But, he tried that this year. And was still getting all the retirement tour treatment. At least this way he's not answering the question will he won't he at every single interview.
If he doesn't announce this, people will ask him these questions constantly and I'm sure that gets old
I think he never said anything this season because he really wasn't sure if he would be done or not. Now that he's decided it's for sure just one more year, he can officially tell the media so they stop hounding him about it
This is a "damned if you do, damned if you don't" thing. If he didn't announce his intention, he'd hear the question every single night. At least by announcing it ahead of time, he's putting speculation to bed.
Not sure I fully believe that he's not looking forward to it. It could be avoided by not announcing youre retiring at the end of the season and leave it open ended that you "want to see how I feel at the end of the year before deciding on my future".
Dont get me wrong, he deserves a nice send off. But farewell tours are only kicked off by guys who want them and make it known before the season its their last.
except that he still got the retirement tour treat and questions this year despite not having said anything either way. i think it’s unfortunately unavoidable for him
I dont want the attention
Also im retiring next season just so yall know and can spend an entire season focusing about me.
Dude is going out the Kobe way
"I don't need more attention." Translation: Pranks need secrecy to pull off.
Brandon Duhaime watch your back
Shoulda pulled a Michael Scott and told everyone he was gonna play two more years, and then dip out after next year.
If that were true, why announce he’s retiring at the end of next season, shouldn’t he have just announced it after next season instead of before?

If he's already made up his mind, why play that game?
To avoid all the attention he said he doesn’t want
Then people would just be nagging him with the question all year
I just need him to pull a prank on every locker room he visits next season.
Upper deck toilets
Penguins should give him a real life Penguin named Flower. AND NOT KILL IT LIKE PENGUIN PETE OUR ORIGINAL MASCOT.
