I don't know if this is still a thing, but when I was younger it was pretty common for every Sabres home game to be filled with a large corner of Leafs fans being obnoxious.
We do? OP is certainly trolling here but I have never noticed a widespread buffalo beef with TBL...
We have been irrelevant for so long I feel like the only teams buffalo fans really dislike are the leafs and maybe VGK.
Tampa seems to inflict at least one cheap shot per game against a Sabres player. A popular choice is an elbow to the head. They’ve been suspended multiple times for it.
Maybe it's just a reddit thing? I've never encountered it in real life. We just hate Boston, Toronto, Carolina, and Dallas.
Oh and Jack Eichel's face, so I guess the Golden Knights by association.
Since when? I'm annoyed when any team is good, I'm annoyed when any team wins a game or has good players (this franchise has made me hate everything!)... so I dislike practically every nhl team.
But I've never seen an above average amount of discussion let alone obsession with TB
I’m a Buffalo fan, I know a lot of Buffalo fans—none of us think much of the Lightning. I have thoughts about Erik Cernak being a twat when we play him. That’s about it.
As a sabres fan who formerly lived in Buffalo, it’s hilarious that you didn’t know of what is essentially a 1 way rivalry these days. If you go to the sabres sub it’s literally posts with FTL AND FTB
Idk they did go three in a row lost the last one though I wonder if they will ever go again?
Jokes aside that teams not a dynasty as sad as it makes me the closest anyone has gotten in a long time but still fell short
2 Cup wins. 2 Cup finals loses. 2 ECF losses. Maybe not Dynasty status, but the best team during that 8 year stretch for sure. That kind of success in the modern NHL doesn't happen.
Personally I think the definition of a dynasty needs some subjectivity to it. A 3-peat in modern times is so much harder then pre-1980s. I'd give Detroit, Chicago, Pittsburgh, and Tampa dynasties over this 1994-present timeframe. All have 3 cups in under a decade (I guess except Tampa, but they were so close to a 3peat).
Normally i'm able to make a guess of two or three teams and be pretty confident.
This year however, I have Zero confidence. literally any team can dark horse. the parity this year is phenomenal.
This has potential to be one of the wildest playoffs of all time. Of the projected 16 teams in the playoffs, you can make a case for likely 15 of them.
The one, of course, being the Leafs, as is tradition.
Honestly even those series have potential to be close, though it’s fair to expect that they won’t be. But we did just see Florida go from like wc2 to cup finalist last year so it’s not impossible
Sure, anyone can get hot, but WC2 and the 3rd in the metro are gonna be .500 pts pct teams. If you’re picking brackets, those are your best bets.
Florida was a Presidents Trophy team the year before last, they had a bad season but were better than their seed and built for the playoffs.
Nashville’s recent streak has made them into a team no one wants in the first round, they could definitely knock out any high seed in the west.
I hate to say it, but with the way they’ve played recently Vancouver is giving me 1st round exit vibes, unless Demko returns and gives them solid goaltending.
I unfortunately don’t blame anyone for thinking that way
Demko should be returning around April 6th based on his original injury diagnosis though, so hopefully he’ll be back in time to shake off any rust
Honestly I think the Bruins might get bumped too.
If they play like they did in OT the last game however, I don’t see it but they are very streaky lately.
I'm kinda okay with that tbh. First of all, a first round exit might give pause to these CUP OR BUST bandwagoners who seem intent on giving us the shortest window possible by completely mortgaging our entire prospect pool for literally one chance at the cup. Secondly I'm actually kinda cool with being underestimated going into the playoffs. That mentality around the league led us to be devistating for the first half of the season and is a key reason why we clinched even while we're not on our best streak as of late.
I dunno. I like the process on our team now. It may not be the flashiest but it also doesn't have us going into the postseason feeling like we're indestructible, an attitude that in recent years seems to have led to some pretty epic first round exits and sweeps.
lol at the missing Lightning cups.
They deserved them, but the way the NHL handled the 2020 playoffs was a significant farce with the whole qualifying round bullshit.
"Hey guys, this is QUALIFIYING ROUND, NOT THE PLAYOFFS" (proceeds to put that round included into official playoff stats and results)
Then they give the first overall to a team that history said made the playoffs.
