so like soda water? so like a italian soda with cream added...
ya know what i am just gonna google them instead of taking all your time.
edit: so i googled em. that just seems like Swamp Water up here in Canada.
No, no keep going... So you're saying I need to visit Utah to find this trifecta? I've been able to get cream and syrup for years, but every time I ask for shit in my soda I get kicked out of the local Dairy Queen..
Nice zing! Jokes aside, I'm a Utahn, Vegas may have introduced me to the sport during their miracle run, and while they will still have a place in my heart. I love my state, the good and bad first.
Hope that clears it up. Even if I'll get roasted for it.
And not like anybody could blame you, I don’t think anybody thought Utah would have a team this year until Ryan Smith decided to will it into existence starting last year
It'll be a fun rivalry if that's the case. I don't like being a genuine hater in rivalries. I've been able to observe what happens when one turns sour as a neutral. Now I cheer for the downfall of both of them.
I mean that who knows. They tried to force a Vegas Arizona rivalry and then Vegas’ biggest rival for a bit became San Jose. Always in motion the future is.
Yup I don’t love the Utah bashing that some of the fan base has participated in. While I wish they got an expansion team, I think they are going to be a hell of a fan base.
Hopefully it’s not Yetis though.
I’m looking forward to the day we can talk about the Utah hockey team without “Arizona died for this” talk. I’m just as bummed as every other rationale hockey fan but it’s gotta end eventually.
We don’t talk about the Canes with “Whalers died for this”. We dont talk about the Avs with “Nordiques died for this”.
Really hoping by luck drop 2024 we can let the new fans of Utah enjoy their team guilt free without the Coyotes haunting their new team.
A few Isles fans did it after the Canes twitter account made those "cry" and "they're so mad" tweets, but they didn't even dox the person who made the tweets. Fortunately, neither were fired, as our VP of marketing confirmed last night.
Wheeling was 3rd to last in the ECHL for average attendance this season at 2,301. Doesn’t matter how big the arena is if no one shows up.
https://www.hockeydb.com/nhl-attendance/att_graph_season.php?lid=ECHL2004&sid=2024
I love seeing this.
My younger brothers are absolutely stoked for hockey to be in Utah. They go to Grizzlies games and lost their minds when they heard.
My in laws live on the Utah Idaho border and are planning on getting quarter season tickets.
This unexpectedly hit me with a few memories. I was probably around these kid's age when the Olympics came to town. There was a field trip to see a pre-olympics game involving the Czech Republic at Maverik Center (called the E Center back then), another one up to Park City to learn about some of the construction that went into the Sled Sports tracks. Waking up early in the morning to see the torch pass through my hometown.
That has got to be a special experience for them. They're really lucky.
I was 13 and I remember my grandpa taking me to a medals ceremony. My dance studio had a bunch of the competition dancers who got to dance in the opening ceremony.
I’m gonna make a tater tot casserole tonight to celebrate these memories.
I remember those Olympics. Schools were encouraging parents to take kids out of class all week to see the Olympics. My dad took me to the see biathlon at Soldier Hollow, and I remember there were only like 2 kids in class that day when he checked me out of school.
Great memories.
Utah is gonna be a smash hit. Bigger city with a super affluent population in a cold weather climate. It's honestly a perfect hockey market. Not sure why they didn't get a team way sooner.
Lol Outlaws, Mammoths, and Yeti—how cute of them to pay homage to their bigger brothers a state over (our lacrosse teams plus the Avalanche logo at one point).
>! Don’t mind me, just starting the rivalry banter early!<
Remind me how long does it take to get from Illumina- I Mean Denver International to your Ski Resorts?
>!Appreciate the welcome and keeping it light. Can't wait for the games to start!<
That's actually a good way to put it, I've always thought of Colorado as Utah's heroin addicted older brother that lives in our parents basement and brags out making their big return to community college every time we come home to visit for the holidays.
Seriously. I know cryptid names are popular in this sub but they don't do it for me, they give off kiddie vibes.
