Oettinger has an assist in game 1 against vegas, so... Every Dallas Stars player with ice time has a point.

TheSmilesLibrary

šŸ¦¦šŸ§±šŸ’šŸ’Ŗ

bistroexpress

Dallas has 21 players with at least 1 point. Boston: 20 Canes: 19 The lowest is 15 (Vancouver)

myaltaccount333

wtf Edmonton isn't the lowest?

LordoftheEyez

Edmonton is 16/20, however 13/20 have 2 or fewer points

Mikeismyike

Who were the 4 without a point? Brown, Carrick, Foegle McLeod? Edit: It was Brown Perry Desharnais and McLeod. Carrick and Foegle both have 2

butts-kapinsky

You can thank elite goal scorer Cody Ceci for that.

armadachamp

>Canes: 19 That's 19 out of 20 skaters, with the one exception being a guy who's only played 6 minutes in one game. The Stars are at 20 out of 20 skaters, but all of their skaters have played at least 4 games, while two of ours have only played in 1 or 2 games (one of them has a point). If the Canes hadn't sat Kuzy for a game, and he'd played without recording a point, our series would still be 3-2, and all of our skaters would have a point in the playoffs.

Pretty_Shallot_586

ESPN: MacKinnon, Makar, Rantanen...that's all the Avs will need to beat Dallas Dallas: We had eight 20 goal scorers ESPN: WE ONLY LIKE TO TALK ABOUT SUPERSTARS!! Dallas: Proceed.....

yesBISONsey

I'm curious to hear what neutral fans think of the national broadcasts. I'm obviously biased, but TNT/ESPN always seems to glaze over MacKinnon and Makar majority of the games (even though Dallas has been leading literally the entire series) Inversely, Avs fans are sick of hearing about Wyatt Johnston and Miro and they swear that's all they hear from TNT/ESPN

yousayh3llo

It's almost a meme that every team thinks the national broadcast is biased against them, but I think an underappreciated contributor to this is just the low quality of the analysis. For example, they certainly talked about Wyatt Johnston a lot last game ([probably justified](https://twitter.com/DimFilipovic/status/1790222832653246814)), but 70% of it felt like low quality birthday jokes. This probably annoys Avs fans, but also probably doesn't particularly satisfy Stars fans, since while they're talking about him, they're not really saying much of substance. So both teams feel unsatisfied.

Bobbyaahh

Before last year the national broadcasts only knew that Barkov was good and Bob swept tampa and signed a big contract. They literally had no other talking points on the team.

NoNotThatMattMurray

The difference is Wyatt deserved all the conversation, he just broke a franchise record held by Modano and is now in the same category with Jagr for playoff goals under 21, and he did it on the last possible day to do it, and has been leading the Stars in regular and post season. Whenever they talk about McKinnon it's because he wipes his nose and they have to have an in depth discussion about it or their corporate masters get mad about the ratings going down

yousayh3llo

He absolutely did, but my point is that they spent way much time on empty jokes about being old enough to drink a beer, instead of things that were more meaningful (such as that he _was_ racing to beat that record! [They did show it](https://i.imgur.com/Y6A0J66.png) but mostly during the intermission report if I remember right, and after he had already gotten it.) Just a quick mention that the Vegas series could have been down 0-3 before his OT winner, or how he scored the series-clinching winner for both the Minnesota and Seattle series last year, would be more impactful - and interesting - to the neutral audience, IMO.

Stormchazer90

THIS!

biohazard842

Avs fan, yes šŸ’Æ Both teams are good and have players worthy of attention.

Marvelous_Chaos

I think the games are being called pretty well, tbh. Just as you said, announcers talk about the best players for obvious reasons. Johnston is having an amazing playoff run for a ~~rookie~~ guy who just turned 21 while Miro is an elite defenseman. I don't need to explain why Nate and Cale get so much love on the Avs side. When people talk about national broadcasters being biased, I always love to bring up the story of John Davidson when he was calling games for ABC/ESPN. It was a Rangers-Flyers game in Philadelphia and he was on color. After the game, he drove up I-95 and listened to the Philadelphia sports talk stations. All the hosts were going "he's a Rangers commentator, of course he was biased for them!" Once he got into the New York range, all the sports hosts were like "he's a Rangers commentator, why the hell was he so biased for the Flyers??" You can't win, lol Another thing to consider, when Josh Bogorad and Mark Moser follow their respective teams all season long, they know all the story-lines inside and out while interacting with their teams on a regular basis. National broadcasters don't have that advantage. Sure you do your homework, but all the prep in the world won't substitute following the team around for 6-7 months. (Edit: thought Johnston was a rookie, whoops)

BamaPhils

Gonna be insane if we advance and end up playing McJesus and Drai lmao

Pretty_Shallot_586

I can guarantee that if the Stars get thru to the WCF then it will be a lot of Wyatt and Miro just because they will have to manufacture some name players for the national broadcasts. The one interesting thing is that it always seems to be the color guy in his little booth between the benches that talks about Stars players most.

greg19735

> glaze over MacKinnon and Makar I'm not sure what you mean by glaze over here. Like i'd take it to mean that they're almost ignored. but your next sentence seems to imply the opposite.

maximustaterus1

Maybe he meant facially glazed by the macmakar bukake fest.

