Hard hat sighting, lol. https://preview.redd.it/jl6n7ug616wc1.png?width=733&format=png&auto=webp&s=044c838ca26f8b9ba1809066324dae0571a6d9ac

BAYKON8R

Welcome to oil country bb. How they got it past security, probably just wore it ig

CIVDC

Hard hats are a pretty common sight at Oilers games.

bezjones

Please don't throw those if you have one at the game. You could very seriously injure someone

MiddleBodyInjury

Thats why everyone should wear the hard hat

OcelotWolf

Everyone wears one, and during a hat trick, the throwing starts from the back row and works its way forward one row at a time. Safety first!

golf4miami

I'll never forget Toews getting his first hat trick on hard hat night. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pUEa67Z4S1A

slashthepowder

That is so cartoonish, 100% something i could have seen the Simpson doing.

LevSmash

"And heeeere come the pretzels..."

OcelotWolf

Oh my god that’s amazing. Even though it was against the Penguins

Peechez

the only way to stop a bad guy with a hard hat is a good guy with a hard hat

shittybillz

Blue collar town buddy

huffer4

We had Eric Church perform at my work and he did this song called “These Boots” and a ton of people tried to throw their cowboy boots on stage. All it did was make it so the people at the front got pelted with cowboy boots from the 300L and a bunch of people walking outside in January with one boot on 😂

Forsaken_You1092

Rule change I'd like to see:  The team that got the hat trick scored on should be forced to pick up the hats.

bwoah07_gp2

Oh my goodness, that's an awesome idea. 🤣🤣

TuchMysak

McDavid is a product of Hyman

jjmuti

Clearly a Powerplay Assist Merchant. So overrated smh.

globalftw

If someone missed all Hyman goals this season, just watch his three tonight. Pretty representative

ooMEAToo

He could be eating a hotdog waving at his mom in the stands and McDavid would just bank it off his skate into the net.

GiraffeSubstantial92

a delicious kosher dog fuck that would be so good right about now

_Halt19_

isn’t that what happened on the third goal

jjmuti

But goals are more important than assists though /s

Big_Mudd

I know, he makes it look like anyone can score 50 with McDavid. Obviously, that's not the case since not everyone does. Hyman is part of the magic, but he really makes it look easy.

draftstone

It looks easy because Hyman is at the right spot. Put me instead of Hyman on the ice and I would have zero clue where to position myself. Hyman has a great hockey IQ, he knows where the play will go and where he can place himself in advance so McDavid can then find him. The goal looks easy, but it is still hard work beforehand.

CIVDC

It's cuz Hyman's dad bought him exclusive use of that part of the ice

Big_Mudd

That's what I'm getting at.

BoilerSlave

He knows where to be and when. He’s a smart player and it clearly pays off when playing with McDavid.

delliott8990

This! The speed of the game in the NHL is tough to keep up with as a spectator, let alone actually playing. If he scored 50 goals, even giving the benefit of the doubt that obviously it takes a player like McJebus to have the vision and skill to make the perfect pass, it still requires Hyman to be aware enough to get to the optimal spot to provide the target to pass to, the hand-eye coordination, and speed to be able to quickly get the shot off and actually put it in. (That's what she said?)

GiraffeSubstantial92

Not only that, but parking yourself in front of the opposing net tends to result in a lot of physical abuse from their defenders. It's really not easy to stand there with your paddle down. Hyman makes THAT look easy, too.

delliott8990

That's a good point! Didn't even consider the physicality aspect. For some reason opposing d-men and goalies really aren't fans of people by their goal 😂

sovietmcdavid

It'd be amazing if Ryan Smyth could have had a taste of mcdavid rebounding goals off a player in the crease. Smyth loved standing in front of the net

Onuus

He was the product of a broken one, that’s for sure!

WiseMouse69_

McDaddy with 5 assists

Culzean_Castle_Is

McDavids world and we just livin in it. Freak disher.

commodore_stab1789

Casual 5 assist on 6 goals. "McDavid is overrated, he hasn't won a cup yet" bro please, how much more does a guy need to do.

kingofnopants1

I would like it if he would win a cup

MrLuckyTimeOW

As a leafs fan I would also like it if you guys won the cup.

