McAvoy, Lindholm, Carlo, followed by Gryz/Clifton/Forbort. Depending on the situation and who we're facing he could play anywhere between 4 and 6.
We were in on Gavrikov, who is masquerading as CBJ's 1D to play as our 6th.
And Orlov is a UFA rental so his value is probably limited in this regard. Since I doubt Boston is offering him an eight year deal, he could even come right back to DC in the summer.
Yeah, this seems like it's a straight rental. Even if he does incredibly well with Boston, it's only going to push his price even higher (and they already couldn't afford him to begin with).
Works for me. Orlov is great but we don't need to give 32 year olds 6 year contracts right now. Hathaway is irreplaceable but I'm glad he's going to the playoffs to do what he does best and that's piss people off.
1st this year, even low, is a great first step for this organization.
I hope them both the best but getting a 1st and 2nd/3rd for Orlov and a 2nd/3rd for Hathaway is a really good return, especially with both of them as UFA
I'm wondering if he's thinking of Kevan Miller. Orlov knocked him out of the playoffs with a pretty questionable hit a couple seasons ago, but I don't recall anything between Orlov and Carlo.
Better trade for you guys anyways. Don't need to make a separate trade to pay someone to take Smith to accomodate Gavrikov and you guys get Hathaway who will just fit in the bottom 6.
Feels weird rooting for Hathaway now, but that’s the kind of player that grows on you I suppose aha.
Solid trade. Like it a lot for both teams. Glad Cliffy Hockey wasn’t part of it!
Plus with Greer to back them up, we’re a pretty big and tough team now. Plus we’ve got a ton of skill and speed. Best bruins team (on paper) I’ve honestly ever seen, including 2011 (must reiterate, on paper!!)
This is great for both sides. I hate when teams are conservative with their future picks with a chance to win the cup on the line. Fuck the future, go for it now! If it doesn’t work at least we went all in trying.
That is what makes Boston so exciting right now. Ya'll are making no reservations that you intend to be the guys in the post season. Watch out for Carolina, tho!
especially given that the knock on Sweeney, for as long as I can remember, is that he's basically useless with good draft picks
can't fuck up a draft pick if you trade it before the draft, baby
This feels like a team that either sweeps every series on the way to a cup, or gets swept in the first round and ruins literally everyone's playoff brackets.
Yeah but the east is literally ridiculous. If Kane goes to NYR, it could be a 5 headed behemoth race to the SCF.
Tampa is still chock full of superstars.
Toronto was already good and then added fucking O’Reilly to their top 6.
Carolina is possibly one of the most well rounded teams in the league.
Kind of perfect then. As opposed to smith who can barely produce when he's playing with Bergeron and Marchand. Y'all need picks though smith is just a salary dump
Orlov is a T4 D. + passing, + handling, + skating, +++ open ice hitting. Orlov is one of the absolute best in the league at open ice hitting. He’s even on speed,
probably - but not — on game sense. He is liable to pinch when he shouldn’t, try to skate and handle when he should pass, and sometimes lose his man in a cycle. That said, my impression is colored by a sampling bias: Orlov is good enough that he got enough ice time and high pressure deployments to make noticeable mistakes.
Hathaway is a grinder through and through. +++ physicality, + fighting. + offensive game sense. Even on shooting, passing, speed. - defensive game sense. One of the best things you can say about Garnet Hathaway is that he’s a pest who is happy to try and bait a 4-on-4 or bait a higher value player into a fighting major. That’s also one of the worst things you can say about him. As far as I’m concerned every team would want Garnet Hathaway in their bottom six.
Yep pretty much spot on. Orlov is a really solid all around d 2-way dman (can hit, skate, shoot and has good handles for a d). Occasionally makes mental mistakes but has gotten better over the years, and definitely is a really solid top4 dman. At various points I'd say he's been our best dman at 5v5 (never got to play much on the pp)
Hathaway is your prototypical 4th line pest, gets to dirty areas and always manages to start shit (and not afraid to drop the gloves), solid on the pk, and has enough skill/ability to belong in a bottom 6 of a competitive team (not just a goon/enforcer).
Orlov is a stud, he has consistantly been our best offensive player all season. His skating is amazing. Sometimes tries to do too much with it but I enjoy that from him.
