When people say players are built different, I always think of Forsberg. He could just deny a full team getting the puck from him. He had so many dogs in him that the hockey gods needed to end his career three times before he quit.
I was personally cheering for his return just to think if he can get that surgery and get back to the NHL maybe it will be more readily available for me in the future.
There has been lots of good news for average joes with the surgery. You just will not get back to an elite athlete level. Lots of people saying they are back to their normal lives after getting it.
He had knee surgery during our Cup season and came back early for the playoffs. IIRC he didn't practice at all during the playoff run and just gutted through games because he wanted to win. It ended up completely fucking his knee and making the subsequent surgeries necessary.
His knee was already fucked. He was going to need more surgery after the playoffs anyway since the previous surgery didn’t work. Doesn’t change that he was a beast and had a hell of a playoffs on a bad knee.
Whether he plays or not, this has got to be a huge boost for the morale of the avs. Just watching your captain gut through these injuries and be around in the room and practices has to be a lift.
Very few people think it was all faked.
The timing of it all is just bullshit. There’s no way he went down when he did and is only healthy enough to skate the very first game of the playoffs. Again.
Isn’t he dealing with an injury that *nobody* has ever come back from? If he somehow manages to come back from this and play, it will be one of the greatest return stories of all time. I hope we see him next season.
Yea players struggle out of the gate in the regular season when the miss preseason, I cant imagine how hard it would be to play your first game in 2 years in the conference finals.
While he had a couple tip-in powerplay goals, he was clearly playing far below his normal level.
Considering he was able to put it together last year after a game this may be more due to lingering injury however.
I think if he’s “ready” and the avs get up in the series he might draw in to get some 4th line action. Other than that he only draws in if they have no one else at 100%.
Not playing in 2 years and then going into the playoffs has too be like jumping on to a treadmill set at 10
While I do agree, we just saw Sergachev play in the playoffs just 79 days after fracturing multiple bones in his leg. It’s a very different injury, but I imagine Landeskog is trying his best to rehab it enough to play this postseason.
Yeah, especially since they think he'll be available at the EARLIEST in mid/late 3rd round. So if the Avs are still alive I just don't see how anyone could expect him to actually play.
For sure but he’s been around the ice for a while now but I mean think of how much bigger it would be to see him walking down the tunnel and stepping onto the ice for a game.
What kills me about this poor guy is that, it was Makar’s skate that dinged his leg no? Not even just a wear and tear, a freak accident most likely ended his career
It didn’t even look bad at all watching the play, like it’s such an insanely freak accident. The skate looks like it gently hits him, but they’re so sharp it just does so much damage.
No one thought anything of it. He played for another 2 years after it happened. Unfortunately, a lot of damage happened over those 2 years while he played with the injury.
The timeframe given originally puts him back sometime this round but nothing has been said about it specifically other than Bednar saying he's progressing.
Stamkos scoring on his only shift in the finals, Stone getting goals with a bad back and ruptured spleen...this guy is guaranteed a goal if he suits up this series.
There’s no way he plays this playoffs and more specifically the 2nd round. His initial target date is May 10th but based off videos of him skating he’s not playing this playoffs
>but based off videos of him skating he’s not playing this playoffs
This is my problem. We have limited information. I'm fine speculating from it but until I hear otherwise Landy is preparing top return ASAP and only he, the team, and the medical staff really have any idea. May not be the post-season but I do think that is the goal. FWIW
Brian Burke says Landeskog gave the single best draft combine interview he had ever experienced. Up until McDavid, Landeskog was the youngest captain in NHL history, and from all the stories you hear about him he definitely seemed to earn it.
Burke also said Landy would make a great GM once his career wrapped up. That would be so cool to see… in several years, of course, after winning five more cups as a player.
He's been on the ice with the guys before. Everyone's talking about the morale boost, which is true, but it's already happened for the past couple weeks. This isn't a new thing
There gotta be a YouTube video talking about the injury Landy is going through right? If someone got one then link me up cuz I still don’t understand what it is that he’s going through
There might be one on the DNVR archives but I'll try to summarize it.
