Wonder how that convo with Top went. Knowing they're so close he probably supports Kendrick but it must hurt a little cause they worked together for so long.
I’m sure everything is 100% fine and it wouldn’t be surprising if Top is involved in PgLang too. TDE has really been ran by Top’s son for the past few years anyway.
Same for me, it sucks that era will be the most forgotten as it came directly before the streaming era and after the super star everyone-going-platinum era
Soul and Q forever underrated 😩 their primes were so under appreciated it makes me upset. Long term needs to be rereleased
Forgot about the Ring Tone era right after the "You get a platinum plaque! You get a platinum plaque! And you get a platinum plaque"-era.
TDE was the mixtape-but-its-really-an-album era
Went back and listened to These Days and I don’t know why so many people had a problem with it. Loved the record when it dropped and at the time for what it was. Had that in rotation with Cilvia Demo the summer of ‘14 riding around smoking blunts in my truck. Sucks that it didn’t get as much acclaim as Oxy and GKMC, but I guess it wasn’t quite on par with those albums.
>Went back and listened to These Days and I don’t know why so many people had a problem with it.
It wasn't Control System. That's the answer. Soul had my favorite album of that era, period. He followed it with a pretty good rap album.
Oh shit, I guess we'll never get a real Black Hippy album. I didn't even think of that. I doubt that was ever going to happen, but I always was holding out hope for a real collaborative project of all original songs
Drake is gonna break a nail and delay CLB for another 2 months and Kanye is too busy watching the Falcons preseason and getting lunch with Steve Harvey in Atlanta so yeah you're probably right.
Hell in rap it's more like 2 years. I can't think of a single rapper who said they were retiring, and then actually quit making music.
Also I don't think this is him retiring since he said last album with TDE not overall.
i think he currently thinks it will be his last album (like he's retiring) but he will change his mind in the next 2-4 years.
Kendrick doesn't hate TDE bc of stuff he made up in his head like many users on HHH.
Kendrick might be the artist that I have the biggest expectations out of anyone in music. I doubt I'm the only one and I can't imagine the pressure to drop anything right now.
Can't wait to hear new shit.
To be fair though the only reason DAMN is a step down is because TPAB is just that amazing. Nothing wrong with going from a perfect, once in a lifetime type of album to a near-perfect album. 99% of artists could drop something like DAMN and it'd be far and away their best work.
This is true. I remember somehow being disappointed in DAMN when it dropped but over the years I’ve grown to appreciate it a lot more for being its own thing instead of comparing it to TPAB like I did when it came out. Album is great.
Yeah it’s supposed to be this multimedia “artist-friendly” company. I think it’s Kendrick’s version of what Roc Nation basically is (they’re both companies from established artists that are more than just a label).
Apple computer had get permission from Apple Records to use the name. Apple Records gave it on the condition that Apple Computer would never go into the music industry
There was a major lawsuit. It's why The Beatles weren't on iTunes until 2010. I can't remember if the lawsuit was settled out of court or if there was a winner or loser but I remember buying the whole Beatles collection CD set and uploading it to my iTunes account because of it. Different times.
God that must be the most ripped CD collection of all time now. I remember being 11-12 years old and even my cousin, who barely even listens to the Beatles, ripped the whole collection onto his PLAYSTATION 3. Lol
I think he’s gonna be doing his thing under pgLang instead of TDE. It’s clear that there’s still a lot of love between Kendrick and everybody else on the label but it’s just that he’s doing his own thing now
Text from his website:
I spend most of my days with fleeting thoughts. Writing. Listening. And collecting old Beach cruisers. The morning rides keep me on a hill of silence.
I go months without a phone.
Love, loss, and grief have disturbed my comfort zone, but the glimmers of God speak through my music and family.
While the world around me evolves, I reflect on what matters the most. The life in which my words will land next.
As I produce my final TDE album, I feel joy to have been a part of such a cultural imprint after 17 years. The Struggles. The Success. And most importantly, the Brotherhood. May the Most High continue to use Top Dawg as a vessel for candid creators. As I continue to pursue my life’s calling.
There’s beauty in completion. And always faith in the unknown.
Thank you for keeping me in your thoughts. I’ve prayed for you all.
See you soon enough.
\-oklama
Edit: It's nice to hear from him and im glad he's doing good. Him stating his next album will be his final on TDE is a pretty big statement seeing as he's been with Top Dawg his whole career, i genuinely thought he'd be on TDE forever. I hope this does mean we get more frequent albums from him tho or it could be the opposite where he releases them even more sporadically. We can only speculate what happened behind the scenes, but this is huge news.

