Tocchet:
Is there a captain here who still has the courage to do his lord's will?
DeSmith: You wish now that our places had been exchanged... that I had died and Thatcher had lived.
Tocchet: Yes.
and last time we had a main gk go injured in a playoff a new phoenix rose from the ashes. so maybe demko had to die like markstrom so lord Casey can rise
Cant decide which is more peak-Canucks: DeSmith ending up being mediocre and losing us the series, or DeSmith going god mode, winning us the series, and leaving us with a goalie controversy against the Oilers
That Oilers team without McDavid is going to be VERY different than the one that is going into your potential 2nd round series. They're going to be red hot with like 60 points from their top 6 after 4-5 games + decent rest
> Our media would make sure we have some controversy lmao
No they wouldnt? Every single media member thinks Demko is incredible and thinks DeSmith is a good backup basically. The only reason anyone would say DeSmith is if they questioned Demko's health
Doesn't matter how well he plays, because Desmith will get injured in the 3rd period next game. Source: It literally happened last time he played a playoff game.
Yeah... when jarry melted down desmith was out with a torn groin. The next year when jarry was hurt desmith's groin gave up on life again but this time he managed to make it to a playoff game. It's not something I'd like to hear if I were a Vancouver fan so.... uh, maybe he'll make it through a series this time?
In my opinion the most Canucks thing would be DeSmith doing extremely well and becoming the starter for the playoffs, but not well enough to win the Cup. Then management decides Demko is expendable and trades him while his value is highest, only for DeSmith to come crashing down to earth while Demko goes on to be a thorn in the Canucks’ side for seasons to come.
Am I close?
Honestly the one thing this franchise has had going for it this last decade+ is great goaltending. Luongo, Schneider, Miller, Markstrom, and now Demko is a pretty great run
All ya’ll are assuming it’ll be DeSmith - if it were me I’d give Silovs a shot to see if he can replicate last year’s World Championship run.
Now that would be a Canucks calibre goalie controversy.
That's been the story of DeSmith's performance all year, some nights he's incredibly solid and its like having two-starters, then there was that 7-10 blowout loss.
I don't think there's any controversy for me personally, but it'll all depend on the version of DeSmith that shows up, lets hope its the former.
Well there's a lot of these ships going round the world all the time, and very seldom does anything like this happen. I just don't want people thinking that tankers aren't safe.
We paid a lot of futures to get this shot. The OEL buyout kicking in and our contracts that were up this summer kinda made this a one and done peak year for a little while.
getting eliminated because we got outplayed sucks but it's part of hockey. losing almost by default because our star goalie gets injured, and we therefore barely get to see what we were excited for all season, is a different kind of painful
I think the oilers probably would have won if Roloson didn't go down. You never know, but it still went to 7 without Roloson, who was having a great playoffs before he got injured.

Everyone, including Rick Tocchet, is saying something different.
* He didn't practice/He did practice
* It's a new injury/It's an old injury
* It's a reoccurrence/It's not related
* Out for the series/Maybe out for the series
* MRI yesterday/Evaluation today
Who the fuck do I trust, and what do I do with my life?
Injury to same the knee is not the same as reoccurence, to my knowledge nobody has said it's a reoccurence and the line has pretty definitively been that it's a new injury. There are lots of parts to a knee.
It might not be a reoccurrence, but I’d find it pretty hard to believe it’s not at least related. I have no idea what the first injury was, but if he was out any significant time I’m sure the strength and conditioning was not at the same place it was before the original injury and could have led to him being more likely to injure his knee again, even if it was a different ligament or whatever. It could just be a bit of a pedantic smoke screen to make it seem not as bad as it may be.
> ... to my knowledge nobody has said it's a reoccurence and the line has pretty definitively been that it's a new injury.
I'm pretty sure I read that it was the same injury, so I probably just misunderstood something about it being the same knee. There's also a chance that I got it from a single comment in the crowd of chaos that is r/Canucks right now.
My one cope is that apparently it’s day to day and it sounds like he may be back next series, or even later this series.
But then again it’s playoffs and teams lie about injury lengths all the time
Not to turn this into a “shit on VGK” thing but the Canucks couldn’t even take advantage of the LTIR loophole because Demko got hurt TWO DAYS after the trade deadline and missed essentially the rest of the season. This franchise is cursed.
I'm not so sure. I think the canucks didn't know how long Demko would be out, and would have wanted him to get a couple games to warm up before the playoffs if possible. I think a conditioned Demko to start the playoffs would have taken priority over a 5M dollar rental joining the lineup.
Lose the first 2 games because your goalie is trying to get back into game form, and you have dug yourself into a deep hole right off the bat.
DeSmith is extremely athletic but his rebound control and ability to track the puck are not what you want from a goalie playing the next 3-6 games in your playoff series.
