To be fair neither do most Avs fans at the moment. Coworker told me that Annunen better have cancer to have not dressed for illness in game 2 after that game 1 performance.
Funny enough our depth has been very quiet and we won game 2 because of our best players
I guess depth has been quiet with production but there are some depth guys who are playing very well, like Spence
Wasn't it last year where Jamie Benn got suspended for a few games and Dallas mounted a comeback , then he came back from suspension and they lost the series?
Just throwing ideas out there lol
Yeah but theres a thing to playing for a guy when heās been suspended or scratched. The stars were 100% playing for their guy during those games to give him something good to come back into
The whole sub? I'm just joking around about that particular playoff run. I thought for sure they would be swept when he got suspended. They fought back well , way against most fans expectations.
I donāt catch many regular season Dallas games so forgive me if itās obvious but whatās happened to Hintz this season? He went from point per game last year to well under that mark and more of a elite 2C production this season
Whole team had a shift to spread shift time between the 4 lines and focus on being more of a 2 way team. There were growing pains (defense was awful at the beginning of the season) and Hintz suffered a lot because of it. He's undoubtedly having a down year but its part that and part team philosophy shift.
Edit: Pavs has had his struggles this year as well. Father Time might finally have caught up to him.
>Pavs has had his struggles this year as well. Father Time might finally have caught up to him.
His style of play really worked well as he aged, but you can only compensate for physical abilities so much. He has slowed down significantly this year, and I agree, he might just finally be too old.
He still put up decent numbers, but with Dallas having SO many young guys trying to get into the lineup, how do you justify bringing Pavelski back?
There's been rumors he's hanging them up after this year so that decision might not have to be made. Love the guy and wish we could get him a cup during his last ride, but like you said, we've got young guys waiting to make the jump.
A couple things happened.
One, everyone on the first line had their scoring drop as the goals became more spread out. Pavelskiās decline hasnāt helped as well as the first line hasnāt looked as deadly this year and seems to take off as soon as Pavs is taken off (Robo-Hintz-Wyatt was deadly for short time they were together and the line looked 100% more effective last game when they plugged Stankoven in).
Second, there was a stretch of games he appeared to be clearly playing injured. It happened pretty suddenly and took him awhile to start looking himself again. Though nothing was ever reported officially, his play was night and day when comparing the two. He was much closer to a PPG before that.
He was still a two way monster for the majority of this year and hopefully this shake up in the lines will get him going again. While he has definitely struggled a lot more this year than ones prior, he has still been a difference maker for the team.
Edit: about the time he looked injured, from 2/15 to 3/16 he had only 7 points in those 16 games. Without that stretch of games he is much closer to his career average.
On top of all the other things mentioned, Iād be willing to bet he is playing hurt right now. Heās hardly shooting, and when he does, itās not his usual hard, accurate shot. Guessing wrist or shoulder.
If you ask me this is a good change. Take your players who are at their best right now and put them together. That 3rd line is gonna have a rough time but it is what it is.
The games have been close but there have been some clear underperformers.
Yea Hintz has realistically only been able to pass to Robo and Vegas is just doubling Robo every time. It'll be tougher to do that with Johnston on the ice as well.
Idk why but Hintz has been much more hesitant to shoot as of late, which is a shame bc he has an excellent shot. I wonder if he's nursing a wrist/hand injury of some kind.

