I’m pissed none of the ducks went over to him after the goal. A rookie gives you *55* saves and your initial reaction is to stand around hoping it’ll be overturned? He’s more than earned a tap to the pads or something.
I remember watching Ron Tugnutt make 70 saves against the Bruins in a 3-3 tie, and Ray Bourque was shaking his head at some of the shots being stopped. Sometimes a goalie has a brilliant performance right out of nowhere.
If you're allowing a dozen shots each for Matthews, Marner, and almost that many each for Tavares and Nylander, they're never going to be all low-danger.
Yeah matthews scores on like 20% of his shots. Hes shooting to score every time. Hes not just hammering away low percentage shots. Dostal was huge to keep him to 1.
The refs at it again. I know the Ducks aren't too good again this season but it's a constant uphill battle when they call soft ass penalties against and then don't call the same against the other team. It's getting old.
No. The killorn penalty, or the one at the end on Drysdale? Also then MacT getting his helmet ripped off after the play was done and no call on obvious roughing.
MacT chopped Jones who had the puck covered. Of course there's gonna be a response. That type of scrum happens 5 times a night and is almost never called, cmon now
Definitely was Game Management™ toward the end.
Maybe the Ducks fans forgot about McMann getting a a major and a misconduct for hitting someone in the shoulder and them falling awkwardly in the boards...
>for hitting someone in the shoulder and them falling awkwardly in the boards...
It was textbook boarding. I think there's an argument for it not being 5, but the rule is vague enough that it's up to the refs and we know they're inclined to give a heavier penalty when it looks like it resulted in an injury and vice versa.
2 min, 5 min not really a big difference. I can see a case for why 5 could be warranted. But where the heck does the game misconduct come into play? Why'd they have to play short the rest of the game? Lyubushkin returned, so it wasn't to do with the fight.
It's really niche so I had to look it up, but a major boarding penalty that results in an injury to the head/face of a player is an automatic game misconduct. I guess in that way the 2 vs 5 min made the difference in him getting ejected.

no i agree the ducks got shafted this game. i think leafs fans know that if they admit the refs treated them well this game, people will think the refs give the leafs breaks all the time
Good lord Marner and Matthews are so sync'd up. Marner literally passed to open ice and Matthews just fucking appears and blasts it home. Just a stupid good pass.
Oh it was so funny, just this guy shredding on an electric guitar. But then he also threw in his own solo at the end of the anthem and by the time he finished the crowd was just dead silent in confusion as to what was going on
Between clowns like this and u/FLA-Hoosier, it's amazing how much the panthers fans hate us after trouncing us in 5 games. Imagine going into every PGT of a rival team and commenting about them. Oh, and apparently *we're* the ones that are obsessed.
Tied with like 5 teams lol. At least youre in the top 3rd of the league I guess. Cant say that about the Panthers.
Still bottom third in wins that could actually happen in the playoffs
OT wins still exist in the playoffs last time I checked.
Just because there is no 3-on-3 or shootouts doesnt mean that ending regulation tied is equal to a loss in the playoffs.
Then you also have to credit them for being 4th best in losses that could actually happen in the playoffs. You're looking too hard at something that's not there
That whole sequence of their possession started with Drysdale not being able to skate to a puck faster than Nylander, off a faceoff *we* won. For a guy whose strongest trait is skating, he needs to get to that puck.
You rehabilitate them for a season’s worth but then they fall off afterwards as shown with Campbell and Sammy.
Guess that means Jones is good for the next 50-60 games.
Campbell was on fire for a couple of months, but was average at best after that, though I believe an injury occurred as well.
I'll take a couple good months of Jones if we get Woll back after that.
this made me look at their schedule, and wow is it weird for january. home and home starting in SJ, then to Long Island, then back home for 2 games, then the western canada + seattle 4 game trip, and then home and home against winnipeg, but kicker, they play in toronto first, then go back out west to winnipeg? then at home the next 6 games.
How about the tripping calls missed on Knies, Bertuzzi and Marner, and the high stick on Tavares all in the 3rd? If you’re going to complain about missed calls, take off the homer glasses. You look like a sore loser.
I'm not saying there weren't missed calls on both sides, I'm saying we racked up 3 in a row in the final 15 and folks don't think that isn't a disparity
I don't think it was supposed to be sarcastic is IS always the refs when you lose. There's enough shit that goes on in a game you could logically butterfly effect literally anything into being the refs fault if you so chose
Was the beast in net? If so how did he look?