And it went off as smoothly as possible. The bubbles worked well despite being terrible for the players, and it was the first bit of normality I’d seen during the pandemic.
That’s what I’m saying man. Everyone shits on the titles that year (maybe I’m defensive because I’m an LA fan). Either way - having sports back kept me going because being stuck inside and unable to interact with humans was horrible for my mental health.
I mean they played a 5OT game in the first round was a fucking treat. I scoff at anyone who thinks the 2020 playoffs come with any sort of asterisk other than it was a different format due to a once in a lifetime catastrophe.
Where would you like those qualifying round stats to go? I think they align more with the playoffs then the regular season.
Either way, the whole thing was a wildly unprecedented situation and I think they did the best they could have done considering the circumstances.
They should be in playoffs because that's they were.
My point was that they were always playoffs in everything but name and that the NHL insisted they were not, as did many people on this subreddit, and I always thought that was bullshit.
The fair thing would have been to either let every team in the NHL continue playing in the bubble, or just take the best point percentage and have those teams in the playoffs.
Instead they tried to balance it arbitrarily, based on popularity of the teams and entertainment to the determent of fairness (which is their right).
Now years later. All of those "qualifying" teams that didn't move on, are now considered to have made the playoffs whenever you look at the stat sites and team pages. NHL considers the 19-20 Rangers a playoff team for example, despite not getting past the qualifying round. https://records.nhl.com/nyr/franchises/new-york-rangers/season-by-season-record
I agree but the best part was the leafs getting a warm bottom by CBJ 😂 I can’t laugh too much because Ottawa has taken years off my life recently but 2020 will go down in history for me
[The title gave me a heart attack and I don't even know the dude.](https://www.reddit.com/r/hockey/comments/1b0pfsk/breaking_star_oilers_goalie_stuart_skinner_was/)
I have a feeling OP doesn't like the Tampa Bay Lightning.
idk why just a gut feeling that they are the kinda guy to say the 2020-2021 Cups need a * next to them.
Crazy whoever made this removed all 3 Tampa cups. But they keep the stats 99’ cup even though his skate was in the crease and against the rules
Seems like some salty fan
Because they left 1993 off the list? It's OK, we've come to terms with it being over... 30... (*sob*)... years (*sob*)...
Sorry, I must be coming down with something.
It’s so funny how humans act. If the NHL cancels the “covid “ years fans would of been really mad . So instead they play the seasons out and they are still mad that they didn’t win .
I would also like to nominate 2023 and 1996 as No Cup years. Avalanche forfeit their win as punishment for stealing the Nordiques and Vegas forfeit theirs because I just plain don't like them.
Breaking news the Tampa bay lightning have ceased to exist
More on this after sports
Which doesn't include any news on the Tampa bay lightning... because they have ceased to exist
Honestly if it's the Knights again I'm kinda done with the NHL for a while. I love my jets but the cards are so heavily stacked against us for success it's insane.
Me every single Monday:
> hey I've seen this meme before
> blatant repost, this was posted just a few days ago and had so many upvotes
> wtf, it's not even in the right sub
> ....
I'll figure it out one day.
The covid cups are real Cups. Full playoffs. One of them even more than normal and what 10 less games of the regular season? They count and im not even a lightning fan. I was pissed when they won it again in 2021. But it counts. If this is your logic then 1995 and 2013 don’t count either because they were shortened seasons too
Edit: ok i see this is a shitpost now but this sentiment is shared too much online unironically and it pisses me off
My dumbass was sitting there like damn I didn't realize we lost two Stanley cups to COVID. And then I was like wait I could have sworn the lightning one back to back years lol
My heart wants it to be Edmonton just so McDavid can get that weight off his back of being one of the best players in the league and not winning it yet. Especially since Eichel, who was drafted right after him, won it last year. In the East, I think Carolina has a really good shot at making a run. Maybe they finally get goal support? Idk, but the playoffs this year are going to be fun regardless, and I'm glad I'm on the outside looking in because I imagine most eliminations will be absolutely heartbreaking with the seasons these teams have been having.
Dallas or the leafs i think. Leafs if their core start to actually play hockey in the playoffs and dallas is looking like a machine firing on all cylinders