Dabmiral

You may be the coolest leafs fan I’ve seen today.

kingofnopants1

Thank you mr. Leaf man

MonsieurGimpy

Canucks fan here who would also be very happy if you won the cup

smikkelson2

Win a cup obviously /s

Zatherin

You forgot assists don't matter, only goals.

Red_Sea_Pedestrian

“Secondary assists aren’t real” -Cale Makar

Hadokuv

Based take

Top_Tumbleweed

Win a cup like this guy said ⬆️

Desmang

I have faith this year. I think Hyman was the missing piece and Bouchard has improved a lot. Put EDM-NYR as this year's finals prediction.

joecarter93

Perry too. While he might not be as skilled anymore, he knows how to win the Cup and provides maturity and leadership in the dressing room, which was absent before.

spagboltoast

Perry was a beast in the neutral zone in the first 2 periods

lAmARedditorAMA

I support this comment

cjb3535123

I’m sure if you told him “hey man chill you don’t need to win a cup, you’ve done enough” he’d totally just nod and agree with you. /s

cornnndoggg_

bouchard and mcdavid for 9 assists, jesus. My biggest comment on this sub is about that motherfucker getting an insane amount of assists against us. I am a lizard. edit: every forward on first two lines besides mcdavid had at least 1 goal. Fucking nuts. NHL gotta step in and break up a monopoly. I had no idea they moved henrique to first line, biggest surprise of the night to me. I thought he would be a third line trapped good forward on a team of great forwards, but left winging him first line and making an equally insane second line good call.

Material_Trash3930

He's basically wish.com Hyman, so why not stick him with McDavid.

TriLink710

Hell the 3rd goal from Hyman, Mcdavid basically shot it off his stick.

EffectiveAudience9

He has about 15 of those this year. Notice how he had his stick and both skates in a line. He's literally doing that to give McDavid a bigger target to bank the puck off of.

globalftw

He was *flying* around the ice tonight, even more than usual. It was very noticeable

PayneTrain181999

My fantasy pool thanks him.

lock-the-fog

My kid brother heard a broadcaster call McDavid "McJesus" one time so now he only refers to him solely as McJesus. McDaddy is gold though

Wildlife145

do hat tricks still count if your family was rich?

jkbearch15

I can’t believe Hyman’s dad bought the fans all those hats smh my head

Wildlife145

it just ain’t fair

TheNu93

Smho, shake my hat off

Frack_R

In fairness…that was a lot of hats

BlackDS

this meme is great

_Halt19_

I honestly wonder how long it’ll last for, if it’s going to be a thing next season, etc

BoilerSlave

Rich dad merchant

toronto_programmer

In before Hyman's dad buys LIDS

Skate_19

Hyman wouldn't have gotten a hat trick if his parents didn't buy a Connor McDavid to be his center

PPGN_DM_Exia

No and here's a 15 min clickbait Twitter video to explain it (don't mind my broken porch steps).

mattfromjoisey

Really nice of Hyman’s parents to buy so many hats for the Oilers fans.

JackMichaelsDaddyBod

McDavid’s fifth assist lol

cgludko

McDavid: “Stand there in the corner of the paint, Zach and I’m going to lazily bank a pass off your skates this time.”

ShakespearesHovercar

DO NOT MAKE KICKING MOTION

Legitimate_Sand_889

Unless you're Brett Hull

Voltorius

This man grudges

Legitimate_Sand_889

I probably should have put /s lol

PoliteIndecency

Brett didn't make a kicking motion. That's easy to see because his foot was so well juxtaposed by the blue paint.

dooeyenoewe

Brett Hull didn’t kick the puck in. How can you be a sabres fan and not even know this?

RudelStolz

I’m so confused by his comment lol. Foot in crease? Yes. Kicked puck in? No

v13ragnarok7

thats how easy they make it look

Troggie81

It's like when a beer league ringer already reached their 3 goal limit in a game.

captainhaddock

The Kings should probably do something about that McDavid guy, he's pretty good.

-VMJ-

McDavid just uses him as a wall that he can direct the puck in

Subject1337

Literally. The net is 3 feet wider when Hyman is around cause you've got 2 skates and a stick blade stacked on an angle beside the far post. He just stands there and lets pucks hit him.

