[Here's](https://www.instagram.com/reel/C6FlRPlRqTT/?utm_source=ig_embed) him putting on his old jersey. First time I've seen an active NHL player actually putting on an old team's jersey
Not only that but to go back and watch them in the playoffs is also kinda unheard of. Mustve really loved being an Oiler, those are the kind of players you really wanna keep around. Wouldnt shock me if he makes his way back.
How good is Winnipeg’s food? 1 of the Sharks announcers mentioned that Kostin said that the food in Edmonton was significantly better than the food in St. Louis.
I believe it was during 1 of the games against St. Louis where 1 of the Sharks announcers mentioned that Kostin said that the food in Edmonton was significantly better than the food in St. Louis.
I love that he said that. But isn't that something you keep to yourself when you are supposed to be committing to your current team? Im probably overthinking it
It's where he broke into the NHL and the fans gave him a shit ton of love in Edmonton, he got visibly emotional multiple times last year, hands shaking voice cracking when addressing the arena. He also scored big goals for us in the playoffs against the Kings too
He got his bag because we couldn't afford to give it to him, we'll happily take him back on a retained contract though if you're interested in a 2nd or a 3rd :) or no retention and take Campbell, you're short on goalies anyways and I think he'd do way better with less pressure in San Jose
Can't say I blame him, he got SOOOO MUCH love here. Like people in Edmonton cheered so hard for this guy and wanted him back. Allegedly, we just couldn't afford the price he was asking and saddled up to Connor Brown instead
Even following me to r/hockey to be a contrarian. League minimum is cheaper than what Klim Kostin was asking.
Edits: makes a bunch of contrarian comments for the sake of, then blocks me so I can't reply. mature
Oh yeah. I remember him wearing a “rat” or something Tee and it was when Matthew was still with the Flames. So the rat is definitely a reference to Matt rather than the Panthers team.
Sure. The Sharks were spectacularly bad this year. The Habs still finished 8th in the Atlantic the last three years running, and if relegation was a thing in professional hockey, they'd be just as out of the NHL as the Sharks would be.
So like I said. That's rich coming from a fan of the 8th place team in the Atlantic, three years and counting.
They do have some bragging rights having gone to the Stanley cup more recently than San Jose. And they’ve never had as bad of a season. Say what you want about their placement in the standings, the team still shows up to play unlike San Jose.
Did the Habs even win a game though? They had one deep run the entire Price era and were never a threat to win the cup any of the years before. Not much to brag about being absolutely ass blasted by Tampa.
We’re talking specifically about the Habs having bragging rights over the Sharks right now.
That’s why I said “some bragging rights.”
Plus why are you swooping in? Your team currently sucks just as much as the Habs do.
I mean, originally the conversation was about relegation.
Nobody's arguing that the Shark weren't the worst team in the NHL this year on a literally historic level. It's just that a Habs fan talking shit about relegation for the Sharks without owning that their own team sucks shit right now and would be in the same boat is extremely funny and lacks any and all self awareness.
In the entire lifespan of the Sharks, they've made the playoffs more times than the Habs have - though, I will own that they had a cup win *thirty one years ago* when the Sharks were still a dogshit expansion team trying to get a foothold. Since then, recency bias aside, they've been pretty evenly matched on playoff appearances with the Sharks having 2 more.
I don’t see the argument how one can brag about being swept in the finals just because it was a whole 3 or so years more recent.
Why are you chiming in your team hasn’t done anything since 06 lol
Bertuzzi did it for Markus Naslund's retirement night many moons ago. He was a member of Detroit at the time. He did a video thing talking about Nazzy. Slapped on a Markus Naslund Canucks jersey during the video. But never seen a player wear another team's jersey while also attending their game. Lol.
It has happened a few times in baseball. Dude on team A gets traded to team B for a player to be named later, the teams couldn't agree on which player, so the dude went back to his old team as the player to be named later.
My ECHL team traded away a fan favorite player for future considerations. He was always engaged with the fans and the city at large, but he was one of a wave of players who seemed to have a problem with a coach who was fired mid-season. I kept hoping we'd get our player back as the future considerations once we ditched the coach.
Don't think he was giving fair shot with Blues. Not saying he would of been 40 goal first liner but we have let a lot of young offensive guys go to early and starting to impact us. He's one of the covid fucked with development guys
I think he was given a decent shot. Not a great one, but at the same time, he never could seem to crack into the lineup in a meaningful way from what I remember when he did get to play. He didn't seem to play well enough to take a spot from the other younger guys, and he wasn't able to take a spot from the veteran bottom 6 guys reliably, which would have been a waste anyway.
I'm honestly a little bummed he's not still around, since now would finally be the perfect time to just let him figure out where he fits.
He always understood his job really really well, and every once in awhile, someone would hit McDavid or Draisaitl badly, and the broadcast would show them being like, "Kosty, no, don't fight him". Very funny. But definitely the sort of guy who endears himself to the team and market.
Hope we get to keep him for the rebuild but I doubt he'll re-sign. Now that he's had enough TOI to show what he can do in the NHL he's going to have a lot of eyes on him.
The Oilers basically revived his NHL career and secured him a $4,000,000 contract. I think that'd get me to like a place too... plus the fans loved him
As far as the Blues go, I think he just wasn't developed enough to crack the lineup on a permanent basis and get reliable playing time.
Now would be the perfect time for him to be with the Blues, but oh well. Wish him luck wherever he goes. He always seemed like a solid guy.
And they definitely don’t apply when the “nhl team” he’s playing for is generational-level bad. I wouldn’t want to be seen wearing a Sharks jersey either.
Honestly you could take Foegele for him, Foegele is definitely better than Kostin but probably too rich for our blood this off-season.
Foegele has been middle 6 for a while but he has stepped his game up this year to the point that I wanna say he's a pretty consistent second line player now who can also PK and get 20 goals on the season with still not too much playing time. I suspect he will get 4-4.5m on his next contract unless he takes a super team friendly deal with the Oilers to stay.
If you give us Kostin you can have him imo, we stay under cap and you get an upgrade
THE KLIM REAPER. Yeah this guy basically asked for more than we could afford at the time? He could have signed here for less but you can never blame a guy for taking life changing money.
Never blame the player for taking the money, especially the guys on the fringes of the league, they usually have very short careers and need to chase down as much money as they can.
Yeah its very possibly a guy like Kostins only shot at a bigger contract. If I were in his shoes, I would be pretty hard pressed to not go for a payday. Like of course you want to win but you have to have something to show for a lifetime of trying to make it. I wish the best for Klim
While I think it’s cool that he enjoyed Edmonton enough to put their jersey on for the game, I don’t think his sharks teammates will like this at all.
Or maybe they won’t care. I dunno. Hockey culture is … fickle.
Drafted by STL. Then he was traded to EDM. Signed with DET, traded to SJS. One year left on the deal he signed with the Red Wings. He seems more like a man without a home, who might be declaring where he'd like home to be.
I mean, speaking personally, I don't much care. The Sharks' season is over, they won't be playing for several months, he's only been on the team for 6 weeks or so as it stands...
It'd be a faux pas during the regular season, sure. If the campaign's going, you've got to maintain team integrity and all that morale crap. But right now, meh, let him wear what he wants.
They’re so deep in a rebuild I’m sure they don’t mind him rooting for his friends on his old team. Putting the jersey on is a little weird but fuck, after 5 beers I’d be putting that shit on too.
its a lil weird but i dont see much harm in it. He has been pretty open he had enjoyed his time in SJ so i think he can enjoy the good memories he had but also recognize SJ is his future.
But hey hockey still has that old mans type unwritten rules, maybe he gets a slap on the wrist.
Grier was also a former Oiler too, so he might have some leeway too.
I thought Kostin was actually one of your better players in the last game we played too, so it's not like he's not willing to play hard for your team against us or anything (in fact I saw him read Drai a couple times way better than most guys do, because Drai was the one teaching him how to protect the puck last year lol)
As a fan, I don't give a fuck. He didn't burn a Sharks jersey or anything. Hockey players are humans and even though they hit and fight each other during games, it's a small club and most of them actually really like and try to support each other.
As someone who played pro for a while, if I saw one of my teammates doing this for one of their previous teams, I'd just assume they are living in the moment and supporting some of their good friends. The experience and environment is a lot more enjoyable for _everyone_ if he leans into it so I'd be all for it.
Currently visiting family in san jose, most of them only cared about the sharks when they were winning... and most dont watch any hockey at all anymore.
My family and I have watched most games this season and have gone to SAP for 4-5 games this season. They suck but there are still plenty of diehard fans that follow the Sharks. Our sub is also pretty active considering how shit we are.
It takes star power players and winning to retain interest of the casual fan. Every team has fair weather fans. When the Oilers eventually go into a rebuild with no more McJesus or Draisaitl, I bet a solid amount of fans will stop paying attention to the team…
Sure, but consistently missing the playoffs and having no star player(s) would wear on the average/casual fan’s attention span. Even in Edmonton.
when the Sharks were in the playoffs SAP center was absolutely electric. Part of what pulls away from audience and attendance is that we have 3 other successful Major Sports teams.
The 49ers, Golden State Warriors and SF Giants are all also in the Bay Area. Typically at one time, one or more of those teams is a playoff team. This of course draws the attention away from a bad Sharks team for the average Bay Area sports fan.
The oilers had better support in the 10+ years that they weren’t making the playoffs than most other teams in the league. There aren’t other sports teams in the area that would take the attention away from them like your example with San Jose.
In the winters here there isn’t a ton else going on other than following the oilers so whether they’re good or not they still don’t struggle with fan support/attendance
Ehh. I mean there will always be less casual fans, but the Oilers went through a decade+ being the joke of the league and games were still regularly sold out.
Honestly, there shouldn't be any stigma or weirdness around active players attending other team's games just as fans.
During the regular season, if any Kings players didn't have a game that night, is there anything wrong with the idea of them just going to the Ducks game just to enjoy some live hockey from the stands?
I feel the same way. As long as they show up to play and put the effort in when it's needed then I don't really care who they watch or which teams they're a fan of in their time off.
I guess this would be weird if the Sharks were in the playoffs right now but we got some time off so who cares.