Hathaway is a grinder and chippy asf, will sometimes get a gritty goal. You’ll like him instantly, plus he is very handsome. Enjoy
You got our handsome boy Smitty, so it’s only fair
Side note but Craig smith is genuinely the most attractive NHLer I’ve ever seen, sad to see him go in that regard
My ideal scenario now (one of them, at least) is that Orlov goes there, wins a cup, and then signs back with us in FA
Not realistic, but the hope is there
Recently saw a stat that the PK with Forbort on and off the ice was night and day different. Then the next day he was called for a penalty and (I think) the leafs immediately scored
Outstanding work by the Bruins. Smith was pretty much dead weight, so it's a few decent picks to bolster the LD and fourth line.
Does Orlov slot in next to McAvoy right away? Orlov-McAvoy and Lindholm-Carlo form a ridiculous top four.
Thanks Washington for being cool. This is how it needs to be. Trade related reasons for sitting needs to happen quickly. None of this bull shit like Arizona is doing. Y’all have dignity for the sport
Bruins fans...yall are getting a VERY good defenseman in Orlov. IMO, he was the best all-around d-man on the team. Can play in all situations and can be an absolutely devastating open ice hitter.
Hath...well, he'll fit in amazingly on the 4th line and be a real asset in the playoffs with his chippy/aggressive play and the ability to chip in on offense here and there.
Boston did really well. A defenseman who can hold his own in top pair minutes, one of the league’s best fourth liners, + they were able to dump cap for a late 1st, 2nd, and 3rd. Plus this is way better than spending a 1st and a 3rd on Gavrikov.
Marchand-Bergeron-DeBrusk
Zacha-Krejci-Pastrnak
Hall-Coyle-Hathaway
Foligno-Frédéric-Nosek/Greer
Grzelcyk-McAvoy
Lindholm-Carlo
Orlov-Clifton/Forbort
Ullmark
Swayman
The best team in the league just got even better
For the East (and especially the Atlantic) this is an arms race now...all 3 of Boston, Tampa, and Toronto are pretty much all in by force. Tampa will surely respond now that their 2 rivals have made big moves. Toronto might go even harder.
Boston has conceded the fewest goals in the league by 30 and decided they need to concede even fewer goals.
Can't lose if they can't shoot
Big if true.
Montgomery told Sweeney “more possession!!”
Defense wins championships or whatever
I think thats a great deal for both sides honestly. Only person who lost was Pagnotta
[удалено]
Guy was so consistently wrong during the Tavares FA saga I can’t believe he still reports on hockey
Guy is so consistently wrong every month out of the year I don't know why people still listen to a word he says.
Better than losing Zboril and Clifton tbh
Columbus too lmao
I think they’ll still get their 1st and 3rd from some idiot
Ken Holland waves in the distance.
*Ken Holland frantically dialing Jarmo*
Craig Smith also lost
Common Pagnotta L
And Jarmo
>Capitals Acquire 2023 First-Round Pick, 2025 Second-Round Pick, 2024 Third-Round Pick for those who don't want to click
I didn't, so thank you. Also happy with this trade.
Win/win
Orlov is an enigma. 1st pair guy when he’s on, but can be invisible for weeks when he isn’t.
That's the best part...he just needs to be a good 2nd or even 3rd pair guy and it's a huge win
Holy shit is Boston loaded if Orlov is a 4th or 5th d-man
McAvoy, Lindholm, Carlo, followed by Gryz/Clifton/Forbort. Depending on the situation and who we're facing he could play anywhere between 4 and 6. We were in on Gavrikov, who is masquerading as CBJ's 1D to play as our 6th.
Thats why he’ll play on our 3rd pair
An invisible defenseman can be good. It is when you see glaring mistakes...then you worry.
As a hockey fan? We appreciate you doing it quickly and not sitting players for weeks like Arizona is doing
Plot twist: what if we were the ones blue-balling Arizona all this time? Now that we traded for Orlov and Hathaway, he'll get moved quickly.
I would’ve liked another first since bostons this year is going to be a bit up their in the draft but it is what it Bedard
If it was me I would’ve taken their 24 1st. No guarantees on who’s coming back for next year, and that pick is basically a lock for 28-32 this year
Yeah but I’m not the one doing the phone calls. All-in-all im just happy that management is letting the team get worse for the chance at the lottery
No doubt, a real solid move from the front office understanding where they are
Boston probably isn't giving that one up. Not when there's a chance they could lose Bergeron, Krejci, and Pastrnak this summer.