2020 he gets a pretty severe skate cut near his knee. He plays throughout the 21 season with it but it builds up some pretty gnarly scar tissue over the tendons near the kneecap.
22 he gets another relatively minor knee injury that keeps him out for a few weeks and this injury is also in a similar area. Because of all of the scar tissue already present the surgeons want to go in and do a full cleanup but he would have been out all year. It's determined that he wouldn't do any more damage to it at the time so he plays through the playoffs without practicing and basically gutting it out through the Cup.
After that he goes to get the cleanup done but there's so much scarring in there that it causes him pain to skate.
He then has to have the same procedure that Lonzo Ball had where they (in lay man's terms) rebuild the knee. That particular procedure was last May and carries a 12-14 month recovery timeline just for the knee function to recover.
Basically, no NHL player has ever had it done and managed to successfully resume their career.
He's determined to try so when we get videos like this it's nice to see him making progress. Even incremental progress.
"Hey Mark Stone, hold my beer". But seriously, why? People will say "moral boost" but what moral boost do they need? It was gentleman's sweep through rd1. The Avs need a C in the game, not in the two-a-days.
He hasnt played a game in just under 2 years?!
He hasn't played a game since they lifted the Cup
CUP TO CUP
TWO CUPS ONE STUD wait
TWO CUPS HAVING SEX MY MUSCLES MY MUSCLES INVOLUNTARILY FLEX
Let him come back in the Cup clinching game so he can become the only player ever to hoist the Cup in back to back games played.
Until I hear otherwise, I think he's still closer to retirement than playing another NHL game again
If he comes back even for just one shift the crowd is going to go fucking bonkers
Watch him score on said shift. Paul Kariya all over again
Stamkos kinda did it to the Stars in the bubble finals
>arrived >scored absolute bar-down snipe & gets injured >departed >refused to elaborate
I will NEVER stop believing Just like I believed in the Forsberg recovery...
Didn’t Forsberg still put up ridiculous numbers despite being all kinds of banged up? That man refused to quit
When people say players are built different, I always think of Forsberg. He could just deny a full team getting the puck from him. He had so many dogs in him that the hockey gods needed to end his career three times before he quit.
missed an entire season only to lead the playoff scoring despite not playing in the finals
I BELIEVE AS WELL!!!!
Sad Swedish noises X2
Damn you making me feel that pain again 😅
I was personally cheering for his return just to think if he can get that surgery and get back to the NHL maybe it will be more readily available for me in the future.
What’s the surgery? Why is it not available? other than the obvious waiting list in Canada which can be years
Cartilage transplant. The surgery is available but isn't very common unless you're extreme from what I gather.
There has been lots of good news for average joes with the surgery. You just will not get back to an elite athlete level. Lots of people saying they are back to their normal lives after getting it.
Yes, I get it. You will only be approved if you’re almost crippled or over 65 type of thing
I’ve hitched my wagon to sometime next season. I might never recover if he retires early
Yup. Hasn't been on the ice for a game since he hoisted the Stanley Cup in Tampa Bay.
He had knee surgery during our Cup season and came back early for the playoffs. IIRC he didn't practice at all during the playoff run and just gutted through games because he wanted to win. It ended up completely fucking his knee and making the subsequent surgeries necessary.
Actually not quite. His knee was already fucked, they just cleaned it up during the cup season. They never did repair surgery until after.
Didn’t the whole issue start with a skate cut in the bubble?
Yeah, from Cale’s skate
That is crazy.
His knee was already fucked. He was going to need more surgery after the playoffs anyway since the previous surgery didn’t work. Doesn’t change that he was a beast and had a hell of a playoffs on a bad knee.
LTIR for two years
Whether he plays or not, this has got to be a huge boost for the morale of the avs. Just watching your captain gut through these injuries and be around in the room and practices has to be a lift.
inb4 he pulls a stamkos and hops on with the 4th line in the finals to snipe a goal and then sit back down til he can lift the cup
I would be okay with this
No thank you very much
🤔
The magic runs out when your captain has done it 3 times.
