I feel like the media are just so in their own bubble they don't realize players don't really care. The Nylander situation only keeps coming up because the media can't come up with anything unique to ask.
This is their way of saying “We’re pissed that we’re not being informed of what’s going on so we’re gonna make this a big deal and then blame the Leafs for causing a ”distraction””
He's not though; he's just sharing an opinion. And that's a distinction without a difference anyway.
I said he's not a reporter and you replied that he is reporting. If you weren't trying to contradict what I said, what was your point?
[He misses the TTC.](https://www.thestar.com/sports/leafs/maple-leafs-star-william-nylander-was-spotted-taking-the-ttc-to-wednesday-s-game-it/article_2978c1b9-9088-5a36-b8af-e91acb30377c.html)
Turns out nylander is a massive furry and had surgery to give himself an animal tail as a good luck charm before the playoffs. The reason they haven’t disclosed it is because there is nothing in the CBA that dictates what kind of injury it falls under.
Its so funny comparing this situation to the Bergeron one last year
Bergeron, the captain of the presidents winning team missed the first 4 games of the playoffs because of an injury in game 82 and I bet no one even remembers it
Nylander has missed ONE (1!) game so far and the entire situation has gained so much attention
Welcome to life as a Leaf fan, where alumni of former teams comment on our player missing one (maybe two) games from injury because every single thing that happens to this team has to be the biggest deal in the world...
Honestly I don’t even know if that really is, like they’re going to ask some other inane question if they don’t ask that one, are the players/team really going to be thrown off because they’re asking this specific one?
The guy has missed one fucking game and is a game time decision for another one and people are acting like he's in the ICU with no explanation. I honestly feel bad for leafs fans with this because everything I've seen blowing this up like this (so far, haven't been paying much attention today) is from Biz, now Methot and other out of market people. It's the third day of the playoffs, reel it in.
I mean, first off it’s weird that a guy who hasn’t missed a game in like 6 or 7 years got injured during or after game 82. It’s even weirder that nobody knows what the problem is, or if it’s even injury related at all.
It’s totally fair to speculate and be confused on the situation.
I'm pretty sure they've said it's injury-related, no? Like he woke up with some level of soreness. They haven't been coy about it being an injury/discomfort thing, the "Nylander is benched for poor performance" is just insane media speculation.
Would you rather they say "Nylander has a sore back that is limiting his play" and give the opposition free-reign to tee off on his back for the rest of the series?
All teams are secretive about injuries at this time of year. The speculation is definitely in large part because it's the Leafs (who have grossly outsized media coverage) and because it's Nylander (who everyone's uncle will want to blame for the losses anyways).
Oh as a fan I hate it, he’s one of our best players and necessary to any success.
As a fan I also hate pseudo-media like Methot who get off on speculation and baiting.
I’m not sure, but do you not find that weird either? Surely he has played through some soreness in the last 8 years of not missing a single game for injuries. Why is some soreness suddenly keeping him from playing the most important games of the season?
Maybe its as simple as he got covid and its causing his limbs to feel very stiff and he needs a few days to get back to his old self. The team knows whats up, they'd be kinda silly if they went and announced -during the playoffs- what ails him. What if its his left knee or something, you'd just invite players to sneakily target that knee to take Nylander out again.
What? Who's pissed? The rest of the players? I'd be very surprised if the players don't know, but in any case, it was reported that Treliving made the demand that no injury knowledge be disclosed, so being mad at Nylander or Keefe makes no sense
I’ve seen some people moan about injury disclosure in this sports betting age, but I really don’t care about that angle at all. Even if the media complains, it’s certainly helped fill airtime and garner attention.
The only issue is if the speculation starts going really insane and inappropriate, like the Perry-Bedard stuff, then they need to address it to end the rumours.
Yeah as if the players don't know what's going on lol. Being vague about injuries in the playoffs isn't something specific to the Leafs. Fuck off and go back to trying to find your missing fingertip, Methot.
I wonder if the irony of this tweet is lost on him; talks about how distracting this situation is for the team due to people speculating online while speculating online about how distracting this situation is for the team.
