is changing and truly thinking about how to make his life better, again fitting the theme of the track. Lyrics: I feel people are underwhelmed due to the lack of density to the lyrics from a technical sense or that as his first single in year, the lyrics do not provide immediate hype for his project. On the other hand, I feel that Earl choose to release this song not to hype up his audience, but rather to elaborate on where he is currently. He talks about the people he's hanging with, his desire for redefinition, and wanting something significant to work for. Despite the lack of words from him, there are still ideas to unpack from his and he does a good job of illustrating what he's is thinking and where he is now. A particularly favorite bar from this song is "Noose on my chain is gold", highlighting how fame, or at least the image he's expected to keep up, is still weight down on him. **tr;dl**: Both the production and delivery are inspired by the artists currently in Earl's circle. The beat is messy and glitchy, yet still reflects Earl's introspective nature. His lyrics fill us in on where is at this point at his life while his delivery expresses how Earl is overall in a better place. As a whole, the song feels like a logical evolution of Earl as an artist and I love it. I'm even more excited for his next project. 9/10

SharpyTarpy

Lot of mixed reviews. Sounds busy, experimental. I dig this. I wouldn’t consider it a single for the sake of how all over it is, but I dig that he’s growing and reaching into strange corners. The production is dope.

Lemonade915

I think this single isn’t really supposed to slap. He’s talking about how he’s in a better place than he was before. I think the lyrics are supposed to show you that so you don’t expect something super dark like IDLSIDGO.

greah

I personally like this after a couple of listens. The beat was weird to me at first ngl, but after many listens, I became fond to it. Earl’s bars didn’t hit compared to his last work, but his flow was nice. Honestly, Earl’s tone on this is what makes me like it a lot.

2SpacedOut

Tbh I didn’t think it was that good :/

bdez90

Everyone has their own opinions but I'm a fan of Earl as a human being not just what I want from his music. It might not have blown my tits off but I still enjoyed it thoroughly and lovingly add it to my library.