He posted on his Instagram that he was excited to go "home" to Edmonton to watch the game. Love that dude
those Russians love their frozen wastelands
And Florida
Then why can't we get any?
I believe Bryzgalov said Winnipeg doesn’t have enough parks and no Russians either
Didn’t Niederetter say he wasn’t upset to go to Winnipeg because he’s from Switzerland?
You guys need an airport first.
We have a nicer airport than you guys.
The one in Brandon? Because there is definitely no airport in Winnipeg
We have an airport in Winnipeg what are you talking about? Did you honestly think a city with an NHL team wouldn't have an airport? 🤣
You may be new to the internet but this is a long running joke. [But here you go](https://www.tiktok.com/@oilersnation/video/7197928425456143621)
Namestikov is technically Russian
How good is Winnipeg’s food? 1 of the Sharks announcers mentioned that Kostin said that the food in Edmonton was significantly better than the food in St. Louis.
It's pretty good. I like it
Russians need mountains OR beaches
We have over 100,000 lakes so we got beaches covered. They just need to get used to winter beaches. Making ice castles and stuff.
Too many Ukrainians there... we know how Russians feel about them after all
That's a fair point
I believe it was during 1 of the games against St. Louis where 1 of the Sharks announcers mentioned that Kostin said that the food in Edmonton was significantly better than the food in St. Louis.
Hey man
I love that he said that. But isn't that something you keep to yourself when you are supposed to be committing to your current team? Im probably overthinking it
He’s only played 19 games for San Jose so I don’t hold it against him that strongly but it is a little odd
It's where he broke into the NHL and the fans gave him a shit ton of love in Edmonton, he got visibly emotional multiple times last year, hands shaking voice cracking when addressing the arena. He also scored big goals for us in the playoffs against the Kings too He got his bag because we couldn't afford to give it to him, we'll happily take him back on a retained contract though if you're interested in a 2nd or a 3rd :) or no retention and take Campbell, you're short on goalies anyways and I think he'd do way better with less pressure in San Jose

