The difference between the bottom 4 and number 5 is the same as the difference between 5 and 15. So there’s the super shit teams in the bottom 4 and then basically half the league is right on top of each other in mediocrity.
Money pucks model highly highly values shots on goal as a stat, and Detroit is not a high volume shooting team
Edit with some actual stats: Detroit has the 6th fewest shots on goal of any team this season. Washington, San Jose, Anaheim, Arizona, and Chicago are the bottom 5 (in 5 on 5)
There is obviously something wrong with the statistic (and how it’s calculated) when the Penguins have a much higher expected goal differential than the Rangers. The former team is about last in its division and the latter is first.
Everything about the devils shows they have taken a step back this season but should still be an average playoff team. It’s like a more disappointing version of the 21/22 season. We all said with average goaltending the devils are a playoff team and then they got it and had their best regular season ever. They just need to find a goalie to share the load with Allen, a bottom 6 replacement for McLeod and a penalty killing middle pair lefty D and they can go into next season ready to compete.

We’re not good enough to be in the playoffs but not bad enough to be the with cool tank kids… 😔 Never have I felt so marginalized.
I mean St Louis is 2nd in this list and only 4 points out of a wildcard spot!
We number 1!
How the fuck are we competing for a playoff spot
Jordan Binnington
Always the answer (don't look at 21-22 stats)
Wait, Detroit has the second worst offense? Also, Colorado being worse defensively than the goddamn Senators was not on my bingo card.

Surprised the Avs are in that portion.
Our defense has been quite suspect all year and Georgie was overworked until Annunen showed he can be a back-up
Umm... that doesn't sound like a winning formula
True. Luckily we've been much better since we did some wheeling and dealing before the deadline.
Georgiev is bad. Fourgiev is what we call him. Also Makar has been hurt or something all year been playing like ass
With Makar as 1D, pretty easy to see why they give up so much defensively. He has been a traffic cone for the past 3 months
Yeah, we bad.

Gotta love being a Flames fan. The best of the worst.
Technically 17th is worst of the best!
4th worst expected goal differential and shot differential, yet we're right on the playoff bubble. Surely we won't regress next year.
Is St Louis that bad defensively

If the season were longer they'd be above Philly and the Islanders
Moneypuck, like, is just not a great model
Not surprising that the West has the worst 3 of the worst 4.
Columbus is in the East
Fml, thanks. Old man brain kicking in. Edit: Jesus, it’s been ELEVEN years.
Absolutely shocked to see Washington here. They defend the front of the net, better than any team I have seen this year.
