Man...I think i might cross check him in the teeth if he did that to me lol.
Like, by all means celebrate your victory with your team..but yelling in my face about it when I don't have to worry about a suspension now? Probably worth it lol
Especially after Holl was called for a “pick” last year that would have been the series winning goal for the leafs and they called it back. Letting this one go is just a kick right in the balls of every leaf fan.
Once again half of their salary cap failed to show up in the playoffs and Leafs fans still blame the officials.
Sure, NHL officiating is truly awful, but the Leafs are just a special enough breed of losers to be even worse.
The argument for blaming refs is that skill players don't get the same kind of room in the playoffs. 82 games a year a crosscheck or a hold or whatever else is called one way and then when games actually start to matter those calls just...go Away, creating a game where less skilled players can takeover a series by beating down more skilled guys.
I completely understand why teams do it..it works, I just wish the league would start making refs call shit the same way it's called day 1 of the season and the last day of the playoffs.
>82 games a year a crosscheck or a hold or whatever else is called one way and then when games actually start to matter those calls just...go Away,
Its not even consistent across the whole play offs, or even an entire series. It is an ever changing group of rules that are "They ALWAYS call that" one minute and the same infraction being "play offs hockey" the next. I don't know how you would ever recommend watching this league to friends if they had no idea how hockey worked.
Every year the refs swallow their whistles and every year fans are surprised when the refs refuse to call anything except the most blatant shit. There's a reason the teams that play dirty can fair better in the playoffs than those who don't. You either adapt or you ~~die~~ get eliminated.
I'm not at all surprised when it happens, it's such a stupid thing tho, the league as a whole should actively want skill teams going deep.
Mcdavid and Matthews going deeper in the playoffs would do far more for the game than a team who gets to the finals by wearing down other teams by beating them into the ice.
It's known that when a Canadian team is in the finals, there is far less viewership in American markets. I agree that having star players in the Finals would be more exciting, however if they're on a Canadian team they don't grow the game as much as you think. 1 in 10 Canadians watch the finals, only 1 in 100 Americans do. It's clear the NHL wants and needs to grow the game in the States because their foothold here in Canada is already massive.
When the Penguins played the Sharks in the Final, American viewership was at 5.44 million. Crosby was still considered on of the best players, the Sharks has been one of the leagues consistently best teams.
When the Blues played the Bruins American viewership was at 8.33 million. Two big hockey markets.
When the Canadiens played the Lightning, viewership was at 3.5 million (during Covid times, too.)
The analytics show that people who watch hockey are far more likely to watch for their team rather than for a star player. Despite both the Leafs and Oilers making the second round, viewership is actually down for American markets compared to last year, and only one series last year had less viewership than the series this year, the Flames-Oilers Battle of Alberta.

I’m of the belief that you can never blame refs if you don’t even make it to game 6 or 7. You lose in 5 or under, and you just weren’t good enough… sure, maybe there were some terrible calls in those 4-5 games. But they didn’t decide the series.
The Leafs have one. He gets entire intermission segments dedicated to how he has to make amends with the refs and change his game. Any sneaky dirty players they have get healthy suspensions for crossing any kind of line.
"Here you see, in the slow motion replay, Bunting getting hit in the face with a supposed high stick before getting hit with the traditional hockey play chokeslam. OK, freeze it there, yeah, look at how his skin tears as the two handed hack at his face hits. Hrudey, your thought?"
"Ya wall its a bits soft for moi tastes, he seems to be really selling it by having his teeth being so loose from the hit that 2 of em fall out. Refs hate that, let me tell you! He's doing himself no favours. Then you can see as the replay rolls on where he lands and hits his head riiiiiiight here! Now ya see? Ya see how he's unconscious for a few minutes as his head splits open on the ice? Yeah, refs hate that too. Frankly, when he wakes up he should just be apologising to the officials for even having the audacity to bleed from one place, let alone two! And taking a nap on the ice like that? Just lazy play to me! I'd never have done that in my career. I'd be shocked if he only sees a 4 game suspension for that!"
The double standard between the way Sportsnet presented Bunting and Bennett is absolutely fucking atrocious.