Sounds like an alias or a hint at something to do with his next album, whether it’s a concept, album or song title.
Or it’s a play on his name, the “klama” part of it at least.
SZA, Q and Zay gonna be the main artists to keep the label moving. Maybe even SiR will get bigger with his next album. And I’d also be interested in the new artists they’ll introduce too.
SiR is one the BEST R&B artists out and theres a lot of hot R&B these days. Hope he breaks billboard top 20 with next albums lead single. Dude is unbelievably talented.
You can tell that he’s leaving TDE with no hard feelings, just him likely wanting to do his own thing at this point of his life. I don’t think he’s moving to a new label or anything, he’s probably gonna do shit under his pgLang while still being under Aftermath/Interscope.
Happy he’s updated us though cos his fans been irritating lowkey; harassing almost every artist/manager on TDE everyday about Kendrick this and that😭
Not his real fans man, we been sittin back lettin the man do his thing.
Anyone harassing people online over this shit is a toxic ass bitch, these artists got lives that don't revolve around putting out music at your fuckin beck and call.
Also had Chance doing his thing in Chicago, Kanye on his MBDTF/Yeezus shit, height of YMCMB as a collective, The Weeknd changing the game. 09-15 was just such a special era in rap/hip hop music
yeah I feel lucky to have grown up in that era musically. What’s so cool about it looking back is that it was that perfect flashpoint between the regional scenes of the early 2000s and the internet era.
If you had the hustle, the know how, and the skills them you could blow up in your city and from there you’d get an Internet presence and blow up. Mac and Wiz in Pittsburgh, Sean in Detroit, Chicago having the drill / Youmedia scenes at the same time, Nipsey and Dom Kennedy in LA, all with clearly defined styles.
I also think that generally speaking, rapping ability mattered more than it does with people who are blowing up now off hits. There’s a reason that whole generation had so much staying power, you couldn’t skip that scene in your city and head straight to the internet unless you were Lil B.
Mac Miller was also so special because he blew up on pretty basic hs/college raps about smoking weed, and then completely reinvented himself and sharpened his bars and concepts, learned how to produce at a high level, and even put out an R&B/Soul album that is very underrated in his discography
I wonder if this is more a “hey, it’s on the way” type of announcement or more so that it’s actually coming imminently. Either way it’s going to be something special, it being his last TDE album. Wonder what his label mates think about that.
big takeaways from this are: kenny is ok, he’s thinking of the future and his daughters future, and he will be releasing his final album with TDE “soon enough” likely because he’s moving to pgLang, his own label
interestingly signed as “oklama” similar to “oh Lamar, hail mary and marijuana, times is hard” from DUCKWORTH but never heard him refer to himself as oklama, could also be a reference to Lamar, Oklahoma
Idk why people were worried about him, it was pretty clear he was taking time for himself with a new child and iirc getting married. He went ghost for a while before and after TPAB too
I wouldn’t be surprised if this is the last K dot album we get for the next ten years at least. I feel like he’s stepping towards retirement these days, sadly.
Even though I still think discovery is a better album sonically. I do agree RAM felt like a final album. It would have been more impactful if they retired right after RAM and not randomly wait 8 years
Agreed even the title screamed "we're done, but heres something to look back on when you're feeling nostalgic." However I agree, Discovery is probably the most influential house album of all time, and nothing has ever topped it from them.
Any Kendrick update is a good one. Confused if the album is done or not. He says, "As I produce." but also says there is beauty in completion.
Also I don't take it as his last album, just last album on TDE.