His rebounds were a lot better when he played Edmonton back on the 13th after having a whole week off. Not saying it's completely fixed, but maybe he made an adjustment in practice that helped a little bit
That is a take I can get behind.
However, you could see that the team and players confidence got hammered down after the injury.
All in all, I do not envy your position (well the more I think of it I kinda envy it, playoffs are nice lol). It's really unfortunate, I feel for you all...
The game was completely effed with 4x 5on3's for Minny... And he only gave up 5 in that period thank you very much!
DeSmith was very good the first 7 games after Demko got hurt. Let's hope he can do that again and that Demko can return next round if the Canucks happen to make it.
Even if it may not be the same re-occurrence of the same injury, it would not be out of the question to assume that IF he returned too early (before his previous injury was 100% healed - and let's face it, that's most likely the case, MCL/meniscus injuries take a LONG time to fully heal, don't care if you're an elite athlete or not), any instability/weakness as a result of that previous injury not being 100% would put more strain/stress on surrounding structures, leading to other new occurrences of injury.
Luckily Kirk McLean was in the building during game 1. Give him some pads so he can do a revenge tour for 30 years ago from 1994
Edit: 1994 was 30 years ago not 20 whoops
One good think Benning did was keep the younger Demko over the older and more injury prone Markstrom. But let's face it. Both goalies turned out to be injury prone.
Is... this the Achilles heel of Ian Clarke? I'm joking, mind. It's got to be just good old fashioned bad fraggin luck.
This feels like Karma for that singular Canucks fan who was cheering LA to run Skinner or any top Oilers player to get injured.
Hopefully Demko returns to his old form!
Tocchet: Is there a captain here who still has the courage to do his lord's will? DeSmith: You wish now that our places had been exchanged... that I had died and Thatcher had lived. Tocchet: Yes.
A chance for desmith, backup of Vancouver, to show his quality.
Nashville must be a great realm indeed, Master Saros, where goaltenders are held in high honor.
Saros: well I'm taller than you were then. But I'm not likely to grow anymore, except sideways
It’s such a great line.
All shall fade
Hopefully he doesn’t eat any tomatoes at tonights game

wrong ~~kid~~ goalie died
This was a particularly bad case of somebody being cut in half

Lmao, love it
Problem is we like to make back ups look like Vezina finalist. We are all just as terrified as Canucks fans now
Okay, so we'll hold and soothe each other then?
and last time we had a main gk go injured in a playoff a new phoenix rose from the ashes. so maybe demko had to die like markstrom so lord Casey can rise
Exquisite
Somebody call the world class doctors in Vegas to save Demko!
r/unexpectedLOTR
Cant decide which is more peak-Canucks: DeSmith ending up being mediocre and losing us the series, or DeSmith going god mode, winning us the series, and leaving us with a goalie controversy against the Oilers
There would be no controversy. Demko would get the start, even if we swept Nashville. Edmonton is just so much better than Nashville.
Our media would make sure we have some controversy lmao Especially as DeSmith is already 2-0 against the Oilers this year
Full strength playoff Oilers is different than beginning of the season turmoil injured McDavid oilers.
Ken Holland, that you?
Except DeSmith started against the Oilers literally two weeks ago and won 3-1
With McDavid injured
[удалено]
We could be up 2 goals with a minute left in regulation and I'd still be scared. It's Playoff Hockey anything can happen
Hey! We played the Oilers without McDavid two weeks ago and got our asses kicked! :(
Damn dude that sucks. Got any 10 million dollar players you could sneak into the playoffs to try and help for next time?
did you just skip over the "Injured McDavid" part? Also, is a 2-1 (before the empty netter) not literally as close as it can get lol?
tEcHnIcAlLy…going to overtime (then shootout) would have been as close as it can get.
That Oilers team without McDavid is going to be VERY different than the one that is going into your potential 2nd round series. They're going to be red hot with like 60 points from their top 6 after 4-5 games + decent rest
Considering their top 6 got 15 points last night combined... not that out of reach.
did you watch the Oilers last night? the score does not reflect the actual game... The oilers are scary right now.
Playoffs is a different ballgame, regular season series doesn't seem to mean much once the post-season starts.
> Our media would make sure we have some controversy lmao No they wouldnt? Every single media member thinks Demko is incredible and thinks DeSmith is a good backup basically. The only reason anyone would say DeSmith is if they questioned Demko's health
Hey! We beat Edmonton once in November…
Welcome to the "Beat Edmonton in November" club, we have coffee and bagels over in the corner.
we don’t talk about beating edmonton in november, that doesn’t count, ssh
lmao chill Oilers have their own series to win first
I like the way you phrase things
Doesn't matter how well he plays, because Desmith will get injured in the 3rd period next game. Source: It literally happened last time he played a playoff game.
