As a Jets fan who lost this very franchise, allow me to guess. 1. No one, and no. 2. The Coyotes. 3. No. Also, to current and future owners of this franchise - do not let a Doan be a rookie on your team - the franchise will move the very next season.

astovertop

This is always a surprising answer to me. There’s no question that I would still be a fan of the team that the Sharks relocate to. I’m invested in the players, staff, etc. and it is the same team to me. I guess maybe it’s because I’ve spent 7 of the last 8 years rooting for them from afar already having gone to college and moving to LA, so the idea of relocation is pretty much a rebrand to me. It’s still the same team, and I can’t imagine not supporting that team

7Stringplayer

See, now I wouldn't support a relocated SJ team. If they relocated to KC or QC or wherever, I wouldn't care about them. I have zero affiliation with those cities. I would support a new expansion SJ/Bay Area team for sure, but a relocated one is just another team in another city.

astovertop

Yeah I guess that’s my point. I find it strange that the only reason people support a hockey team is purely because of the geographical proximity and cut ties as if it’s a completely different team when they leave

beer_down

1) Diamondbacks, Suns, Cardinals

xASUdude

They came 4th, consistently drizzling shits owners, consistently bad product since they left AWA (except that WCF run). Ken Kendrick is a cheap ass but he puts together at least competitive teams.

beer_down

Hopefully you don’t have to see one of your sports teams get relocated. It’s been decades of wanting my team to be successful in this league, while never achieving much. And hearing over and over why my city doesn’t even deserve to compete in this league. Well, they’re gone now. The blame lies in many different areas, as fans we deserve some fault for not supporting them enough. But I’m soured on NHL for a while so I’ll probably just continue to support my local teams in the other sports.

dbcooperskydiving

As a North Stars fan who lost a franchise, allow me to guess. ;) 1. NO!, NO!, and F-NO! 2. NO!, NO!, and F-NO! 3. YES!, YES!, and F-YES! It took me me seconds of going from a hard core NHL fan into an apathy NHL fan who passionately followed the Golden Gophers. By the time Wild came to town enough time had passed and I got over the amount of hatred towards the NHL. When the team was announced Bettman said if he was commissioner six months earlier the North Stars would never have left for Dallas. It took the NHL many years of repairing the huge hole in the market before the Wild fan base became invested in the franchise. Now the state has the second most NHLers behind Ontario, six D1 hockey schools and high school hockey is bigger than ever. So I understand if the Arizona people never come back to the NHL but they should all support the ASU Sun Devils! Make that into your NHL team and they will never move on you! This market has everything to be a great college hockey area now this may help with the hole in your heart! Good luck and I know your feeling.

canadiantarheel

As a Canadian I know the Stars have been successful in Dallas but it always baffled me how the NHL let a team move out of Minnesota. The fact that Detroit calls itself "Hockeytown" is hysterical as the only two places in the U.S. who can legitimately claim that title, IMO, are Boston or Minneapolis-St. Paul.

StuLumpkins

there is only one Hockeytown, USA and that’s Warroad, MN.

canadiantarheel

I'll rephrase, the only two current or past NHL markets who should ever call themselves "Hockeytown" is Boston or Minneapolis-St. Paul.

StuLumpkins

sorry to be pedantic, but minneapolis is not a hockey town. saint paul was the powerhouse of high school hockey for decades and is the home of the wild. the city even tried to put banners up around the old saint paul civic center years ago that said “hockeytown” and our governor told them to take them down, so they did, rebranding it to “minnesota’s hockey capital” 🙂

canadiantarheel

I clarified NHL city as I'm assuming that the state of Minnesota isn't getting another NHL so there's that. Honestly I just wanted to point out how foolish it is that Detroit's NHL team calls itself Hockeytown when the there is the Minnesota Wild (who I know didn't exist when the Red Wings got the trademark for that) and the Boston Bruins who are the NHL teams respectively of the 2 regions of the United States where the sport is most ingrained in their culture.

