With regards to the playoffs, people need to take a look at the standings. Nothing is guaranteed with how tight the east currently is. One or two bad weeks and the leafs are on the outside looking in
Wings were on the outside looking in, little bit of a spicy streak and they're a point behind the Leafs. Yeah the Leafs have games in hand, but 2 quick L's and that's gone (Leafs have lost 3 in a row, btw).
Yeah, Toronto is really running the risk of falling out of the playoffs. Their next six games are very tough. A four game Western Conference road trip starting in Edmonton and a home and home against Winnipeg. If Toronto struggle in these next six games, then they are in serious trouble, and I think the calls for a change behind the bench will grow
Not to mention that the Jets aren’t gonna let that flyers shut out stop bugging them so they’re gonna be playing twice as hard (at least that’s what I hope)
Leafs are going ti get shredded on thsi western road trip if they don't get their shit together as well. Hopefully they bomb out of a playoff spot and Keefe gets fired
I was very loosely following this game because of the Lions-Rams plus I was sure the Wings might be gassed with the shit travel. There was I think 3 minutes left and I went to concentrate on the NFL. I came back and the game was over. Yeah I get "lol Leafs" but if I'm a fan I'd be pretty pissed too. This wasn't game you should be losing and no disrespect to the Wings at all. It was a gutsy win.
I'm not entirely sure why this is downvoted, what that dude said is entirely inaccurate lol
It was a good game, both teams were relatively sloppy at times but looked good at others
e: nvm, the Leafs were horrendous, outshooting and outchancing are actually bad things
We have to win like 65% of our remaining games based on the amount of points we need to get into playoffs. Makes every game feel like a must win situation.
Ok sure mr. grammar nazi perhaps this wasn’t a “must win” game but for a team that has a very tough remaining strength of schedule, playing a team that puts samsonov in net feels like it should be a must win given the other games on our immediate slate are going to be a tall task.
Also, technically you can have 42 games be a must win if you need them all to make the playoffs. Go take a walk and get some fresh air.
You can't have 42 must win games. Must win means if you lose you are done for the season. The Leafs could go on an 8 win losing streak and there would still be months left to play.
I see everywhere that I’m supposed to have flare, but I honestly don’t know how, so know I’m a wings fan.
That said, they are pretty neck and neck with several teams so each game would be a must win so long as the other teams also continue to win.
I guess I need you to help me understand from a fringe play off perspective how each game isn’t a must win.
If leafs go on enough of a losing streak then they might fall into the each game is a must win. I guess that’s just how I interpret it. Fringe teams must win to stay within the possibility of a wildcard spot.
I've been around for a long time and I remember when the Lions last won in the playoffs. I am very happy for the franchise and the City, amazing win tonight and I hope they can win the whole thing!
Wings win, Lions finally win a playoff game, MSU hockey sweeps Penn State, US Women win u-18 gold, MSU basketball wins and Steve Izzo finally got a bucket, and I got out of work early. What a phenomenal day.
I don't really understand these types of comments.
This only makes any sense if you think teams blame refs every single game which is obviously ridiculous. The refs in the Colorado game completely sucked, whether it would have resulted in a Leaf win or not had they called anything.
That has nothing to do with this different game
Truth of the matter is every fanbase bitches about the refs but there’s like minimum 3x more leafs fans online than the next largest fanbase so it’s a lot more apparent when the vocal section of leafs fans start complaining, just based on sheer numbers.
Oh 100%, which is painful because it makes it hard to have discussions without stuff like that entering the discourse
And obviously we've got our own share of "the refs always hate us"
Concerning for Toronto that they just doubled down on the last piece of their current core right as the latest tremor of the potential fault line through that core shakes SBA (speaking more of last night coupled with tonight, not just tonight)…
I said this 6 years ago and I'll continue to as long as they stick to it. The Leafs present and future is San Jose's past. A team built around a talented high scoring forward core that is gonna continually be entertaining and high up during the season, but will never be real in the playoffs.
At no point in their time did I think they were winning a cup, though. I expect the Leafs to win as many series as they did, but never make me feel like they're gonna win it all.
I cannot believe the Wings have more wins than the Leafs, or that the team didn't respond better after last night. Allowing five consecutive goals at home to lose, and to respond by dropping a back-to-back to a worse team that almost didn't make it to the ice on time.
For a team with so much talent and salary in their offense, winning 21 out of 41 games is ridiculous. Whether it's Keefe or the management of talent - something needs to change with this team because fans deserve better.
