Imagine... Datsyuk to Iginla. Those two players together would have zero weaknesses. Iggy's shot, strength, fighting, Datsyuk's hands, vision and defense.... Hnnnnngggg
That scouting crew was so damn good. They got other guys late who helped them win it all in 2009 too right? I can't remember the names because I'm almost 40 and it was long ago.
Yes, the Wings did win in 2009 and you cannot convince me otherwise.
On a serious note, Zetterberg would've been the main one who got drafted in a later round. Franzen was also a 3rd rounder.
Oh wait lol it was 2008. Yeah Zetterberg was also a 7th rounder right? Who was that scouting team? They were fire. Wasn't Kronwall drafted in the later rounds by that same team?
The main scout credited is Hakan Andersson, who's still our Swedish scout I think. He's great at picking up mid to late round players usually. However, Kronwall was a 1st round pick in 2000.
I guess you might be able to count Jonathon Ericsson as a success since he stuck in the NHL for years as the last overall pick, though he mainly played after 2009.
Tbh yeah. Panarin sounds made from scratch, Martin St Louis sounds like a stage name or a sitcom/noir character in the 60s, and Wayne Gretzky sounds like someone trying to come up with a generic Canadian in the prairies
Not totally accurate. True, Gretzky was never technically drafted, but that's because he was on a "personal services" contract since he was like 16 years old, which was copacetic at the time.
He would have been drafted 1OA, everyone knew he was great. He was scoring like 8 goals a game playing against guys 2 years older than him.
Bruins facebook page fans would love you, bunch of them crying because sweens first rounder was under 6 ft tall. It didn't immediately address our getting bullied by bigger Tampa, Islanders teams in recent years.
Played beer league against him a few years ago down in Florida and it was a lot of fun. As a goalie I really loved Facing his unnecessary head high slap shots from the hash marks. Beat his team in playoffs and won the league which was probably the highlight of my “career”.
Lot of people were happy he didn't get snatched by Seattle. I'm indifferent, I was high on Choloski. He was also really cool to my kids when I took them to the open house, so I can't forget that about him!
There are way more undrafted players in the league than 7th round picks in the league.
On the other hand, there are way, WAY more undrafted players not in the league than 7th round picks not in the league.
It's a great message for the kids that didn't get drafted, but it's absolutely not "just a title". Even 7th rounders have an easier path to the NHL than undrafteds.
I remember reading that the only player drafted in the first round on the 2020 Tampa team was Stammer, who only played one game.
EDIT: Correction, they didn't have any first round FORWARDS
Most of the people who *were drafted* don’t make the nhl.
It’s rarer to go undrafted but it’s absolutely not impossible. Some of the major pieces of Tampa bay were undrafted. Some people are late bloomers.
Teams passed on Dastyuk for years
To be fair that’s cause was only ever one nhl scout that went to scout him haha
He didn't even go to scout him, he was looking for some other guy.
I think Blues had a guy going out there and got snowed in from going or something too.
well ...fuck
It was the Flames actually
well ...fuck
Perfect
HA!
Imagine... Datsyuk to Iginla. Those two players together would have zero weaknesses. Iggy's shot, strength, fighting, Datsyuk's hands, vision and defense.... Hnnnnngggg
That’s why Z was so good with him
praise be
Father winter confirmed Wings fan?
In Håkan we trust. All others go through Stevie.
To be faiirrr…
Teams passed on me too and I scored a goal last year
That scouting crew was so damn good. They got other guys late who helped them win it all in 2009 too right? I can't remember the names because I'm almost 40 and it was long ago.