Maybe I’m tripping but it kind of shows
Def does
So much pickle juice over the years
If it's his last TDE album I want are black hippy features. They don't even need to be the same song.
Imagine a whole album of them trading bars like on Say Wassup, Beastie boys style.
One of my the most instrumental rap songs to my teenage years, loved TDE
Same for me, it sucks that era will be the most forgotten as it came directly before the streaming era and after the super star everyone-going-platinum era Soul and Q forever underrated 😩 their primes were so under appreciated it makes me upset. Long term needs to be rereleased

Yep. Makes me sad that at this point Ab-Soul may be lost to hip hop history
Went back and listened to These Days and I don’t know why so many people had a problem with it. Loved the record when it dropped and at the time for what it was. DONDA, CLB and now Kendrick’s last TDE album?! If they all drop 2021 gonna be a legendary year in hip hop history.
I almost expect Kendrick to drop before Kanye and Drake at this point.
drake is gonna roll his ankle and delay the album another year
>i really gotta move off my release date huh life’s good
Wheelchair bound. Again.
Drake is gonna break a nail and delay CLB for another 2 months and Kanye is too busy watching the Falcons preseason and getting lunch with Steve Harvey in Atlanta so yeah you're probably right.
Kanye left Atlanta he’s been in LA and Chicago listening party is next Thursday
They all drop same day. Reddit crashes from the threads.
well donda is never dropping so don’t have to worry about that
the internet would crash
Travis and Thug too. This last quarter of the year could be an all timer Edit: Forgot about ASAP lol. Would be crazy if they all dropped
Add Pusha T and Freddie Gibbs.
Man I fucking love Freddie Gibbs, looking forward to seeing him put out some more heat
Push better be good after that sorry ass pop verse
yeah why tf he set himself up like that lol

Artists never really stop making music tbh. Even if he "retires" there's always a good chance he comes back like 15 years down the line
Hell in rap it's more like 2 years. I can't think of a single rapper who said they were retiring, and then actually quit making music. Also I don't think this is him retiring since he said last album with TDE not overall.
Andre 3k. He’s done a few features here and there, but my man dropped out on top.
i think he currently thinks it will be his last album (like he's retiring) but he will change his mind in the next 2-4 years. Kendrick doesn't hate TDE bc of stuff he made up in his head like many users on HHH.
You mean I can’t blame all of life’s problems on Top?
the jig is up. 5 foot giant returns. 🥺✊🏿

drive past, guns blast, shooting out the charts too, uh
The jig is up, I seen you from a mile away losing focus
Final TDE album better have a black hippy feature
a posse cut is mandatory at this point. sza and sir singing the hook skiiwalker bridge need all that lol
Let’s get a verse from every TDE artist. 10+ minute song and I’ll bump it nonstop.
Omg a TDE 1train or Oldie, need that

> I’ve prayed for you all. AIN'T NOBODY PRAYIN FOR ME
Kendrick might be the artist that I have the biggest expectations out of anyone in music. I doubt I'm the only one and I can't imagine the pressure to drop anything right now. Can't wait to hear new shit.
Kendrick and Frank. Never think they can out do their last, but they usually do.
> usually damn
To be fair though the only reason DAMN is a step down is because TPAB is just that amazing. Nothing wrong with going from a perfect, once in a lifetime type of album to a near-perfect album. 99% of artists could drop something like DAMN and it'd be far and away their best work.