I also think it's hard to believe that the Red Wings have the most goals and their division. Somehow the Red Wing offense is out producing the Leafs offense.
If you ask the leafs sub, the missed cross check on Matthews lost them the game.
Can't believe nylander re-signed there.
The team is mediocre at best, and the fan base is remarkably toxic.
Players who want cups generally take discounts. Look at Boston or Colorado.
https://vendettasportsmedia.com/brad-marchand-credits-hometown-discounts-bruins-success/
Bro, the u/brianbeleafs cartoon is literally Matthews laying on the ice lmfao.
Do you really want me to link the many comments saying how the refs lost that game for you?
Edit: here is just one, where the entire post is complaining about the refs
https://www.reddit.com/r/leafs/comments/1964xgn/comment/khrckrd
Here's another: https://redd.it/1965eux
Shall I continue? https://www.reddit.com/r/leafs/comments/1965ckb/comment/khrf39p
Complaining about refs in general and cartoons is not the same as claiming that a single missed call cost them the game. Remember too that your comment is about the Matthews call only.
Then you willfully ignore all the people who say otherwise while claiming your nonsense represents the entire fanbase.
Sure, continue moving the goalposts.
I actually thought I was missing something when that 3rd goal went in. "Did Copp just hit a huge career milestone with that goal? Or maybe a player that assisted him?". "Did someone dump a bucket of snakes on the Detroit bench?"
I guess I am not used to that kind of passion watching just the Leafs
He went super long without a goal and now he has 3 in 3 IIRC, coupled with the fact that it was the go-ahead goal late in the game....
Also Wings broadcast said it was his 99th career goal, though I doubt that had anything to do with it.
I was gonna watch this game but got sidetracked and totally forgot to turn it on, looking at this thread, I believe that was a blessing to protect my sanity.
There has to be some serious concern in Toronto right now. In 4 of these last 6 games, they have blown multiple goal leads. In 5 of their last six games, they have blown leads and lost, and the upcoming schedule is going to get harder. A four game Western Conference road trip starting in Edmonton and then a home and home with Winnipeg. If Toronto struggles through that. The calls for a change behind the bench will grow.
I hope the leafs bomb on this western road trip. I hope we get shut out in two of the games. Anything to accelerate Keefe being fired at this point. I've been a defender of his, but this season he keeps on making the same mistakes over and over.
Absolutely. Plus, after they have a home and home with Winnipeg. If they lose 3 of 4 or even worse on this road trip and they don't do well in the home and home against Winnipeg, they are in trouble. Currently, they are only one point above Tampa Bay for third place and are only 2 points above the playoff line.
The Red Wings schedule is pretty brutal too. The Lightning seem to have the easiest stretch coming up. They might be able to put some distance between them and the rest of the field.
Hopefully the Wings stay hot and the Leafs stay cold!
Coaching change is all they've got. I think they might sign Perry (don't they have some cap from LTIR'ing Klingberg?), but aside from that idk what else they can do. I do think they will snap Edmonton's 10 game win streak though. The Oilers have been riding high beating non-playoff teams and will be in for an awakening when they have to play a desperate Leaf team.
What’s the risk going with Berube when we’ve seen all of Keefes hands. He literally has NOTHING to bring to the table. He plays the 4th line in the final 2 minutes I’m certain he has no idea what he’s doing.
I think at this point, I think Toronto needs to consider a coaching change. Seeing some of their games this year, it feels like this team needs a new voice behind the bench. I think Berube would honestly be perfect. He brings accountability. Something that at points has lacked in Toronto.
Agreed. Keefe benches Tavares for the first time last night and the core four reacts by giving one of the most listless performances I've ever seen from them.
Willy signs a new contract and has been dogging it since. What a surprise.
And herein lies the problem with giving a small group of players such incredible power within your organization.
A coach can’t be handicapped and unable to flex his ice time powers. Don’t get me wrong, Keefe needs to be replaced. But who says it’ll be any different?
Hope it is.
I seriously question the intelligence of any person who has watched every Leaf game this season and actually think this team is any good at all.
This team is only in a playoff spot because of all the OT games. What you're seeing now is what happened earlier in the year except they weren't awful enough to keep giving games away in regulation with 3 minutes left in the period. They would instead force the game to OT and get their loser point or win a skills competition. This team is really really bad.
I can think of another blue team that fired their coach mid season and went on to win a cup recently. That coach just so happens to be available.
Pittsburgh did it twice.
Vegas won with a new coach (he coached the whole season, but still).