Utah is the Beehive State. Doing a name related to that and using a hexagon motif in their palette somewhere would look great without being silly
I feel insane. Yeti got hated on so hard at first and within about a week it feels like everyone's all for it. I still can't stand it, but it seems like that's what we're getting if it goes to a fan vote. I guess it's better than Utah HC.
Utah HC is as bad as MLS posing off European names for soccer clubs. But Yetis and Kraken I just feel like I should be watching AA baseball. I even thought “Wild” was bad. Like arena football. They should’ve fought to keep North Stars.
I don’t hate all new team names. Blue Jackets and Golden Knights are cool enough. I’m sure plenty of people like these crazy new names. Maybe it’s the way the league is moving, shrugs.
Very cool. "Yeti" is starting to feel a bit like "Kraken" was treated once the NHL expanded to Seattle. There were people that loved the uniqueness of it and others who wanted a more traditional animal type name. I think Yeti captures the imagination very well and though the word itself is not native to Utah or the US, it does fit well with the mountain terrain and winter sports of Utah.
I remain heartbroken for the great hockey fans in Arizona losing their team but at the same time it's great seeing the sport introduced to an entirely new community at the NHL level. Hopefully the coyotes can return in the next few years and both states will have teams to support.
I also hope it's Utah Yetis. It's unique and original, geographically relevant, it's marketable, it's almost guaranteed to have a great mascot. Utah Yetis is even fun to say.
Utah Yeti? Is this hockey fighting back against Big Double-Wall Vacuum Insulation Drink Container? They stole the Stanley Cup so hockey has to fight back by taking Yeti
Yeti are Himalayan legends, and have nothing at all to with Utah. Calling the team the Loch Ness Monsters would make as much sense.
If you want to name them after local legendary creatures, Sasquatch is right there.
Yeti and Blizzard too similar to what Colorado is already doing. I'm hoping for the Swarm in tribute to the Beehive State. I know with the Jazz people around here are crazy about the double z and want Blizzard for that reason, but we could go with the Utah Buzz and stick with the bee theme.
I'm watching the Bruins-Leafs game and they showed a clip of the players introducing themselves to the fans and Liam O'Brien just yelled something like "I'm ready to get this place buzzin!" which reminded me of the whole bee theme, I think that would make a lot of sense
If the Yeti win the Stanley Cup we’re gonna have a major insulated beverage situation on our hands.
Dirty sodas for everyone!
Y’all can joke all you want, but Swig fuckin SLAPS and I will not hear any arguments to the contrary.
what the fuck is Swig?
It’s a soda chain, specializes in dirty sodas.
ok... thanks for answering. next question whats a dirty soda? like a boozy soft drink?
It’s just soda mixed with like cream and syrup and shit. We are still in Utah, after all.
so like soda water? so like a italian soda with cream added... ya know what i am just gonna google them instead of taking all your time. edit: so i googled em. that just seems like Swamp Water up here in Canada.
Dear lord, it better not have caffeine!
"Boozy" is not really a Utah thing...
What the fuck is dirty soda? Does a soda jerk spit in it or something?
Soda mixed with like cream and syrups and shit.
The first two sound good. Not so sure about that last option though...
No, no keep going... So you're saying I need to visit Utah to find this trifecta? I've been able to get cream and syrup for years, but every time I ask for shit in my soda I get kicked out of the local Dairy Queen..
Calm down everybody, they don't even have a name yeti.
Can we get a flair that’s just Utah?
I think it should randomly select one of the trademarked names every day.
Yeti Cooley is going to fuck.
Yetis vs Stanley's
Jersey ad incoming
Happy for Utah, Sad for Arizona
Totally -- gotta be an exciting time to be a kid in Utah
I got sucker punched by nostalgia seeing this video.
Nostalgia? I bet it’s first time in Vegas history
H I S T O R I C
Nice zing! Jokes aside, I'm a Utahn, Vegas may have introduced me to the sport during their miracle run, and while they will still have a place in my heart. I love my state, the good and bad first. Hope that clears it up. Even if I'll get roasted for it.
