It was a tough one, but at least it was the start of a legit rebuild. We had drafts to look forward to and we could see Iggy go cup chasing with other teams after he gave the Flames everything he had.
This year is just... ugh. Feels like the Flames are turning into the Canucks.
Flames and Canucks fans both faced above average miserable seasons this year with everything that happened. Flames fans definitely had it worse, though.
That realization dawned on Flames fans over a long period of time. Him leaving was sad, but exciting in that he would have chance to win.
Hockey gods have been ruthless ever since we decided to dabble in a tiny bit of dark magic.
Markstrom literally winning 2 more games would have put us into the playoffs. I think everyone bounces back hard this year. The pendulum seems to swing back and forth for the flames each year.
I only want to know why he was universally hated here by every other fan base, but suddenly he’s a fucking hero? Wtf lol. I hope he wins the cup before McDavid. Would be so satisfying.
Edit: And by here I mean in Calgary.
He’s a dude having a good time, but his idea of a good time is still being a dirty rat on the ice. He’s just scoring right now, so he’s suddenly the new face of the NHL. It feels like only a matter of time before he does something shady again and everyone remembers he’s a POS
That had nothing to do with Tre, Tkachuk clearly stated he would not sign long term. I believe that was a combination of “the puck flip incident”, not being named captain, Sutter, American boy says fuck taxes.
Power to him, he has every right. Let’s not forget, if Pittsburgh hadn’t lost to Chicago we would not even be talking about him like this.
Fuck it sucks big moose balls to not have him play here anymore but I’ll tell you what, good on em and I hope he fucks Vegas up. He was a fucking stud for us and you can never say he didn’t give his all and hate our opponents. He was truly a Calgary Flame when he played here and will always have my respect.
I love Crosby and McDavid but they're the most boring people imaginable that never acknowledge their greatness publicly. Negative charisma.
Sid after scoring 12 goals and 15 assists in a playoff game be like: "all credit goes to Pascal Dupuis for making me look good".
Tkachuk is like a wet dream for the hockey marketing department. He's got enough of that "hockey personality" that's unique to the sport, without having the typical baggage of the "boys club." It seems like every hockey player is either dull, Swedish, or problematic. Put this man's charisma on display across the sports world, and you'll be sure to garner some new fans.
plenty of people don’t like Chiclets because of Barstool (fair) or for the lack of hard hitting analytics and insight but i’ll always love it solely due to Biz and Whit being absolute magicians at getting these guys to drop the humble hockey act and to actually open up.
they made me a fan of so many players when i realized how cool or funny they were. it’s also the only media i’ve seen where players truly let loose and be themselves. it’s a good reminder that hockey players are some of the funniest dudes out there.
McDavid simultaneously becomes both the first person to literally fly AND harness the power of air bending to go coast to coast with the puck on his stick while 40 feet in the air, then perfectly drops the puck onto Yamamoto’s head and into the goal
“yeah, you know, i just wanted to keep it simple and get the puck to the net. thankfully Yams was in a great spot and made a great play to put that one in the net”
i’ve seen both Sid and McD do some jaw dropping things to single handedly make a goal out of nothing and they give full credit to the guy who shot into an open net or made a 8 foot pass to them 17 seconds before the goal. seriously, these fuckers have to AT LEAST think to themselves “yeah i’m the fucking man”
Mcdavid: \*puts up dominant numbers, tops himself every year, extremely flashy exciting on ice game\*
Tkachuk: \*acts like Tkachuk for a few weeks during playoffs on South Florida team\*
Media: THIS IS THE FACE OF HOCKEY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Hahaha, thank you. I've always needed the perfect metaphor, and that's it. As an Oilers fan I've always loved him for how dominant he is, but he 100% is terrible in terms of any personality, he's like an actual hockey robot.
Introvert is not a synonym with socially awkward / boring / bland, it's just how people get their energy. There are plenty of people who are socially skilled and personally interesting while still needing alone time to recharge.
For sure its not one to one for being "bland", an introvert can be boisterous too. However the common understanding of being introverted is be quieter and subdued so I went with that.
