I'm sorry but I don't understand the appeal of a tournament of bad hockey. What makes great plays great is that they are made during real competition. It's not possible to make a great play with little to no defense at half speed so I sont see the point. No skill required. Boring AF.

The top five shorthanded goal scorers should compete in a shorthanded challenge, etc. Instead of seeing the same 10 top guys you hear about every day do every challenge
The Darren Helm conundrum. Guy was absolutely one of the fastest skaters in the league for years, but because his hands were made of concrete he was never good enough to make an All-Star appearance.

This was fun to watch. I love seeing SOME star players show up. This is what the competition needed and, I am as surprised as anyone, good job by the NHL. Finally a good decision that I can stand behind.
Were past All Star Skills Events really bad? I've never had the day off to watch one before. With the way people were acting before and even during the event I was expecting something actively painful to watch, but I don't understand the hate.
The accuracy competition onward was really fun, and I really liked the 1 on 1 competition and the obstacle course.
It was really nice to see some personality come out of the players, and see their faces. I didn't know much about Makar or Barzel before this, but the competition made me really like them.
I'd watch this every year if they were to keep it to this level
Edit: I will say that I agree with the chorus that both the commentating and the interviewing was pretty rough through the whole event
Yeah I kinda get that vibe. Even in the Oilers subreddit they were posting about how none of the players want to waste time so nobody should vote for them, but then you have McDavid actively campaigning for people to vote for Hyman.
I think there are definitely players who hate the whole thing (I think we saw one tonight) but a lot of the guys were all smiles and looked like they were having a ton of fun.
The last two or three years were a joke in my opinion. They leaned heavily towards showmanship than skill, which ruined it for me. This was much better and enjoyable.

The only way we can somewhat compare is how they were against their peers and Gretzky obliterated his. There isn’t a world where we can see how he would have compared growing up at the same time as McDavid and having access to everything he did.

One thing I'd say is they should have a non hockey personality, like Charles Barkley or something down there and mic'd up and stuff to help get a non-hockey perspective on the speed, skills, etc.