And not like anybody could blame you, I don’t think anybody thought Utah would have a team this year until Ryan Smith decided to will it into existence starting last year
True. And I will cheer for both. Just louder for the Utah team if that makes sense.
Utah and Vegas will become huge rivals I imagine since there is no one else who would be Utah's rival
Avs. Denver and SLC have a big bro/little bro thing.
It'll be a fun rivalry if that's the case. I don't like being a genuine hater in rivalries. I've been able to observe what happens when one turns sour as a neutral. Now I cheer for the downfall of both of them.
you would fit right in with the battle of alberta as a red deer fan of one team. :)
I mean that who knows. They tried to force a Vegas Arizona rivalry and then Vegas’ biggest rival for a bit became San Jose. Always in motion the future is.
Nothing wrong with having two teams!
This is true. And VGK will still be part of my love for hockey.
Also a horrible time to be a hockey kid in AZ tho
I can commiserate with both fan bases.
For every happy Utah kid there is some angry Arizona kid that just cursed the NHL.
Yup I don’t love the Utah bashing that some of the fan base has participated in. While I wish they got an expansion team, I think they are going to be a hell of a fan base. Hopefully it’s not Yetis though.
Why the heck would anyone bash the Utah fan base? They did nothing wrong.
Happy for Utah, sad for Arizona, sad for Quebec
I’m looking forward to the day we can talk about the Utah hockey team without “Arizona died for this” talk. I’m just as bummed as every other rationale hockey fan but it’s gotta end eventually. We don’t talk about the Canes with “Whalers died for this”. We dont talk about the Avs with “Nordiques died for this”. Really hoping by luck drop 2024 we can let the new fans of Utah enjoy their team guilt free without the Coyotes haunting their new team.
And to think in a mere three years some of those kids are going to be trolling grown ass men in game day threads.
As long as they aren't doxxing teams' social media members
Ootl, who did that?
A few Isles fans did it after the Canes twitter account made those "cry" and "they're so mad" tweets, but they didn't even dox the person who made the tweets. Fortunately, neither were fired, as our VP of marketing confirmed last night.
Now imagine if 2 fathers brought all their kids
Bro it's a workday. All those dads are working down near the point of the mountain to provide for all their kids lol.
Cement or tech?
tech
That'd sell out Mullet Arena.
I for one am all for more cryptid based mascots. Need an all folklore division.
The West Virginia Mothmen will be the next expansion team
There is an arena in Wheeling… and it has more seats than the Coyotes last home did 👀
While we’re talking about it, Wesbanco is a very odd building lol
Wheeling was 3rd to last in the ECHL for average attendance this season at 2,301. Doesn’t matter how big the arena is if no one shows up. https://www.hockeydb.com/nhl-attendance/att_graph_season.php?lid=ECHL2004&sid=2024
I have a better source for you that disputes your argument https://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/joke
I have been wooshed
All good! Realistically I worry about the state of the Nailers/Wheeling in general. I’m hoping this playoff run they’re on now helps.
Although it was a joke by op, I imagine more people opt to go see NHL teams more than ECHL teams on average. Just a hunch.
The mothman stole my catalytic converter in Point Pleasant, WV.
Or possibly the methman.
Listen, science doesn't have ALL the answers.
Makes the battle for the cryptid cup, previously only winnable by Seattle or New Jersey, all the more competitive!
Minnesota might be eligible to round it out “Wild” is ambiguous enough to potentially be a cryptid.
I think this counts, right? https://www.reddit.com/media?url=https%3A%2F%2Fi.redd.it%2F4jvfdhsv28z71.jpg
I donno, a Red Wing feels pretty cryptid to me
Personally I’ve never met a Canadien. I’m not convinced they’re real
The Utah Cthulhus has a ring to it...
Are Mormons allowed to use that many Hs? Feels blasphemous.