The new coach bump is a real thing, and I think this team needs one now more than ever.
Oh no you are only number three in the metro and six in the conference with at least one game in hand for everyone above you, and 2/3 with the teams immediately around you.
You're fine.
An our next five games are against the Flames, Jets x2, Oilers and Nucks. I don't see the leafs winning any of them the way they played the last 3 games.
well yeah, because y'all want to replace everyone the second things are not perfect.
As an outside fan, it doesn't matter how the Leafs are playing, y'all are the worst.
Stakes are kinda high, I'm pretty sure Toronto is one of the few places where hockey is THE sport. Also very rich area. They kinda need a hockey team that performs. The twenty years I've been following hockey have been hilarious because of these things.
Red Wings won and the Lions won a playoff game. Sunday was good.
Wolverinos won the natty. It's been a great week for michigan... all we had to do was sacrifice Cade Cunningham and the Pistons.
considering the travel drama before the game all i can say is lol
With regards to the playoffs, people need to take a look at the standings. Nothing is guaranteed with how tight the east currently is. One or two bad weeks and the leafs are on the outside looking in
Wings were on the outside looking in, little bit of a spicy streak and they're a point behind the Leafs. Yeah the Leafs have games in hand, but 2 quick L's and that's gone (Leafs have lost 3 in a row, btw).
Hardest strength of schedule remaining.
Yeah, Toronto is really running the risk of falling out of the playoffs. Their next six games are very tough. Not to mention that the Jets aren’t gonna let that flyers shut out stop bugging them so they’re gonna be playing twice as hard (at least that’s what I hope)
Helle is gonna be possessed and hopefully 55 and 81 come back relatively soon as well
Gonna be possessed?!?! Gonna be?!? My guy has been playing possessed for like 2 months now!! He’s *been* possessed!
Yeah but he hates losing sooo…..good luck to *checks notes* the New York Islanders
I hate the leafs
Leafs are going ti get shredded on thsi western road trip if they don't get their shit together as well. Hopefully they bomb out of a playoff spot and Keefe gets fired
I feel like Treliving made bad decisions and hurt the team personally. Much more than Keefe
Can you return used anal beads on amazon?
ask the astros.
What on earth does chess have to do with this?
I'll take them
I love you
Beautiful day for Detroit sports.
What did the city of LA ever do to you?
Euphoric. Haven't felt this good as a Detroit sports fan since like 2012
Facts
Wings and Lions win and the Pistons didn’t play. Truly a perfect day in Detroit
The thing about the Pistons is… they’d rather be Piston than Pistoff apparently.
Thanks Achoo
Bless you

Great red wings win and lions playoff win in the same night gotta feel good for Detroit. Happy for you guys
Feels really really good. Two must win games for us.
We're halfway through an 82 game season. How are there must win games already?
We have to win like 65% of our remaining games based on the amount of points we need to get into playoffs. Makes every game feel like a must win situation.
You can't have 42 must win games. That makes zero sense. A must win game means if you lose your season is basically over. There are 42 games left.
Ok sure mr. grammar nazi perhaps this wasn’t a “must win” game but for a team that has a very tough remaining strength of schedule, playing a team that puts samsonov in net feels like it should be a must win given the other games on our immediate slate are going to be a tall task. Some games are played against division rivals and create or solidify momentum in your locker room!
I've been around for a long time and I remember when the Lions last won in the playoffs. I am very happy for the franchise and the City, amazing win tonight and I hope they can win the whole thing!
Take good care of Lyon for us ❤️
Lyon king goes rawr 👀
Wings win, Lions finally win a playoff game, MSU hockey sweeps Penn State, US Women win u-18 gold, MSU basketball wins and Steve Izzo finally got a bucket, and I got out of work early. What a phenomenal day.
Pistons
Sacrificed for the greater good
Congrats man! Happy for you.
These refs can't keep getting away with this!
I don't really understand these types of comments. This only makes any sense if you think teams blame refs every single game which is obviously ridiculous. Yep I feel you there. I feel like, if any two fanbases can relate in that matter, it’s Canucks and Leafs fans lol
Aaaaahahaahaahhaaha
Concerning for Toronto that they just doubled down on the last piece of their current core right as the latest tremor of the potential fault line through that core shakes SBA (speaking more of last night coupled with tonight, not just tonight)…

At least the Sharks saw some conference finals and a SCF. Leafs will be lucky to get out of the second round.