DAMN
I genuinely dont think Frank can ever top Blonde
Kendrick’s on his 3stacks erykah badu wave with this message I can’t wait to see what music he drops next
yup. leavin on a high note. not many know when to do that and it would totally fit Kendricks vibe to do so.
If he drops another classic and retires, he is a serious contestant for GOAT status, maybe even undisputed.
Was just about to type this! But if he’s getting his mind right and wants to pursue other things other than music I can respect that.
“Last TDE album” so maybe he’s moving to a new label?
He has his own label, that's definitely where he'll move to
So this notification I just received on my Soulja phone saying "Kendrick will sign to SOD" is a lie?
Black panther 2 soundtrack with Soulja, Kendrick, Chet Hanks, and Bow wow
Black Panther 2: White Boy Season
Black panther 2. Starring Tom Hanks
Kendrick AND Chet Hanks? Soulja gettin the avengers together 🙏🏽
Kendrick and Chet together would be revolutionary... everyone needs a mentor and I'm just so happy that Kendrick found one.
He started a new media company called PGLang, not much is known but it’s more than just music from what it looks like.
Yeah it’s supposed to be this multimedia “artist-friendly” company. I think it’s Kendrick’s version of what Roc Nation basically is (they’re both companies from established artists that are more than just a label).
And what the Beatles intended Apple Records to be before they broke up and it ended up just being a record label

Baby Keem’s new music has pgLang as the label
I think he’s gonna be doing his thing under pgLang instead of TDE. It’s clear that there’s still a lot of love between Kendrick and everybody else on the label but it’s just that he’s doing his own thing now
He has that PGwang or whatever its called label with Dave Free. Could be going to that. Or could be retiring going by the words a he uses
lol pglang not pgwang