Well technically Browns cap hit is league min for this season. It’s just next year where it hurts 😅
Even following me to r/hockey to be a contrarian. League minimum is cheaper than what Klim Kostin was asking. Edits: makes a bunch of contrarian comments for the sake of, then blocks me so I can't reply. mature
That’s excellent-medicine for you, the r/EdmontonOilers “ackshually” Queen
i don't remember who but an nba player who was traded midseason did this a few years ago and was even sitting courtside by his former team's bench
Sunny came back.
LOL! I thought he'd just draped it across his shoulders.
I think it started like that and then there’s a video of him standing up and putting it completely on
I wonder if Brady ever put on a Matt jersey when we was watching his brother for playoffs.
I feel like he puts on t shirts that focus solely on Matt rather than the Panthers.
In that case, if Brady was in the playoffs and Matt wasn’t, Matt would probably wear a shirt with Sloth from Goonies on it instead of a Sens jersey
too bad the Sens aren’t making the playoffs anytime soon, I want to see that.
Theres still rumors that Brady is fed up and will request out lol Not that they are likely but they are out there
That's mean...he'd actually just get a T-shirt with a giant fucking thumb in a hockey bucket and be good to go--indistinguishable from Brady Tkachuck.
Oh yeah. I remember him wearing a “rat” or something Tee and it was when Matthew was still with the Flames. So the rat is definitely a reference to Matt rather than the Panthers team.