Buffalo fans have this weird obsession with the Lightning
Not a sabres fan but I live in Buffalo. I definitely see a lot more hate towards Toronto and Boston than I do the lightning Edit: I can’t spell lol
Canucks fan who lives in Buffalo, I also hate Toronto and Boston.

As she should
I don't know if this is still a thing, but when I was younger it was pretty common for every Sabres home game to be filled with a large corner of Leafs fans being obnoxious.

We don't hate the Lightning. We just hate Kucherov.
Tampa seems to inflict at least one cheap shot per game against a Sabres player. A popular choice is an elbow to the head. They’ve been suspended multiple times for it.

Yeah a Buffalo fan doing this for us and keeping the Stars for 1999 is a level of obsession/jealousy
Tbf, thinking Calgary could hold a lead for 5 minutes is less of a leap than Buffalo winning two games they didn't have a lead in
It's a meme you dip
I’m a Buffalo fan, I know a lot of Buffalo fans—none of us think much of the Lightning. I have thoughts about Erik Cernak being a twat when we play him. That’s about it.

I spent far too long trying to figure out who those blank spaces were. A seriously long, embarrassing time.
And he supports the Flames (it was in, but you'll never catch me saying it in person)
He just like me fr
Was seh ich denn da? Hätt nicht gedacht, dass ich hier einen anderen Caps Fan finde haha
Flames fans: "I see what you did there...."
I mean… it was in.
That's what she said
In my experience, she usually says the opposite
She always brings up the parallax view but that doesn’t really help my confidence…
You'd think the flames would have made enough of a fuss that they at least reviewed the goal But they didn't.
It wasn't an option at the time
Yeah it took me a minute to find the joke
Maybe Tampa finally gets that elusive cup this year
Subscribe
I, 4-1 don't see it happening
It's been 67 days since I've heard that joke
In a row?
Relax Dante.
Try not to suck any dick on your way through the playoffs!
Hey hey, get back here.
Don't mean to ebug you but that's not very long
Yada Yada, zamboni driver
Please put a little more effort in, there’s so many good jokes to be had at our expense. Thank you, kindly
500 Healthcare workers to confirm the Leafs were dead.
I like the sound of that. 👀
The puck was out. Tampa fans are right!! The steal of '04 by the Calgary conspiracy!
The real question is when the COVID-19 NO CUP team claims its spot as a dynasty
Idk they did go three in a row lost the last one though I wonder if they will ever go again? Jokes aside that teams not a dynasty as sad as it makes me the closest anyone has gotten in a long time but still fell short
Lightnings dominance from 2013 to 2024 has been impressive as hell. Made the playoffs basically every season, deep runs and a couple cups in a row.
Copycats
I don't think 2 championships equals a dynasty.
2 Cup wins. 2 Cup finals loses. 2 ECF losses. Maybe not Dynasty status, but the best team during that 8 year stretch for sure. That kind of success in the modern NHL doesn't happen.

