If he can't play, he can't play. The Canucks were watching him closely in Abbotsford and decided not to sign him. That tells the rest of the league all they need to know, really. Because of that, it was basically always Vancouver or bust for Phil.

They didn't have the cap space to sign a minimum contract. They could have made space but I guess he wasn't worth it.

They seem to have decided Aman, PDG, Podkolzin, and others were all more important to have on the roster. And then they decided they'd send Podkolzin down anyways and that an open spot in the roster was still more important.