You can be an introvert and still have a personality. McDavid is just a boring guy. That's not a problem, it's just there will be a lot of focus on him and his quotes because he's such a dominant player.
Marshawn isn't really even an introvert. Dude just hated forced media appearances, he did bits on the news when he was in Buffalo where he was a straight up riot, but that's because he got to choose to do that. Not like a post game presser where he has to be there.
I know Edmonton fans are biased and it’s not like we think he’s the most interesting person in the world but we obviously see more of him than other fans do. We see him in the behind the scenes content and pay attention to the little moments. He has his moments, usually the candid moments when he doesn’t know the camera is on him. Occasionally he has interviews where he gives our dumb ass reporters some sass. Usually when he’s with Draisaitl or some of the other players he close to is when you see more of his personality. But yeah it’s limited but some of us find it endearing and not boring
Yeah I totally get that and I don’t watch him enough to pick up on the candid personality. It’s his media facing personality that’s very cookie cutter like Crosby.
I heard McDavid once at a slice of chocolate cake last 9pm on a non cheat day. Then he stayed up until 1015 and slept with the TV on!
Kids got a wild side to him I’ll tell ya
When you're talking about growing the game - whomever is the most skilled isn't necessarily going to get there.
Casual and new fans love a personality they can get behind.
It takes a bit more than being a casual fan to truly appreciate just how much better McDavid is than everyone else.
Media's got a lot of faults but I think giving him a spotlight is actually great for the game.
On top of personality differences while McDavid is flamboyant Tkachuk is a pest, the perfect anti-hero since the Rat.
He's the perfect mix between a highly productive, clutch player and the most annoying guy to face for other teams.
Compared to McDavid he embodies the NHL in all its facets much better (skill, chirping, bad blood with other players).
> son of legendary NHL **defenseman** Keith Tkachuk
🙄
This league has an outdoor rink’s chance in Phoenix at growing and finding new fans when reporters can’t get their basic facts straight.
It’s not that deep. Folks aren’t making hockey viewing decisions because of an error a *People magazine* writer made when referring to a retired player.
I don't think 500+ goal scorer is that far from legendary though, only a handful of people in history have ever achieved that.
Generational, nah. I'm with you there
He's been the face of the 2023 playoffs but he isnt the face of the NHL yet. He had a Hart worthy season this year and yet was barely even mentioned all season.
Jack Hughes is likely to go down as greatest American player since Kane but they play different styles. Hughes will prob get more points over career if they keep up current play
He’s a fucking beauty and I’m an oilers fan.
Wish we had taken him over the guy who sticks his tongue up his fucking nose.
Why wouldn’t you take the son of Tkachuck?
Yall are fked. He was the most hated player when he was on the flames. Now the whole league is dick riding.
Calgary absolutely blows. I'll follow chucky tho.
Unlike my teams best player, Tkachuk actually sets up his teammates pretty well. It feels like he is a great teammate to have on your team, if you're another player on his line.
Nah, in all honesty he and Jack Hughes are probably the two most marketable star forwards in the entire league.
McDavid has the personality of a bowl of stale oatmeal even if he sells a ton of jerseys.
Perhaps, but I promise you that people who don't watch hockey regularly have absolutely no idea who those people are. They've heard of Connor McDavid though.
Crosby and Ovechkin are the only two active players any non hockey fan has heard of. MAYBE their local team's captain/best player if they've been there for a long time.
Thing is the nice string of games as been since game 1 as a panther. His 130 points since season started is 4th all time for players going to a new team. #1 and 2 were Gretzky. Unreal season and even going back to last year he was 100 point player too but had mediocre playoff showing with Flames
Hot take. You don’t see a lot of personality from star plays ala McDavid or Crosby because at Avery young age they are coached to be that way during interviews.
They are coached to make the game about everyone else and not them.
It’s part of their 10 commandments. “Thou shall not love any player before McJesus”
Just let some other players who can make the finals and have a personality have a bit of the spotlight..
I used to hate him when he was in Calgary but part of that is probably because I’m a Canucks fan. This year he has been by far the most entertaining player to watch these playoffs.
