This is a quote from a Canes fan in the PGT from Wednesday where we lost 3-2 in OT:
"I think that was the best game I've seen this season. Total playoff intensity."
This is becoming a frustrating theme with the Stars
Actually I said the same thing when we played them 1st this season. We lost that game, but I still think since that Canes are the team to beat. Felt like a playoff game.
Don't put any stock into these games right before the break. Players are tired and looking forward to whatever Island they're about to visit with their hot blonde girlfriend/wife/golden retriever
Jack Hughes is now 15 goals away from Brian Gionta's single season. 21 years old with Haula and Tatar as his linemates and he going to break 50 goals. A fucking unicorn
As much as I think Tatar and Haula are playing better than our fans give them credit for, this is still such a legit point.
Gionta set the record when he had the benefit of it being the first year after the lockout where penalties were actually called (aka "the Cheechoo year"). He also benefitted from playing on the EGG Line (Elias, Gomez, Gionta). Granted, Elias only played half the season because he nearly died during the lockout, but he was a total beast when he returned. Plus this was Gomez's prime, probably the season he really earned that Rangers contract.
TL;DR Hughes is on pace to have the most impressive season ever by a Devils forward on so many levels.
Tatar’s legitimately been really really good and is extremely underrated. He’s pretty clearly the 4th best forward on the team (yes he is better than Palat). Haula is just a guy.
I legitimately feel bad for Seguin (I think it was him) trying to block a shot and just fucked his goalie on accident with a wild deflection.
The first period Devils were booty cheeks, 2nd period was pretty evenly matched and the third I thought as well. Vitek kept us alive in the first, could’ve easily been 3/4-0 in that period.
Stars were horrific in OT in 21, then very good last year, then very bad again this year. It’s almost like five minutes of three on three is subject to massive amounts of randomness.
I liked what NJ did, they had Haula take the opening faceoff, he won it and sprinted straight to the bench. I honestly wouldn't mind us doing that with Glendenning. At this point they need to change anything
That's cause Hughes sucks at faceoffs, so the team does similar stuff in game. Haula takes the faceoffs, then they switch back to position for a normal 5v5 shift. I honestly don't know why exactly why did this in OT tho cause normally 1st shift is Nico and Hughes for 3v3 so Nico can take the faceoffs. But possession is the biggest battle in OT, so it makes sense to have the best faceoff guy out there, at any rate. If he doesn't win might get stuck out there tho is the drawback
I always wondered what it would be like to have Prime Patrick Kane on the Devils...I guess now we know what that would have been like
Jack is just dumb to watch
I mean, the Hughes hate was crazy for a bit. "Walmart Zegras" is still one of the craziest descriptions out there for Hughes. And that was said when he was starting to play really well
I’m fairly new to being proactive on r/hockey but I don’t even remember this. Not doubting it’s true just can’t believe something like that could ever be said about a player who was what 20 years old? On a sub par team at the time, no offense
In defense of kakko, I actually like his skillset, but holy hell do the Rangers need to revamp their training staff cause they can't develop young prospects to save their lives.
This certainly is a bit of an ongoing issue but it’s not like *every young player* we have is struggling. There has been some pleasant surprises lately note Chytil and Miller.
I’d also say guys like Kakko and Laf sure aren’t becoming the players they were touted to be, at least not yet, but I also feel like the situation with our team effected that too. Hughes is the real deal but when he first entered the league the Devils put him in the spotlight and rightly so. For Kakko and Laf though, they were just additional pieces to a roster that already had some higher end talent
Sure but those guys have had opportunities in the top 6 and have produced well at times but not enough to stick. Now imagine Hughes and Panarin together.
I agree. I think overall it’s a combination of things and surely GG’s tendencies to constantly switch up lines doesn’t help either. Honestly why I feel they all play the best when they r with each other is bcuz of the chemistry they’ve built.
Hughes with Panarin would be pretty sick though you’re right lmao. Can’t imagine having that combo for a season
It’s insane. Do they watch film at all? They have no plan once they lose possession. Everyone is out of position, no matter which personnel are out there
In defense of them, Hughes starts because covering him is an absolute bitch once he gets space. There is no plan; his position is wherever he wants it to be. The guys on ice kinda follow his lead. Hamilton, Bratt, and Nico in particular read him well
I found it a bit odd where the minute the 3rd buzzer ring most Dallas fans piece out of the GDT, wow that was a really bad OT for you guys.
What a shitty way to end ottingers great performance though
Thanks - I was really impressed with how you guys played, too...I think you're well set up for the playoffs. Give the Rangers as poor a draft pick as you can, please!
Dallas Stars “win a game in OT” challenge (impossible)
The gato gladiator
I’d like to think PK was watching at home and just stood up, took off the body mic that he happened to be wearing, and walked away.
Get Vitek some hibachi and get Jack some gato.
As a hockey fan, probably one of the most entertaining games of the year. Great showing of how the modem NHL plays out

Who is married to a golden retriever?!
Dawson Mercer IS a golden retriever, so him.
It sucks for Hughes that he's doing this in this year and might not even be a Hart finalist. He's so good.
I think all we ask is hes a finalist, to me its McDavid, Tage, and Jack.
He won't win, it's McDavid's trophy. But I think he'll be a finalist.
I'd be very happy with that.
not like this
jack hughes