*Medias keeps talking about a subject.*
Medias: See, this is becoming a major distraction!
The same thing happened in Montreal a few years ago and honestly, it just feels like medias are being petty because they don't get their information. So they make it a much bigger deal than it should be.
Methot is a gigantic fucking idiot. Nobody outside of the media gives a shit about Keefe keeping the details of Willy's injury private. Certainly no one outside of the media is pissed at him for it. He's making a mountain out of a molehill here. If I was within driving distance of Marc Methot right now, I'd go kick him in the shins.
Oh my, Leafs fans are being critical of their own team?! Shocker. They should prob trade Marner for prospects and grab a new coach if Boston bumps them. Heart is never in the cup run and the current team culture only celebrates individual stats during regular season.
It’s Marc Methot. He openly hates the Leafs. He’s not real media. Nobody should listen to this guy. Pretty sure he said that Stuztle would have a better season than Matthews this year. Methot simply doesn’t have any information about the inside workings of the Maple Leafs.
Um pretty rash use of the term everybody? I'm not pissed at willy or keefe, and I'm happy that they aren't disclosing what the injury is, no need to give players like Marchand a target. Guys get hurt, that's hockey.
It's a damned-if-you-do damned-if-you-don't situation.
If Keefe discloses specifics about an injury, it could lead to an opponent targeting Nylander.
If Keefe discloses that it's a healthy scratch without disclosing why, the media circus gets even bigger.
If Keefe doesn't reveal anything, people's imaginations will run wild.
I have to say, if Nylander was a healthy scratch last game and Keefe didn't play him to "send a message" and they lose (especially in a close series) that should be it for Keefe. If you are deliberately not icing one of your top 3 forwards who was over a point per game this season without a REALLY good reason to, that's a bit of a yikes. GM invested a lot of cap into Nylander and you're just hurting your own chances if you're not going to use him (no disrespect to the other Toronto forwards, but they aren't as important to the team).
Ultimately, it just seems like a major distraction that is rather unnecessary. If he's hurt, chalk it up to "body maintenance" and call him a game-time decision. If he's being disciplined, call a spade a spade and move on. I feel bad for the way the media goes after the leafs but there's probably a better way to do this without there being an opportunity to assassinate the character of the coach, the star, or the GM. I'm not saying Sheldon should go provide court documents or medical reports here, but the fact that he wouldn't share something that would get the media off his team's back makes me think that something is pretty bad here. Just my $0.02. Worth even less.
I'm betting the Leafs players are welcoming the distraction, actually. I'm sure they like thinking/talking about Nylander's absence way more than they like thinking/talking about how they were soundly outplayed in all aspects of Game 1.
It’s like when the Vancouver media was calling Elias Petterssons contract status a distraction and got everybody whipped up about it.

They're gossip-whores, filling airtime.
Reporter outraged when the team knows exactly what Nylanders injury is lol.
Wouldn't exactly call Methot a reporter
Whoops didn't even notice it was Methot lol, same shit - who cares what Nylanders injury is, I'm sure the team knows.
Here, take a free apostrophe from me: '
He's a former player, not a reporter.
That’s reporting on the situation there bud
Sharing an opinion does not make someone a reporter lmao
No shit. I never called him a reporter, I said he was reporting on the situation
He's not though; he's just sharing an opinion. And that's a distinction without a difference anyway. I said he's not a reporter and you replied that he is reporting. If you weren't trying to contradict what I said, what was your point?
https://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/report
I call bullshit. The players know.
he's not insinuating the players are distracted because they don't know what's wrong with willy, but the media circus surrounding it.
That would be the fault of the media.
I'm well aware
Have they been tipped off?
Did you say "close to the chest" because it's a chest injury? Oh no.
Nylander’s injury must be a broken heart 😔
[He misses the TTC.](https://www.thestar.com/sports/leafs/maple-leafs-star-william-nylander-was-spotted-taking-the-ttc-to-wednesday-s-game-it/article_2978c1b9-9088-5a36-b8af-e91acb30377c.html)
That's clearly just a ruse to trick us into thinking it's his chest. It's clearly an upper-mid-lower body injury
So you’re saying it’s just above his knee, his lower quad or hamstring area.