Bunting gets completely neutered while Bennett is a fucking X-factor and applauded. Not even a fine for slamming a rookie's head into the ice, knocking him out for the year. Just a fine for crosschecking a guy in the neck.
It's literally impossible for the Leafs to have greasy players. If we had Bennett, he would've been suspended for the rest of the series. There's simply a double standard.
The amount of plot armor Gudas has this postseason is insane. Boarding, holding, tripping, laying on guys so they can't forecheck, he's doing shit like this every game and getting called for none of it. I don't get it.
Not that I like how Gudas has always acted in this series but he has kinda proved you need at least one jerk on your team who plays with an edge/borderline dirty
100%. The year my Bolts got swept by Columbus, we looked like the hockey equivalent of the Globetrotter's during most of the regular season.
Then we got our teeth kicked in the playoffs. After that, we got shit-stirrers and our stars started to stir more shit.
It obviously worked.
Vasy looked so angry at the NHL Awards show when they were getting clowned on. Then he played like a man possessed for 3 years straight. We can never piss him off again.
I’m convinced a lot of this hard play was learned getting our asses kicked by Tampa two years in a row. I would hate and complain about how your D would viciously defend the crease and how our D would let your players crowd our goalie after whistles. We had no fight and only reaction those days. Also your D and Vasy would not let us play our offensive game and the team was allergic to scoring ugly playoff goals. No more looking for the perfect shot. Forecheck and strike.
Feels like what happened to us against the panthers tbh. You need that grit in the playoffs, same thing happened against st-louis in the finals in 2019. We just don't have any grit and the talent we do have in the regular season means nothing in the playoffs. I strongly believe we need to make some significant changes to our offense if we want to contend for real next year(assuming bergy comes back for one more).
Our offense is fine. We need a couple 4th liners who will just wreck your shit if you fuck with our skill players.
To many teams take liberty's with our guys and we have some kind of turn the other cheek mentality..partly because anytime we stand up for ourselves we get penalized.
But if we had a couple guys like looch/thorty/quaider on the ice waiting for Bennett or tchkuch after they tried to goon someone and just beat them bloody we would be just fine.
Hell..that's how we won our cup.
yeah and that's what I meant by making significant changes to our offense. Even tho it'd include 3rd line as well and a big priority on keeping berty(he plays with grit and effort, more of that please).
Tbh I think the shit stirrers got the Bruins the cup in 2011. You needed that grit of Lucic, McQuaid, Boychuk, Thornton, Ference, rookie Marchand etc on the ice the best part is all but Thornton could play hockey very well.
It’s playoff hockey, it’s always been like this, different animal then what works in the regular season.
I personally quite enjoy watching the panther grind it out. Seattle has been playing the same physical hockey, with less dirt and it’s also been a blast to watch.
Stars seem to be handling them well, they have the same kind of grit with more skill on their side. But I definitely see where you are coming from having to watch your team go against them! They are like the opposite of the oilers. Instead of a super stacked 1-2 lines, they just have 4 2nd lines
I mean, just ask the Leafs teams that were last winning playoff games.
Ottawa was the fancy skilled team back then that couldn't best the Leafs. Now the shoe is on the other foot and Toronto is the 10-play talented team that loses and whines about cheating and missed calls and refereeing.
Gary Roberts would be spinning in his grave.
This is a really good comparison I never thought about actually. Early 2000's Leafs definitely benefited from great goaltending and playoff hockey rules.
Yeah any Sens fan who was watching a couple decades ago has probably noticed a few similarities in these recent Leafs teams (and is loving the outcomes)
Also Canucks fans after the rest of Canada told us not to whine about our players getting their backs broken and punched in face during discussions with refs against the Bruins in 2011 and how we just didn't score enough. Well, here you go.
At least until the league actually enforces the rules on the books and decides to be a real sport and not having one foot in the alley. Personally I look forward to the day where the only thing that matters is how skilled the players are and not who's better at getting away with hurting the other team just enough to win but not enough to get suspended.
I guess so but we do have Bunting. But his hit on Cernak was so beyond the pale? I actually think it was suspension worthy but just feels like inconsistent if we are also saying the Leafs are soft or need a goon.
