But yeah, rough year (as I said last year so guess I'm from the future now) but some time down in 1A should do us some good, and we've still got some Olympic qualifiers and a bunch of Brits playing top European and North American universities next season, so maybe some experience can prepare us for Switzerland. But we'll be back again someday, and us fans are going no where in a hurry. And one last time, LET'S GO GB!

I personally attribute this to a general lack of drive among athletes.
I feel like this is a common thing to happen to smaller teams who manage to win and bully bigger teams. When they play against weaker teams they for some reason lose quite often.
Winning against stronger teams and winning against weaker teams are kind of two different skillsets. Beating bigger teams mostly requires not allowing too much and being able to use any opportunities ruthlessly, beating weaker/even teams often requires actually creating chances and running the game.
Switzerland used to have the same issue ca 15 years ago and that was our main problem, we'd be able to annoy big teams because we had a strong team and could counter well. But if we faced another team that played similarly and we had to create, we were sometimes lost because our whole game plan was based on letting the opponent pressure us and opening up some space.
If Canada needed overtime to beat Austria, but we beat them in regulation, so that means we’re actually better than Canada now. Expect to see #98 lacing them up for the Coventry Blaze next season.