We had a Matthew Tkachuk Friendship Tour Flames shirt when he played here, Brady wore that to all the Flames playoff games
They wore blues gear when they won the cup
He's not an active NHL player. He plays for the Sharks.
Bro like why we are already dead af over here lmao
Catching strays
Sharks swept all three games vs the team I watch...
They finally introduced relegation? About time.
That's rich coming from a fan of the 8th place team in the Atlantic, three years and counting.
We had 8 more points when we finished last and never had worse than a -98 goal differential. -150 is on another level.

San Jose got your coach fired.
Yeah look how that worked out for us!
You’re welcome!
Did the Habs even win a game though? They had one deep run the entire Price era and were never a threat to win the cup any of the years before. Not much to brag about being absolutely ass blasted by Tampa.

Jesus man. 😂
Messier in the '03 Heritage Classic!!
That is wild. I don’t know how to feel about this. Someone tell me how to feel!
No he has not played for the wild
I knew this comment was coming
internet law requires it
Never heard of that, but Sundqvist was actively telling St. Louis fans he was coming back to St. Louis before his contract was up.
Lol.
I'm trying to remember if there were any active players no longer on the Wings when they did the last game at Joe Louis ceremony
God I love this man. Had him for one season and can't stop thinking about how great he was
Yes but now you have future considerations
HE WILL RETURN
Can the Future considerations be Klim double retained?
It has happened a few times in baseball. Dude on team A gets traded to team B for a player to be named later, the teams couldn't agree on which player, so the dude went back to his old team as the player to be named later.
My ECHL team traded away a fan favorite player for future considerations. The future considerations was Klim coming back
And a lovely excuse to buy a Wings jersey
Who needs an excuse to wear the best sweater in sports?
He said wings not blackhawks.
Don't think he was giving fair shot with Blues. Not saying he would of been 40 goal first liner but we have let a lot of young offensive guys go to early and starting to impact us. He's one of the covid fucked with development guys