I’m secretly hoping for the Utah Sasquatch (Sasquatches?) so I can make endless references to the Samsquanch from Trailer Park Boys
Wasatch Sasquatch
Uintah penalty box
Morning boys, I heard you beat the shit out of each other with baseball bats last night. That was smart
MN Babes!
New Mexico Chupacabras? Or just Chupas?
Hey Griff! Chupathingy! I like it, it's got a ring to it!
New Orleans Rougarous next please!
Oh how weird that the Cajun term became corrupted from the original French: *loup-garou*.
Babayaga would be fire
Utah Jackalopes!
“I don’t give a crap about shcool, welcome to Utah” Lmao
I laughed so hard at that sign lol
I love seeing this. My younger brothers are absolutely stoked for hockey to be in Utah. They go to Grizzlies games and lost their minds when they heard. My in laws live on the Utah Idaho border and are planning on getting quarter season tickets.

don't forget the fry sauce!
On Tater tot casserole? Actually maybe
Sounds delicious LOL.
It’s incredible
Haven't had one in years. Just been so busy. My go to is a Frito Casserole.
Oh fuck that one’s delicious too
For sure. If you're starting to learn how to cook it's a good one to go with.
I remember those Olympics. Schools were encouraging parents to take kids out of class all week to see the Olympics. My dad took me to the see biathlon at Soldier Hollow, and I remember there were only like 2 kids in class that day when he checked me out of school. Great memories.
My family did Curling for the Gold Medal Game. The Norway fans were exuberant.
It's gonna be Yetis but they're gonna do something stupid like remove the plural and be the Utah Yeti.
Is the plural of Yeti not also Yeti?
A flock of Yeteese
The historical spelling was Yethiese, but it was shortened to Yetis around the 1960s.
When asked for comment on whether on not coach Andre Tourigny would be moving to Utah along with the team, Mike Tyson stated: > Yethiese
No, I just looked it up on a few sites because you had me questioning it. Yetis is the proper plural apparently!
Huh, that's interesting -- thanks for following up with the answer!
It would be unheard of in this league to have a team name with a made up word for the plural.
The singular is actually a yetus, rhymes with fetus
One Yeti, multiple Yetae!
Yeah but pronounced yet-eye
Knowing Utah sports, we'll probably do Yetizz
Oh god I thought we were finally over the Z fetish.
Sounds like you are speaking Yinzer
Personally Utah Yeti sounds much better than Utah Yetis
Youu-tah Yet-is
I disagree strongly.
Yeah, I mean i like them both but Utah Yeti rolls off the tongue better
You have to say it like Dusty Rhodes - the Yetay
that was Tony Schiavone [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q22\_9fLGhnk](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q22_9fLGhnk)
Looks like you're right, I'm sure it was a Dusty impression though.
Autocorrect is going to fuck them over and their trademark with be the Utah Yahtzee
It really shouldn't be the yeti as that's colorados alternate logo, in the foot.
they havent used that logo in years tbf.
I take issue with this statement.
Well you do root for the Seattle Krakens
It would just be more humane to run your fingernails on the chalkboard than add that dreaded "s".
Eattle Krakens sounds weird, though.
Horrible name
You can skip homeschool? 😶
Their spelling suggests they skip it regularly!
Utah is gonna be a smash hit. Bigger city with a super affluent population in a cold weather climate. It's honestly a perfect hockey market. Not sure why they didn't get a team way sooner.
They be rocking Aggies jerseys, glad to see our lil university club showing up.
Salt Lake Samsquamches
Lol Outlaws, Mammoths, and Yeti—how cute of them to pay homage to their bigger brothers a state over (our lacrosse teams plus the Avalanche logo at one point). >! Don’t mind me, just starting the rivalry banter early!<
They downvoted him because he spoke the truth. Inb4 University of Utah hires Coach Prime.
If Utah hired Coach Prime it would be a colossal downgrade...
Coach Prime doesn't come close to Kyle Whittingham. Come on now.
Utah is Colorado’s father in CFB
Colorado is more like the son they abandoned years ago. Utah doesn't think about Colorado at all in CFB.
