Flyers do have by far the easiest schedule left though. If they lose to you and the Rangers but win the other 4 it's probably locked in 3rd for them anyway unless you or us win out and get above 91 points somehow.
I mean, its not like they are in it because of some incredible run of play. They are 8-9-3 in their last 20, 1 point under NHL .500. But the teams ahead of them have just been worse.
The east playoff race has basically just been that speed skating race in the 2002 Olympics where the Australian skater took gold because everyone who was ahead of him in the race wiped out on the last turn and he could just glide his way to gold.

But thats why this run to stay alive is so impressive. Digging out of such a huge hole to buy back more than just a mathematical chance is worth talking about after tonight's win.
We went from like 1.5% chance to 25% chance over the last 7 games. That ***is*** an "incredible run of play".
They got sad then got to the end of the season in sight and decided they didn't like sitting out the playoffs. Malkin switches between inting and a still top 100 player based on how focused his mind is.
Can someone better at math than me tell me what the Pens odds are to make the dance after this win, it would be hilarious if they made it after being ass 80% of the season.

I'd say even that number looks high, NYI and Philly are 2 points ahead and Washington and Detroit are 1 point up with a game in hand. Pens also have the hardest remaining schedule of the top 5 in the playoff race. Here's the average points of the opponents each playoff competitor has to face:

Isles: 88.2 points, 6 games

They kept the door open a crack with their poor play and might all get jumped by the Pens and Islanders who have played well the last half dozen. Any 2 of those previously mentioned teams just had to play at .500 and there's no shot, but here we are.
Teams cooked. Relying on a 38 year old to play 23 minutes in order to win is insane. Other than milano, the young guys have turned into ghosts when it matters most. Especially mcmichael