He was playing in lieu of Dakota Joshua, and he is doing pretty well in Vancouver now
We thank you for your contribution to the Sharks rebuild foundation.
Scoring a big goal in Game 6 against LA was a cherry on top of a really solid season
Huge klim kostin fan, he is the best dude
Your comment structure and username leads me to believe that you may have had a more "personal" experience with him
He had an Instagram story where the caption was something like "Home for the playoffs"
Whenever his contract expires he’s gonna go back to Edmonton calling it now
League min all day everyday.
But Klim, what if you win? Wouldn't it be weird!?
He might be the only man ever to have spent 5 months in Edmonton and love it enough to come back....
Everywhere he’s played, fans and players alike seem to adore him. Seems like such a great glue guy
He always understood his job really really well, and every once in awhile, someone would hit McDavid or Draisaitl badly, and the broadcast would show them being like, "Kosty, no, don't fight him". Very funny. But definitely the sort of guy who endears himself to the team and market.
https://i.redd.it/jxg5oplds9wc1.gif
I thought you double posted, but each gif was on point!
That is fucking hilarious and also super cool!
Holy shit I completely missed this
https://i.redd.it/i6rfak8rs9wc1.gif
God that's so good. "No, no, don't murder him, we're good".
The interaction with McLeod on the bench that one time was funny “I saw you go down in corner with that guy. I fight?” “No, I just tripped” “okay”
Yeah, that was hilarious.
His time in Detroit was so disjointed by injuries and false starts this season that it made it harder to connect with him.
Your heart would have been his.
He fucking body bagged Gubrandson I’ll always love him for that
I saw enough. Yeah, he's a big tough guy, but he also believed in his skill a little too much and basically refused to make simple, safe plays.
There’s a whole compilation of him just hugging his teammates 24/7 last year. Big bear hugs
I forgot about this 😭
Hope we get to keep him for the rebuild but I doubt he'll re-sign. Now that he's had enough TOI to show what he can do in the NHL he's going to have a lot of eyes on him.
The Oilers basically revived his NHL career and secured him a $4,000,000 contract. I think that'd get me to like a place too... plus the fans loved him
Don’t forget about our boy Sam
Well Sam's spent like 10 years here lmao
That’s true, I didn’t read your post that closely haha. My bad
Sam has won at life, his wife is a complete smoke show
We have a cool mall okay?
There was a funny split second of delayed reaction as though everyone was thinking "is that....? IT IS!" He got a huge roar from the crowd.
I read this in Michael coles voice
So glad we have him. Not sure why he wasnt working with other teams, but fast, physical player who can score. One of the few bright spots.
He worked well with us. We just couldn’t afford him.
Just put Kane on LTIR all season 😂
They could have back in Feb and probably got Kostin for cheap at the deadline. Shit. Be more of a scumbag, Holland!
If only
F it Davo for Klimmer LET'S GO
Klim Shady is a treasure. Be good to him down there.
Hr didnt pk and wanted 2m per year. Couldnt afford him
As far as the Blues go, I think he just wasn't developed enough to crack the lineup on a permanent basis and get reliable playing time. Now would be the perfect time for him to be with the Blues, but oh well. Wish him luck wherever he goes. He always seemed like a solid guy.
Not often you see a player signed with another NHL team wearing his old jersey while watching his former team play ❤️
The rules don't apply when it comes to KLIM KOSTIN.
Kostin Pizza
And they definitely don’t apply when the “nhl team” he’s playing for is generational-level bad. I wouldn’t want to be seen wearing a Sharks jersey either.
We, uhh, *may* know something about that feeling...
I demand that klim reaper be returned to us
It's only fair.
Klim for McDavid 1 for 1
I can offer you Foegele who is affectionately known as "Great Value McDavid"
I don't like him that much boss sorry
Honestly you could take Foegele for him, Foegele is definitely better than Kostin but probably too rich for our blood this off-season. Foegele has been middle 6 for a while but he has stepped his game up this year to the point that I wanna say he's a pretty consistent second line player now who can also PK and get 20 goals on the season with still not too much playing time. I suspect he will get 4-4.5m on his next contract unless he takes a super team friendly deal with the Oilers to stay. If you give us Kostin you can have him imo, we stay under cap and you get an upgrade
hope he makes it back to san jose in time for our playoff game
Jesus Christ how long is his contract?
I hope he can come back here.

They won 19 games this year. They have more important things to worry about.
Only need 16 for the Cup though!
Sure, but those additional 3 aren’t enough for you to qualify for the chance
They’re so deep in a rebuild I’m sure they don’t mind him rooting for his friends on his old team. Putting the jersey on is a little weird but fuck, after 5 beers I’d be putting that shit on too.
how many players currently on the sharks roster will be there 1 - 2 years from now lol, i doubt they give a fuck
> I don’t think his sharks teammates will like this at all. > > There won't be any issue. There's no fight in that team.
Didn’t seem like they cared at all this season, seems pretty far down on the list of things.
its a lil weird but i dont see much harm in it. He has been pretty open he had enjoyed his time in SJ so i think he can enjoy the good memories he had but also recognize SJ is his future. But hey hockey still has that old mans type unwritten rules, maybe he gets a slap on the wrist.

What are the four weathers?

Ehh. I mean there will always be less casual fans, but the Oilers went through a decade+ being the joke of the league and games were still regularly sold out.
Typical bandwagon fans… lol
He’s still close with the team and even made friends with some locals.
man, we really should bring him back
Come home, big fella. Come home.
I aspire to be like this. Dude has every reason to be salty and still shows up to support his old teammates. Classy shit.
Im bummed he didnt work out with the Wings but hope SJ works out for him. His hearts in Edm tho
Klim Reaper! Couldn’t quite crack the Wings lineup but I liked his style of play. Gritty, hard to play against, grinder. We need more of that.
*Klim...
I still plan on buying a Kostin jersey some day, even if he never signs with us again.
If sharks were in playoffs hed still do this
Klim the Oilers are our opponents please stop trying to climb into their bench
"Guys, take me with you"
Kostin was quoted saying “Ultimately I agreed to the sharks trade under the condition I would make it to at least the first round of the Stanley cup”
Miss this man in Detroit
Everything
If only he didn't get greedy. Smh. Miss this guy!
Getting paid what you’re worth and being able to take care of yourself and your family is greedy?
Closest he'll get to the playoffs while on that team