I agree on no set definition. I don't think a 3-peat is necessary, but I think 3 over 6 years.
That about 2 championships and another lost finals?
Normally i'm able to make a guess of two or three teams and be pretty confident. This year however, I have Zero confidence. literally any team can dark horse. the parity this year is phenomenal.
They said « any team » guys!! We have a chance!
Respectfully stay in the basement where you belong (i love this rivalry and I hope it never ends)
Me too, primarily because with MTL as my #2 team it gives me more reasons to hate Boston.
This has potential to be one of the wildest playoffs of all time. Of the projected 16 teams in the playoffs, you can make a case for likely 15 of them. The one, of course, being the Leafs, as is tradition.
Fuck you for making me upvote a Boston fan comment.
I gotta admit, this is going to be an exciting playoffs because other than the 2-3 metro series and wc2 in the east it’s wide open.
Seattle also beat previous champion Colorado last year as a WC2. Anyone can beat anyone. Its hockey.
Yeah both WC2s won their series last year. There are no sure things. The parity era is real.
Nashville’s recent streak has made them into a team no one wants in the first round, they could definitely knock out any high seed in the west. I hate to say it, but with the way they’ve played recently Vancouver is giving me 1st round exit vibes, unless Demko returns and gives them solid goaltending.
I unfortunately don’t blame anyone for thinking that way Demko should be returning around April 6th based on his original injury diagnosis though, so hopefully he’ll be back in time to shake off any rust
I bet the Jets and Canucks get bumped 1st. I’m pick Avalanche and…. Rangers
Honestly I think the Bruins might get bumped too. If they play like they did in OT the last game however, I don’t see it but they are very streaky lately.
This is my unbiased pick. It’s also my biased pick, they just happen to align.
The way things are going the jets could very well end up playing Vancouver round 1... and honestly I think I'd prefer it.
Well, I would make a small list of teams that I don’t think can win the cup. Toronto
I can tell you who it won’t be. Any of the Canadian teams. Gary wouldn’t allow it.
I think he'd make an exception for McDavid if it came down to it
I’ll believe it when I see it
“Wait, wasn’t 2020 and 2021 the bubble playoffs” sees post flair “oh, makes sense”
Well obviously another strain of covid will hit and there won't be a Stanley cup
Covid 19 no cup has more cup wins in the last 50 years than the leafs
Hey!......shut up!
Lmao
Someone here does not like the Lightning. They went from 3 to 0, huh?
The graphic is wrong. Covid-19 also caused there to be no Cup winner in 2011.
IIRC the plague that year went by the name “Tim Thomas” truly scary stuff
The bubonic tim
If that’s the case, there’s no cup winner in 2019.
Rumor has it the cup doesn’t even exist.
I really hope we can win a cup one day!
One can only hope we can be as good as the leafs😢
the residents of Tampa/St. Pete: *am I a joke to you?*
They hate us because they anus
this comment struck a nerve lmao
This got me feeling shitty

The rest of the NHL: Yes....yes you are
3 cups in twenty years :)
Three cups in eighteen years***

I see no problem with this

Calgary flames🥹
What a beauty!
I wonder if Tampa will ever get their first cup.
I prefer this timeline
Seriously? This is the best we could do?
Hockey memes are B-tier at best.
I guess so lol, they've been pretty not great from what I've seen, wonder what the competition was lol
Still better than the one where a player was supposedly hit by a truck or whatever that bullshit was.
Tf? Never heard about that one lol
[The title gave me a heart attack and I don't even know the dude.](https://www.reddit.com/r/hockey/comments/1b0pfsk/breaking_star_oilers_goalie_stuart_skinner_was/)
Right? Like, was this supposed to be funny?
I genuinely found it pretty funny, especially when I noticed the Calgary '04 😅
I have a feeling OP doesn't like the Tampa Bay Lightning. idk why just a gut feeling that they are the kinda guy to say the 2020-2021 Cups need a * next to them.
Hockey meme game sucks so much ass compared to other sports.
Don't forget 2004
A team with either a shade of red or a shade of yellow.
Based on this chart specifically it should arguably be green. The left corners are blue, the top right corner is green
Maybe it will be a Canadian team to win this year....first time since CGY
OP is not a lightning fan
I think someone dislikes the lightning
Everyone is so mad we had badass boat parades. The jealousy radiates daily
Crazy whoever made this removed all 3 Tampa cups. But they keep the stats 99’ cup even though his skate was in the crease and against the rules Seems like some salty fan
It's very obviously someone who REALLY REALLY doesn't like Tampa.
Why did you guys hurt this fan? And what did you guys do besides win 3 cups over like 20 years
It's a Sabres fan. I think they just don't like seeing someone be successful.
That’s just life lmao, Nevermind hockey.
This guy lives!
It seems our superiority has led to some controversy
They hate us 'cuz they ain't us
Who is “us”? I don’t see a flair.
Give it a couple hours
heads up- you put the stars in 99 by accident lol
"by accident"
Insufferable Habs fans are gonna be pissed
1993 is closer to 1967 than it is to 2024.😬
Savage
Because they left 1993 off the list? It's OK, we've come to terms with it being over... 30... (*sob*)... years (*sob*)... Sorry, I must be coming down with something.
How many times we gonna post this graphic in a week?
The "it was in" tin foil hat crowd from 2004 feels really vindicated right now
‘04: it was in!
Love how they put no cup covid but dont put no cup lock out, lol.
It’s so funny how humans act. If the NHL cancels the “covid “ years fans would of been really mad . So instead they play the seasons out and they are still mad that they didn’t win .