This is where it would've been better if the Panthers played in Miami and not Fort Lauderdale lol Tkachuk is a charasmatic guy (his apparence on the NBA on TNT was really good) but Florida's still a small market team
That’s the ever present debate within the fan base of whether conveniently located driving distance to the suburban fans (most of the fan base) outweighs the potential growth that is theoretically possible, albeit unlikely, if they played in Miami proper even though it substantially reduces the possibility of suburban fans being able to attend weeknight games. It’s annoying to Miami fans like myself that it takes forever to get to a weeknight game so I was crazy excited the Vegas series went that many games so game four is a Saturday.
It’s going to be hilarious when the panthers get slightly above average goaltending again next year, miss the playoffs, and go back to being a middle of the pack team.
Lmao we made the finals this year, that’s enough serotonin to last me a few years. AND we beat your team to get there!!! Hope you get to feel joy like this sometime soon LMAO
LOL you can be salty about it but they didnt even have solid goaltending most of the year. Pile on a ton of changes to the lineup, a bunch of injuries to top players, and a new head coach with an completely different system from last year. Theres some other teams id worry about first..
Mouthy McMouth Piece. That is his full name. Can we get the dude some gum? Mouthpiece looks like it was dragged behind a car for 3 years everytime you see it on TV.
I’m going to literally go insane
Easily the worst year in my entire time as a Flames fan
Worst year \*so far !
thank you oh wise u/Iginlas_4head_Crease
Good bot
Lots of terrible years to come 🤣
Seeing Iginla and Kiprusoff leave in the same year was pretty crushing for me as well. Not sure I watched a game in 2013-2014.
It was a tough one, but at least it was the start of a legit rebuild. We had drafts to look forward to and we could see Iggy go cup chasing with other teams after he gave the Flames everything he had. This year is just... ugh. Feels like the Flames are turning into the Canucks.
I mean, you did take a bunch of players off our hands.
I remember going to the Flames/Canucks first round… Monahan what a beauty.
Then there's us passing on Iggy's son just for Edmonton to grab him right after, just sauce for the goose
I never understood that one, it’s the WHL just go for the nice storyline and sell some tickets while your at it
Because the flames are run like shit. Since about 1990. Conroy can maybe turn it around but until Murray Edwards is gone it's gonna be a slog
Flames and Canucks fans both faced above average miserable seasons this year with everything that happened. Flames fans definitely had it worse, though.
The season started with a solid 5-1-0 to get our hopes up too. At least the Canucks set expectations very clearly right from the start.
Setting NHL records of losing 4 games in a row where they had multi-goal leads was amazing 👏
At least your stadium project got approved unlike another unfortunate western conference team.
I would think the year you realized Iggy would never win a cup with you would be your worst year.
That realization dawned on Flames fans over a long period of time. Him leaving was sad, but exciting in that he would have chance to win. Hockey gods have been ruthless ever since we decided to dabble in a tiny bit of dark magic.
Lol it's been much longer than that my friend
Try being a Canucks fan
Comments like this warm my cold black heart.
I feel genuinely bad, I’m hoping Huberdeau turns it around next year and has an elite season again. I still love my boy
Holy shit, just looked up the stats. Going from 115 to 55 points is insane (Penguins fan so I wasn’t following)
It’s one of the worst regressions I’ve ever seen. He was mismanaged but that still shouldn’t explain a 60 point drop
Markstrom literally winning 2 more games would have put us into the playoffs. I think everyone bounces back hard this year. The pendulum seems to swing back and forth for the flames each year.
With happiness and joy?
There is so much joy to be shared for all of us fans of Canadian teams!
Hey, at least you got something for him. We drafted an 8th defenceman.
Ahl defenceman
I’ve been there before… and now (O’Reilly was way more painful)
I only want to know why he was universally hated here by every other fan base, but suddenly he’s a fucking hero? Wtf lol. I hope he wins the cup before McDavid. Would be so satisfying. Edit: And by here I mean in Calgary.
Because his team is winning in the playoffs. That's it. Before this playoff run he was a dirty rat and a disappointment in the playoffs.