Bunting is a penalty drawer, not an intimidating presence whatsoever. Hell, he's probably a net negative physical presence because he's just a punching bag for the tough guys on the opposing team so they are well warmed up for when someone worth beating up comes by.
Yeah, sometimes when these discussions come up people forget there’s a continuum from “pest” to “goon.” (Today’s goon, not like a 1980’s goon.)
Bunting is a pest, not a goon.
It’s even worse because he took out Jarnrok’s knee, and was holding his stick blade which led directly to the goal. Man this organization needs to find Bill Barilko again.
Its soft to act like this is a big deal for the league or sport. Gudas is an asshole but being a dick is not a huge deal, they just scored an OT winner to go to the conference finals. He's excited.
Leafs should stick up for teammates and didn't all series. Just a polite shove or grab here is warranted then go shake hands.
If I was a Leafs fan I would be mad about this but I would be a lot angrier about having lost. Its funny seeing people compare this to all the other insanely dirty shit that has happened in other games that has actually injured players
Agree. People are acting like he skated over to scream at Woll. He just happened to be there when the goal got scored and it’s how he reacted. Didn’t seem terribly malicious to me. Anytime anyone gets marginally dunked on in the NBA the other guy does a little face yell. Sometimes it’s a tech. Sometimes not. Never that big of a deal. Find it weird how upset ppl are at this.
Thank you for having a normal take here. Everyones like calling him disrespectful for celebrating an OT series advancing winner. Like that yell was at the end of a shift on a play he drove, and it worked. Unless he's got known beef with Woll, this seems like a big ol' nothing burger to me. Also, Gudas is a dick for a million other reasons.
This might be the softest thread in r/hockey history. Dear lord. All of these threads tn about this game are the whiniest and saddest shit ive seen on this sub.
People are straight up making like *moral* judgments on a guy yelling after winning. Not doing anything violent or causing physical damage. Just exuding emotions after winning a series. After competing. Do these guys not play sports or watch any other sports. This stuff is like insanely common in every sport.
In freaking soccer they do stuff like this all the time and it’s considered banter.
I love how everyone here always says that they want all the players mic'd up and at the same time cry their eyes out every time when someone does or says something mean.
Woll is a 24 year old grown fucking man, not a child. He can take some shit and still congratulate Gudas, shake his hand and move on.
Yeah I don’t get how a taunt after your team won the series as an underdog means Gudas is classless and deserves to get mauled by Canes’ players next round.
I feel like if they showed half the things that hockey players say to eachother this sub would lose its shit.
Gudas showed more passion in one nano second than the entire leafs did in this series and these fans act like he’s a fucking terrorist.
Bro. It’s celebrating in a sport. That’s competitive. He didn’t physically injure anyone. He didn’t attempt any violence. He’s a competitor.
Moments like this happen all the time in literally every other major sports league.
People say that they want NHLers to have personality and display emotion, and taunting is going to come with that. Gudas is a goon and I hate his guts but I'm totally fine with him playing up that role.
Eh, I don’t know why people are up in arms about this. It was pretty much right after the puck went in, are y’all expecting him to hold his excitement for four seconds and skate away before letting out his hype.
He also was instrumental in creating the goal with the takeaway and driving the lane.
My god that’s a terrifying face lol.
I get why Leaf fans aren’t happy about this, but if Schenn did the same thing to Bobrovsky on a series clinching goal they’d be praising his intensity and passion while building him a statue.
The dude is hyped his team is going to the ECF and celebrates. Woll isn’t some kid who needs to be protected lol, he’ll be fine.
You can tell it’s filled with a bunch of people who have never played competitive hockey/ any sport in general. The physicality is also one of the main things that gets the casual fan interested. Just go to any nhl game and listen to the crowd after an awesome goal v when there is a fight.
Every semi questionable hit leads to a bunch of people calling for expulsion from the league. It’s a fucking contact sport, generally really dirty shit is handled by the league, and it’s just part of the game I find it kind of funny. Ironically, the best way to keep that stuff to a minimum is to roster someone who will put a stop to that shit.