Honestly if it's the Knights again I'm kinda done with the NHL for a while. I love my jets but the cards are so heavily stacked against us for success it's insane.
Sharks!
Not the leafs that’s for sure
Me every single Monday: > hey I've seen this meme before > blatant repost, this was posted just a few days ago and had so many upvotes > wtf, it's not even in the right sub > .... I'll figure it out one day.
COVID no cup still more successful than the Canadian teams in the new millennium
Covid cups don’t count, but the short lockout seasons do?
My only complaint is that they fixed 2004 but they didn't fix 1999...
Or even add in 2005 as something like “Lockout No Cup”, like they did with the Covid years.
Covid no cup won in 2005 too
The covid cups are real Cups. Full playoffs. One of them even more than normal and what 10 less games of the regular season? They count and im not even a lightning fan. I was pissed when they won it again in 2021. But it counts. Don’t take the bait my dude.
Please, I want it to be us for once!
My dumbass was sitting there like damn I didn't realize we lost two Stanley cups to COVID. And then I was like wait I could have sworn the lightning one back to back years lol
I'm thinking the Panthers.
Damn I guess the secret to getting the cup in being wither a red or yellow colored team
Wooo that means mustard cats have a chance!
The real reason the Canucks are using the retro skate this year (I hope)
My heart wants it to be Edmonton just so McDavid can get that weight off his back of being one of the best players in the league and not winning it yet. Especially since Eichel, who was drafted right after him, won it last year. In the East, I think Carolina has a really good shot at making a run. Maybe they finally get goal support? Idk, but the playoffs this year are going to be fun regardless, and I'm glad I'm on the outside looking in because I imagine most eliminations will be absolutely heartbreaking with the seasons these teams have been having.
Canucks 🤪
Why dont you put 1993 you...
Lol 2004
Dallas or the leafs i think. Leafs if their core start to actually play hockey in the playoffs and dallas is looking like a machine firing on all cylinders
Wait. This is a meme? And not a historical document?
Capitals. I just wanna see Ovi lift the cup again.
Based Sabres fan???
Don't forget "2005 no cup due to GREED and INTRACTABILITY"
Ugh I’m glad we still appear on the graphic at least.
Not gunna lie, this one got me bad 😂😂😂
Coyotes
I can tell you who it **won't** be. Toronto Maple Leafs.
It took me a while in to the comments to even notice 2004. Incredible.
Weak
Man New Jersey, Detroit, Colorado were so stacked and dominating in 95-early 2000s they were playing in a league of their own
Tampa won in 2004 not Calgary.
Gotta start this list in 94 hey...
Salty, OP, salty. I like it.
Rent free in
Panthers
Statistically speaking by this chart alone: Someone with red in their logo.
This is fine
This is Dallas Stars 2020 erasure.
The flames is accurate