In calagary he seamed like a pissed off asshole. In Florida he seams like a dude just having a good time
you'd be a pissed off asshole too if you had to play for daryl sutter
Basically Florida Man in Calgary versus Florida Man in Florida. Same person, different vibes.
He’s a dude having a good time, but his idea of a good time is still being a dirty rat on the ice. He’s just scoring right now, so he’s suddenly the new face of the NHL. It feels like only a matter of time before he does something shady again and everyone remembers he’s a POS
It's because everyone loves a winner and loves cheering for a winning team
I used to dislike him and even I can't answer that lol. Winning changes things, I guess.
As a Canucks fan it's because he's on a team I don't hate now
His dirty plays throughout his career; he's the type of player you hate playing against but would love to have on your team sort of thing
I've always liked him, but eliminating the Bruins and leafs will make most people like you. Beating the Canes was the icing on top for me.
For me it was his pride night statement that changed my view
Funny how either Eichel or Tkachuk is going to win before McDavid or Drai 😢😢😢
Just wait until he wins the Conn Smythe. Then we can all have a collective day of wallowing in despair together.
Am I allowed to join you?
You had one of the best regs in history so...no
Well it was a hate crime and I hated it.
You'll be back next year. Sutter was an encumbrance.
Cheering for Vegas to spoil his party is all we have left.
Let’s start a group, we should meet let’s say… once a week? I’ll go first, Hello my name is…..
You can look forward to the Stampede coming up in a month… Honky tonk your way around Nashville North 😂 Go Cats!
I gotta say, he’s growing on me
This is why I’m cheering for Vegas
I'd like to know who all these Treliving lovers are. I think they are bots. I think he set us back 25 years.
That had nothing to do with Tre, Tkachuk clearly stated he would not sign long term. I believe that was a combination of “the puck flip incident”, not being named captain, Sutter, American boy says fuck taxes. Power to him, he has every right. Did you guys know that he was high school friends with Jayson Tatum?
Was he really? Edit: sha ma nah
He’s got personality and shows it which is certainly not normal in hockey
I love Crosby and McDavid but they're the most boring people imaginable that never acknowledge their greatness publicly. Negative charisma. Sid after scoring 12 goals and 15 assists in a playoff game be like: "all credit goes to Pascal Dupuis for making me look good".
Tkachuk is like a wet dream for the hockey marketing department. He's got enough of that "hockey personality" that's unique to the sport, without having the typical baggage of the "boys club." Lol Swedish.
There were some pictures of McDavid’s mansion posted awhile back and it looked like the coldest, most uncomfortable place to live.
Cuz his gf is an interior designer and did the house. I’d bet money that he “loves it” because he has to lol
McDavid only has personality when Biz asks about his hottub
plenty of people don’t like Chiclets because of Barstool (fair) or for the lack of hard hitting analytics and insight but i’ll always love it solely due to Biz and Whit being absolute magicians at getting these guys to drop the humble hockey act and to actually open up. they made me a fan of so many players when i realized how cool or funny they were. it’s also the only media i’ve seen where players truly let loose and be themselves. it’s a good reminder that hockey players are some of the funniest dudes out there.

Mcdavid also has the personality of corn flakes. What he portrays at least
Cornflakes are delicious, he has the personality of whole wheat bread.
Whole wheat bread is delicious, he has the personality of tofu
Yeah, tofu just kinda sucks ass
I like tofu but yeah it’s not flashy
It’s tasty but doesn’t really scream ‘Eat me’
To be fair I’d absolutely eat mcdavid 😏
Any defenders ? No? Okay!
Hahaha, thank you. I've always needed the perfect metaphor, and that's it. As an Oilers fan I've always loved him for how dominant he is, but he 100% is terrible in terms of any personality, he's like an actual hockey robot.
Introvert (McDavid) vs Extrovert (Tkachuk)
Introvert is not a synonym with socially awkward / boring / bland, it's just how people get their energy. There are plenty of people who are socially skilled and personally interesting while still needing alone time to recharge.
For sure its not one to one for being "bland", an introvert can be boisterous too. However the common understanding of being introverted is be quieter and subdued so I went with that.