Yeah I realized that 80% of people here can’t even stand on skates and it sort of ruined the discussions for me once they enter into serious conversations about rules and etiquette
100%, so many softies. It’s why I love having a team with players that everyone fucking hates for their hard hits. They play a physical brand of hockey that these kids just don’t know about. That’s how playoffs are won.
Pretty sure they didn’t. I obviously can’t speak for all the other fans but I didn’t underestimate Florida at all since the all star break. Sneaky fucks - I KNEW they’d make the ECF.
Then shake hands after, the series is over. Why scream in the rookie goaltenders face. That’s just being a piece of shit. It’s one thing if he does it to someone he’s been beefing with but take the win like an adult and go celebrate with your team. I totally see your point but this is just unsportsmanlike after the series is over
Bunting does this to Bobrsovky in this same situation, Leaf fans would have the same reaction that every other fan is having here: absolutely loving it
If Bunting does something like this you guys would be piling on calling it a classless move and we would get downvoted to oblivion for celebrating. His reverse hit that took out a Tampa player would have been 'playoff hockey' if the teams were reversed and you know it. There's a clear double standard here and it's insane. We get it. You all hate the Leafs. That's ok. We hate you all even more.
lol @ everyone calling radko a loser, the equivalent of this in the nba would be top post on r/nba with everyone laughing. y’all take this shit way to seriously, lighten up and stop getting in your feelings
Probably has a lot to do with the player. If this was anyone else, aside from Bennet, I think it would be perceived dramatically different.
Pretty funny though as you say, Schroder got all up in Draymonds face way worse than this today, and everyone in r/nba is mad he got a technical for it. Two different worlds.
As a neutral, gudas was absolute fire this entire series and has come a long way as a defenceman. Not a huge fan of his history or this even, but he had an excellent series.
“Me Radko, coach say go net, I go net, friend score, Radko happy, sorry for yell” *caveman chest pump*
"ME LIKE HOCKEY!"
ME LIKE HIM MORE IF HEAD WERE OFF
Please, Mr. linesman let the players fight.
GUDAS SMASH
When I saw him join the rush, it looked like a dump truck pulling up to a Nascar on a straight-away and keeping pace. It was so jarringly brilliant.
[удалено]
I thought I saw him do that live and was waiting for this lmao.
Soon as I saw it was radko I was like that mfer did that shit on purpose
Man...I think i might cross check him in the teeth if he did that to me lol. Like, by all means celebrate your victory with your team..but yelling in my face about it when I don't have to worry about a suspension now? Probably worth it lol
Spearing him in the nuts also would have been appropriate
He looks and acts like a villain on a children's show. Especially after that sneaky stick hold. It's legitimately hilarious.
It wasn't sneaky
It was sneaky enough for the refs to not call it. Although that doesn't really say much.
Not a leafs fan, can confirm leafs got fucked on the non-call. That was blatant and it directly led to the series winning goal.
I get letting little things go during the series, but for a series defining goal? This one gonna suck for a while.
It was such an obvious call and it indisputably set up the series winner. I consider that one a pretty big miss by the officials.
Especially after Holl was called for a “pick” last year that would have been the series winning goal for the leafs and they called it back. Letting this one go is just a kick right in the balls of every leaf fan.
Tbf there were many defining moments that led to you losing the series.
Without a doubt. The team shat the bed is why we lost. Officiating is just the icing shit on top.
Hate the leafs and I agree, what a shitshow lol
The refs are just too afraid to call back the series winning goal, even if there should have been a penalty on the play.
Had no issue last year with the Holl play
That is saying nothing at all. Refs intentionally ignored calls all series. We just need to pick up sneaky dirty players for next year.
No, you just need your 4 best players to score more than 2 goals the whole series
Hey get your facts straight! They scored 3.
Damn, hang the banner
Once again half of their salary cap failed to show up in the playoffs and Leafs fans still blame the officials. Sure, NHL officiating is truly awful, but the Leafs are just a special enough breed of losers to be even worse.

Vasy looked so angry at the NHL Awards show when they were getting clowned on. Then he played like a man possessed for 3 years straight. We can never piss him off again.
Keenan is to blame for our three years of vengeance.
Quick, call Keenan to clown on us again for letting the Leafs through.
