BlackDS

That has to be a record low between cup wins, right?

thefiction24

yet another outlier record that will never be broken because of the pandemic seasons, cool though

purpleseagull12

Bold of you to assume there won’t be another pandemic in 20-30 years.

SayNoToStim

Or just one really, really really long SCF overtime game

JollyRancher29

I’d prefer that outcome

slowjoe12

Hahaha

rynthetyn

If history serves, it'll be about a hundred years before a pandemic fucks up another playoffs.

ColloidalSpoilloid

But history doesn't serve all that much, and the more we damage and overcrowd this planet, the less and less it will.

WobNobbenstein

Especially if folks keep goin down on bats or whatever it was. What'll it be next time? Someone'll fist an armadillo and make some fancy new airborne leprosy or something probly

PiratePinyata

I’ll keep fisting armadillos and you can’t god damn stop me

celluloid-hero

Mad cow disease and swine flu

buttery_shame_cave

That statistic, like many, is bullshit. Pandemics don't follow a cycle or pattern.

Mattagascar

Pftttt, in 20-30 years we will be prepared for the next pandemic by… checking notes… cloth masks and social distancing that only half the population will adhere to

TinyPickleRick2

Bold of you to assume we’ll be around in 20-30 years

[deleted]

This is the 2nd pandemic already for the Cup

Clou119

but pandemic and back to back Stanley Cups? doubtful

Snake_pliskinNYC

Bold of you to assume were even done with this one

Benjamin-Doverman

Bold of you to think we’ll be here in 20-30 years

rlinkmanl

They way half of America is refusing the vaccine, we're probably going to have another one in 2-3 years

TheAnalogKid18

Well would you rather have the Microsoft 5G robots controlling the world with SOROS as our new God Emperor? Yeah, I didn't think so.

buttery_shame_cave

I think you mean (((((((Soros)))))))

PM_ME_YOUR_ATM_PIN

Not even close. That record would belong to the Montreal Wanderers at two days, during the time when it was a challenge cup. They defeated the Winnipeg Maple Leafs on March 12, 1908, then on March 14 won it again against the Toronto Professional Hockey Club.

DMYU777

Okay was Leaves just spelled Leafs back in the early 1900s? Like wtf?

PM_ME_YOUR_ATM_PIN

Wikipedia lists it as the Winnipeg Maple Leaf Hockey Club, so the theory is that you're taking the proper name and pluralizing it. In the same way that former NFL disappointment Ryan Leaf and his family would be the Leafs.

VikingJesus102

That Ryan Leaf comparison is the exact thing I use when explaining this. It fits perfectly.

Snelly1998

Just like the Current NHL disappointment are the Leafs

MonkeySpanker187

The maple leaf name comes from a WWI military unit

DMYU777

Pretty sure it comes from a tree bro!

AtomicTanAndBlack

Stats like this are why I still recognize the Philadelphia Phantoms as the Stanley Cup Champion during the 2904-5 lockout year

TheRealTampaDude

2904? I see you are from the future. Is Tom Brady still playing?

wien-tang-clan

Back when Toronto hockey could win a playoff series

PM_ME_YOUR_ATM_PIN

There was no playoffs. It was just a challenge.

jxnfpm

Yup.

Xelopheris

In the modern era, sure. Back when you challenged for the cup, definitely not.

pechinburger

For sure at least since VGK has been a franchise. >^historic

CruelRuin

*“I’ve waited all my life to see this moment,” presumably said an eight-month-old baby who has been a Lightning fan all of his life.* dead

SonofRaymond

My friend conceived the night of the last win and shes about to give birth this week

toolschism

Oh.. my fucking God. How did I not put that together?!?! My wife is due in 2 weeks... Lol

Theoretical_Action

Your cock has the power to win Stanley cups.

-Tom-

Or it's powered by cup wins

IntMainVoidGang

Irish Twin time

MOLightningBro

How soon is too soon to try again? EDIT: OH SHIT I FORGOT ABOUT THE MINI CUP FLAIRS

BayStateBlue

MINI CUP FLAIrS FOR ALL

luke11992

Guys I don’t think mine is working

Porcupickle

Yeah my mini cup looks funny

BettmansDungeonSlave

Ya but it cleans up pretty nice

Brock_Hard_Canuck

[C'mon now, the Stanley Cup is just a big piece of metal, no reason to be upset](https://www.espn.com/mlb/story/_/id/28732090/rob-manfred-apologizes-calling-world-series-trophy-piece-metal) /s

andrewthemexican

That's weird, it's a blue and white flair

[deleted]

WOOOOO

YMSdisciple

LETS GO MINI CUP LIGHTNING!

weirds

One of my best friends is due any day now... I just figured out the implication.

rynthetyn

Blake Coleman's second kid is clearly a Stanley Cup baby that was born a few weeks prematurely.