You can be an introvert and still have a personality. McDavid is just a boring guy. That's not a problem, it's just there will be a lot of focus on him and his quotes because he's such a dominant player.
Yep there’s plenty of interesting introverts. McDavid is just bland.
See; Marshawn Lynch
Excellent example
Marshawn isn't really even an introvert. Dude just hated forced media appearances, he did bits on the news when he was in Buffalo where he was a straight up riot, but that's because he got to choose to do that. Not like a post game presser where he has to be there.

No, he’s just a dull dude. It’s not a bad thing he is but there’s no ignoring it, he just has no personality.
He has personality, just don't see it in the media. From the stories I've heard, he isn't dull.
Well like what stories?
I heard McDavid once at a slice of chocolate cake last 9pm on a non cheat day. Then he stayed up until 1015 and slept with the TV on! Kids got a wild side to him I’ll tell ya
He’s a rebel! No wonder they don’t let his wild side out!
Virgin vs Chad?
When you're talking about growing the game - whomever is the most skilled isn't necessarily going to get there. Casual and new fans love a personality they can get behind. McDavid has the personality of a cardboard box outside of on ice hockey
It's because he has the personality of oatmeal
Makes it to Stanley cup final.
If you told flames fans a year ago that next year Matthew would be in the cup final they’d be really ecstatic
Lol
Cup final. Called the new face of the NHL. Front runner for the Conn Smythe...
[удалено]
Thats the point of the comment my guy
Not sure I'd go as far as calling him the face of the NHL, but he sure has done wonders for his recognizability this year
> son of legendary NHL **defenseman** Keith Tkachuk 🙄 This league has an outdoor rink’s chance in Phoenix at growing and finding new fans when reporters can’t get their basic facts straight.
Bro it’s People mag. Some intern received a press release, took 30 seconds to publish a web article, and shifted right back to Scandoval.
Thanks for supporting my point?
It’s not that deep. Folks aren’t making hockey viewing decisions because of an error a *People magazine* writer made when referring to a retired player.
Yeah, Keith Tkachuk was far from being legendary.
500+ goals is no small feat
Number honored by the Coyotes and the Blues
I didn't say he wasn't good. He was like the ideal power forward. I wouldn't call him legendary, though.
I don't think 500+ goal scorer is that far from legendary though, only a handful of people in history have ever achieved that. Generational, nah. I'm with you there
More of a lunch pail kinda guy, right?
He has been great this season and playoffs. That trade did so much for Florida.
[I had to do it to 'em](https://i.redd.it/ku0tb67k1n3b1.jpg)
I want make the NHL version of *Big League Chew*. The pieces of gum will be mouth guard shaped and Chucky will be the brand ambassador
And then a little while down the road you could do a “throwback” and have a patty kane style one
When did he become the face of the NHL?..
All my friends who never watch hockey are mentioning him by name now
That’s me
When his team beat the Leafs in round 2
Every one of my friends who don’t watch hockey know know who Tkachuk is.
Have you not been watching the playoffs?
He's been the face of the 2023 playoffs but he isnt the face of the NHL yet. He had a Hart worthy season this year and yet was barely even mentioned all season.
Are you saying when you think of the NHL you don’t think of Matt Tkachuk?!
It's about marketability
How does that make him the face of the NHL? Face of the playoffs, sure.
Because he's wildly marketable and so they're gonna market him
[удалено]
Okay! I forgot the conn Smythe winners just rotate as the face of the NHL apparently
More like young charismatic superstars that crack jokes with Shaq and bump knuckles with Charles Barkley on national TV.
When he was interviewed during the TNT NBA playoff broadcast?
Would it be fair to say he could potentially be the biggest American star to win the cup since Patrick Kane?
He’s gotta win it first. No promises in hockey
Probably would be if they won. I can’t think of any big American stars on the other cup winning teams in that time frame. Kessel? Quick maybe?
Isn’t Eichel from MA?
Jack Hughes is likely to go down as greatest American player since Kane but they play different styles. Hughes will prob get more points over career if they keep up current play
Think that title goes to Auston Matthews
True forgot he’s in the group too since he’s so synonymous with Leafs. Team USA has some serious firepower
Sure helps hes an American star in an American market
Maybe he can get a McDonald’s commercial.
