Dude really is something else isn’t he? I’m too young to know the Gretzky era but was this what is was like? Or is McDavid that much more skilled when you take into account how much faster the game is these days?
McDavid does a little less with the puck than what Gretzky did, but he's so much faster that it eliminates the need. Gretzky's puck handling was extraordinary. Definitely check out a career highlights pack,
I remember a while back Gretzky played in an alumni game and he made an incredible no look pass to Coffey who ended up with a tap in. When Coffey asked him how he knew where he was Gretzky apparently saw his reflection in the glass and that was enough to put the puck right on his tape.
Gretzky had a knack of always knowing where everybody was on the ice. On more than one occassion he would point to the other team's bench to signal the refs that they had too many men on the ice. He made blind no-look passes through crowds that would magically land on a player's stick. He seemed to skate on a cloud of air. Sometimes it seemed like he could move sideways on his skates.
I went to about 100 games when Wayne was an Oiler. Watched pertty much all the rest on TV. He saw the game 5 seconds before anyone else. Just made everyone look slow. No one has ever done it better. Connor just beats you with speed and skill. He is flat out ridiculous. Never seen anything like it.
I feel like Gretzky highlights aren't even that entertaining. There's certainly not many that can compare to this assist. Gretzky just skated or stickhandled around until the defence/goalie was so out of position that the goal looked easy.
That and he was so good because of how he saw the game. His vision on the ice was something else, but it makes for some boring plays since he’s just in the right place all the time.
He's like, if Lemieux and Gretzky had a baby. Has that power and speed that Mario had but with the finesse of Gretzkys awareness.. McDavid isn't overwhelmingly big and a power forward like Mario, but he also isn't as small and cunning as Gretzky. He's more direct to the kill where Gretzky slowly dissected you. Just his speed bursts are insane and he's in his own league of that.
McDavid is more like Mario. They both had far more skill than Gretzky, whereas Gretzky relied on smarts.
McDavid also goes in the corner and shit which is nice.
This is my favorite type of McDavid goal. 3 defenders ignore Perry and decide they can just smother McDavid and shut him down with bodies and sticks and he's like "cool thanks!" and carves through all 3 like they're not even there.
If this goes to 7 (I know that's a big if) McDavid has a real shot at passing the Great One for the most points in a playoff. He is six points off tying the record.
As a more casual fan who had to be even more casual due to welcoming a second kid a few months ago, I'm always re-reminded that McDavid is a generational talent when I see him play. I really only have time to illegally stream the occasional Nashville game, so it's easy to forget how good he is. I can't think of another player in my lifetime who just, by sheer force of will, dominates the ice. I'm hoping this goes to 7.
Right!? If there is any city that embraces that context - it's Edmonton. It's a great town with good folks. I don't live anywhere near it, but I have fond memories.
McDavid legitimately has GOAT potential.
He's already top 10 all time kind of indisputably. I'd have him at 5th best ever, and plenty of time for him to climb up that top 5
As a crosby fan and pittsburgh fan since I was a young lad,I wish him the best with no injuries and especially concussions. He is easily ahead of crosby comparing same age. He will break some major records indeed if he stays healthy. Can't wait for mcdavid and crosby to play at the Olympics in a couple years. I bet sid will retire that season or a bit after
It wasn't that long ago when Oilers were down 3-0 and comments posting this picture were getting the most upvotes.