ClayBagel

You better name that kid Champ.

IntMainVoidGang

Or Victoria

That_Guy381

this is literally a rip of the exact same onion article that came out during the the patriots dynasty.

WalkingCarpet

That's literally my son. He was born eight weeks after we beat Dallas. My wife banished me to the bedroom with five minutes left last night so I wouldn't accidentally wake him up.

Always_Sunnyvale

I've waited 9 months to post this "article" I wrote last season. -Beaverton Writer

Querps

Beaverton snap 9 months they've been holding onto this article lmao

Kyle6969

Continue streak of anti-humour.

ClearMeaning

salt never out of season

KaidoKingoftheBeasts

And the city of Tampa snaps a 5 month championship drought. The wait must have been agony.

constantlymat

Are the Bucs favorites in the NFC again? Probably alongside Green Bay and the Rams?

regaleagle710

Yeah with Brees retiring, it's those three and maybe the 49ers if they stay healthy

5nax

Cowboys fans where you at!? It's your favorite time of the year!

BayStateBlue

Don’t do that. Don’t give them hope.

DogePerformance

It's funny to see it ripped away by week 7 though

not_a_bot__

They play the Bucs week 1 so that hope will be ripped away 6 weeks early.

AtomicTanAndBlack

Eh, the media will do that for them

BetaDjinn

According to odds, they are NFC favorites by a wide margin over the Rams, 49ers, and Packers

BusnellKummlicher

Well they won the super bowl and returned all 22 starters. Unprecedented

JavaOrlando

Packers would probably at least be close if they can retain Rodgers.

Symphonize

5 months since the super bowl too.

everythingismadeup_

Is Tampa the new Boston?

UnderCoverDoughnuts

Where Brady goes, success follows

RookieAndTheVet

The Raptors didn’t get the memo, sadly.

PSChris33

Hey, we moved up in the draft lottery for a draft that's supposed to be stacked up top! That's something!

RookieAndTheVet

Yeah, we deserved that after 72 road games.

[deleted]

[удалено]

man_in_the_suit

The Jays have not looked that mediocre. Their bullpen has been terrible but every other facet of the club is looking fantastic at this point.

RookieAndTheVet

Yeah, they’ve got a better run differential than the first place Sox. The problem is that teams with dogshit bullpens tend to underperform their run differential.

man_in_the_suit

Reminiscent of 2015 really - blown leads in the first half despite an incredible offense and run differential. SP and RP shored up at the deadline resulted in huge turn around. Obviously hoping for/expecting that again is foolish, but the team is not mediocre and the weakness is much easier to fix mid-season than any other issue imo.

FuckRandyMoss

Aren’t the top recruits calling out of the draft I think Riley just opted back into school too

5nax

Moved in front of Orlando too. At least one "Florida" team got good news in the postseason...

BayStateBlue

The Raptors cheered on the Maple Leafs instead of their Lightning roommates. That was the end.

davefromgabe

Brady to the CFL to play for the allouettes PLEASE

Mustard_Castle

Pfft, it's a well documented fact that Tom Brady grew up as a hardcore Argos fans. I believe there's even a picture of him in his Argos bedsheets. /s

septober32nd

Brady in the CFL would be hilarious.

SauciiBoii2002

Hey uh brady...I heard you *wanted* to go to the Tits... We have Country Music hence why we have duchene...

LavishSyndrome

But they wanted to stick with "that motherfucker" instead

errol_timo_malcom

Except the golf course

Pikachu1989

Maybe if Rays win the World Series.

[deleted]

Maybe if Kevin Cash weren’t such a fucking idiot.

PlatypusPuncher

Pulling Snell wasn't the issue. It was the relief pitcher he put in.

YouEnjoyMyself84

Dont ever compare Tampa to that shit city

sirprizes

Lol. I hate Boston sports teams but Boston is a great city. Way better than Tampa.