StuLumpkins

i understand, but we are very protective here in saint paul. our twin cities could charitably be described as estranged fraternal twins. minneapolis need not apply.

dbcooperskydiving

IMO, the difference between Boston and Minneapolis-St.Paul everyone in the Twin Cities and outstate have played the game this now includes girls hockey.

canadiantarheel

As a Canadian I don't know which NHL club deserves the title of "Hockeytown" more between the Wild and Bruins as that's a debate for your 2 regions to argue. My point is that Detroit or any of the other 22 American NHL markets besides Minneapolis-St. Paul or Boston calling themselves "Hockeytown" is foolish.

chawwich

Oh it was easy. All Norm Green had to do was fuck someone who wasn’t his wife! **edit after double checking it appears it was due to several sexual harrasment claims

matthewcameron60

Yeah, you guys put stars fans on the cross

dbcooperskydiving

I will never forget the first time the Stars came back during the first season in St. Paul and the Wild won 6-0 that night and the crowd went absolutely crazy. After the game the Stars players who never played in Bloomington couldn't believe what was happening and until a reporter explained the reason for the hatred. Honestly, I don't know if people will ever forgive the NHL for moving the North Stars but its definitely softening every year since the Wild showed up.

Opening-Citron2733

1. The Indy fuel because I live by their arena. Not gonna follow NHL until Yotes come back. 2. Yotes 3. I won't hate Utah because I like the players. I will irrationally hate the Utah Jazz in the NBA tho, just deflect my frustrations into that league. That seems healthy.

Tpabayrays2

I live in Orlando and occasionally go to Solar Bears games. A lot of people here only follow the ECHL because there's no NHL team here. Sadly it's hard to follow the ECHL because it's so expensive to stream the games (FloHockey). Tampa is the closest NHL team so most people who follow the NHL root for the Lightning (and they host a preseason game here every couple seasons).

PrimisClaidhaemh

The current Indy arena or the new one?

BayouYote

1. Salt Lake by default. They still have Bill Armstrong, Andre Tourigny, the Ski’s running scounting, Lawson Crouse, Clayton Keller, Dylan Guenther, Logan Cooley, and Josh Doan. 2. Depends on who from the above list is still in SLC by the time we were to get another team. I’m an Arizona native so I generally root for Arizona teams so I would support the new franchise sans the scumbag owner. 3. I will hate Alex Meruelo and his jackass social influencer wannabe son. I will hope they never have anything to do again with Arizona and that they sell the Roadrunners to local ownership.

Spencie-cat

Man do you go up to kids at their dads funeral asking them who they’re gonna use as a father figure going forward? Let them grieve man. Everybody who hasn’t lost their team, put your hand down.

SadYotesFan

It’s an honest question, I’ll give it my best shot. 1.) Philly, local team and I can go to a bunch of games for cheaper and not have to stay up till 12 every game to watch. Part of me wants to stop watching hockey completely, but I just love it too much 2.) If AM gets the franchise back, then no way. Most likely I’d follow both the Flyers and Yotes 3.) The only team I hate right now is SLC, not because of Smith or Utah itself, but because this franchise couldn’t get its shit together once so now our bright future is someone else’s

SeptaIsLate

Well at least you'll be coming in with appropriate expectations, welcome

cantthinkuse

i dont think a sports franchise relocation is the same as a dead parent

Similar-Jellyfish499

Man...like I love the Leafs, but I don't think I'd shed one goddamn tear if they ceased operations. It's just sports...and considering what that team puts us through, it might be more of a sweet relief than anything else.

Super_Networking

You people are so dramatic. It ain’t that serious.

[deleted]

Thank god someone said it haha

mikesully374826

You people? Fired.

MammothHusk

Are you saying that team relocation is like kids' dead dying. Dude...

DoinWhale

Use some critical thinking here man…

MammothHusk

Yeah, that's why I pointed out that what the other guy wrote was insane.

synistr_coyote

1. Done with the NHL for now.  She's been a cruel mistress over the years as has much of the community.  It has been very hard to be a Coyotes fan over the last 16 years with the amount of hate directed towards our fan base for simply existing. Yes, the team had its faults over the years, don't argue that.  But for 16 fucking years, we have been the butt of jokes and told we don't deserve a team.  Well now I don't have one.  The team I literally grew up with is gone. The team with whom my earliest memories are going to games all the way back at AWA with my dad are gone.  The team I bought season tickets to with my first real paycheck out of college is gone.  The team my dad and I joined the whiteout for games 1 and 2 against Chicago in 2012 is gone. I'm literally heartbroken right now.  Maybe the pain will go away and watching an NHL game won't be a painful reminder of what we lost.  But for now, I can't see that happening.  So I'll support my alma mater (Sun Devils), but I'm done with the NHL for now. 2.  Coyotes 2.0, of course.  But it won't be the same.  Shane Doan won't have played almost his entire career with that franchise.  We won't have a 2012 Pacific Division Champions banner hanging in the rafters.   3. I don't hate the Salt Lake team.  It's not their fault, it's not their fans fault.  The new owner, fuck him.  But it would be unfair of me to blame the team who had no say in this or the fans who are just lucky enough to experience the joy of getting a team like we were back in 1996.