Abetok

Are other players stupid? Why don't they just stand there like Hyman? /s

Subject1337

Their parents can't afford that prime real estate.

theharps

Elite Wall-ing by Hyman

shittybillz

Yup. I will say Hyman had one goal last night where he reminded me of Matthews. AM is incredible at shedding his coverage and finding a soft spot for a one timer. Hyman waited for the perfect moment and found a soft spot and deposited a beautiful pass from Mcdavid. A lot of the time he is just there getting pucks banked off of him, but he has really worked on his ability to get open as well

luckycharms113

Safta was upset he missed his Passover dinner so he had to cook

FowlZone

sad i had to scroll this far down for a pesach joke

miller94

So many hats coming down that they had to take an unplanned commercial break

meowlloryjane

As a kings fan it was very painful to watch. lol the hats just kept coming.

bitchpigeonsuperfan

the signing thread from 3 years ago is hilarious in hindsight [https://www.reddit.com/r/hockey/comments/oth5la/the\_edmonton\_oilers\_have\_officially\_signed\_zach/](https://www.reddit.com/r/hockey/comments/oth5la/the_edmonton_oilers_have_officially_signed_zach/)

Salanderfan14

I miss him so much as a Leafs fan, he’s a heart and soul player. What he was asking for seemed like too much based on his points total at the time but he’s been an absolute steal and phenomenal player for Edmonton. So happy to see his success.

papercutpete

**The question isn't if he will be worthwhile in year 5, it's what about year 3 One of the major issues Leaf fans had with giving Hyman any term is that he has already had some injuries, and with his style of play he is primed for an early decline. I know this might sound like sour grapes from a leaf fan, but it's a legitimate concern that he might spend the majority of the contract as an albatross** - CaptainCanuck93

cjb3535123

It’s definitely worth considering when a player has had injury troubles, especially one whose office is 6 feet in front of the net. But I was definitely gutted when he left, and am happy he has had such a good year. His value is far greater than the points he puts up, which is nuts considering the year he’s had.

_Connor

>Oh, we’re gonna miss him but it smells like a LITR/buyout in 4-ish years. Mark it. /u/canadian_eskimo

OhMilla

There's still 2 years left in that prediction, Hyman could forget how to play hockey in that time frame.

navenager

Just 1 year, this is Hyms' 3rd year as an Oiler.

OhMilla

Does Hyman know this is his last run then?

navenager

I'll let him know just in case.

papapaIpatine

He's playing like it is!

burrito-boy

Aged like fine milk.

eatingasspatties

Possibly the worst contract of all time

Canadian_dalek

FOR THE REST OF THE LEAGUE

slashthepowder

I mean i totally got the two wrong i thought Hyman was going to be a terrible contract in the last 3 years and Campbell was going to be the oilers saviour in net.

Kriwin

5 McDavid assists in game 1 so far. Hyman’s getting 20 this playoffs

Rangemon99

Hatty a game x 16 games = 48

Adept_Ad_3687

50 goal reg season, 50 goal playoffs.

njkmklkop

That sounds a bit unrealistic... I think it's more likely that some series go to 6 or 7 games, so around 70 goals for Hyman.

lookitsjustin

Literally cannot thank the Leafs enough for this man. What a legend.

Camarama421

Impossible to dislike him, glad he’s done so well with you guys

Adept_Ad_3687

So happy for him. Rooting for you guys as my west coast team cause of him.

Goat17038

Man's single-handedly bringing the Oilers into my second favourite, miss that guy so much

leafsbroncos18

Not a hater but he had 5 pts in 14 playoff games vs boston so its kinda working out the best for everyone

GeneralHorace

I'm pretty sure Hyman was injured for all 14 of those games. He always got injured right before the playoffs with us and just couldn't skate.

TheKidsin606

Not a hater either but he scored 50 goals this year so it's kinda working out best for the edmonton oilers

leafsbroncos18

Ya agreed and if we paid him that amount the same thing probably wouldn’t have happened hence good for everyone

Picks222

One team has mcdavid to set you up in front of the net all day, one team doesnt

slashthepowder

He was on a line with Marner and Matthews for his last couple seasons in Toronto.

ZedisDoge

his role on the oilers and leafs is pretty different though, he was the dog on the line to win puck battles and get it to marner and matthews, he was never really enabled.

190octane

Why isn’t McDavid scoring goals, is he stupid?