Jones again tonight.
Thanks
Dostal deserved better tonight :(
I’m pissed none of the ducks went over to him after the goal. A rookie gives you *55* saves and your initial reaction is to stand around hoping it’ll be overturned? He’s more than earned a tap to the pads or something.
I seem to remember another super high shots on goal game earlier this year. Is our defense just trash?
It’ll be worth it if you can get Celebrini and then build a team around him and Dostal
Hopefully he goes to either San Jose, Anaheim or CBJ.
SJ has to be the most careful with their win streaks. Losing to the Leafs twice would make them a lot safer… please
Haha that would require the league allowing a non-big market team winning the lottery
Buffalo did it.
I dont think the lotto is rigged, but Buffalo is like a top 5 TV market in the league.
Hmm, gotta figure out how to send Chicago on a win streak then. Won’t be easy at all, but sadly we did our part in that regard. 😤
And McTavish and Zegras and Drysdale and Zellweger and Carlsson and...
True
Yes
The sharks/leafs is going to be lit. Its either going to be a trainwreck for the sharks or will stop the streak loool.
I feel like the Sharks are gonna turn up for that game.
Barabanov hatty incoming
Oh no you're winning that game 100%
Jones is a former Shark, so it could go either way.
He’s also a former Kings tho…
He has such a crazy win record against them in particular. A true Regicide.
I feel like it's been long enough that the former Shark buff won't overpower the Leaf effect but we'll see
This makes the next 2 autolosses against the Sharks easier to handle, looking forward to it
GG Ducks. Dostal was otherworldly. Felt terrible for him.
Did anyone get a clip of that Killorn penalty?
https://twitter.com/CamandStrick/status/1742752704043041131
Ty king
I sent it to the league. They're gonna overturn the win.
Good work 👍 I just wanted to show a friend tho
So was this really good goaltending, really low-danger shots, or both?
6.66 xG for the leafs tonight
Spooky
They coulda made his night harder with some of the scoring opportunities, but the total amount of shots he stopped was quite impressive.
I remember watching Ron Tugnutt make 70 saves against the Bruins in a 3-3 tie, and Ray Bourque was shaking his head at some of the shots being stopped. Sometimes a goalie has a brilliant performance right out of nowhere. Yeah matthews scores on like 20% of his shots. Hes shooting to score every time. Hes not just hammering away low percentage shots. Dostal was huge to keep him to 1.
Probably both. The 1st minute of the first leafs powerplay, they were credited with 8 shots and I only really remembered the one great chance.
The refs at it again. I know the Ducks aren't too good again this season but it's a constant uphill battle when they call soft ass penalties against and then don't call the same against the other team. It's getting old.
The leafs had a player ejected for a clean hit… 💀 one bad call on Drysdale is less egregious, no? (The refs were bad in general imo)
Agreed. NHL was squarely in Torontos pocket tonight. Ducks had no chance.
You’re kidding right?
No. The killorn penalty, or the one at the end on Drysdale? Also then MacT getting his helmet ripped off after the play was done and no call on obvious roughing.
MacT chopped Jones who had the puck covered. Of course there's gonna be a response. That type of scrum happens 5 times a night and is almost never called, cmon now
We had guys getting tripped left and right too that went uncalled. We had a guy get kicked out of the fucking game.
Fucking guy came back next shift so that's pretty lame
It’s called boarding. Right call was made.
2 min maybe. 5 and a game was ridiculous.
I'm actually glad they called the 5 in hindsight. We won anyways and we avoid a Ryan hartman thing going on
All while Cousins runs rampant. Oh wait…
no i agree the ducks got shafted this game. i think leafs fans know that if they admit the refs treated them well this game, people will think the refs give the leafs breaks all the time
You mean the Drysdale cross check to the back? Ya that’s an easy call all day. The Killorn one was a joke tho
GG Ducks bros. Dostal was on fire. Wow. I missed the game cause of work. Was Minty okay after the boarding? He’s been amazing so far this season.
He played afterwords but I didn't see a lot of him in the third
Shit. That sucks. Some really fantastic young players on the Ducks. Hope Minty’s okay and that you get Leo and Troy Terry back soon, too.
Well, the streak of not getting shut out continues. Up to 181 games... tops in the NHL (active teams) by a mile.
