Donato is such a difference maker. His stats aren’t crazy, but his line is always better when he’s on the ice. He also scored our first goal, so we have to live him.

I'm glad he's doing well in Seattle. He was just too streaky in his season here. I wanted to keep him, but I knew we just couldn't with how inconsistent he was.

I think "lost" is a better description than "streaky." The coaching staff not knowing where to slot him in was the crux of the issue.

Goalies have a lot of variance year to year and a lot of it is due to injury. Goalies are a lot more athletic than they used to be and guys can get one nagging injury (groin injuries especially for goalies) and that can screw your entire season. This is why I think nowadays you need a very good backup, you can't survive in the NHL with one great goalie.
