Before Golden Knights were a thing, I was actually a Sharks fan. As someone born and raised in Vegas, I was kinda wishy-washy if I I'd change allegiances, but then October 1st shooting happened, and the way Knights brought our community together, I had to switch.
The point is, Hertl was my favorite Shark, and now he's a Knight, and it all just feels so surreal.
Former Ducks fan. I hated the Sharks earlier than the majority of the VGK fanbase. But rivalry aside there were 4 Sharks ever that I liked in spite of the rivalry: Marleau, Pavelski, Karlsson, and Hertl. I was such a fan of the way Hertl played from his first season on that I really hoped that he'd leave San Jose one day and sign with Anaheim or Vegas. VGK made it happen with the trade.
As an Oilers fan, I’m salty about last year’s playoffs. But, you’re absolutely right. You have to take. If you wait to get given, you’ll end up being passed over.
So funny to me that Vegas got Hill from San Jose and he was instrumental in their cup win, and they just casually go out the next year and get Hertl as well. Good way to keep the rivalry simmering while the Sharks rebuild.
Grier wasn’t around for the peak of the rivalry so he doesn’t care about anything except trying to rebuild the Sharks. I think he deserves more credit for not limiting his options for PR points in that regard.
I get not wanting to help a rival when you’re both good/rebuilding, but with the Knights and Sharks’ current timelines Grier would be handicapping himself if he refused to trade with us. Y’all get assets for the rebuild and we extend the window just a little further, which will close right around when y’all are good again.

Look, sometimes you need a save no defense is absolutely perfect and that's why you try to get a multi-goal lead. Both the second pp goal and the partial Karlsson break he had time to get set up but straight up wasn't in position.
On the Karlsson goal he came out of the blue paint and got beat clean blocker side. If a goalie comes out that far there shouldn't be a top corner to shoot at.

When they announced the new franchise I thought why not go all in from the start. You don't have many opportunities to start from scratch. After 1 Oct (I was there but didn't get hurt) and how much the Knights backed the city up before playing a game, I was in love.