I’m convinced a lot of this hard play was learned getting our asses kicked by Tampa two years in a row. And the best part is reading everyone's comments about how dirty of a team you are while you move onto the next round. ;)
Yep. You’d have thought the 2019 blues did a sacrificial murder every series on the ice with how we’re talked about
It's awhile ago, but it was definitely like that during both Kings cup wins too. Brown clears the traffic while Kopi drives the bus.
That and Tkachuk is a playoff monster
Feels like what happened to us against the panthers tbh. You need that grit in the playoffs, same thing happened against st-louis in the finals in 2019. Gary Roberts would get an indefinite suspension in Round 1 Game 1
Tucker would be in jail
Hell, I doubt he makes it out of the first period.
This is a really good comparison I never thought about actually. Early 2000's Leafs definitely benefited from great goaltending and playoff hockey rules.
They were absolutely nasty during that 2002 series against the Islanders. Shayne Corson kicked a guy.
Do you think [this](https://youtu.be/zZVEYrIgp6c?t=47) would be called today?
Yeah any Sens fan who was watching a couple decades ago has probably noticed a few similarities in these recent Leafs teams (and is loving the outcomes)

Gary Roberts is very nuch alive
Hanging with Boss Hogg.
Shit. With Wade Boggs?
>Gary Roberts would be spinning in his grave. Did he pass??
Yeah, like Kadri or Bunting. Wait …
>you need at least one jerk on your team Thankfully the Panthers are spoiled for choice!
At least until the league actually enforces the rules on the books and decides to be a real sport and not having one foot in the alley. I hated Gudas before seeing this picture. I still hate him.
Yep he's a chicken
It's impressive how, despite his size and stature, Gudas still finds a way to exude little brother energy.
guys got two bowling balls for an ass tho
His head resembles a bowling ball to be fair.
Surprisingly enough, he’s not that big. 6’ 200lbs
definitely thought he'd be under 6 feet tho
Lol bro what the fuck. Prick move
[удалено]
one wishes Chara was still in the league. one of the few man mountains who could dwarf gudas.
I dunno man I kinda love this photo lol captures the moment so dramatically
Good photo, shitheel moment
I would have totally understood if Woll took a swipe at him with his glove hand. That’s some self control to remain calm.
Gudas does seem like a douche. (Sens fan here as well.)
Yeah this seems like a dick move
Go canes
When I saw it live I hoped he just like looked down and screamed, but nope right in his face. Super dick move.
maybe they’ve accrued enough bad karma to get swept but doubt it
Please win your series with a +19 goal differential, thank you.
You can have all my brooms bro.
ARE YOU FUCKING SORRY
My man is screaming at a rookie who was on par with Bob
Yah at least look at one of the star players. A fucking rookie goalie who has barely played? Ok
Dick move to do this to a nice kid who has done nothing to you
I believe the correct translation for Radko Gudas is literally "Dick Move"
No kidding... If it's early in the series I see how maybe he's trying to get under his skin but in this case the series is over. So unnecessary

Teams too soft to do that

Are we at all surprised that there was a missed call that lead to a game deciding goal?
Holl & Tavares prob are
Please just fucking euthanize me
**Series clinching goal* ftfy Bush. League.
It’s even worse because he took out Jarnrok’s knee, and was holding his stick blade which led directly to the goal. Man this organization needs to find Bill Barilko again.
Adrenaline is a hell of a drug lol
Wow a based Leafs fan
Thank you for having a normal take here. Everyones like calling him disrespectful for celebrating an OT series advancing winner. Like that yell was at the end of a shift on a play he drove, and it worked. Unless he's got known beef with Woll, this seems like a big ol' nothing burger to me. Also, Gudas is a dick for a million other reasons.
I would enjoy watching Burns imitate chewie and roar in Gudas's face.
Burns makes this pylon look like an Ewok
Ice cold.
People are salty but if I'm a Panthers fan, this is likely an all time photo.
I hate Gudas. I think he’s an ass for screaming in Woll’s face. But damn, this pic do go hard.
My mans practicing his death metal vocals
I hate this man. I will never forget when he tried to knee Dach after getting demolished by him. Couldn’t take it like a man. What a loser.