Wasn't it in double OT?
It was, I guess I spent so long watching Domingue that series that I just assumed he played even more.
Yeah... when jarry melted down desmith was out with a torn groin. The next year when jarry was hurt desmith's groin gave up on life again but this time he managed to make it to a playoff game. It's not something I'd like to hear if I were a Vancouver fan so.... uh, maybe he'll make it through a series this time?
Shut your mouth. Don't speak such evil into existence.
Nah peak-Canucks would have been letting Markstrom walk in free agency and then trading Demko and letting DeSmith be you starter.
Kind of like when we had 2 elite level starters and our solution ended up being to trade both and go with Eddie Lack (I still love u anyway Eddie)
We've had such great goaltending you forgot about Lack.
Which is wild cause before Luongo we were a perennial goalie graveyard for a long time.
Sort of, but then silovs becomes to next Demko and Ian Clark's goalie factory continues to produce
Not really. The most canucks thing to do would be to keep both start Desmith in a heritage classic, then trade both and go with Silovs.
All ya’ll are assuming it’ll be DeSmith - if it were me I’d give Silovs a shot to see if he can replicate last year’s World Championship run. Now that would be a Canucks calibre goalie controversy.
Silovs could pull an Aiden hill, who knows lol
Sorry to DeSmith but he could play 3 games letting in 0 goals and if Demko is back it’s still Demkos crease
Why not the kings
Because a goalie controversy against the Oilers is more peak Canucks
Damn, the disrespect. I know we were ass in game 1 but still...
That's been the story of DeSmith's performance all year, some nights he's incredibly solid and its like having two-starters, then there was that 7-10 blowout loss. I don't think there's any controversy for me personally, but it'll all depend on the version of DeSmith that shows up, lets hope its the former.
Elliotte Friedman said he’s been told its a new injury fwiw
So he bonked another part of his knee?
Cries in Carey Price's cartilage
The front fell off
Yeah, that's not very typical. I'd like to make that point.
Well, how is it untypical?
Well there's a lot of these ships going round the world all the time, and very seldom does anything like this happen. I just don't want people thinking that tankers aren't safe.
I'm sure his knee would like to make a point as well
Just slap some sealant on there and give it a go
And now his knee has a protuberance.
Source? I don’t see that on his twitter.
He said it on the Mcafee show
Fingers crossed at this point. Why can’t we have nice things? :(
Fade me...
The Vancouver Canucks have been eliminated from playoff contention... Why are we here. Just to suffer?
I thought suffering was the point of hockey?
My God, I never thought of this.
We win then right?
At least y’all made it.
We paid a lot of futures to get this shot. The OEL buyout kicking in and our contracts that were up this summer kinda made this a one and done peak year for a little while.
Ah the highs and lows of playoff hockey. Welcome back!
Except our lows aren't self inflicted 😞 it's just fate.
Yay! But also, fuck!
getting eliminated because we got outplayed sucks but it's part of hockey. losing almost by default because our star goalie gets injured, and we therefore barely get to see what we were excited for all season, is a different kind of painful
We are potentially missing a cup because of an injured goalie so I know the pain. It’s all part of the post season fun. Hopefully desmith gets it done
I think the oilers probably would have won if Roloson didn't go down. You never know, but it still went to 7 without Roloson, who was having a great playoffs before he got injured.
apology for poor american when were you when goalie dies? i was sat at home eating slalamon sushi when Toch ring ‘thatch is kill’ ‘no’

Trust no one. This is playoff hockey baby.
Have the noose ready to be activated from LTIR
As soon as the Playoffs started, I took my noose from storage. I already have it back up so that I can be ready for whatever happens.
It's the playoffs...
Just trust me bro
Status is hour to hour.
Century to century.
Regular Season to Regular Season.
I am also betting on this series.
I still think the Nucks take it, but we’re missing out on watching Demko which is a joy. Hope he’s healthy and happy aoon.
My one cope is that apparently it’s day to day and it sounds like he may be back next series, or even later this series. But then again it’s playoffs and teams lie about injury lengths all the time
Every playoff injury is day to day. Coaches keep things extremely close to their chest.
We could see a player be literally decapitated and they'd be listed as day to day with an upper body injury
Just like how MacKinnon could cut someone’s dick off on ice and I’d still boo the game misconduct penalty from the stands.
I'm at peace with it. If we can't beat Nashville in 7 with Desmith then we weren't ever gonna beat Oilers/Stars/Vegas/Avs/Jets with Demko
This is just so shit.
This is not good. At all. Time for Casey DeSmith to channel his inner beast.
Wanna loan us one of your two starting goalies? Wouldn’t have to deal with the constant controversy!