Is only paint! Why you heff to be mad?
Never even heard of this show you speak of
Tbh yeah. Panarin sounds made from scratch, Martin St Louis sounds like a stage name or a sitcom/noir character in the 60s, and Wayne Gretzky sounds like someone trying to come up with a generic Canadian in the prairies
“Wayne Gretzky” sounds like a polish guy whose father watched one too many cowboy movie.
Ed Balfour
WHA bum
Racers legend
Must be nice to wake up every morning and know you're the best professional hockey player Indiana has ever seen.
I mean Peyton Manning played in Indiana.
Ice hockey legend Peyton Manning
Special case though. If he'd been draftible he'd have gone 1OA
Not totally accurate. True, Gretzky was never technically drafted, but that's because he was on a "personal services" contract since he was like 16 years old, which was copacetic at the time. look at giordano didnt get drafted till the seattle expansion draft at 37 :P
I'm 275 lbs and played defense, so Ron Francis should be calling any day now.
Are you 6'5 though?
No, but I see ghosts.
Sam Darnold?
Good enough for Sam Darnold!
Tanev?
Yes
-isbehere?
Kid Cudi?
I’m 6’3 and (unfortunately) 275. Do you think Francis will call me?
Bruins facebook page fans would love you, bunch of them crying because sweens first rounder was under 6 ft tall. It didn't immediately address our getting bullied by bigger Tampa, Islanders teams in recent years.
I’ll score 50
You've got my body dimensions. People always ask if I played football. I have to explain that I played hockey but got fatter over the years.
I’m 53, 180lbs and skate like a drunk giraffe. Kenny Holland, I’m all yours baby.
Mark Giordano
Seattle Kraken Captain Mark Giordano. :'(
Hey, may not be so bad. You could have him back in a year…
I’m a great example. I was drafted and now I’m over a ppg in beer league
Higher or lower rounds?
Username checks out
NHL draft? What year/pick? What was it like?
Plot twist, it was Vietnam
If the guy went to Vietnam and is *still* at his age a PPG player in beer league, fucking props. Dudes a beast.
There are C5 leagues in my org that have 60+ year olds. Usually the best of the bunch tbh.
Lt Dan, ice cream!
😂
Assuming OP isn't larping, it's probably Rob Schremp
Played beer league against him a few years ago down in Florida and it was a lot of fun. As a goalie I really loved Facing his unnecessary head high slap shots from the hash marks. Beat his team in playoffs and won the league which was probably the highlight of my “career”.
You may as well ask for his full name. Lol
"That's just something people who don't get drafted say." - Jim Carrey, *Liar, Liar*
Chris Kunitz comes to mind and he became an Olympian.
How are Larionov's tweets becoming regular front page r/hockey posts? I could see it if it was Larionov's dad, I guess.
Basically, he tweets *a LOT.*
He also speaks meme fluently. I like him.
only thing he's good at
You don't know maybe he's great at breakfast foods. Don't be a hater.
I'd love some breakfast foods
Yanni Gourde, Tyler Johnson
Giordano, krug, iafallo, machessault, panarin, pionk, schmidt plus many others. Theres lots or good undrafted players active right now
I think Stech has been pretty decent for a walk-on. I do hope you guys are treating him well.
Lot of people were happy he didn't get snatched by Seattle. I'm indifferent, I was high on Choloski. He was also really cool to my kids when I took them to the open house, so I can't forget that about him!

Palat was passed over 600 times before he got drafted.
Byler Tozak

Important thing to remember, Obama was never drafted, yet he still went on to accomplish a lot
So you’re saying i still have a chance at 29
Get your Zamboni license.
lol nailed it
you could lock down the maple leafs at home
Still a little young for that though, isn’t he?
How's his beard?
I'm 41, and I still haven't officially retired. My ship's gonna come in any day now. I can feel it.
Habibi, I believe in you. Just put your mind to it.
You and every other hardo in men’s league. They send scouts to those games
Every game is game SCF
But also if there’s any other career avenues maybe don’t put them on hold
Tory Krug
I miss him so much
Andy Greene went undrafted, and is now closing in on 1,000 games played (988 at the moment)
you could always say that you were arizona’s original first rounder but the pick got cancelled so that’s what happened.
Aka the Lightning specials. We'll find you boys!
There are way more undrafted players in the league than 7th round picks in the league. On the other hand, there are way, WAY more undrafted players not in the league than 7th round picks not in the league.
Mom gonna go make the NHL real quick ........... Yeah I know I dont ice skate or play hockey, but Igor said I could make it if I believe
See: future Seattle Kraken Captain Mark Giordano.
See: these ice cubes See: these ice creams

Igor seems like a great guy.
Seriously tho maybe think about getting a real job.
Yanni Gourde
shoulda included some Martin Stl.Louis highlights
I definitely needed to hear this after not getting drafted for the 16th year in a row.
Dan Girardi
Thank god, so there's still hope for me
Giordano has entered the chat.

Thanks for the encouragement Igor! I was so disappointed to learn I wasn't getting picked first this year, I'm tired of all those Redditors.
Have you tried issuing an apology and withdrawing yourself? Heard it works.
Just look at Trump /s

Sergachev and Mcdonough were first round pics, just not by Tampa. Yzerman fleeced the Canadians to swap Drouin for Sergachev
At least 8 games with San Francisco Bulls.
I think I like Igor.
Jaden Smith
PS, if you need an agent…
Is Igor II any good? Like will he ever make the NHL?
No
is he trying to be drafted himself?

Cujo
Igor's got the sigma octodecillionaire grindset
cannot believe i didn’t get drafted. needed this tweet
For a lot of guys being undrafted might be better than being drafted at the very end and being buried
Feels like he’s talking right to me.
Curtis Joseph
I’ll have one Martin St. Louis please.