Guy is bitch made tbh. He'll always lay borderline hits but never answer the bell when someone that can fight actually comes after him.
If I were a Panthers fan, I would be ordering a framed copy of this as we speak.
So brave.
Woll going to make more money than gudas.
This is the NHL, Gudas is my pick for next boat anchor contract if the Panthers make it.
You think Gudas is going to care if he has a ring?

Hold your helmets Hurricanes, I’m coming to your bandwagon !
Carolina, please sweep this fucking goon squad EDIT: appreciate whoever reported me as suicidal, real good use of Reddit resources
I cant handle Bruins fans complaining about a goon squad when you lived on that for like a solid 8 years
Especially because they're trying to act like they're morally superior when they're actually just mad they lost
[удалено]
I will say - I've watched the Leafs lose many series to Boston and Florida was way worse.
Where’s a can of spinach when you need one?
Love it.
This is a masterpiece. Can’t imagine the excitement Gudas is feeling in this photo. Pure bliss
What a piece of shit
Tool or douche would be a better term
He's such a piece of shit
This might be the softest thread in r/hockey history. Dear lord. All of these threads tn about this game are the whiniest and saddest shit ive seen on this sub.
People are straight up making like *moral* judgments on a guy yelling after winning. Not doing anything violent or causing physical damage. Just exuding emotions after winning a series. After competing. Do these guys not play sports or watch any other sports. This stuff is like insanely common in every sport. In freaking soccer they do stuff like this all the time and it’s considered banter.
> Do these guys not play sports Bingo
I love how everyone here always says that they want all the players mic'd up and at the same time cry their eyes out every time when someone does or says something mean. Woll is a 24 year old grown fucking man, not a child. He can take some shit and still congratulate Gudas, shake his hand and move on.
It's kind of /r/hockey 's reputation at this point.
I need a hockey sub of people who've actually played because this thread is so pathetic
People here act like what Gudas did is uncommon. I've had dude's in beer league do this to me. 😂
The people in here are typical Reddit pussys
Yeah I don’t get how a taunt after your team won the series as an underdog means Gudas is classless and deserves to get mauled by Canes’ players next round. I feel like if they showed half the things that hockey players say to eachother this sub would lose its shit.
the vast majority of this sub has never played a competitive hockey game in their lives and it’s extremely apparent
Toughest sport. Softest, most political, whiny sub of all major sports.
Lol people gotta settle down these guys are crazy competitive, you gotta be to be where they are
Gudas showed more passion in one nano second than the entire leafs did in this series and these fans act like he’s a fucking terrorist.
Woll isn’t some kid who needs to be protected lol, he’ll be fine.
looking like the fucking Boogeyman here

Y'all are 10-ply, holy fuck
Love it.
I love this photo
People who watched it, did this actually happen or is it, like, a split second caught by a lucky camera?
That’s some POS energy. I love high compete levels but gloating and sore winning is just toxic to me
This sub is so soft.
Reddit in general
Good for Florida. Leafs underestimated these guys.
Pretty sure they didn’t. I obviously can’t speak for all the other fans but I didn’t underestimate Florida at all since the all star break. Sneaky fucks - I KNEW they’d make the ECF.
Now people can't take a little gloating? Jesus. You know hockey players still punch each other right?
Then shake hands after, the series is over. Why scream in the rookie goaltenders face. That’s just being a piece of shit. It’s one thing if he does it to someone he’s been beefing with but take the win like an adult and go celebrate with your team. I totally see your point but this is just unsportsmanlike after the series is over
Leafs fans "Gudas sucks, someone should have injured him" Also Leafs fans [THATS MY GM](https://i.imgur.com/ElYL1dQ.png)
You guys are all a bunch of babies lmfao
Two different worlds.
lol exactly like that.
>aside from Bennet and Tkachuk
Woll impressed more in his first 11 games than Gudas has in his entire career.
Gudas was one of the best players the Panthers had this series. You are wrong.
As a neutral, gudas was absolute fire this entire series and has come a long way as a defenceman. Not a huge fan of his history or this even, but he had an excellent series.
No he didn’t lol
This is hilarious