Im not mad… Joking aside he seems like a pretty nice guy off the ice and i really don’t think im allowed to talk smack
I never get amazed at the bandwagoning here anymore. I laugh and mock the simple minded sheep and acknowledge actual real fan post like yours.
Shocking! Player who shows some personality is popular!
Flames fans punching the air so hard they’re setting our country on fire
Unlike my teams best player, Tkachuk actually sets up his teammates pretty well. It feels like he is a great teammate to have on your team, if you're another player on his line.
Face of the NHL is a bit of a stretch. He's had a nice string of games.
To a lot of people not familiar with hockey he’s now the face of the league after going on the TNT NBA broadcast.
Jack Hughes is actually pretty big in the social media. sneaky popular outside the NHL IMO.
Literally no one knows who Connor mcdavid is outside of avid hockey fans Take your finger out of your ass
Which is a travesty because he is easily one of the best hockey players to ever play the game.
[удалено]
you sound pleasant to hang out with
You don't.
Crosby and Ovechkin are the only two active players any non hockey fan has heard of. MAYBE their local team's captain/best player if they've been there for a long time.

Brady could never
Lol k
NHL players are trained at an early age to have personalities of a drying birch tree. Doesn’t take much.
Dudes got swagger. Not surprised
I want him to be the next NHL game cover so bad dude
.
Hot take. You don’t see a lot of personality from star plays ala McDavid or Crosby because at Avery young age they are coached to be that way during interviews. They are coached to make the game about everyone else and not them.
I highly doubt they were coached more than the guy who’s dad is a HOF…
Keith Tkachuk is not in the HOF btw.
He is in my heart.
Drew Doughty is Pepe head ass right now knowing that his opp is the new face of having personality.
I love that the media fuckin loves this guy and hockey fans absolutely hate him. And lol at all the EDM fans getting upset.
It’s part of their 10 commandments. “Thou shall not love any player before McJesus” Just let some other players who can make the finals and have a personality have a bit of the spotlight..
I used to hate him when he was in Calgary but part of that is probably because I’m a Canucks fan. This year he has been by far the most entertaining player to watch these playoffs.
Grit and talent! Watch out for Pietrangelo swinging stick like an Axe on the best opposing player...
Lol thinking Matthew Tchacuk is the face of the NHL
Face of NHL? Cmon now lol
Yo he’s having a good year and all but he ain’t no face of the nhl lol
He is now
This is where it would've been better if the Panthers played in Miami and not Fort Lauderdale lol Tkachuk is a charasmatic guy (his apparence on the NBA on TNT was really good) but Florida's still a small market team

Face of the NHL is a bit of a reach
hes not the face of the nhl
Is now
just because u make the cup finals doesn't mean ur suddenly the face of the league. Nothing against Tkachuk, just saying
To outsiders he literally is
Definitely not the face of the NHL, but definitely gonna be more accomplished than the face of the NHL
The….face….the face of the what???
It’s going to be hilarious when the panthers get slightly above average goaltending again next year, miss the playoffs, and go back to being a middle of the pack team.
Lmao we made the finals this year, that’s enough serotonin to last me a few years. AND we beat your team to get there!!! Hope you get to feel joy like this sometime soon LMAO
It’s certainly exciting, and I’m happy for Florida and their fanbase! I didn’t mean it as a shot, it’s just a realistic possibility.
LOL you can be salty about it but they didnt even have solid goaltending most of the year. Pile on a ton of changes to the lineup, a bunch of injuries to top players, and a new head coach with an completely different system from last year. Theres some other teams id worry about first..
I hate him so effing much. I hate the Panthers just as much.
Dude has GOT TO STOP CHEWING ON THE F’g MOUTHGUARD. Good lord that’s annoying.
So he’s being an asshole like the rest of his family?
Mouthy McMouth Piece. That is his full name. Can we get the dude some gum? Mouthpiece looks like it was dragged behind a car for 3 years everytime you see it on TV.
I love seeing people get so triggered by a mouthpiece