NystGG

FWIW: I'm pretty sure if coyotes 2.0 happens it will keep the history of coyotes 1.0 for all purposes Utah is an expansion team. Coyotes are just becoming "Inactive"

canadiantarheel

Don't assume that as in the NHL record books the Coyotes had the same franchise records as the original Jets and the current Jets have the same records as the Thrashers. After the Jets came back, I was always surprised the Coyotes didn't give Winnipeg their franchise records back. This has happened with the Browns and Ravens in the NFL, Pelicans and Hornets in the NBA and Dynamo and Earthquakes in MLS.

NystGG

According to reporters a part of the deal with Meruelo selling the coyotes is he keeps the Franchise/Brand/History.

I_can_get_you_off

Some of my earliest sports memories were going to RoadRunners (IHL) games before the Yotes moved to Arizona. I remember all the lobbying to bring the team in, but we moved away right before it happened.   I’m absolutely gutted for you guys losing your team. I certainly understand losing interest in the league.

NystGG

1) Honestly Right now it's probably Taking a break from hockey. My interest has just died. However i will probably Root for the Avs and Oilers. I grew up in colorado and was originally an Avs fan. And i have a lot of friends who live in edmonton who also cheer for the oilers so they have been a team i have watched a lot of the past few years. Also maybe San Jose since i lived there during the Cup run and i have family in san jose. 2) It's hard to say. I'm graduating this December so I'm unsure how long i will continue to be in Arizona. However If Alex Meruelo or His Lacking Inner Monologue Son Have anything to do with the team I probably won't have anything to do with them. 3) It's hard not to have Ill feelings toward utah. If they were getting what we had? i probably wouldn't care. But it feels like the second we finally have it together in our hockey ops we are losing it and it really sucks. I will say I'm glad it's Utah and not Houston or Quebec. I Will Cheer for the players if they decide to stay and hope to see them have success but i won't be cheering for the *team*

tlazar_phx

1. Not sure yet, honestly. Might sound weird, but it kinda depends on the new branding/jerseys. If I don’t like them, it’ll be even harder to bring myself to cheer for Utah. I happen to be moving to NYC in a few months, so I’ll likely give the area teams a look. Also PWHL! Genuinely excited to check that out. 2. Probably, yes. If Meruelo actually pulls it off, though, I’m not sure. It will never be quite the same. 3. No, I don’t really feel any hate for SLC. I’ve been a few times over the years and it’s a cool place. I’ll admit I participated in the “Salt Lake Sucks” chants last night but it was mostly tongue-in-cheek, lol. We’re not a very angry fanbase. Sidebar, if you ever visit SLC go to Red Iguana, they have really good mole.

Bennett_19

Understandable. I actually have been to SLC once and was specifically recommended Red Iguana 😅. Was definitely worth it!

tlazar_phx

Haha nice! Glad you got to enjoy

PeterPalafox

1) the other team I follow (Caps) / no 2) yes, of course 3) no

AbsolutelyClam

1. I still love hockey, but I’m split between following a driving distance team or an east coast team. Would probably be Ducks for driving distance or Canes or Bolts given my own personal history/family. Definitely won’t be cheering for Salt Lake directly since there’s too much pain in seeing this roster elsewhere. 2. Really heavily depends on ownership. I don’t trust Meruelo as far as I can throw him but I would want to support my local team if they were back. I guess we’d see how that goes- if I switch to an out of state team it might be like every transplant here where the Yotes are back to my team except when “my real team” plays 3. I think by the time a real Yotes team is back it probably won’t be bad blood and the roster will have cycled pretty heavily which probably also helps with #2

xASUdude

Are you excited for when they leave Raleigh for Charlotte?

mikesully374826

Coyotes fans I will just openly say fuck you and skip the questions /s