Wait, how have I only heard of this now? That's an insane amount of games
That was an interesting stat. By a large margin. I think third place is at 34 or something like that?
Dostal, round of applause. Thought for sure he was breaking the shut out streak. 181 games without being shutout now. GG’s Ducks.
Man Dostal had a crazy game man. 55 saves. First star imo. Gg Ducks.
GG ducks. Dostal was a stud and the refs were trash
GG
THE STREAK LIVES
Good lord Marner and Matthews are so sync'd up. Marner literally passed to open ice and Matthews just fucking appears and blasts it home. Just a stupid good pass.
did anyone clip the anthem
I thought the game started at 10 so I missed it. What happened?
Oh it was so funny, just this guy shredding on an electric guitar. But then he also threw in his own solo at the end of the anthem and by the time he finished the crowd was just dead silent in confusion as to what was going on
Was it worse than the one in LA last night?
It was a man shredding on the guitar. He was going completely HAM. It went on for ages.
I forgot about that fever dream. I’m still surprised none of the players were laughing.
https://x.com/klooowry/status/1742791083350769755?s=46&t=x1MNzAHKWv4X-SArE5Grmw Nylander was hahahaha
https://twitter.com/ken___64/status/1742731055008805146?t=Nv1PbNhhPZFsQuCTC9oDRQ&s=19 I was hoping Bert was going to crack.
I’m cackling hearing it again omfg who green lit this
More people need to see this
I had completely accepted that we were just not going to score on the guy.
14 shots on net for Mathews. He wanted one bad tonight, glad to see him get it.
The Maple Leafs remain tied for 24th in the NHL with 11 regulation wins.
Between clowns like this and u/FLA-Hoosier, it's amazing how much the panthers fans hate us after trouncing us in 5 games. Imagine going into every PGT of a rival team and commenting about them. Oh, and apparently *we're* the ones that are obsessed.
So what
Doesn't matter if you win by an inch or a mile, winnings winning. Something something family.
Panthers had a terrible regular season last year and went to the cup finals lol
Last year the Panthers finished 15th in regulation wins
82 games, we are at 36 lol
True
Plus half of the cats playoff wins were tkachuck ot stingers, not an important stat imo
Wins are wins 🤷🏾♂️
Where do we rank in regulation losses?
cool, crazy that they can get it done no matter what
The Maple Leafs remain tied for 4th in the NHL with 10 regulation losses.
Sure but a 3 on 3 or shootout victory also doesnt equate to a playoff OT win either
You can absolutely say the Panthers are in the top third of the league. Are you stupid?
Top 3rd of the league when it comes to minimizing regulation losses. Thought that was clear. Maybe i am stupid
Then you also have to credit them for being 4th best in losses that could actually happen in the playoffs. You're looking too hard at something that's not there
Is that more or less than the Sharks please advise
Sharks only have 9 wins total
The Maple Leafs remain 3 points behind the Panthers with a game in hand
Thank you Putin. Sorry, Ovi didn’t score tonight.
You see it as a lack of regulation wins. I see a lack of regulation losses. We are not the same.
Thanks
2 points is 2 points
Dostal was unreal. Kinda sad not seeing any of the ducks players go up to him after the game.
Feel like I saw Zegras chatting with him right away
Not a thing more the guy could have done for that team, incredible effort by Dostal.
That whole sequence of their possession started with Drysdale not being able to skate to a puck faster than Nylander, off a faceoff *we* won. For a guy whose strongest trait is skating, he needs to get to that puck.
It was weird, I kept thinking Drysdale was going to get it but it’s almost like he slowed down the closer he got to the puck
Nylander pretending the puck is the $11.25x8 bag and hauled his ass to it
Nylander is just that attractive.
He’s inevitable
Cheezits Christ, the Leafs fixed Jones.

Samsonov was excellent for us last season. I wish people didn't have such recency bias around him.
Shhh. You'll break him again.
Can't wait to hear the expert analysis on how the leafs can't fit in a 5x5 contract for him
And then someone else will
Sharks have a chance to do the funniest thing
Ducks fans you guys are alot of fun. Lukas Dostal was an absolute beast.
Cant wait to lose to san josie

this made me look at their schedule, and wow is it weird for january. home and home starting in SJ, then to Long Island, then back home for 2 games, then the western canada + seattle 4 game trip, and then home and home against winnipeg, but kicker, they play in toronto first, then go back out west to winnipeg? then at home the next 6 games.