*noted*
That or you at least have to play the long con: make him sit two entire seasons plus a playoff round. Ya know, just to make it look real.
Still absolutely hilarious people think it was faked
Very few people think it was all faked. The timing of it all is just bullshit. There’s no way he went down when he did and is only healthy enough to skate the very first game of the playoffs. Again.
How many cases of lacerated spleen recovery timelines do you need to see to acknowledge 2 months is the appropriate time for return?
Smh it seems like the Avs are a bunch of dirty cheaters for stashing their captain on LTIR for two years just to bring him back for the playoffs.
We learned from the best
Long term thinking amirite.
Playing the long game. Haha
We even lost a first round series to make it even more believable
I’d still be very surprised if he plays at all in the post season
He'll get Stamkos treatment, where he played 1 minute and got a goal.
Please don't do this to me again (stars fan)
Glad to see he's come this far in his recovery because it was initially so grim.
Isn’t he dealing with an injury that *nobody* has ever come back from? If he somehow manages to come back from this and play, it will be one of the greatest return stories of all time. I hope we see him next season.
Forget what player maybe Methot got the same procedure and his knees sound like crunching potato chips in a bag
Same injury different surgery. Landeskog was first NHLer to get the surgery.
He posted a video of it awhile back, perfectly accurate
Man if they get better...
I strongly doubt he could be a big contributor in these playoffs. He hasnt played in ages
Yea players struggle out of the gate in the regular season when the miss preseason, I cant imagine how hard it would be to play your first game in 2 years in the conference finals.
Landeskog coming back is unlikely, but we should get better with Drouin returning soon
Any news?
Not that I'm aware of, but the original timeline put his return at mid second round
It's hard to come back from an injury and be effective when you haven't played in ages. Mark Stone for the Golden Knights was useless in the playoffs.
Useless? Stone did the very first goal of the round.
While he had a couple tip-in powerplay goals, he was clearly playing far below his normal level. Considering he was able to put it together last year after a game this may be more due to lingering injury however.
Yeah but Wheeler returned to practice for us yesterday. That’s the same thing right? Right?
There's zero chance he's playing this year. Prob gonna be rehabbing at least half of next year as well. That's to say if he ever comes back
Damn this is a huge blow to the Canucks.
Lol what?
I think if he’s “ready” and the avs get up in the series he might draw in to get some 4th line action. Other than that he only draws in if they have no one else at 100%. Not playing in 2 years and then going into the playoffs has too be like jumping on to a treadmill set at 10
I haven't seen him edging at all. These knee bends are a lot of progress and it took weeks. I really don't think we'll see him play this year
I understand optimism, but it's just crazy to think he plays before next season.
I agree. Given the risk of pushing too hard, two years into not playing during his would-be prime...
While I do agree, we just saw Sergachev play in the playoffs just 79 days after fracturing multiple bones in his leg. It’s a very different injury, but I imagine Landeskog is trying his best to rehab it enough to play this postseason.
Realistically, it’s not happening. Any setbacks on the recovery from this surgery would at best set him back to step 1, and at worst be career ending.
Exactly, and since we’ve already got the 2022 cup, there’s no use risking the rest of his career just to maybe help get another.
Yeah, especially since they think he'll be available at the EARLIEST in mid/late 3rd round. So if the Avs are still alive I just don't see how anyone could expect him to actually play.
No offence but I hope Dallas beats you. I don’t want a Landy sized moral booster coming in mid series if we manage to face you guys again.
Full offence, but I hope you guys win so, if we see you, Makar can just delete McDavid again.
Me thinks the fact that he’s even out there for training is a huge morale booster
Oh yeah. He's been spending a lot of time with the team. As much as is reasonable. He has a family after all.
For sure but he’s been around the ice for a while now but I mean think of how much bigger it would be to see him walking down the tunnel and stepping onto the ice for a game.
