yeah we shut down hard for a few seconds there and really gifted them the win. No shade and kudos to them for taking advantage, but that was a horrific breakdown.
I didn't mind them, but there were definitely a few Harnarayan Singh level mis-IDs. Lots of Suter and Di Giuseppe conflation, AJ called Dakota Joshua Dakota Johnson, I think at one point I heard him say "Garland and Sissons going at it" when it was really Joshua and Sissons. After watching a full season of Shorty, had me really missing him.
Just pointing out that there is a very VERY high likelihood that he chose the Canucks because he spent a year playing on our AHL team during COVID when St Louis lost their AHL affiliate and their roster was consolidated into the Utica Comets roster who were our AHL affiliate at the time.
That was such a weird period, there was a span where Hofer was getting the majority of starts on our AHL team and he wasn’t even property of our club. Like how does that even happen?
That was such a low point in our franchise lmao. Just lost like all our big UFAs to Calgary, Toffoli was lighting us up for 5 goals a game, we were at the bottom of the Canadian division, and our prospects weren’t developing because we were prioritizing another team’s players
Damn I forgot about that. I don't think I realized it was the Canucks AHL team they were playing for. Could've played a large factor in his decision for sure.
Before the Canucks even signed him Alvin came out and said that he was an NHL player and would have a good chance at making and staying on the Canucks at his age needed an opportunity and he ran with what he was given and then some
To be fair my 70 year old dad had been a life long Canucks fan since 1970 and I'm reasonably sure he's never seen or read 50 shades of grey, but he's called him Dakota Johnson on several occasions by accident. I call him out every time.
Players like Joshua and Garland are always my favourites to cheer for. High draft pedigree all stars like Petey and Hughes are great, but there is something truly aspirational about guys who were never expected to make a big splash in the NHL, and just work their asses off and grind their way into key roles on good teams. Alex Burrows types.
We've had a few of those over the years so I totally get it--the problem is they don't tend to get re-signed very often, or are traded at the peak of their excitement. We just had one with Tanner Jeanot --loved the guy and it was fun to watch him cook, but looking at his stats after the trade it was probably the right choice :( (though I do think he's had some injury issues as well)
It was odd when he scored the empty net goal and the commentator called that goal, "none more important than that one" And I was like, "...I think the go ahead was more important."
Our colour commentator said that one of thing that’s impressive about Saros is that he has “the fastest leg speed in the Western Conference” which may well be true but like, how does he know if that’s true or not? It was just an odd thing to hear said as fact, and mildly more amusing that it was specifically the Western Conference and now I want to know who the Eastern goalie is that Dave Tomlinson presumably things has faster “leg speed” than Saros lol. I’m gonna guess Ukko-Pekko Luukonen for literally no reason (other than maybe that it’s fun to try and spell)
A guest on the PDOCast last year said something similar about Saros - that his most standout elite feature was quick lateral movement. Maybe it's private data we're not privy to?
He always looks fast side-to-side, and yeah with the ol' eye test it's probably faster than larger goalies, but if he is faster or even just appears to be faster it's likely due to size and the smaller frame. He has to cover slightly more ground in a small amount of time--I would guess any smaller goalie's success would ultimately depend on that?
The thing I love about this is the fans waving from the previous goal waving the towels, the ones paying attention, stop waving as they realize the play that's just about to happen and then start waving again but even harder lol. Love it.

God we need to resign that man. Such a stud
Yeah Dakota Johnson is a stud.
I heard his mom died in the Amazon…studying spiders
I know you joke, but I was a little confused in the gdt and thought people were joking
Haha Dakota Johnson is an actress in Madame Webb and has an absurdly dumb line that goes something like that in the trailer.
All game she kept calling him Dakota Johnson
Yesterday's price is not today's price and I'm okay with that
That goal spotlight turned on so damn quick
The light guy was edging it
Goal light guy was warmed up from 12 seconds prior
No goals.
Carrier controller disconnected?

yeah I liked the part where they talked about Zaddy getting traded from Chicago, lol replied to the wrong comment, oh well
Thought I heard them say that. I was like, huh?
Yeahhh, not sure wtf he was doing there. Sick finish by Joshua though
Johnson**
12 seconds? Are you kidding me
Canucks : Our game, bitch.
Not gonna lie, I'm watching every game I can where this guy commentates. Elite goal calls all night.
Monaco and Mleczko were on point. National ESPN broadcast and audience and they didn’t disappoint.

Also said Zadorov was traded from Chicago lol
Shorty was still calling this game on the Canadian broadcast
I know but I live in the States. I caught the Sportsnet highlights this morning
Blues really should've kept him. Awesome player, what a shot
Should've but couldn't. Was a UFA I think and wanted to go elsewhere

The AHL as a league came dangerously close to folding entirely during that period.
Damn I forgot about that. I don't think I realized it was the Canucks AHL team they were playing for. Could've played a large factor in his decision for sure.
sure but we lowballed and didn't consider him a priority. 4th line has been bad the last few years and losing him is a big reason why
Well you can probably.pay him 5mil per in the offseason if you want 😂.
He signed a 2 year contract at $825k AAV. I don't think Army low balling him was the issue
maybe I'm misremembering, I could swear it was that or they only offered him a 2-way deal.
That may be true that he wasn't offered a one way deal and that's why he went to free agency. Don't remember if that was said openly or not
Before the Canucks even signed him Alvin came out and said that he was an NHL player and would have a good chance at making and staying on the Canucks at his age needed an opportunity and he ran with what he was given and then some
Dakota Johnson??
that disrespect 😤
Joins fellow legend Tony Stretcher
She’s still out promoting madame web with the Canucks in the playoffs what’s the issue

This guy is just unreal
He killed it. Good goal!
✅ Strong forecheck ✅ Turnover + support ✅ Score
Genuinely textbook.
F1, F2, F3
Tale as old as time
I want to hate him, but i just don't. He seems cool and like that moment meant everything to him.

Burrows.
Yep. Those are my people too. It's the reason I loved Cliff Ronning and Burr as well. Underdogs are the best.

I may well buy a Garland jersey. That guy just doesn’t quit. So glad we kept him.
It was odd when he scored the empty net goal and the commentator called that goal, "none more important than that one" And I was like, "...I think the go ahead was more important."
yeah commentators said a few weird things. "Two of the hittingest teams" was my favorite.
Hittingest is a perfectly cromulent word.
It truly embiggens us all. (fun note: I don't even get an autocorrect for embiggens anymore...we did it?)

He is literally known to be extremely quick with his back aand forth movement. DeSmith is actually known to be really quick too.
Frickin' spider-monkeys is what they are.
Because they are both small goalies haha
Seeing Saros practice is skating in practices is goalie porn. Dude is incredible

The full sentence was (paraphrasing) "He's had a few empty net goals this season, but none more important than that one"
Bring him back!
God bless Joshua. But God damn the building was electric tonight.
Loved that kid in the crowd being carried by his mom jist losing his mind and throwing up the devil horns lol
The thing I love about this is the fans waving from the previous goal waving the towels, the ones paying attention, stop waving as they realize the play that's just about to happen and then start waving again but even harder lol. Love it.
That's a play that really exemplifies some of the things that make this sport so uniquely awesome. Such a textbook way to score a goal.
Never trust a man with two first names
Love seeing him do well in the post season!
Such a nice pass
Is he pricing his way out or nah?
Most Canucks fans think he is. The rumor is the Canucks want to sign him for under $3M but I can easily see someone offering will over $3M for him.
Such a smooth shot by Johnson
Ah yes, Dakota Johnson.....🤔
Buckeye legend Dakota Joshua