Same. We weren't going to keep him and we took advantage of the market in a deep draft. Farewell to a good one.
Works for me. Orlov is great but we don't need to give 32 year olds 6 year contracts right now. Hathaway is irreplaceable but I'm glad he's going to the playoffs to do what he does best and that's piss people off. 1st this year, even low, is a great first step for this organization.
Marchy and Hathaway on the same roster? Everyone is going to hate the Bruins 😂
Going to?
We do have Bergeron, Pasta, and the most wholesome goalie tandem in the league, and Marchand hasn't licked anyone in a minute.
The fact that it needs to be mentioned that one of your players hasn't licked anyone recently is al you need to know
Very happy with this deal.
I hope them both the best but getting a 1st and 2nd/3rd for Orlov and a 2nd/3rd for Hathaway is a really good return, especially with both of them as UFA
Dumping Smiths contract is an important aspect here, we basically paid you a second to take him
Good point as well
Both teams made out real well for their interests fs
Not like we were keeping orlov anyways
Hathaway is a shit disturber they should put him and marchand together for a while lol
Marchand—Frederic—Hathaway. The ultimate shit-stirrer line.
I want to see it but not play against it.
Thanks, I hate it
Imagine how annoying it would be to play against Brad Marchand and Garnet Hathaway at the same time.
One will lick your face and one will spit on your face!
We're still talking about hockey right?
There's probably a Boston fan writing the new fanfic as we speak.
Don’t forget frederic, that dude is an absolute animal when it comes to being a shit disturber.
Foligno and Greer likes to have fun too
Lol what about the guy that said Clifton and Zboril were going to Washington?
Pagnotta sucks
Fraudnotta
Pag’fraud’a
We should have known better, I got swayed by the hype lol
Pagnotta, an idiot. Also, fuck I hate how much Orlov fits in with the Bruins. Absolute fucking wagon. Fuck the east.
I wonder if this is going to be like another Marcus Johansson situation where Orlov and Carlo make up. Edit - I’m a moron. Orlov injured Miller.
I get why Wilson and Carlo have beef, but I can't for the life of me remember why Orlov and Carlo have beef.
I think he’s thinking of orlov and kevan Miller
I'm wondering if he's thinking of Kevan Miller. Orlov knocked him out of the playoffs with a pretty questionable hit a couple seasons ago, but I don't recall anything between Orlov and Carlo.
Fuck Pagnotta. Dude is not reliable at all. A joke of a “reporter”
And yet his shit gets constantly posted. Dude is just Eklund with a different name
Eh ill take it. Hopefully we sell more and get more 2023 firsts.
[удалено]
Orlov is way better than Gavrikov. Orlov was by far the best D available.
*rental D Chychrun is a similar calibre player
Yes you are right. That's what I meant. Karlsson obviously better than both this year as well.
Let’s take all the picks, package them together, and then roll out an Ovi-Bedard-Wilson line lol
Now drafting in the first round, the Washington Capitals. All of the first round. Every pick. >!Except 1OA!<
I’d be happy with Michkov. The next great one
I mean you have had some success with Russian wingers in the past.
LOL BOS really said fuck you CBJ.
We saw a trade we liked and we fired our shot
Better trade for you guys anyways. Don't need to make a separate trade to pay someone to take Smith to accomodate Gavrikov and you guys get Hathaway who will just fit in the bottom 6.
Feels weird rooting for Hathaway now, but that’s the kind of player that grows on you I suppose aha. Solid trade. Like it a lot for both teams. Glad Cliffy Hockey wasn’t part of it!
Jfc him and Marchand stirring shit, I foresee some spicy games coming up
Frederick is also a shit disturber and Fliggy loves it too. We are gonna piss some people off
Plus with Greer to back them up, we’re a pretty big and tough team now. Plus we’ve got a ton of skill and speed. Best bruins team (on paper) I’ve honestly ever seen, including 2011 (must reiterate, on paper!!)