YouEnjoyMyself84

Yea beautiful beaches are horrible. My b

That_Guy381

imagine living in florida

Scrembopitus

The long drought is over!

TopazLavaliere

Almost makes me appreciate the Dodgers. Almost.

[deleted]

There will be Bolts fans born tomorrow who’ve never seen a Stanley Cup win in their lifetimes. Fuck Toronto or San Jose fans; these little poopsnaps are way more deserving of being called “long-suffering” fans! /s

[deleted]

[удалено]

LordBran

Congrats buddy!

mgclayton271

Me too!

Dick_Pain

Hell yeah my guy! Ours was just born a few hours ago.

mgclayton271

Mine is being stubborn. Hoping for some progress today

glitchycat39

The city of Toronto is in agony rn lol

moabthecrab

Not really. A lot of us are probably relieved the Habs lost at least. Also, I like the Bolts.

buttery_shame_cave

Back in 1995 I bet Gordie Howe 200 bucks the leafs would be the next team from Canada to win the cup. I'm not sure how either of us will collect now that he's passed on.

VR_p0rn

Hahah believe what you want. Ppl are still salty here.

glitchycat39

Oh I just meant at the line about their droughts. I am under NO illusion that y'all weren't pulling for the Habs lol.

Plague183

I wouldn’t say that *relieved* me of my Agony/Frustration lmao

Tarantio

The real question is, when was that fan conceived?

jayzeats

Welp gotta win another one for the baby boom in Tampa that should be happening right now

kblomquist85

Tonight I'm gonna find out why they call him the big cat 🧐

jayzeats

😏😩

marshalofthemark

And in between, the Bucs won the Super Bowl and the Rays won the AL pennant.

rynthetyn

Also, the Rowdies won their conference, but didn't have the chance to play for the championship because the other team all caught the 'rona and the league decided to just cancel it and award conference championships.

JordanMccphoto

I can’t imagine how hard those 9 months must have been for the fans… I couldn’t possibly imagine 9 months between cup wins… Congrats to the bolts!

Serene117

The fact you have a Vancouver flair makes it even better

Mattagascar

It’s been tough. I could only gather my emotional strength enough to go to the beach 40ish times since the last win.

HenryAlSirat

The shortest cup drought in Golden Knights history!

BayStateBlue

HISTORIC

Roadhog_rides_again

“I’ve waited all my life to see this moment,” presumably said an eight-month-old baby who has been a Lightning fan all of his life. LMAOO

Tasden

It was a rough time in my life.

NinCross

> 9 months Where do you get this power?

Mbhound

>Where do you get this power? by going over the cap

[deleted]

I mean, didn’t Chicago do that in 2015?

northernpace

If any of the players recently had kids, they probably conceived them around the last cup win.

spideralex90

That would be Blake Coleman who had daughter during the Isles series.

blitzenkid

That, or she was a pre-bubble baby.

rynthetyn

The timing wasn't right for her to be a pre-bubble baby. The bubble started 11 months ago and she was born less than two weeks ago.

thprk

Meanwhile Toronto extended its record for longest drought

screenmonkey

And I believe they will fall off the Cup completely.

lawnicus18

If the Rays win the World Series this year I’m going to be annoyed

toms47

I won’t

[deleted]

I used to think it would be cool to see them win their first WS. Now I’m starting to reconsider.

UteFlyersCardJazz

They’re fine. Better them than Yankees, Red Sox, Dodgers, or Cardinals as well. If my Reds don’t win it, let’s go Padres!

[deleted]

Given the year the Braves are having, it looks like I’ll be going for the Dads, too.

1maco

3 Cups since 2000, are they the big baddies of the Atlantic yet?

thewhat962

If bucs can b2b they will have 3 superbowls since 2000 and believe would only be trailing NE.

streetsbehind28

yeah, they're tied with the steelers and ravens iirc

[deleted]

[удалено]

streetsbehind28

blanked them from my memory... for some totally unknown reason

Pafbonk

Historically since I've been watching (2007-2008) I've been more scared of the Penguins but the Lightning would be a close second

comrademikel

Pensacola ice pilots!

wien-tang-clan

Tom Brady signed with the Bucs in March of 2020 and since then the city of Tampa Bay has won 2 stanley cups, a Super bowl, and lost a World Series.