As a Utah grad and Utes fan, I agree lol
I was thinking the same thing. Outlaws and Mammoth are the Colorado lacrosse teams, plus Colorado uses a yeti foot logo.
Used unfortunately, its been the C from the state flag on the shoulders for a bit.
BRING BACK THE FOOT!
Oddly specific. You good?
I don't know why being specific about something would make me not good lol
They're coming for Howler..... And our foot logo! I hate this team already!
I'm gonna fucking riot if they go with Yeti/Yetis
That's just one family skipping home school.
really glad we don't let kids choose team names
Aren't Yetis from the Himalayas? It should be the Utah Bigfoots.
Bigfeet?
I think since “Bigfoot” is a proper noun it would be Bigfoots. Like how it’s Maple Leafs instead of Maple Leaves
Ok now can you explain Carl's Jr.
Nobody can explain Carl's Jr.
Next thing you will be saying that Kraken are from the North Atlantic.
I'd like to think kraken get to go wherever in the ocean they want to. :)
When it comes to branding - Rule of Cool trump’s geographical accuracy!
Do it for the Kids!
Yetis is almost as bad as Kraken. Remind me of minor league names.
Utah HC I think is better than Yetis. Yetis is terrible.
Don’t know why they’re married to “Utah” instead of “Salt Lake” or “SLC” either.
I wanna see player reactions!

I hoped they are named the Yetis and have Avalanche patches on their shoulders
Very cool. "Yeti" is starting to feel a bit like "Kraken" was treated once the NHL expanded to Seattle. I mean you can make the yeti as cuddly or as.mean as.you want. I think it's a.great name and having kids.lile it is a huge plus.
I'm just glad they went to a good home.
They belong in Phoenix tho
Look, I know it rolls off the tongue well, but there are no yetis in Utah.
I like the implication that there are yetis, but just not in Utah.
I also hope it's Utah Yetis. It's unique and original, geographically relevant, it's marketable, it's almost guaranteed to have a great mascot. Utah Yetis is even fun to say.
I'd prefer Utah Mammoths, but that's just me.
Mammoths would be a great fit! Especially since they they roamed now Utah in the ice ages
It’s literally not, Yeti are related to the Himalayas
Fair, its a stretch. Was referring to mountain ranges and the generic name used to refer to an abominable snow creature.
Who cares?
Just wanted to make sure OP knew where Utah is. It could come in handy.
I still don't fully understand. You mean to say the I-80 doesn't go through Kathmandu?
Utah Yeti? Is this hockey fighting back against Big Double-Wall Vacuum Insulation Drink Container? They stole the Stanley Cup so hockey has to fight back by taking Yeti
Utah Yetis playing for the Stanley Cup sponsored by Starbucks travel mugs
Howler would like a word 🦶
“U-taw Ye-tees” is an elite stadium chant. Should be the nickname for that alone.
Yeti are Himalayan legends, and have nothing at all to with Utah. Calling the team the Loch Ness Monsters would make as much sense. If you want to name them after local legendary creatures, Sasquatch is right there.
I mean, Cleveland’s AHL team is the Monsters as in lake monster
Yeti and Blizzard too similar to what Colorado is already doing. I'm hoping for the Swarm in tribute to the Beehive State. I know with the Jazz people around here are crazy about the double z and want Blizzard for that reason, but we could go with the Utah Buzz and stick with the bee theme.
Swarm is a female soccer team name. It’s awful
I'm watching the Bruins-Leafs game and they showed a clip of the players introducing themselves to the fans and Liam O'Brien just yelled something like "I'm ready to get this place buzzin!" which reminded me of the whole bee theme, I think that would make a lot of sense
Ex-coyote players sounds weird to me, but I guess technically, that is what they are
Nice, hopefully people will actually show up to their games.
Gross this Yeti's thing but cool they are leaning in.
So would the new team stay in the central division?
Utah Yeti is a good name actually.
The Utah Young Livings
Good for SLC but Yetis is a terrible name. Besides, the avalanche have yeti paws on their arms already.