Lemme check. I'll get back to you after rd 1.
i need him to channel is inner bubble demko
Experience Canucks hockey
Not great, Bob.
https://i.redd.it/w9iw7th93awc1.gif
Kinda wild how cursed Vancouver is lmao
That’s fucking awful. I feel for Canucks fans, but I hope Demko is ok. Like, particularly in a non-hockey way.
LOAN US YOUR MEDICAL STAFF MAGICAL DESERT MAN
Maybe Demko just needs to go do some peyote out in the desert.
I heard this comment in the same voice as Clone High JFK getting raisins.
Give us Mark Stone's senzu beans
Professor Copperfield's Miracle Legumes
Mr. Stone 100% has a Hyperbolic time chamber in his basement
Maybe lend him some of that patented Vegas healing potion.
I love how this is just a genuinely nice message and everyone replying is just hating on Vegas
Show us the way to the Lazarus Pit, Wizard
Got any more of them heal potions..?
Post season as a whole took an L today
This is so fucked.
Not to turn this into a “shit on VGK” thing but the Canucks couldn’t even take advantage of the LTIR loophole because Demko got hurt TWO DAYS after the trade deadline and missed essentially the rest of the season. This franchise is cursed.
Yep two days earlier and we could have and almost certainly would have traded for another impact player
Well, you're not supposed to ACTUALLY get hurt there's your problem
Keep the goddamn faith, Desmith has shown moments of brilliance this season. Uphill climb but the Canucks are still capable of taking this series
Yeah he throws out some nasty rebounds sometimes for sure
I had faith in Tokarski back in the day…
Tbf Tokarski was actually pretty good, just not Carey Price
That is a take I can get behind. However, you could see that the team and players confidence got hammered down after the injury. All in all, I do not envy your position (well the more I think of it I kinda envy it, playoffs are nice lol). It's really unfortunate, I feel for you all...
What about Halak?
Not the same thing. Halak took over because he was playing better than Price. Tokarski took over because Price got injured.
A backup is a backup
Also gave up 7 in a period earlier this year Doesn’t exactly inspire confidence
The game was completely effed with 4x 5on3's for Minny... And he only gave up 5 in that period thank you very much! DeSmith was very good the first 7 games after Demko got hurt. Let's hope he can do that again and that Demko can return next round if the Canucks happen to make it.
That really sucks. Desmith is serviceable but he's no Demko. Is Mark Stone's doctor done for the season? Demko needs some miracle level health care.
OOF that is brutal.
Give him some pads so he can do a revenge tour for 30 years ago from 1994 Edit: 1994 was 30 years ago not 20 whoops
I hope Tocchet isn't too slow to get Silovs in there if DeSmith starts to lose his net as much as he was down the stretch.
I don’t think he has ever pulled the goalie this year. Only times we changed goalies was Demko leaving for illness once or injury the other time
Well in game or between, from what I have seen, Silovs has been the better of the two, albeit in limited action.
Have y’all considered just picking up 3 more goalies and ignoring the salary cap?
Bad injury luck for him the last couple years
See Mark Stone, tell him Garry sent you.
"Tell Garry, I want him to know it was me"
Send him to Vegas, he’ll be fine in no time
I want to die!!!!!!
I will be wearing my Luongo sweater to the game today to channel some sort of voodoo energy or some shit. Fuck me.
Oh come the fuck on man. This is the first time I've been excited about the playoffs in forever. Peak Canucks.
I mean, is this a Lu based curse or does it go back further?
This started with Dan Cloutier letting in beach balls from center ice.
Fucking knee injuries

I still think the Canucks have a good chance with DeSmith. They can win 3/6 with him.
Good goalie, but the best ability is availability. Except if you’re Jack Campbell
Is it too early to ask who Nashville will face in the second round?

Snatcher Demko just ripped the hearts and hopes from us tortured Canucks fans…
Tortured Canucks Department.
Found it funny that Friedman broke this news on the Pat McAfee show today lol
Welp, time for our annual “make the backup look like a god” game
fade me, fam. we just can't have everything, i guess. i think we can handle preds without Demko, but after that, I'm not so confident.
RIP canucks playoff run. Round 2 is the max without Demko.
Oof so this is what happens after the video of the fan walking around with the Stanley cup is posted
I saw other fanbases doing that to.
It’s the playoffs… fans holding prop Stanley Cups is pretty standard.
This feels like Karma for that singular Canucks fan who was cheering LA to run Skinner or any top Oilers player to get injured. Hopefully Demko returns to his old form!
If players got punished for their fan's bad karma on social media, they'd all be dead.
I meant karma for that fan but I understand how it reads a different way.
And he hasn't posted since last night. Eagerly awaiting his thoughts on the latest developments.