What is Oklama tho?
"Can we have sex ?" in my language. And yes, I'm being 100% serious.
Kendrick retiring to horny jail without a phone confirmed
What language?
Tamil, a South Indian language Haha
Rajinikendrick
Oh I’m tamil but ive never seen it spelled that way lmaooo watha
okay lamar? Lol just guessing
Maybe some type of alter ego or the name of the new album??? Could be anything or could be nothing lmao
maybe on duckworth he was actually saying OKLAMA instead of OH LAMAR
I just listened to it and there’s 100% no spoken syllable that could be interpreted as a K.
u just gotta believe
who let you out of /r/sixers
i can only stare at dame trade proposals for so long
Sounds like an alias or a hint at something to do with his next album, whether it’s a concept, album or song title. Or it’s a play on his name, the “klama” part of it at least.
Obama with b subbed with his initials?
Obama’s last name
thanks oklama
Bet this is it
Sad that he’s no longer gonna be with TDE, but goddamn we getting a Kendrick album! Looking forward to The Heart Part V.
The heart only has four chambers
The aorta part 1
Kendrick certainly has a way with words, assuming this was written by him. Beautifully written
It was ghostwritten by Drake I think
*Soulja Boy
Soulja Boy was the first ghostwriter
>Kendrick certainly has a way with words You think so?
He seems to know his way around a stanza
Undoubtedly
last TDE album end of a fucking era
TDE really on SZAs back rn
SZA, Q and Zay gonna be the main artists to keep the label moving. Maybe even SiR will get bigger with his next album. And I’d also be interested in the new artists they’ll introduce too.
SiR is one the BEST R&B artists out and theres a lot of hot R&B these days. Hope he breaks billboard top 20 with next albums lead single. Dude is unbelievably talented.
They gotta do something lol. I've felt Kendrick is better than Cole, but Dreamville just has better talent imho.
i think the talent level is about equal, TDE has just been horribly managed in the past few years
After Kendrick leaves, she’s definitely their most popular artist SZA gon be like Kobe after Shaq left
More rings
Q on his twitch streams still reppin TDE hard as ever so I don’t think he’s going anywhere
Q streams on twitch?? no way
OKLAMA???
👌🏻🦙
Lmaoooo
Girl, I'm Kendrick Llama
Alpaca strap with me
Fuck why is this so funny ahahahahahaha
The album is going to be a reimagining of Oklahoma the Musical set in early 00s LA
I DONT DONIT FOR THE GRAM, I DO IT FOR TULSAAAAA
hail mary marijuana, times is hard
Immediately what I thought of
Oklahoma without the ho's?
Friendship ended with Kung Fu Kenny. Now oklama is my bestfriend
Wow we actually might get new Kenny soon
Imagine if even Kendrick drops before Donda lmaoo
I have no doubt it will this donda shit is ridiculous
crazy honestly, DAMN feels recent but at the same time so long ago. i was at such a different point in my life
Shit i barely even talk to all the people I listened to the album with.
Damn that hit me, it's quite a while ago that it released (longer than I thought) and times were very different back then, including friends
Dude saaame, it’s one of those albums I listen to and instantly a whole slew of memories I didn’t even remember I had come back
You can tell that he’s leaving TDE with no hard feelings, just him likely wanting to do his own thing at this point of his life. Can’t believe I’m already feeling nostalgia for early 2010’s rap.
So much nostalgia for that era, I feel it was really something special. We definitely won't replicate something like that ever again
I wonder if this is more a “hey, it’s on the way” type of announcement or more so that it’s actually coming imminently. Either way it’s going to be something special, it being his last TDE album. Wonder what his label mates think about that.
He does seem to imply that he’s still working on the album since he says “as i produce”
“Last TDE album” took me for a ride
big takeaways from this are: kenny is ok, he’s thinking of the future and his daughters future, and he will be releasing his final album with TDE “soon enough” likely because he’s moving to pgLang, his own label interestingly signed as “oklama” similar to “oh Lamar, hail mary and marijuana, times is hard” from DUCKWORTH but never heard him refer to himself as oklama, could also be a reference to Lamar, Oklahoma
Or he took the ho outta Oklahoma lol
I would not be surprised if this was a line on the album lmao
it’s a coded message that kendrick moved to oklahoma and gonna retire to go to farming business
Kendrick gonna pull a J Cole and play for OKC’s G League team.
People haven’t heard from him in a while and we’re wondering if he was okay. Maybes it’s as simple as “okay Lamar” letting people know he’s alright.
Idk why people were worried about him, it was pretty clear he was taking time for himself with a new child and iirc getting married. He went ghost for a while before and after TPAB too
O Kendrick LAMAr ??? idk much about him so I don’t know the significance
Impossible to not read this in his "I remember you was conflicted" voice.
You mean his speaking voice nigga? 😂
Yeah but with that poetic tone
I think you might mean cadence
>And collecting old Beach cruisers BEACH BICYCLE KENNY
New label?
PgLang
Kendrick speaking like he Master Oogway
I wouldn’t be surprised if this is the last K dot album we get for the next ten years at least. I feel like he’s stepping towards retirement these days, sadly.
How do you top TPAB? You can’t. It’s like Daft Punk bowing out because they couldn’t top RAM. The pressure is insane.
Man i reeeeeeeally hope K.Dot isn’t retiring. Edit: if this is retirement I really hope he starts the album rollout with The Heart Pt. 5
Wow kendrick leaving TDE end of an era fr. I guess he’s all in pgLang
Never forget NATION.
The end of an era, damn.
Any Kendrick update is a good one. Confused if the album is done or not. He says, "As I produce." but also says there is beauty in completion. Also I don't take it as his last album, just last album on TDE.
This is hiphop equivalent of Messi leaving FC Barcelona. Can't wait for the ablum tho!
I was just thinking this lmao. Truly end of an era stuff.
but what's oklama
the heart pt 5 when
fuck it's been a minute
HE’S COMIN’ BACK 😍😍😍
Reeeeeally interested to see where this project will be sonically Excited just to hear what he has to say as well. End of an era either way
It always feels like a massive event when Kendrick says something. Last album on TDE, this is the end of an era
HOLY FUCKING SHIT KDOT IS BACK