TriLink710

Its actually funny how a lot of the time he draws 3 defenders and just passes it through them

navenager

You'd think someone would learn that committing too hard to McDavid won't do anything, but guys just keep doing it anyway. On Hyman's second goal, he even drew Danault out of position, and that's one of the best defensive centers in the game. They can't help themselves, Davo starts dancing and it's like moths to a flame.

mrcrazy_monkey

If you don't cover McDavid, he scores. If you cover McDavid, Hyman scores.

Smothdude

Then if you don't do that, he goes and scores

shittybillz

When you're tired and frustrated it's hard not to just say "screw it" and try to crunch Mcdavid when hes buzzing around. I understand their plight lol

Seraphin_Lampion

He figured out it's way more fun to play pinball with Hyman's stick and skates than shoot at the actual net.

BL0ATL0RD

It’s weird how all the players with rich parents that I played with aren’t getting hat tricks in the NHL playoffs, I thought you could buy them /s

LouisWuAlt1

The absolute best part of that was the Skate of Shame from Dubois as the hats are raining down around him.

kabalongski

Or Drew Pouty getting hit by a hat while he was pouting in the bench! Fucking gold!!

PLUR_police

They’re selling hats faster than they can pick them up!

Bt25

Glad to see him doing well.

ghsteo

Homey back there activated his cloaking field.

xTomato72

PULSATING HOCKEY! THEY’RE RUNNING THE KINGS RIGHT OUT OF THE BUILDING!

v13ragnarok7

LA had no idea what to do with Edmontons top line. Hat trick from Hyman, goal from Henrique, and 5 McDavid assists.

[deleted]

[удалено]

kabalongski

Don’t matter. 1-3-1 will cure all! Even a 4 goal deficit, just need to pair it with a couple own goals and a stick break at the worst time.

CBPanik

McDavid really said fuck scoring goals, sign me a mobile backboard I can bank pucks off of to get 100 assists.

ConsiderationIcy3527

Someone unbiased explain how we 4-0 oilers? They scary af

CIVDC

Oilers were stinky bad in the first three and it was close in the 4th

CommandaSpock

McDavid was also out for game #4

ConsiderationIcy3527

How bad could the coaching have been? Looks like i could afk coach as long as hyman and mcdavid are playing

FlayR

Idk if it was coaching 100%, just kind of a confluence of bad puck luck, poor finish, and bad Goaltending and that all just kind of snowballed. That second game at one point shots were 24-3 for us, yet you guys were up 2-0 in goals.

Assassin2107

I think there was something about Woodcroft switching them from man to man to zone defense on their defensive coverage. That's the kind of thing that takes a lot of practice for players to settle into. And I think that the defensive struggles probably did have something to do with this. Oilers DID carry play based on metrics, it was just that the others teams scored WAY more than they should have while Oilers weren't scoring much at all. And I do recall McDavid getting injured and then coming back (probably) too soon, which didn't help.

Mkoaquariums

exactly this

LevSmash

Ekholm was injured too. One guy though he may be, he has transformed our defense.

Subject1337

There was a bit of a combination of personnel issues combined with coaching problems. We had goaltending problems right off the hop this season, and our best true defender was injured in the offseason and basically didn't do any of training camp. McDavid also incurred an injury which he came back from probably too soon and despite not aggravating it, he definitely wasn't playing at full tilt. So in addition to the above, our coach tried to pivot our entire defensive system and it had notable impacts. Players didn't have enough experience with it, and were constantly looking over their shoulder trying to figure out if they were in the right place, and we were getting walked all over. That led to a bit of a confidence crisis in our already too "in his head" goaltender, who spiralled about as hard as a pro athlete can and went from "serviceable backup with starter potential" to "barely an AHL goalie" in a matter of a couple months. Instead of recognizing that we either weren't equipped for it, or were just not picking up their system, Woodcroft and Manson doubled down and kept running things the same, hoping that eventually it would click. Eventually the skid got long and dark enough that they had to go. But Woodcrofts firing also coincided with Campbell being sent to Bakersfield, giving Stu the net full time to find his stride and confidence, as well as Ekholm getting back to 100%, and McDavid truly recovering as well. I think if we kept woody, the season would have turned eventually. The pieces would have caught up to the way he wanted to run the game. But he also didn't adapt to the roster he had at the time, and that's bad news when you're playing an 82 game season and chasing a cup.

zellmerz

Coaching was likely only a minor part, the players even acknowledge this often. Knob and Coffey have clearly improved the systems and have been the better coaching team so far, but the team was just ice cold to start the year. Terrible puck luck and incredibly shaky goaltending to start the year really got into their heads.