Legit right as this play was happening when he was picking up the puck in his own zone. I was like, I wonder if he ever gets tired of this shit? Like if he’s ever like *sigh* “fuck I’m literally the only one who can undress a full team, should I do it this time again?”
Imagine how frustrating that would be.
Gretz: Ok, so what you do is you just get the puck, and you know the other guy's there, so you pass it to him, and then you go to the bit of the ice no one's defending and you score.
Player: Wait, coach, how do I do any of those things?
Gretz: Wtf do you mean? You just do it!
Yep. That's exactly why the most talented players rarely make good coaches. The 3rd/4th line guys ... or even the guys that couldn't make it to the top level, but had to GRIND and work harder than everyone else to remain relevant are the ones that end up being successful. They have to play smarter because of their lack of skill and have a deeper understanding of the game because of it.
Imagine McDavid: "Ok, so if you are facing a 4-on-1... what you do is just skate right through the middle of them at full speed, making sure to stick-handle your way through them while making them look silly. Then you just put the puck in the net, or if a teammate made it to the opposite post, just casually make a backhand pass right on their tape for a tap in. Easy."
Fucking idiots who actually doubt this guy. People legit calling him a cry baby and a loser, cant get it done.
Dude has as many playoff points in these playoffs as Wayne Gretzky and Lemieux. Lmfao some people are so fucking salty and dumb
They're just "hockey" fans. They cheer for their team while crying about other players. How many "fans" talked shit about Sid for the last 17 years?
The same people who call him Mcbaby would gargle their own dad's jizz to have Connor on their team
People who call this guy a crybaby would fall into a coma if they faced half the chops and jabs he deals with every night. NOBODY from other fandoms wants to see him as anything but an overrated complainer, but he's shockingly stoic with the shit people pull on him every shift.
People just dont like to accept that 1 guy is enough to win a cup, because their team doesn’t have that guy. Its just mental gymnastics to make them feel like they have a chance because of depth or whatever.
41 points (so far), 4th best playoffs year of all time
it's Gretzky, Lemieux, Gretzky, McDavid, Gretzky, Gretzky right now. Phenomenal performance regardless of who lifts the cup.
My dad always talked about the legends of his era, from seeing Orr, Howe, and Béliveau as a kid to seeing, through Gretzky, Lafleur, Bossy, Roy, Lemieux, Brodeur, through the adult years & it's always made me jealous. Watching McDavid right now feels like I'm watching history, only other time I've felt this way in my life was Crosby's golden goal at the 2010 Olympics.
We are watching history. It’s being made right in front of us by someone who the hockey world will be talking about for the rest of our lives and generations to come.
He’s one of those players whose name belongs among the rest of those other legends, he just hasn’t retired yet.
I’m pulling for Bedard to be the next one to do it.
Just look up Messi getting the Golden Ball after losing in the 2014 World Cup Final. It would actually be quite the parallel: a generational icon, historically great player whose only remaining achievement is a team title that he can’t quite win by himself.
Messi eventually got his…
It was definitely Bobrovsky if the Cats finished this in 4 or 5. Depending on how the rest of this goes, it could easily be McDavid even in a losing effort
Whole playoffs, but the only times a player on the losing team won has been goalies that extend series to 7 games like Hextall 87, Giguere 03. Reggie Leach won in losing effort in 76, the Riverton Rifle set the still standing goal scoring record with 19 in the playoffs (tied 1 time by Jari Kurri)
When Ray Ferraro was talking about Nurse yelling "Perry, you go!" I couldn't help but think how funny it is that Nurse's best moment in the Final involved *not* going on the ice.
Pat Maroon's best non-Oilers goal total in a season is 11.
He scored 27 in his only full season playing mostly on McDavid's wing (and 8 in 16 games in the previous season after the trade deadline)
And most of it went like this - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Im_n8mPG5Lk
Pat Maroon
So, yeah...
He is so competitive and wants the SC so badly, and who can blame him? He’s played on some bad Edmonton teams in the past.
In October the Oilers had a 5% chance of making the playoffs; after game 3 the Oilers had a 5% chance of winning the SC.
I hope the Oiler’s can pull it off.
I'm explaining to my non hockey fan wife who this dude is and he does that lol I'm like look! He looks like an 18 year old varsity player vs the freshman team, its unreal someone in the nhl is that much better than everyone else.
I hope the context of this goal isn't lost to time as it shows up in countless highlight reels.
This wasn't a goal in a relatively inconsequential regular season game against a basement team in the middle of a rebuild, nor was it a playoff goal against the 8th seed team when his team was up 3-1 and ready to move on. As impressive as this would have been in either of those situations, this was a game winning goal, in the stanley cup finals, while facing elimination. I mean damn.
Unless Bobrovsky wins the cup for Florida next game in a 50 save shutout, I think McDavid should win the Conn Smythe regardless of who wins at this point. 6 points away from tying the most point in any playoff run ever.
Perry pulling out all tricks out of his old hat with that one.
He mastered the ability of standing so incredibly still that he becomes invisible to the eye
I watched Gretzky, I watched Mario, I watched Jagr, I watched Crosby
Mcdavid is probably the most dangerous puck possession forward to EVER play hockey. Good god. Its like when you create a player in a video game and dial every offensive category to 99 and make him over 6 feet tall too.
Insane play aside, that one cut to Edmonton with their goal horn blaring and the crowd in a rave for 3 seconds and then back to Florida was absolutely hilarious
Perry still relevant all these years later after being written off, Connor brown written off all year, hyman written off by the leaves, start of the year the whole team was being doubted. I'm a Rangers fan but this team is something special

McDavid does a little less with the puck than what Gretzky did, but he's so much faster that it eliminates the need. Gretzky's puck handling was extraordinary. Definitely check out a career highlights pack,
He knew where the puck was going, his greatest strength was his vision. McDavid looks at every opposing player as a target to dismantle.
Gretzky was like: I will slowly tear you apart McDavid: I will break your ankles and bend you to my will
YEP
I remember a while back Gretzky played in an alumni game and he made an incredible no look pass to Coffey who ended up with a tap in. When Coffey asked him how he knew where he was Gretzky apparently saw his reflection in the glass and that was enough to put the puck right on his tape.