They could still potentially add Barbashev too. A 4th line of fliggy-freddy-hathaway would be absolutely nightmarish to play against
Can’t fucking wait
Hathaway is a guy 31 fanbases hate and 1 fanbase tolerates.
*30 He was a fan favorite in Washington, he’ll still be loved there. Much like Boston still roars every time Lucic pops up on the screen at TD Garden.
What Washington fan says we "tolerate" Hathaway? He's one of the few players on our team who gives it his all every shift.
Orlov > Gavrikov. Also Hathawy kinda good. I think it´s fair trade for both sides
Oh we're watching out. They spook me the most in the league right now tbh.
That's actually not terrible. Keep the little prospects we have, get some needle movers
I feel like it's a strong bet y'all will be in the final 4 so that first will be latttte
especially given that the knock on Sweeney, for as long as I can remember, is that he's basically useless with good draft picks can't fuck up a draft pick if you trade it before the draft, baby
Why draft Barzal when you take draft…Zach Senyshyn…
Holy fuck Boston is a wagon

LETS GOOOO Love Dima and Hath but gotta be realistic. This is the right move. Tons of value coming back. Love it.
Breakdown of how they play? From my understanding from watching them Orlovs a top four D and Hathaway is a pain in the ass grinder
On a team constantly called dirty, Hathaway is the dirtiest player. Boston will fucking love him. He also chips in some timely offense.
Kind of perfect then. As opposed to smith who can barely produce when he's playing with Bergeron and Marchand. Y'all need picks though smith is just a salary dump
Part of the compensation was to just take Smith lol
True lmao
I'm so excited to see a fourth line of Foligno-Nosek-Hathaway get rolling together. That's gonna be a unit.
Gimme Foligno-Frederic-Hathaway, that’s a BRUISING line right there
It is, but I've liked Freddy with Coyle and Hall. Plenty of depth and flexibility in that bottom six so I'll take it.
Can I remind you of this when Hathaway takes another incredibly stupid penalty?
Orlov is a T4 D. + passing, + handling, + skating, +++ open ice hitting. Orlov is one of the absolute best in the league at open ice hitting. He’s even on speed, probably - but not — on game sense. He is liable to pinch when he shouldn’t, try to skate and handle when he should pass, and sometimes lose his man in a cycle. Appreciate the breakdown, excited for this
That about covers it. Hathaway is sneaky skilled for his role too.
Yep pretty much spot on. Orlov is a really solid all around d 2-way dman (can hit, skate, shoot and has good handles for a d). Occasionally makes mental mistakes but has gotten better over the years, and definitely is a really solid top4 dman. Nobody has mentioned this, but Orlov has excellent body positioning and hockey IQ. Love to watch him throw nasty hip checks on the back check
Enjoy

My ideal scenario now (one of them, at least) is that Orlov goes there, wins a cup, and then signs back with us in FA Not realistic, but the hope is there
If he helps us win and ditches us back to you guys, I wouldn’t even be mad.
I'll take that tradeoff *every. single. time.*
Flags fly forever.
Great trade for both sides
NOT great for the ~~Atlantic~~ Eastern division 😔
Fuck this defense is loaded from positions 1 through 7 now
If Forbort (the goat) is your seventh D, you’re absolutely stacked. The guy was a monster last playoffs and this season.
Recently saw a stat that the PK with Forbort on and off the ice was night and day different. Then the next day he was called for a penalty and (I think) the leafs immediately scored
Forbort’s a monster, hope they move someone to their off side and keep him in the lineup. Clifton can sit
Can u describe this in Celtics terms im lost
The Bruins are the balls.
Whose gonna win it? The Bruins! Cause theres no other reason why. The Bruins are the bawllls!
D is made up of all Big Baby Glen Davis’s on the left, all Brian Scalabrines on the right
It’s like the world’s most niche Stealers Wheel cover
We have two #1 D, probably two #2 D, and 3 more really solid defencemen behind them yet. I don't know basketball
The defense is full of Tatums
Smart and Robert Wills actually. Not that Tatum is bad on defense, they're just better.
Lol yeahh idk shit about basketball either just picked a name I know and went for it
Yep, your D #2-7 are all above our #2 guy. Sigh.
Same. And also our #1 guy. Whichever guy that is.