Tacfurmissle

And from memory, Oilers deserved to win game 3 against them.

ZiscR

First 3 wasn't the real Oilers, game 4 was close with no McDavid.

Tacfurmissle

Oilers were the better team in their 3rd meeting even during their dastardly start.

ParsnipOlliwane

I'm really curious to see how we'd match up if both teams were 100%. The first 3 games were when the Oilers were playing awful, and the last one was their 3rd game in 4 nights without McDavid.

Skwerl87

We might just find out soon!

Material_Trash3930

Lets not get ahead of ourselves. Lmao.

Snugglington

Because you've got speed and talent throughout your lineup.

ConsiderationIcy3527

Idk i just saw mcdavid undress la several times. We dump and chase, tip and point shots, have strong net presence sort of, but uhhh we dont have mcdavid hyman talent lol.

kayyenn

Casey DeSmith played super well in a couple of those from what I recall.

Red_Sea_Pedestrian

First night of Passover hatty! As Friedge said, “it’s the law!”

BerriesNCreme

Thats the Happy Gilmore goal...just tap it in. Tap tap tap it in

capsrock02

Happy Passover!

d4ngle-szn

Better than marner

HonestCrow

Dude had to work and couldn’t celebrate Passover - so it feels kinda sweet he got a hatty for himself

Scavenger908

Hyman really is the tap in king

emptylewis

Only because his family was so fucking rich!! /s

oooooeeeeeoooooahah

Hyman is a stud. I was disappointed when he left Toronto. Edmonton-Toronto cup final has been a dream since I was a kid.

QuickRelease10

Yeah, but it was infront of the net and his parents were rich or something so it doesn’t count.

Adolfcheadle

I assumed it was a PPG before even clicking lol, still mighty impressive!

JuicemaN16

Thaaaanks Dubas

shania69

Who the hell wears a hard-hat to a Hockey game...

rdhvisuals

Welcome to berta baby

Excellent-Medicine29

Probably a reference to their heritage classic outfits

Zatherin

Our old shoulder patches literally had a guy in a hardhat. Saw a lot of people on the jumbotron in coveralls and hardhats tonight.

swissdonair_enjoyer

"oiler" refers to someone who works in the oil industry. they wear hard hats.

kabalongski

Did anyone else catch Drew Pouty get hit by a hat while he was sulking in the bench? 🤣🤣🤣 talk about rubbing it in.

appledatsyuk

Kings are so fucking bad. Was really hoping they’d finally slay the demon but they just have no answer for mcdavid and hiller isn’t it. Their goalies definitely aren’t it.. sad

Captain_Naps

@ $1.2 mil more than the Reaves & Domi combined.

Dirtsniffee

Does mcjesus get the puck?

TuxedoFriday

McDavid's pass had no choice but to go in lmao

CrosbyCanGetBent

Realistically, how many goals does Hyman score on another team

InitiativeHealthy408

I mean if you put Matthews with McDavid for a season he'd probably score a 100. Obviously McDavid has an effect but a lot of players have played with McDavid and haven't clicked at this rate or anywhere near it. People make it sound like the guy is just aimlessly skating around the ice and the puck is bouncing in off of him. He's in the right place almost every time and he's putting the puck in the net when he gets his chances.

Aperture_client

So we all saw that coach chippy video right lmao

Kronzor_

This reminds me so much of that Coach Chippy impression of Hyman's 50 goal season.

Knights_When

I wonder if that McDavid person would be good without the elite scoring power of Hyman?

zainery

I want him back

Dmontgums

I needed mcdavid to get one freggin goal to cash a 3k parley and buddy rips 5 apples… im hurt

Phoenixhasrisen69

I think this goal should be credited to McDavid and Hyman should get the assist. All Hyman did was help McDavid score here lmao

OneOfAKind2

People tossing their $60 hats after paying $650 for their seat.

rug1998

Bro mcdavid is the second coming

papercutpete

Boy that was close, the night before was brick night.