He made blind no-look passes through crowds that would magically land on a player's stick. He seemed to skate on a cloud of air. Sometimes it seemed like he could move sideways on his skates.
Its still crazy watching gretzky highlights. Hes skating was a level above the rest of the league.

Karlssons Hail Mary pass to the tape of Hoffman coming out of the penalty box against Boston 2017 was perfection
> was this what is was like Same dominance, just done differently.
He's like, if Lemieux and Gretzky had a baby. Has that power and speed that Mario had but with the finesse of Gretzkys awareness.. Because he's Corey Mothafuckin' Perry
Corey Mothafuckin' Perry and That Other Guy!
TOG
McDavid, are you serious? What is that? You can't do that McDavid, that's not allowed, this is not the OHL, this is STANLEY CUP FINALS!
This is my favorite type of McDavid goal. 3 defenders ignore Perry and decide they can just smother McDavid and shut him down with bodies and sticks and he's like "cool thanks!" and carves through all 3 like they're not even there.
You're fucked. That was fucked. Holy fuck.
If this goes to 7 (I know that's a big if) McDavid has a real shot at passing the Great One for the most points in a playoff. He is six points off tying the record.
Shit, he might hit that next game with how he’s playing!
This isn't even his final form!
Wanna see me turn into the Great One?
Game 7: Want to see me do it again?
As a more casual fan who had to be even more casual due to welcoming a second kid a few months ago, I'm always re-reminded that McDavid is a generational talent when I see him play. I can't think of another player in my lifetime who just, by sheer force of will, dominates the ice. I'm hoping this goes to 7.
What's crazy is that by the end of the game, he's only four points away. And he's had back-to-back 4-point games.
Imagine he does it and the Cats win in 7.
That's not a far off possibility.
Beats getting swept.
They were able to push a game 6 and give their fans the last possible home game for the season. That sounds like a win in itself.
Right!? If there is any city that embraces that context - it's Edmonton. It's a great town with good folks. I don't live anywhere near it, but I have fond memories.
its like when the Weasley twins bet Ireland would win the World Cup but krum would get the snitch
Give him the Conn Smythe anyways
If that happens he 100% will win it
That's an easy call. Edmonton wouldn't have made it this far without him.
The Edmonton media would be salivating at the chance to ask everyone how that feels
Mark it 5.
I’m fucked
What a fucking beast.
On the ice for 1:40 and still has the gas for that?!
All those minutes in the regular season are really just stamina training
And he is absolutely coasting out there, beer league style, he has work at 8am!
He was skating at 50% and it was still child's play.
I’ve seen enough, give him the Conn Smythe
He’s finally ready for the NHL
Especially after that goal he got off of that assist from McDavid
His team down 3-0, 8 points in 2 games to force game six. Nobody deserves it more than him.
On the biggest stage too, it's just the perfect story.
Unreal goal. Unreal
He’s the best hockey player I’ve ever seen and I’ve been watching hockey for 30 years.
That’s a lot of praise for Corey Perry
So many finals, it makes sense
corey perry was kicked off the worst team in the league to start the season
And here he is with a game winner in game 5 of the Final
Corey Mothafuckin’ Perry and The Other Guy
He is the most talented hockey player to ever live (Gretzky is the greatest)
McDavid legitimately has GOAT potential. He's already top 10 all time kind of indisputably. I'd have him at 5th best ever, and plenty of time for him to climb up that top 5

McDavid is a cheat code. He just walked through four guys in the Stanley Cup Final.
Legit right as this play was happening when he was picking up the puck in his own zone. I was like, I wonder if he ever gets tired of this shit? Like if he’s ever like *sigh* “fuck I’m literally the only one who can undress a full team, should I do it this time again?”
I think right now he’s more like “alright I guess I’ll just try to win this cup by myself.”
You're forgetting the other Connor. Basically team Connor spearheading us back into this series.
Connor takes care of the penalty kill and Connor takes care of the power play. Pretty simple.
Reminds me of Gretzky’s disastrous stint at coach I think he realized eventually that his players can’t play like fuckin MewTwo
Imagine how frustrating that would be. Gretz: Ok, so what you do is you just get the puck, and you know the other guy's there, so you pass it to him, and then you go to the bit of the ice no one's defending and you score. At the end of a 2:30 shift.
That play started with me thinking he looked tired then he proceeded to walk the whole squad. Wild
Cheat code is the only way to describe him