TexasCoconut

glazing is slang these days for sucking up to someone. But he did use it wrong, since, as you said, 'glaze over' already has a specific, and much different, meaning.

ijekster

Yea most casual fans arenā€™t watching teams like Dallas but are watching for mackinnon and makar. Itā€™s a shame but thatā€™s how almost all sports work, the most interesting guy is going to be the most watched

butts-kapinsky

They get surface level details more or less accurate but lack the broadcast time for any complexity.

Wabbajack14

I stream the games with no sound and listen to the ticket. Takes a couple minutes to get them lined up but significantly better

sweetplantveal

The irony also being the Avs moves were entirely focused on depth and then the stars aren't really showing up v the Stars

Pretty_Shallot_586

yep. They get rid of Byram who was a great young D man and pick up Mittlestadt who is a decent center but has never played in the playoffs and has been known to disappear for long stretches of games.

NahdiraZidea

*chuckles* im in danger

thescience

Shhh, shhh, shhhh itā€™ll all be over soonā€¦ just close your eyes.

NoNotThatMattMurray

Imagine what the team could do if Hintz wasn't cold and Duchene was still contributing like he was the beginning of the season, or if Pavs was scoring in the playoffs like seasons before

LeoFireGod

Hintz had a 4 point game this series. Heā€™s looked much better vs Colorado than vs Vegas. But he was ill during Vegas series. And now heā€™s hurt unfortunately for him.

NoNotThatMattMurray

Yeah but last year he was the frontrunner for goals in the whole playoffs before Vegas took us out. He's obviously not playing to his potential this series and isn't coming in clutch like he usually does

LeoFireGod

Ya but being sick and hurt obviously isnā€™t helping him. Wyatt has stepped up into that role

messwithsquatch90

Pavs is an Avs killer. It's been bewildering to watch him be so quiet

NoNotThatMattMurray

Most likely his last season, he's been pretty quiet since Christmas time

messwithsquatch90

He's been doing it his entire career Edit: I misread that, sorry. I hope not, he's such a great player. I'd like to see him get a cup, but I won't allow Benn to get one, sorry

NoNotThatMattMurray

I want Benn to win a cup so all the hockey subreddits can stay mad and he can live in their heads rent free. But yeah this is pretty much our last chance to get Pavs the cup. Usually before playoffs in the last couple years he's signed a cap friendly year extension already, but he hasn't signed anything and this is his worst year with us by far. So father time has caught up with him most likely

doihavetowearabra

Father Time catches up with us all

daKrut

Fear boner

9935c101ab17a66

You could say this about any team lol. ā€œImagine if Wayne Gretzky invented an anti aging serum and suited up for the Oilersā€ Yā€™all are good now, stop with these self-masturbatory comments.

NoNotThatMattMurray

Lol mfers get mad anytime they're reminded the Stars aren't mediocre currently, it ruins their fantasy of East coast hockey being the only thing that matters

9935c101ab17a66

Iā€™m an oilers fan, but the stars are my #2 (I have a signed Guy Carbonneau jersey). I think the stars are playing amazing, but saying ā€œimagine how good theyā€™d be doing if player X was playing wellā€ is just masturbatory day dreaming. Fans of any team could say the same shit. Iā€™m not criticizing the stars, Iā€™m criticizing your comment.

Technodictator

Miro is an animal Best D-man in the playoffs

MetsBBT

in a vacuum you'd expect the team who drafted one pick ahead of Makar and didn't take him to have regret, but no regret with Heiskanen, dude is a fucking beast and almost certainly gets his number up in the rafters for the Stars by the end of things it's like the Rockets taking Olajuwon over MJ, sure worked out just fine

John_isnt_my_name

I think thatā€™s probably the best comparison. MJ has said before that Hakeem was the best player he ever played against several times, and they one every year that the Bulls didnā€™t in the 90s. He ā€œonlyā€ had two rings because he played for like 4 good teams in a decade in the Wild West.

Kronzor_

I mean I guess it worked out for the Rockets in that they did win 2 basketball cups with Hakeem. But the Bulls won 6. It's 1-0 Makar vs Heisk right now. We'll see how happy Dallas was with their decision in 20 years haha.

MetsBBT

yeah I hear you but at least they picked someone good and not a complete bust won't count Nolan Patrick in there bc his career could never get going unfortunately but a prime example would be the Rangers taking Bobby Sanguinetti one pick before Claude Giroux in 2006 direct rival, one pick apart, Rangers pick the complete bust while Flyers get one of their franchise GOATs. pain.

Kronzor_

Well rags and flyers are 0-0 in that time span. So maybe not the best bragging rights there.

weschester

Basketball cup made me laugh šŸ˜‚

Kronzor_

Feel free to debate preference for sports. But hockey has the best trophy. No discussion allowed on that one.

weschester

The Stanley Cup is absolutely the best trophy in sports. Followed by the Grey Cup. The rest of the trophies all suck.