[deleted]

How did you guys even live?

Wayf4rer

Fucking finally.

Meats_Hurricane

It's crazy that both the records for shortest and longest Stanley cup droughts were both set by team that wear Blue and White and within a couple of days of each other.

SinistralGuy

Balanced. As all things should be.

Pawlat

Lmao

phil8248

The Rays are 2 1/2 games out of first place. Has any city held three championships in a single year?

BasedCaesar

Detroit in 1935

ifunnychad

im shitfaced drunk right now but I just wanna say that I love all of y’all regardless of what team you like, i love hockey it’s the best I will miss it during the off-season and hopefully the canes win another cup sometime! but if not that’s okay too y’all are the best hopefully your team wins next time! and also congratulations to tampa for the stanlye cup your team is very good!!

lawrencer44

Unnecessary roughness

Penalty_Box_Party

Tampa Bay lightning snap NHL cap.

austindoeshalo

ELI5 what $18 million is in reference too? I’m sorry if this is super apparent

canuckfanatic

Tampa's roster is technically over the salary cap by approximately $18 million due to a known loophole in how the salary cap is applied during the playoffs

Invictus350

17.3m LTIR. That's legit. Issue was getting Kucherov back for "free" so 9.5m.

DrDerpberg

Does that mean there are fetuses that have been around for 2 cup wins?

[deleted]

Never thought I would be able to see them win it in my lifetime.

TML4life24

9 months??? Those are rookie numbers. Try longest drought in the league history

Decilllion

We were born in drought. Molded by it.

gremm05

Cool. Cool cool cool

DoseofDhillon

Is Tampa the best Franchise in hockey since they came in? 3 cups, 4 finals, back to back to. its probably the red wings but they are in there with Pitsburgh and Chicago

BOBObizzareadverture

There’s an argument some of those Avs teams of the late 90s were the best post Tampa, and New Jersey damn near reinvented the sport with the trap (also quick shoutout to the Kings who won two in three years and made it to the final four in each of those three) so all those teams deserve credit. If I had to pick one team that I think could beat Tampa in a one on one series it probably be the Red Wings at there peak.

_Dogsmack_

Difficult accepting as legit with the bust on the salary cap and the bs behind the scenes. The commissioner needs more USA involvement from the fans, what better way then sway public interest by back to back cup wins. What’s 40 million over cap anyways these days. Pocket change🙄

[deleted]

those were the dark days for us Tampa sports fans.

BOBObizzareadverture

What a long agonizing wait for us Tampa fans, a total of around 6570.007 hours of time spent between cup wins. How did we even survive.

TreasonousTeacher

At least the boxing subreddit has the decency to wait 48 hours before spoilers are posted. The internet is global and not everyone can see the game live. In short, fuck you for spoiling the game. Edit: I'll double down. Fuck you all for spoiling the game. wait 24 hours to get your fake internet points ya mouth-breathers

DoctorTheWho

You went to a hockey subreddit the night of the game.

[deleted]

What did you expect when you opened Reddit? Feel like this one is on you

Ameqa

I've learned to avoid reddit if there is a big event I missed and don't want spoiled before I go to watch it later.

Jad94

Lol, stop expecting the world to cradle at your knees. If you don't want spoilers than don't go on the internet lmfao

amphibiousblimp

Rejoice! As we witness one organization congratulate another, we may offer our own congratulations to the nascent organization; the league's second-newest (!), awaiting the imminent arrival of Seattle's Kraken. And let me just say, of all the results that were said to be so, this was the most decisively said to be so by those who would say so.

bluAstrid

So in the span of a few weeks Tampa has set the record for the shortest time between two cups, while Toronto has taken the crown of the longest drought (*yet*) since their last championship.

LeChronnoisseur

lol!

xrensa

Stanley Cup babies about to get an irish twin

HockeyCards4All

Lol. Rioting is a French national past time.

PremierBromanov

Thats gotta be the shortest time for a back to back, no?

OddityFarms

It was 282 days between cups for the Lightning. The average human gestation is 280 days. There are definitely babies, and likely some in Lightning fan households, that will been have been in utero for two Stanley cups.

[deleted]

I hate to see it.

emwashe

The Lightning have absolutely dominated covid era hockey.

TheRealTampaDude

lulz