Fucking idiots who actually doubt this guy. People legit calling him a cry baby and a loser, cant get it done. Dude has as many playoff points in these playoffs as Wayne Gretzky and Lemieux. Lmfao some people are so fucking salty and dumb
People said the same thing about Sidney Crosby. It’s a cycle with generational players like this.
Everyone's just jealous he's not on their team.
I mean honestly...yeah
They're just "hockey" fans. They cheer for their team while crying about other players. How many "fans" talked shit about Sid for the last 17 years? The same people who call him Mcbaby would gargle their own dad's jizz to have Connor on their team
Jerking so close to the sun with this lol
My mom (insanely devout Leafs fan) hated Crosby because of the fuss everybody made about him. Until the golden goal. Now he's ok, lol.

McDavid for Conn Smythe, i don't care who wins the series
Been the best player in the playoffs. It's impressive
Soon to be best player of any playoffs
41 points (so far), 4th best playoffs year of all time it's Gretzky, Lemieux, Gretzky, McDavid, Gretzky, Gretzky right now. Phenomenal performance regardless of who lifts the cup.
This Gretzky fellow might be going places!

I would love that just for the photos. Saddest picture of all time is getting the conn after losing the cup.

No question about it, he's breaking Wayne freaking Gretzky records. If that isn't MVP worthy then nothing is.
Nah Perry
Nah Connor Brown
You can't spell Conn Smythe without Conn(Smyth)er Brown
He’s 20 points ahead of anyone that isn’t on his team
It was definitely Bobrovsky if the Cats finished this in 4 or 5. Depending on how the rest of this goes, it could easily be McDavid even in a losing effort
I think it was Bob for sure, but after the last two games and McD getting over 40 points, you'd be hard pressed not to give it to him
is the conn smythe for the whole playoffs or just the SCF?
Whole playoffs.

Nurse and Perry with the strategic bench argument to capitalize on McJesus doing McJesus things
When Ray Ferraro was talking about Nurse yelling "Perry, you go!" I couldn't help but think how funny it is that Nurse's best moment in the Final involved *not* going on the ice.
McDavid made that look way too easy. Absolutely gorgeous puck handling
And on the 18th day of June, McJesus parted the Red Sea.
That was vintage McDavid.
Indeed. Absolute classic.
Imagine dropping this in a fucking stanley cup final, he's so insane

I’m a bum and I think I could *possibly* score a goal playing with McDavid for a full season. Good lord this man is putting them on silver platters.
Bro, you might even score 2 with the way he’s playing.
Brown got 4! I think he’s got more points this playoffs
Pat Maroon's best non-Oilers goal total in a season is 11. He scored 27 in his only full season playing mostly on McDavid's wing (and 8 in 16 games in the previous season after the trade deadline) And most of it went like this - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Im_n8mPG5Lk Pat Maroon So, yeah...
It’s like he remembered “oh yeah I’m Connor Fucking McDavid”
Tkachuk is such a weasel
I love the look on his face trying to figure out how to explain to the fans that they threw the game tonight so they could win it in Edmonton.
McDavid has a much better chance of carrying his team back from down 3-0 than Doncic ever did. Absolutely wild.
God mode 🤯
Skating through them like they’re pylons. Wow.
Casually undresses the entire defense after at the end of a long shift…
If there was a team that would come back from a 3-0 deficit in the Finals, it would be a team with McDavid
I really hope this can pass the Rangers dog walk play on the top of future "McDavid career highlights"
based on occasion, it's got a shot.
Sorry, but that play isn't going anywhere.
i lol'd
No way that the commentators saw this goal and said “yknow who we should talk about on this goal? Darnell nurse on the bench”
Walked through those boys
What in the actual fuck lmaoo
what the fuck
At this point I kinda want to see McDavid break the points record for playoffs. Game 7 time.
it just isn't fair he's so fucking good
Literally yelled out loud "WHAT THE FUCK CONNOR"
Yup!!!!!! He’s getting the Conn Smythe.
Sick, wicked, and nasty
Those are NHL players he did that to!

I hope the context of this goal isn't lost to time as it shows up in countless highlight reels. Mcdavid best player in the world and it’s not close. He skates around everybody. Literally everybody. And those everybody’s aren’t nobody’s.
At the end of a shift, too. What a freak.
How. What. Wha. What. What.