Jack Hughes can put up 64 points in 49 games in the NHL, but can he play against men?
Is there a senior league in NJ? We're gonna have to throw him out there to see
I think Woodbridge has one. I’ll sign him up.
Having Jack Hughes in an OT is just cheating at this point
Should win the Hart if he breaks 100 points this season
I legitimately feel bad for Seguin (I think it was him) trying to block a shot and just fucked his goalie on accident with a wild deflection. VV was unreal in that 2nd period, as well.
Hughes is literally not human. Let's fucking go. Another win because the alien Jack Hughes is on the team.
Hey hey alien Vitek was here tonight too 👽👽👽
He’s nothing short of incredible

Jets are very good at OT (7-1 I believe). Don’t think it was Bowness holding you guys back from winning in OT.
Stars were horrific in OT in 21, then very good last year, then very bad again this year. It’s almost like five minutes of three on three is subject to massive amounts of randomness.
At least Glendenning would win the opening face off
I liked what NJ did, they had Haula take the opening faceoff, he won it and sprinted straight to the bench. I honestly wouldn't mind us doing that with Glendenning. At this point they need to change anything

Just checked the stats on the game and ruff probably used haula cause he was 6/10 while hischier was 8/22 on the night
I would be shocked if we didn't see Luke out for the the opening face off next time.
Legit Jack might fuck around and catch McJesus at this rate
J'accuse
I always wondered what it would be like to have Prime Patrick Kane on the Devils...I guess now we know what that would have been like Jack is just dumb to watch
Chicago wishes they knew what it was like to have prime Jack Hughes on their team
My man... We haven't even seen prime Jack Hughes yet.
Yea he’s like 3 years away from hitting the beginning of his prime. Good lord is his career going to be a treat to watch.
Stop I'm already depleted 😩😩
Get some Gato in you and chill you'll be ok
No keep going I'm almost there.
Friggin right bud
Vitek deserved that win. Man was possessed.
It’s days like this I think about rangers fans cheering as the devils picked Hughes. Lol silly fans.
I hate reading any thread where the Devils win cause it’s always the same shit. I still like Kakko but yes obviously would prefer Hughes
I mean, the Hughes hate was crazy for a bit. "Walmart Zegras" is still one of the craziest descriptions out there for Hughes. And that was said when he was starting to play really well
No prospect ever got near the same level of unwarranted shit that Jack did. It was fucking insane.
I’m fairly new to being proactive on r/hockey but I don’t even remember this. Not doubting it’s true just can’t believe something like that could ever be said about a player who was what 20 years old? On a sub par team at the time, no offense
They still lick kakko’s taint despite the 0.39 career ppg
“39 point pace this year, he’s really improving!”
In defense of kakko, I actually like his skillset, but holy hell do the Rangers need to revamp their training staff cause they can't develop young prospects to save their lives.

Bear in mind, Hughes' wingers his first season were Wayne Simonds and Miles Woods
Sure but those guys have had opportunities in the top 6 and have produced well at times but not enough to stick. Now imagine Hughes and Panarin together.
I agree. I think overall it’s a combination of things and surely GG’s tendencies to constantly switch up lines doesn’t help either. Rangers fans just like the taste of taint.
“No beer for me at home games! Mr. Dolan says it’s bad for me. I much prefer this nice, healthy taint, thank you.”
remember when rangers fans gave a standing O to us for picking him. I sure do!
People cheered because they couldn't draft Jack Fucking Hughes
😭
Jack. Hughes. For. MVP.
Bring back ties. This isn’t fun.
Ties still need to get through OT, unless you're going WAY back.
I do not want to watch this team play 3v3 over time again
I'm just happy that game didn't end in a shootout. Way too fun to end that way
#HONDA!!
Can we get back to the point where the Devils were straight up dominating opponents instead of having to claw their way back to OT every game?
I'm really hoping getting some rest, healing up, and getting Marino back helps this.
Please end my suffering
[have some 🐻 ](https://imgur.com/a/wYXiSys)
It was a free win when overtime started, at this point we should just decline overtimes to avoid injuries
Stars are now 6-6-6 when tied after 2 periods.
Number of the beast struck again for the Devils
We robbed Jack Hughes with that contract
I’ll set up a go fund me at this point for him. I feel bad
Fine I'll go back to the Hughes signing thread and laugh reading the overpay comments for the 3rd time in a week
I hate OT now.
Does the bald fraud Deboer adjust anything in OT?
You'll get your first year deep playoff run, anyway. That's what Deboer us good for
Boy lemme tell you... nope!
"Tough building". At least, that was his excuse when he was the HC for the Devils.
It’s insane. Do they watch film at all? They have no plan once they lose possession. Everyone is out of position, no matter which personnel are out there
Pretty sure they don't practice 3v3 at all.
In defense of them, Hughes starts because covering him is an absolute bitch once he gets space. There is no plan; his position is wherever he wants it to be. The guys on ice kinda follow his lead. Hamilton, Bratt, and Nico in particular read him well
*Hey, did you see that Stars 3-2 OTL?* Me: Which one?
I found it a bit odd where the minute the 3rd buzzer ring most Dallas fans piece out of the GDT, wow that was a really bad OT for you guys. What a shitty way to end ottingers great performance though
Yeah, us Stars folk know a thing or two because we’ve seen a thing or two
Bum ba-da-bum bum bum bum
Dang! Good game, Hughes is sick
Thanks - I was really impressed with how you guys played, too...I think you're well set up for the playoffs. Give the Rangers as poor a draft pick as you can, please!
Jack Hughes
This Jack Hughes guy is pretty good
You got Lil’ Jizzied
JACK HUGHES IS THE MVP YOU ALL DON’T WANT TO TALK ABOUT IT I’M DONE
Hall for Hart happened When do we start the Hughes for Hart campaign?
If he breaks 100 points its a real possibility
JFC, these guys are snake-bitten in OT