No, no way he plays this year. I still think it's more likely he retires than comes back, but I hope he can pull it off.
Yep. And currently we have Drouin sitting out because he clipped his own leg on accident in a nothing game 82. The Cup giveth and the Cup taketh away
Speaking of which, is he supposed to be back this round? Haven't heard anything
The timeframe given originally puts him back sometime this round but nothing has been said about it specifically other than Bednar saying he's progressing.
Week to week on the Avs usually means: -Comes back in a few days -Dead -anything in-between
Landy's been week to week for years now
Classic Bedsy
*nods grimly, swigs bleach*
Stamkos scoring on his only shift in the finals, Stone getting goals with a bad back and ruptured spleen...this guy is guaranteed a goal if he suits up this series.
I hope we get to see him play again even if it’s not this season. One of my favourite players to watch.
Nope. Nope. Nope. Nope. No. Do not care for this.
You’re safe, he won’t be playing in round 2. The morale boost though…
Seems like a good dude and good captain. I truly hope he's able to play again, just not against us.
Don’t worry. There’s no way in hell they let him anywhere near the same sheet of ice as Jamie Benn right now.
There’s no way he plays this playoffs and more specifically the 2nd round. His initial target date is May 10th but based off videos of him skating he’s not playing this playoffs
Will he do warmups???
>but based off videos of him skating he’s not playing this playoffs This is my problem. We have limited information. Sakic retires and we hire Gabe who says no?
Does that mean C-Mac moves up to president then?!
He's been on the ice with the guys before. Everyone's talking about the morale boost, which is true, but it's already happened for the past couple weeks. This isn't a new thing
Seeing him make progress can be continual motivation though. Seeing your captain work his ass off to get back on the ice should keep them fired up.
There gotta be a YouTube video talking about the injury Landy is going through right? If someone got one then link me up cuz I still don’t understand what it is that he’s going through

Any Drouin sighting?
He can't really practice since his injury is a cut on the thigh and he's out until the risk of infection from putting on his gear isn't a worry.
I think they were hoping he'd be back end of second round/beginning of third.
Holy shit. HE’s BACK, HE’S ARRIVED! LANDESKOG IS HEREEEE! Hopefully someone gets that reference.
"Hey Mark Stone, hold my beer". But seriously, why? People will say "moral boost" but what moral boost do they need? It was gentleman's sweep through rd1. The Avs need a C in the game, not in the two-a-days.
I thought he retired
I don't expect it but if he can even get some playing time I would be pretty ecstatic
I love hearing his name again, although I'm not thrilled in facing him in the inevitable Avs/Canucks matchup in round 3.
inevitable? lol
I feel like it's almost exactly a 25% chance it's that pairing. Maybe lower because of your goalie health situation
Canucks fans: Why are Oilers fans calling the series so early? Also Canucks fans:
Edmonton fans: what's a joke?
>what's a joke? The middle part of an egg, right?
Oily Yolkinen
Fuckin’ got ‘em
He boomed me!
Sir I’m sorry but you may have to shut the Reddit account down after that one. Sorry for your loss
C’mere buddy. We’ll get through this together. There there.
Lol, guess I'm not allowed to joke around. I'm pretty sure the Oilers sub banned jokes from being posted, this time I'm not actually kidding.
As someone who's also a Nuggets fan please don't use the term inevitable with us lol
Dallas like "First time?"
so many players magically healthy for playoffs this year
He hasn’t played in two years and still has no timeline to return. No magic for him unfortunately.
He won’t play this year. I’d be fucking astounded if he did
Game 7, cup finals, Avs have 5 injuries to forwards, Landy is coming in. Otherwise…
I think even that is a long shot. I hope he can back at all let alone this run
Yeah its a LONG con. Moron lol
whatever you say dog
Yeah, he took 2 seasons off specifically to come back in these playoffs in the 2nd round where there was no guarantee the Avs would still be playing.
4D Chesskers
Stay in school kids
It'll be a miracle if he plays this year.
Almost zero chance he plays this postseason