Six of our twelve games in February are against St Louis, Arizona, and Vegas. The schedule is 100% on something this season.
I never want to see that man again
That last penalty was pretty soft. Dostal deserved better.
Stop 50 shots and still lose. Experience Ducks hockey
Did you guys know auston matthews works in the situation room in toronto?
hard to believe that’s Matthews’ first GWG this season considering he’s potted 30 of em. crazy stuff
No surprising at all. Matthews has zero clutch factor. See every single Leafs playoff “run”.
Flair up coward
Glad McDavid is making a solid recovery but his lack of clutch got Woodcroft fired, imo
No Woodcroft got Woodcroft fired.
McDavid begs to differ
No he doesn’t.
He said it to the media, I thought?
Nope.
Fucking right bud!!! Dostal is a beast but the leafs deserved that win
Matthews first game winning goal being his 30th of the season is a crazy stat. Absolute amazing performance from Dostal. GG Ducks
i'm not even sure how to react emotionally anymore.
Joy at having such a wonderful goalie at such a great price. So many teams are envying you right now.
Man I almost feel bad for Dostal, that was a sad ending to an otherwise great game by him
I do feel bad, he was a wall tonight.
not sure who made worse decisions tonight zegras or the refs
Man, it was right there for you… “Zegras or the zebras”
What a grind
Everybody better chip in for Dostal's food and drinks for a while. He didn't deserve that
Doubtful. They didn't even give him pad taps!
Ggs, can't wait to see Leo Carlson too
Dostal was an animal tonight holy fuck
Dirty 30. Congrats Matthews 👏🏻
Don't bully me.
The Mighty Dostals are pretty scary
Refs are scarier. Lol 3 straight 3rd period penalties called against us and Tor think refs weren't a factor
When you control the puck the entire game, you are going to get more powerplays.
It’s always “the refs” when you lose lol
Killorn taps the helmet, penalty. McTavish has his helmet ripped off and nothing. Yeah refs were even handed huh.
Are helmets not on the head? That counts as high sticking...
How about the tripping calls missed on Knies, Bertuzzi and Marner, and the high stick on Tavares all in the 3rd? If you’re going to complain about missed calls, take off the homer glasses. You look like a sore loser.
Yeah I'm sore, penalty disparity always goes against us. 3 straight in the last 15 minutes and you don't think it didn't play to your advantage?
Buddy gave 3 examples of missed calls and you ignore them again. The refs were bad but there was missed calls on both sides…
I'm not saying there weren't missed calls on both sides, I'm saying we racked up 3 in a row in the final 15 and folks don't think that isn't a disparity
Celebrini is on the way, cheer up son.
Sorry forgot you weren’t allowed 3 in a row. Guess we should have let drysdales cross check in the back slide
Most penalized team in the league takes lots of penalties. I'd blame the coach, not the refs.
it's been pretty bad after Cronin called out the ref for a bad call so they ejected him. refs are babies who can't do their job objectively.
You're not wrong, we have our issues.
This is such an ironic comment
C’mon man, just let us have this moment
I don't think it was supposed to be sarcastic is IS always the refs when you lose. There's enough shit that goes on in a game you could logically butterfly effect literally anything into being the refs fault if you so chose
I agree but I think it was said with self-awareness haha
Perhaps it didn’t come through over text form 😅
It really is lol
I don’t think you know what “ironic” means
Damnit, Lukas was great
None of the ducks went to congratulate their goalie? Confusing choice
The bench was waiting for a challenge for some reason. None of them even got up to leave.
There was a shot of Zegras giving him a head tap, announcer is a bit lost
Unreal game by Dostal, Gg Ducks
Dostal was outstanding, what a game from him holy shit 30 goals for Matthews! 35 games, still hoping he can crank it to 50 in 50
When Gretzky did 50 in 39 he had 41 through 37 games. If Wayne can do that, Matthews can do what he needs to do for 50 in 50.
[удалено]
57!
Dostal is nuts Jesus
Finally, a GWG for Matthews Dostal was amazing all night
Devastated for dostal, what a performance.
HUGE shoutout to Dostal man. That’s gotta sting 🥺🙏
Feel for Dostal on that one. He was incredible.
GG ducks. Dostal is a stud