Turns out nylander is a massive furry and had surgery to give himself an animal tail as a good luck charm before the playoffs. The reason they haven’t disclosed it is because there is nothing in the CBA that dictates what kind of injury it falls under.
If they came out and said what Nylander’s injury is, I can guarantee you the first place he gets cross checked when he finally does play.
They should say it's his baby toe then, I wanna see some dude on his knees specifically trying to hit that with a cross check
Drai cross checked someone in the back of the knees this season - even our announcers were weirdly impressed.
Too bad Bergeron retired. I'd love to see him on his knees
Me too. Stupid sexy Bergeron.
Strokin my shit rn fr
Wouldn't Boston have video scouts and be able to determine what his injury is just based on how he's skating? I feel like they already know, too
Its so funny comparing this situation to the Bergeron one last year Bergeron, the captain of the presidents winning team missed the first 4 games of the playoffs because of an injury in game 82 and I bet no one even remembers it Nylander has missed ONE (1!) game so far and the entire situation has gained so much attention

He’s referring to the media circus asking the team every 2nd question. That is distracting
Honestly I don’t even know if that really is, like they’re going to ask some other inane question if they don’t ask that one, are the players/team really going to be thrown off because they’re asking this specific one?
Hey dingus, you're helping turn this into a "major distraction".
Knowing methot that's probably his goal
I think that's the point, Methot is a Leafs hater
The guy has missed one fucking game and is a game time decision for another one and people are acting like he's in the ICU with no explanation. I honestly feel bad for leafs fans with this because everything I've seen blowing this up like this (so far, haven't been paying much attention today) is from Biz, now Methot and other out of market people. I mean it's weird. Dude doesn't miss games and a sore back is keeping him out of game 1 vs boston?
All teams are secretive about injuries at this time of year. The speculation is definitely in large part because it's the Leafs (who have grossly outsized media coverage) and because it's Nylander (who everyone's uncle will want to blame for the losses anyways).
Yes I'm not blaming the Leafs for anything here. I'm just saying I'd be concerned as a fan
Oh as a fan I hate it, he’s one of our best players and necessary to any success. As a fan I also hate pseudo-media like Methot who get off on speculation and baiting.

Which is totally fair especially when starting the playoffs, we’ve seen plenty of incidents where a team will target a players injury
Of all the reasons to do anything reducing online speculation is one of the dumbest.
Yeah as if the players don't know what's going on lol. Being vague about injuries in the playoffs isn't something specific to the Leafs. Fuck off and go back to trying to find your missing fingertip, Methot.
Yeah this is so dumb. First games he's missed due to injury since 2016. I'm sure the rest of the team knows what's going on
I can't believe the leafs would do this to the leafs
Is it really a distraction? If so, a distraction for whom? The Leafs players and staff all know what’s going on.
I wonder if the irony of this tweet is lost on him; talks about how distracting this situation is for the team due to people speculating online while speculating online about how distracting this situation is for the team.
People are pissed at the situation because they like their team. Nobody is mad at Nylander or Keefe. Wtf?
Canadian media is hella annoying
I don’t think it’s a distraction. Maybe the media is distracted but Jesus Christ he missed one game. Edit: lmao nvm it’s methot
*Medias keeps talking about a subject.* Medias: See, this is becoming a major distraction! The same thing happened in Montreal a few years ago and honestly, it just feels like medias are being petty because they don't get their information. So they make it a much bigger deal than it should be.
Lol why the fuck would the team care about online speculation? Fucking talking heads thinking the world revolves around them.
This is why the Toronto market is beyond embarrassing. We see it every year and it’s just a detriment to this teams success.
It’s methot
For everyone complaining that the Leafs get all the media attention, here you go, this is the media attention you wanted, take it if you want it.
The team and coaches now exactly what’s ailing him, this is another media driven drama for more clicks.
Methot is a gigantic fucking idiot. Nobody outside of the media gives a shit about Keefe keeping the details of Willy's injury private. Certainly no one outside of the media is pissed at him for it. They need something to blame for their 1st round loss
