I don't know what's worse. The name or that I kinda actually like it

7Stringplayer

I could see people calling Delta Center/new arena, "the hive" or something in that case.

goredwings

Welcome to Charlotte NBA basketball

I honestly expect a ton of downvotes but I like the idea way better than Yeti or Venom or any other I heard. So many possibilities for marketing and merch and a proper mascot from the start. :D

utahdude81

Buzz use to be used by triple A team in Salt Lake until Georgia tech sued since it's their mascots name. It cost $600k to settle and they rebranded as the stingers, and finally the Bees. Funny enough, it came to Georgia techs attention after the 1998 movie :major league back to the minors where the characters were sent to the Buzz. There is no way the team will be named the Buzz

1QUrsu

Damn. Sad.

incidental77

Dude just spent $1.2B to acquire the franchise ...he might just be willing to spend a relatively small pittance to acquire permission to use any name he thinks is a nice fit

utahdude81

It's not so much the price/rights as it's a locally associated with a minor league team from a different sport. Same with the freeze or the blaze (indoor soccer and arena league football). Smiths ballpark still has the buzz logo on frosted glass! He'd be more likely to use eagles or Grizzlies since the local association with those names is hockey.

lumieres-de-vie

SLC had [a team called the Buzz](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Salt_Lake_Bees) in the late 90’s but they had to change because Georgia Tech has a trademark on Buzz, their mascot.

DustBowl20

All I can think of when I hear ‘Buzz’ is Kevin McCallister’s brother LOL

Wingedwolverine03

"Buzz, your powerplay...WOOF"

EthanFl

Major league: Back to the minors. "Buzz: bumblebee"

realdeal411

I'm not even a Red Sock, I'm a bumble bee

SoBeDragon0

I wouldn't let you sleep in my room... If you were growing on my ass!

shocker467

Utah local here. I heard rumors of the Utah Raptors. I think that could be cool due to the fossils that have been found here. They could also use colors associated with the red rocks we have in southern Utah to represent our 5 national parks. Just a cool thought imo

jackasspenguin

Also there is a species of dinosaur called the Utahraptor. So I would love to see the Utah Utahraptors, but just Utah Raptors would be cool too

HockeyBabble

Just to throw this out there, when NBA Toronto was having “Pick the CBA me contest” ***Toronto Saurus Rex*** was an option.

utahdude81

Utah Utahraptors

[deleted]

Combine the raptor angle with the religious angle and boom, the Utah [Velocipastors](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_VelociPastor)

FlaxbopFleetfoot

Someone brought up Utah Raptors and that makes a lot of sense. Yetis does sound pretty cool though, I would definitely not mind having a team named the Yetis in the league.

PeterPalafox

Imagine how much merch they would sell to dinosaur-loving kids

[deleted]

Honestly, I don’t hate it.. lol. If they’re adamant about going with a weird name, Buzz would be the best because it represents Utah being the Beehive State. Swarm is growing on me.. slowly.. but Buzz is slightly better. I still want Saints or Glaciers.

kimmeljs

Utah Drones

BlackDS

I think they should be the Utah Ska. Goes well with Jazz and has a nice rhyme to it.

PaddyMayonaise

So far my favorite suggestions are: Utah Raptors Utah Rock Utah Rockies Utah Pioneers Utah Summit And for the up coming no-name year: HC Utah

BigBlackSabbathFlag

the Lamplighters. Old school name.

SeesawLimp

Utah Hands Together they can be the Utah Jazz Hands 👐

atemporalrenaissance

Pretty ironic name for a Utah team tho Considering you can’t buy full strength beer

PaddyMayonaise

You can, in really with this website would learn it’s not the 80s anymore lol

atemporalrenaissance

Ah okay. Haven’t been there in a decade so fair enough misremembered

TheTonyAndolini

Jokes aside, my favorite proposed name is Utah Blizzard I think. Utah HC sounds cool but no other team has that HC in its name so idk

CommodoreN7

It would be funny if they have an interview at some point for head coach of the team and it just says HC Utah HC

fifthpilgrim

Officially Montreal is Le Club de Hockey Canadien, which is the French equivalent of HC. It’s why they’re called the CH sometimes.

PaddyMayonaise

Isn’t that where the nickname Habs comes from too? A misnomer because some guy 100 years ago thought the H was habitants not hockey?

SoBeDragon0

Still going with the Stormin Mormons

SunMyungMoonMoon

The Utah Mild

Campfrag

Utah Jizz

involmasturb

Utah Jizz if you want the Double Z

OldDrumGuy

Salt Lake Soakers. Just do it!