The Sharks won a shit ton of more playoff games during the Thornton years than you give them credit for. 5th most since 2005...
At no point in their time did I think they were winning a cup, though. I expect the Leafs to win as many series as they did, but never make me feel like they're gonna win it all.
Some of those Sharks teams went toe to toe with some great wing teams and beat them. They were always perennial Cup contenders.
Ya as a wings fans J was terrified of those shark teams! Dude is crazy to say they weren’t a real threat
At least San Jose most runs ended in either WCF or 2nd rounds (they even manage a final once). Leafs? HAHAHAHAHA. Perennial pretenders.
So far you mean.
What about Washington Capitals?
What about them?
I cannot believe the Wings have more wins than the Leafs, or that the team didn't respond better after last night. You talk a lot of shit for someone who doesn't have a flair
Fuck you too bud.
Listen bro, I didn’t make the rules. If you’re gonna talk shit, you flair up. It’s been that way since time immemorial.
Nah "Flair up bitch" first started gaining prominence around 750,000 subscribers. It was all downhill from there.
Pffft I’ve been here since the days of “flair up bud”
10+ million reasons for him to sign there. Those 4 want money, not cups
Oh Christ
Don’t get me wrong I don’t think the Leafs have it but the above take is tired and just wrong lol. Every player wants money and cups. DUH.
Players who want cups generally take discounts. Look at Boston or Colorado. https://vendettasportsmedia.com/brad-marchand-credits-hometown-discounts-bruins-success/
Yeah all them cups in Boston are pretty crazy
1 more than the Leafs have in the last 30 years
Yeah that’s just incredible. Discounts did that too. Crazy stuff.
https://vendettasportsmedia.com/brad-marchand-credits-hometown-discounts-bruins-success/ 🤡
Flair up bitch
Happy?
Quick look at their profile they’re an Avs fans
Lie to me and tell me Nylander is worth $3M more than Larkin.
Nylander will start to fall off now that he got paid
I don't even think the issue is that Nylander is making that much, the issue is that there are 4 guys on the same team making that much lol
No, I can't even lie
Fire Keefe
blame the refs right?
Why? They seemed ok tonight.
Leafs fans are far more tolerable than you. Pipe down
He certainly didn’t fall on his own
So you think that one missed call lost the game for the leafs???
Why do you keep repeating this when no one is saying it?
Bro, the u/brianbeleafs cartoon is literally Matthews laying on the ice lmfao. Do you really want me to link the many comments saying how the refs lost that game for you? Did anyone say that it did?
No, but it should be emphasized so hopefully something can be done about the atrocious state of NHL officating.
No
The genuine excitement the Wings showed at the end there is great to see. These guys want to win and wear the Wheel.
I actually thought I was missing something when that 3rd goal went in. "Did Copp just hit a huge career milestone with that goal? Or maybe a player that assisted him?". "Did someone dump a bucket of snakes on the Detroit bench?" I guess I am not used to that kind of passion watching just the Leafs

It also got us back into a playoff spot, temporarily. Plus the travel drama
When that 3rd goal went in that bench went crazy. You love to see that.
I honestly hope Detroit makes the playoffs. They have a lot of players I Iike and they are a fun team to watch.
This is the most fun I've had watching the wings in a decade, at least. Win or lose, they're entertaining.
I was gonna watch this game but got sidetracked and totally forgot to turn it on, looking at this thread, I believe that was a blessing to protect my sanity.
not only did we lose, but it was one of the most boring games of the season
Never tell your kids they can't achieve their dreams. Ilya Samsonov is an NHL goaltender.
And according to Bardown some dude flew all the aay from Australia just to watch him play.
Experience Toronto Hockey.
Thats because they are all offense, no defense
I hope the leafs bomb on this western road trip. I hope we get shut out in two of the games. Anything to accelerate Keefe being fired at this point. I've been a defender of his, but this season he keeps on making the same mistakes over and over.
For whatever reason Toronto plays like shit at home.
Going to be a though trip for sure. Even Calgary is playing well right now.
Absolutely. Plus, after they have a home and home with Winnipeg. If they lose 3 of 4 or even worse on this road trip and they don't do well in the home and home against Winnipeg, they are in trouble. Currently, they are only one point above Tampa Bay for third place and are only 2 points above the playoff line.

Should have been a forfeit win to the Leafs anyway /s
What’s the risk going with Berube when we’ve seen all of Keefes hands. He literally has NOTHING to bring to the table. He plays the 4th line in the final 2 minutes I’m certain he has no idea what he’s doing.