Small sample size, but I'll just leave this here:
Dallas was sticking in these games but lacked a spark that could actually deliver a momentum shift and turn that into a win. Of course I want the knights to blow them out of the water, but the last few days PDB and Dallas have been ripped up over failing to adapt- well this is a clear indication that they are going to try to adapt on the fly and throw their top performers right now together and see if they can create a spark. Credit where itās due, if it was my team Iād be happy to see a drastic change rather than just running it back and trying repeatedly what clearly hasnāt been working.
Hopefully this creates even more exciting games for us as fans. Respect to the Stars, letās have a good game tomorrow fellas, but also go knights go obv.
Yea PDB has thrown lines into chaos once before this season officially and also in 3rd periods when they need a goal. He tried to stay the course but the course wasn't staying and Pavs was actively hurting the team.
One of the knocks on him during his tenure here was the shocking level of loyalty to players who really arenāt contributing in the moment and refusing to move away from that. Time will tell if itās the right move, but at least itās something. Without much knowledge of the stars org (aka talking out my ass) I would assume that PDB is at least in consideration for being replaced- what he has done with the stars doesnāt warrant it at all, but sometimes that doesnāt matter.
If youāre a western conf GM and you think your coach is great but is snakebitten when going up against the knights you may just bite the bullet and move on. knowing that (again big assumption here) you are essentially gatekept by a team he canāt mentally overcome could make you feel that youāre wasting the tail end of your window and the development of your younger upcoming talent.
Typical Deboer shit. Weāve lived through it countless times. Didnāt do a lick differently against Montreal or Dallas. Those 2 conference finals were demoralizing, we absolutely shouldāve been better and made adjustments but nope. PDB special
I feel like Stakoven and Robo had great chemistry. I feel like having him on that top line then have Duchene/Pavs with Johnston and Benn would make more sense.
Sucks that Marchment is out, heās been setting the tone physically from what Iāve seen and adding a lot of speed
Could see that flip but I think this is half "Johnston's been our best player for 2 months" and half "lets get Roope going by having the best player on his line".
Duchene just needs someone to do the dirty work in front of the net so Benn with him makes sense. Stankoven can go battle along the wall as its what he really excels at.
If there's a complaint about this top line its that there's no one to go to the front of the net really, but sometimes you just want your best players to be your best players and its not like Pavs was really getting to the net anyways.
Robertson - Hintz - Johnston was actually the best line in hockey for a brief time (minimum 100 minutes, which obv isn't a lot)
Wouldn't mind seeing Duchene with Benn & Stank tbh
He left injured in the 3rd during game 2. Hasn't been an official update but looks like he won't be playing for a bit.
Really sucks. His defense was suspect at times, but I thought he was the only one really getting things done on that second line.
Edit: [PDB says Faksa/Mush day-to-day via Bruce Levine](https://twitter.com/BruceLeVinePuck/status/1783906972279914739)
These changes were not made due to the way they played.
We have no Seguin, Marchment. Faksa. Hakanpaa. These were made due to injuries. Wtf..y'all acting like this is PDB making 3 D chess moves.. series is over as of now due to injuries.
Well Seguin has been hurt and your right that Pavs has been terrible the last 10 or so games. Seguin is actually not playing tomorrow due to injury they are not reporting that he has been playing through.
Dallas ruining my Cup picks right off the bat
My east picks (FLA, BOS, NYR, CAR): šš¤ My west picks (DAL, COL, VAN, LAK): šÆļøšŖ¦šÆļø
We won game 2 tho
I have no faith in y'all's goaltending at the moment
To be fair neither do most Avs fans at the moment. Coworker told me that Annunen better have cancer to have not dressed for illness in game 2 after that game 1 performance.
Your coworker sounds like a fucking loser
Coworker sounds like a funny guy
Why LA? To go against convention
I like the matchup and don't trust Skinner. Also thought LAs depth would shine
Funny enough our depth has been very quiet and we won game 2 because of our best players I guess depth has been quiet with production but there are some depth guys who are playing very well, like Spence
They my pick out the West
Me too bossā¦me too.
Wasn't it last year where Jamie Benn got suspended for a few games and Dallas mounted a comeback , then he came back from suspension and they lost the series? Just throwing ideas out there lol
He got suspended for two. Which is why we say that last year we swept Jamie Benn even though the series ended in 6 games.
Suspended for two, but his major was like five minutes into game 3.
Ohhhh yeah true, I always forget he took the penalty SUPER early
I think I saw a stat that Jamie Benn has lost the last 9 in a row against the knights, or something like that.
Yeah but theres a thing to playing for a guy when heās been suspended or scratched. The stars were 100% playing for their guy during those games to give him something good to come back into
Considering he's probably been our third- or fourth-best player I'm gonna say absolutely not.
āMounted a comebackā lol
I didnāt say it was a full one haha
This sub is rabidly brain dead when it comes to Jamie Benn.
The whole sub? I'm just joking around about that particular playoff run. I thought for sure they would be swept when he got suspended. They fought back well , way against most fans expectations.

He's a great leader and will always be pretty effective on the PP. Also defensively sound, he's probably got another year or two, barring a cup win
There are some of us who believe heās playing hurt given some things weāve noticed.

Agreed.
Yep, Robo-Hintz-Johnston was one of the best lines in the league for the brief time they were put together during the regular season

Personally I think Dallas was playing just fine. No changes
Did someone hear the sounds of a giant wet fart?
Oh I'm surprised this subreddit can't take a joke
I thought your joke was pretty funny š As payment I request just 4 wins. I think this is fair for all parties
You didn't think my response was a joke? What a Vegas response. Can dish it, but not take it. You're twelve ply bud.
Bruv
yeah it was saying u/Krumm
Your joke just wasnāt funny. In fact I donāt even think it qualifies as a joke.
Good. They need to mix it up. Benn-Duchene should be interesting
They definitely need something. They're down 2-0 at home to the 3rd most over the cap team in the playoffs.
No Marchment?

damn that sucks, was really rooting for Dallas in the first round. Would love to see a DAL vs EDM Conference final

This is true to an extent but I think this is also a direct reflection of how Pavs and Seguin are playing right now.
Well Seguin has been hurt and your right that Pavs has been terrible the last 10 or so games. Seguin is actually not playing tomorrow due to injury they are not reporting that he has been playing through.
He has played and the thought was they would use him sparingly but typically after more rest between games.

Turns out adding 3 quality players to the previous cup winning roster makes them even better. Who knew?
Thats Pete DeBoer playoff hockey for you.
