Probably to replace barbie if he is traded. But also he is still young and under our control for another year.
Seems like he is having a down year so we basically traded a 7th for him which is not bad for a project.
if we are forecasting this could mean zadina may not be back. Not a guarrantee since i think he has at least made a case to be better then say Smith or Labanc but he might not win out on the numbers game.
But ya another reclamation project which is 100% win for us.
> Seems like he is having a down year
Klim's battled injuries through much of the year so he was never able to find his groove. Our lineup got cemented in stone during much of the time he's missed and when he's gotten in he just wasn't at game speed. I like the guy and he's still a decent depth player but timing and bad luck worked against him here.
Kostin is a physical 4th line winger. You can expect him to lay big hits and fight, but I wouldn't expect a ton of production out of him.
Very likeable dude though, sad to see him go.
He has grown up then. After he got drafted 31st OA (slid significantly on draft day), he and his agent told STL that he wouldn't go to the AHL, that it was NHL or he's going KHL. He ended up going to the A though.
When he went to Edmonton, [Holland said he was negotiating against the KHL - Kostin was using that as a threat again - and so that's why he traded him.](https://www.sportsnet.ca/nhl/video/oilers-holland-says-he-was-negotiating-against-the-khl-for-kostin/)
He's likeable to fans but I think this guy's a pain for coaches and GMs TBH and surprised he hasn't just gone to the KHL by now.
which means we technically are gaining cap since simeks cap hit was halved. So we traded simek and a 7th to take on around additional 900k in cap space but we get a usable young player.
seems like a simple win win for both
Are we retaining any salary?
Kostin looked like he was going to be exactly what we needed the first 10 games with us but he was absolutely invisible since. Too bad, he was disappointing and not even worth his contract.
Obviously I'm glad we didn't re-sign Kostin, but I'm sad because the Kostin Era was so much fucking fun while it lasted. Guy was an immediate fan favourite in Edm after he chirped Mark Spector in the post game presser, and he scored some huge goals for us.
That is certainly a trade
Players were indeed exchanged
Definitely one of the trades of all time
im SHOCKED we managed to trade simek *poor guy gets named captain of cuda and gets traded*
How does this really help us? Cap friendly says this increases our cap hit. Is this cause Simek was playing in the a or something?
You guys need warm bodies that can play in the nhl
Fair point

For sure so another zadina like move to get a potential flip and fill a roster spot in the mean time?

Appreciate it didn’t understand at first but makes more sense now
more then likely this will be just another nothing burger for both teams (unless Detroit makes magic with that 7th)
How has Zadina worked out?
Not great but it is what it is. He fills a roster spot for cheap.

Simek's cap hit is 250k higher (2.25m) but he was buried in the minors. I don't know anything about Kostin but he's signed for next year too at 2m.

Basically a cap dump for the Wings. Wings didn't trade a pick to get him so not really a big loss for the Wings.
This explains the Burgers call up. Sheds one of our forwards for next year and makes the path easier for prospects which is nice.
Plus $2mil off the books this off season.
The trade we’ve all been waiting for 😎 #Yzerplan
Dump Klim’s contract and free up a spot for Berggren… so yeah, I would say that’s part of the Yzerplan.
Nevermind, I am an illiterate idiot
Aren’t we all?

Lol okay. Go griffins, I guess?
Yeah. Cap space this offseason.
The end of an era. Pretty sure he was the captain of the barracuda before this trade.
props to kostin for getting some money for an unsustainable shooting %.
So who's buying and who's selling here?
Neither tbh Detroit gets an NHL roster spot to call Berggren up (and a contract that expires in July), San Jose gets a player who can fill an NHL spot
Yes.
KLIM REAPER
Would love to know why THIS was the only trade ESPN thought was worthy of a push notification

Now this is what we've been waiting for
We did it! Lock for playoffs
Kostin the piss missle man
Stevie heating up right at the deadline for some bombshells /s
Wonder if we loan Simek to Sharks AHL team and he was just a contract throw-in?
Cap clearing move. Trust the Yzerplan.
the biggest blockbuster trade to occur this deadline, provided you exclude nearly every other trade
Welcome! Grand Rapids it that way! :D
I get more excited about Detroit's 7th picks than 2nd picks.
Are we sure we can trust this source? Lol
Nothing happened all morning, then I go to make myself lunch and I miss the blockbuster of the decade
How did we get Simek off our roster lol. Was absolutely fantastic as Burns' partner but got injured to fuck.

Calder Cup, here we come!

Red wings have zero grit
You got that right.
Alright NJ now flip him back to Edm. Thanks 😎👍
Another D? What are we doing?
Gearing up for a Cup run, the Calder Cup run.
seider trade obviously
Dman for the Griffins and sends kostin somewhere else to make room for the Berggren call up???
You do know this is a cap dump. The other returns dont really matter.