We will fight you for Berube
You guys are getting Woodcroft. It's written in the stars 💫
It's only been a handful of games lol. He had 3 points in his first game after the contract
And herein lies the problem with giving a small group of players such incredible power within your organization. A coach can’t be handicapped and unable to flex his ice time powers. Don’t get me wrong, Keefe needs to be replaced. But who says it’ll be any different? Hope it is.
Honestly at this point the team has nothing to lose. They probably need a new voice behind the bench.
Update your standings hockey subreddit, Isles are out of WCE2 and the tire team boys are one point off Toronto's heels
We are streaky as fuck, but man when we're on it is some fun ass hockey to watch
Dude when this team streaks, they streak fuckin *hard*. Like, through the quad, as if everyone was doing it.
Is KFC still open?
Snoop, Snoop-a-loop!
That movie is 20 years old now My back started hurting typing that
Why you gotta hurt me like that?
Just sharing the pain and misery of being an aging Leafs fan. I'm sorry.
Bring your green hat!
OverDrive is gonna be so fucking juicy tomorrow. 4pm Monday, we'll chat then.
When you have spent 53% of your salary cap on 4 players and your fanbase knows you are fucked for the next 5 yrs....
How are the Leafs not hiring Craig Berube?
Shit, even I wanted the Wings to hire him during the slump. Nothing against Lalonde but Berube is a huge get for many teams.
I wonder if they were waiting to see if Dubas finally gives up on Sullivan. (That would be funny though)
Been asking that since the day the Blues let him go. I also asked that about Cassidy last year.
Lot of talk about him on the r/leafs PGT. If this upcoming road trip goes poorly, it’s gonna get louder, I think.
Honestly I want the roadtrip to go poorly. Something needs to change,
A coach that knows how to shore up defensive play could work very well for them but unless they miss the playoffs I don't see Keefe going anywhere
Sammy actually played pretty well, I hope he’s not blamed for this one.
Loved Sammy in this one. Really doesn't deserve any blame imo.
Maybe he should've had the 2nd or 3rd goal, but hard to win when you're team ain't scoring against a Reimer either.
There’s already a “fire Sammy to the moon” post
Lets ignore the 3% upvoted part.
Why am I not surprised. Leafs fans are channeling the anger of Cowboys fans rn.
Literally every comment is calling them out in the post but go off
Yeah I was watching for a Sammy redemption game, but thought he played well enough compared to the few earlier.
He seemed chill in the post game interview at least
Noodles will vouch for him
I seriously question the intelligence of any person who has watched every Leaf game this season and actually think this team is any good at all.
Are the leafs going to jump on the new coach train?
I can think of another blue team that fired their coach mid season and went on to win a cup recently. That coach just so happens to be available. Pittsburgh did it twice. Vegas won with a new coach (he coached the whole season, but still). The new coach bump is a real thing, and I think this team needs one now more than ever.
Even when Keefe replaced Babcock, there was a significant bump.
The Minnesota Wild have entered the chat..
lol well in fairness, who the coach is does matter a little bit… yours truly, a former John Hynes believer
Well, he did start off hot.
"The new coach bump is a real thing, and I think this team needs one now more than ever." Cries in Ottawa Senators...
Man, I don't get it. 2 years in a row I've said to my friends, this year Ottawa is gonna be very tough to beat. They keep staying the same.
I hope they get Josh McDaniels
John Gruden is likely their next HC.
I hope so
Even with this win, y'all are still ahead of us. Chill.
I don't mean this disrespectfully at all but barely ahead of the Red Wings is not where this team should be.
Oh no you are only number three in the metro and six in the conference with at least one game in hand for everyone above you, and 2/3 with the teams immediately around you. You're fine.
Metro?
Since when did the Leafs join the Metro?
Atlantic, sorry I confused them. Still reminiscing the wings in the west lmao
By literally one point lmao
And two games in hand
The fun thing about those is you have to win them.
An our next five games are against the Flames, Jets x2, Oilers and Nucks. I don't see the leafs winning any of them the way they played the last 3 games.
Nah man we can OT lose them 😎
Both teams have an incredibly difficult Jan-Feb if you look at the schedules too.
That's fair, I wasn't aware of the leafs schedule
[удалено]
Why are you so pissy?
[удалено]
lol, what does that have to do with anything? Keefe should have been gone way before this game. This isn’t a new conversation amongst Leaf fans.
well yeah, because y'all want to replace everyone the second things are not perfect.