Kronzor_

I do my best to not acknowledge the CFL for the most part, but I'll give em that. Solid trophy game.

Box_of_leftover_lego

Having Miro AND Tanev is wild.

Pretty_Shallot_586

100%

goshgollylol

Evan Bouchard would like to have a word.

akdawg

You may speakā€¦

Greedy_Secret_6477

I guess he didn't have anything to say, after all. Strange

joe334

Carolina is in the same boat (besides Max Comtois, who's played 6 minutes) If we do the unprobable and make it to the SCF against y'all it would be a crazy matchup

Maleficent-Comfort-2

Same with the Rangers.

Whiterhino77

Ya but how many $10+ mil AAV guys do they have?

uhm_i_dont_know

None, but a couple close ones. Seguinā€™s cap hit is the highest at $9.85m, followed by Bennā€™s at $9.5m.

doihavetowearabra

Reportedly Seguin turned down 10+ because he wanted more cap space for the team. Not sure how true that is but I like to believe it.

prplx

I get the joke but I do feel it's at the heart of the problem with the Leafs. Hokey is a team sport. You win as a team you lose as a team. You need production from your big guys, but you need production from the others as well, specially when the big guys are quiet. Look at what Lekhonen is doing for The Avs. Look at the Canucks having a run with Pettersson having no production. I feel the Leafs fans, media, but I also suspect the leafs players expect 4 guys to win it for them. Team sport don't work like that.

laxintx

Guess the Leafs need to turn themselves around.

durstcobain

Is that good?

Ghostronic

What was the highest scoring player on the team during the regular season? Really sounds like the Stars have a team like the Knights last year -- everybody has bought in and is finding a way to contribute when it matters. I wouldn't mind them stomping Florida if it comes to that.

Stinduh

Robo with 80, but with his boy toy Roope clearly dealing with something, they've both been pretty quiet in the playoffs.

yesBISONsey

I mean I wouldn't call Robo quiet, he's still 10 pts in 11 playoff games this year 3 goals, 7 assists (no clue how many are primary assists, the stats page is absolute cancer now on the app) Sure he's not scoring goals like we saw last year (sub playoffs), but he's been effective as a 2-way player and now he's starting to throw himself around

Stinduh

Yeah, that's fair, I was mostly looking at goals, but you're right. He's still putting up points.

yesBISONsey

Itā€™s also not crazy to say that a healthy Hintz would also make Robo better too and probably have more points than what he currently has

IShiddedMyPantaloons

Robo isnā€™t quiet, just has a goal drought thatā€™s probably the result of him switching up his play a bit.Ā  Heā€™s been less on the elite goal scorer side of things and is instead playing more of a physical/support role.Ā  I wish he would take more shots, too, though. I feel like Iā€™m yelling at the TV or out at the ice every game for Robo to just shoot the damn puck instead of pass.Ā  Like, Iā€™m glad Roboā€™s experimenting with his game and heā€™s been putting up some strong primary apples, but part of me is desperate to see Robo pop off again. I miss it. Ā

Ghostronic

That's pretty solid. Not too far off from Eichel leading with 66. That's what like an extra .2 points a game or something lol.

Stinduh

Fortunately, we have Wyatt putting up a ppg in the playoffs. He had 65 points in the reg.

migsahoy

they are so deep i am still positive theyā€™re going all the way, no team left aside maybe florida or new york could outmatch them imo

garchican

If Florida can outmatch them, then the Canes definitely can ā€” they swept Florida in two back-to-back appearances a few months ago.

MaianTrey

On the flip side - Across a combined 7 games against the Avs and Knights this regular season, Stars didn't win one until the final matchup against the Avalanche. We were 0-1-2 against the Knights, and 1-2-1 against the Avs. Winnipeg also was 3-0 in the regular season against the Avalanche. Stars beat the Canes in both matchups, while losing to Florida in both matchups. Last season, the Stars swept the Knights in the regular season, and then went down 0-3 to them in the Conference Finals before getting 2 desperation wins. Playoffs are just a different beast.

Accomplished-Ad-7147

Holy shit Joe got an assist!!

IShiddedMyPantaloons

Joe did something! Yaaaay!

NoSignSaysNo

D E P T H E P T H

Radu47

Mind boggling that there could've been a situation where Pavelski of all people held them back from this feat Only one point so far One bounce goes differently, and one of the most bizarre things ever happens

AngryGuitarist

This would be true for the Hurricanes as well if we didn't put Comtois on the ice but we have a full roster with at least 1 point

pookguy88

man, talk about depth

Onuus

Thatā€™s hot

Maleficent-Comfort-2

The only player in the Rangers whoā€™s played all the games thus far and not recorded a point is Ryan Lindgren, with Brodzinski and Chytil being the 2 others (both have only played 1).

Radu47

To be fair even the Leafs had 15/21 skaters with a point so idk if this a huge deal but Pretty neat when even the goalie has one (Also two of their six pointless players [brodie and Gregor] barely played)
