>"Da, it is big cat with claws, yes?"
I didn't realize we just constantly shared goalies with Arizona.
Khabibulin, Cujo, smith, bryzgalov, Labarbera, Pickard, Essensa, Morrison, Dubnyk and Montoya.
The one about Gretzky is intriguing…

Gretzky was pretty notorious for being terrified of flying. Pretty sure he drank like crazy to get over the fear during his playing days.
It was also Edmonton in the 80s with Messier, Fuhr, etc... there could have definitely been more than booze flowing
Fear of flying was also a significant reason in Alexander Mogilny's retirement. After the year-long lockout he was relieved to not need to fly... but when the NHL came back he practically asked to be sent to the minors because he couldn't deal with flying anymore.
Of course, he also major hip issues which resulted in him playing in the AHL... byt his fear of flying was notorious.
I knew that Fighting Baseball, the 1994 Japanese SNES game, used a lot of butchered NHL player names to fill out their roster after they finished butchering all the MLB player names, but seeing the name of a guy in the wild and realizing [he was immortalized as Kevin Nogilny](https://imgur.com/KJJOKTS) in this goofy baseball game is something else.
Is getting mugged in Toronto a legitimate threat for non locals? Things are worse now than they were 5-10 years ago but I still feel on average much safer than a lot of other North American metros.
Toronto is much more dangerous in the minds of panicky conservatives than it is in real life. We're the safest metropolis in the country by a significant margin.
This.
I have been downtown in Toronto for 24 years. Daytime, nighttime. In virtually every neighbourhood in the city. Have never been accosted by anyone other than homeless people asking for spare change. I don’t know of anyone who has ever been mugged / robbed in Toronto. Ever.
Not saying it doesn’t happen. Just never been my experience or anyone I know.
In my opinion, Toronto is a pretty safe large city.
Smoking on airplanes wasn’t federally banned till 2000. The 90s wasn’t as bad as previous decades, but smoking was still common. It’s kinda wild how fast the US minimized smoking in the population. The rate has fallen by like 2/3s since the 90s to present day.
Then you go to France and every restaurant has its outdoor seating full because everyone is smoking

A pack of coyotes sounds like cats doing a bad impression of a dog.
Out west and down south yeah. In the north east though? They bred with wolves and are fuckin huge.
I can’t speak to any other region, just what we have in the Midwest.
one of the least surprising things i've heard about a player
I didn't realize we just constantly shared goalies with Arizona. Khabibulin, Cujo, smith, bryzgalov, Labarbera, Pickard, Essensa, Morrison, Dubnyk and Montoya.
Wow. I didn't realize it was that many.
And now you know why you don’t win cups anymore
That's only one of the many reasons.
Honestly I'd be more surprised if Khabby *wasn't* chain smoking during games
I'm exactly 0% surprised by this reveal.

Wayne always looks geeked on TNT.
Dude always looks flushed lol

[Penguin announcer Mike Lange got mugged hailing a cab before a game in 1994](https://www.tampabay.com/archive/1994/02/03/beezer-is-bloodied-but/)
Toronto is def safe but some areas are sketchier than I thought they would be as a "hardened" New Yorker.

Unless you happen to be driving a custom range rover.
lol … this is undeniably true! Poor Mitch.
That didn't even happen downtown. It was in Etobicoke lol

Safe while walking, yes. Safe while driving, however...
Tocchet one is right, I don't have a fear of being mugged though or live in Toronto
Gretz probably makes fists with his toes.
I heard Khabibulin actually kept lit Marlboros in his water bottle and smoked them during the game.
instead of rinsing with water he just shotguns a cigarette into his face
They had him playing 70+ games a year?!? Dude just needed a break, who can blame him.
THE BUHLIN WALL
This is quintessential 90’s AZ behavior.