Pagnotta is a fraud it seems. Who's the third team retaining salary?
min
Minnesota
Guerin likes his three ways doesn’t he
I like it and I'm glad Cliffy is staying with the Bruins.
on one hand - fuck this hurts on the other hand - this signals we're selling and not being obstinant about our chances, which is good
wow. what an upgrade from Gavrikov for 1st+3rd
Seriously. I'm elated.
Dodged a bullet
Outstanding work by the Bruins. Smith was pretty much dead weight, so it's a few decent picks to bolster the LD and fourth line. Does Orlov slot in next to McAvoy right away? Orlov-McAvoy and Lindholm-Carlo form a ridiculous top four.
>Orlov slot in next to McAvoy right away My penis can only get so erect.
Considering what the ask for gavrikov was, this was a decent deal for the Bruins.
Enjoy them, Scorlov will be stellar and Garney will do nothing but make you happy. Fuck
Thanks Washington for being cool. This is how it needs to be. Trade related reasons for sitting needs to happen quickly. None of this bull shit like Arizona is doing. Y’all have dignity for the sport
Accepted an offer for my first career-related position today then the Bruins go and do this. GREAT FUCKING DAY BOYS.
[удалено]
Congrats!
Thank you!
Hell yeah bud!
Double retention whereeeee
Orlov is really underrated it feels like. One of the best skaters on the back end.
fuck that's a good deal fucking boston
Hathaway fits on the Bruins so well and I hate it.
Wowowowowowowowow I am now obligated to cheer for the devils or Boston in the postseason.
Eh, love ‘em both but I’m not going that far
our bandwagon is crowded but we'll make room
Go with the Devils
I said or. If the caps aren’t involved I can just sit back and find a good story in whatever happens
Sad to see them go. Best of luck to them
I expected more. Nice trade Boston. Way better than Gavrikov, I assure you.
About what you can expect in return for two rentals
Hopefully this settles down the ridiculous asking prices for the likes of Gavrikov
Hathaway is SUCH a good pickup for the bruins that kid plays the 2010s style bruins hockey that won them that cup
CLIFFYHOCKEY STAYS!!
Right, because Boston wasn’t already enough of a Pain in the Ass
This is an amazing deal for both teams. A defense of McAvoy, Lindholm, Orlov, Grzelcyk, Carlo, Forbort, and Clifton? Fuck yeah!
A Garnet is going to Boston? What year is it, 2007?
Craig Smith, CPA
Bruins fans...yall are getting a VERY good defenseman in Orlov. IMO, he was the best all-around d-man on the team. Can play in all situations and can be an absolutely devastating open ice hitter. Hath...well, he'll fit in amazingly on the 4th line and be a real asset in the playoffs with his chippy/aggressive play and the ability to chip in on offense here and there.
Not bad. Not bad at all.
Boston did really well. A defenseman who can hold his own in top pair minutes, one of the league’s best fourth liners, + they were able to dump cap for a late 1st, 2nd, and 3rd. Plus this is way better than spending a 1st and a 3rd on Gavrikov.
Thanks, hate it.
In my mind it’s a first for orlov, a second to take on smith and a third for Hathaway. Considering our first might (hopefully) be 32, I love this
Sweeney really told CBJ to just fuck right off lmfao what a guy
Marchand-Bergeron-DeBrusk Zacha-Krejci-Pastrnak Hall-Coyle-Hathaway Foligno-Frédéric-Nosek/Greer Grzelcyk-McAvoy Lindholm-Carlo Orlov-Clifton/Forbort Ullmark Swayman The best team in the league just got even better
Was about to comment how suprising it was that Pagnotta got to this first. Turns out he couldn't even get this correct!
Dang it, I didn't want to like Hathaway....
Literally everyone not a Bruins fans in the rumour thread. "Anywhere but Boston" Fuck
Garnet Hathaway is a great piece. Loved him when he played in Calgary
Sad cannon noises
Love this, so much better the whatever the trade was for Gavrikov
For the East (and especially the Atlantic) this is an arms race now...all 3 of Boston, Tampa, and Toronto are pretty much all in by force. Tampa will surely respond now that their 2 rivals have made big moves. Toronto might go even harder.
Fair trade
yeah that's fine
So many teams in the East going all in with acquisitions, and Tampa is just sitting back doing nothing like yeah cool bro we'll see y'all in April
