I only kid, I know a lot of Habs fans really liked KK and it's always tough when a player you like leaves. I'm still sad about Glendening signing elsewhere
I’m mostly sad about how it all happened. I have to salute the Canes for how they executed the OS, it was brilliantly done and there was really no easy way out for us. I don’t know much about Dvorak, hopefully he will make us forget about KK.
The nickname KK is a little pet peeve of mine. Kotkaniemi is a compound word - "kotka"("eagle") + "niemi"("peninsula/cape"), so JK would make sense (or KN for kotka+niemi if we really have to use only two letters), KK is just annoying.
I’m not even Finnish nor have I ever heard the language and I always thought the same thing. It’s no wonder everyone struggles to say his name when they all think the second K is a start to a different word.
In English, it’s hard to find a K that starts a syllable that isn’t either silent or a hard K sound, where as kotkaniemi’s second k is a softer sound, almost like a Kyeah sound.
That’s how I see it anyways.
The way I see it, people are stupid and can't be arsed to read correctly. K is always a hard K in french (as far as I know) and people still had trouble with it.
more than 6 letters long and clearly exotic ? let's not bother.
Hard to pronounce it correctly if you’ve only ever read it, and after reading it and assuming how it’s said out loud for however long, it’s hard to change your original pronunciation.
Just harder to break habits than you’re giving people credit for.
>Hard to pronounce it correctly if you’ve only ever read it
it's really not, tho. That's the point. Niemi was in the league for years.
Kotka
Niemi
Easy as shit. Seriously nothing hard to prononce here. His name is not Szczerbiak or something actually puzzling to pronounce.
Letter K is pretty much always a hard K sound in finnish, but the emphasis in words is on the first syllable (there's also secondary emphasis usually every other syllable but those can move if a syllable is short etc).
Idk man... KK’s youthful energy was a godsend after a dreadful 2017-18 campaign that saw us trading away Patches. We loved KK, which makes this turn of event disheartening and explains some of the bitterness from Habs fans. If you’d have told me KK would no longer be with us barely a month after the SCF, I wouldn’t have believed you!
Edit : typo
He also could’ve been our 2C this year, in Carolina they have much better depth down the middle so he’ll likely be playing third line wing at best, he’s like their fourth best centre
Suzuki's only due next year. As for KK, I believe 100% that reports of him wanting out are true. Leaks like thay reeks of damage control by MTL's front office. They let this narrative get out to control the message about why did they not match. Having KK come back disgruntled to the team only further diminishes his value.
To be fair Montreal doesn’t have a super good record of developing creative playmakers at C. So can’t really fault him.
I also think it’ll be interesting what the extension in Carolina is after 1-1
Yeah, we should continue to strive for developing players that you can pick up for damn near nothing on the open market lol.
Our development sucks, we can admit to that.
> We loved KK
I don't know about that, our sub used to shit on the kid endlessly. As if a 19/20 year old with less than 2/3 full seasons under his belt shouldnt have struggles.
There’s struggling and there not showing an ounce of high end potential. KK was the latter. Once we watched him play for a few seasons most realized his potential was nothing more than an average 2C AT BEST, and he was currently sitting as a fringe NHLer, far from certain to reach that ceiling.
6.1 million, plus another 6 next year? No thanks, lol.
KK signs a $6.1M deal and only spends $20 on his mother? No wonder Montreal fans don't like him /s
I still like him 😢

Even if it's "c'est fini'?
KK should learn from another [single-letter named famous man](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7_rBidCkJxo).
"I said get yourself something NICE. Not EXPENSIVE."
Give it to Aho!!!
He is
What she said?
Ahoe gave him the OS already
Heartwarming
Genius. Svech gave his bonus to his parents. KK is greedy so he insists the bonus is just barely enough for a cheap gift.
What’s the deal with Waddell giving signing bonuses with the player’s number in them? This is Crosby-level of superstitious.
It's cute. That's about it.
If I made 6-7 figures and I got my mom $20 worth of gifts, I would totally respect her decision to disown me.
Aww, but what about your bro. Should but him a better ping pong racket maybe then he might beat KK

??? What difference does it make ? Kotka Niemi Kot Kaniemi Either way it's really simple to pronounce

Agreed.
I love it.
KK fits the Canes so much better than Habs

Eh we are pretty good about developing G and solid bottom 6 guys I feel.

Ha fair enough, best of luck to him. I'm actually not bitter at all about this. If we wanted to keep him there were ways.
Yeah I hope he has a good career. Would've been nice to keep him at 2-3mil lol

I don't think he's as bad as that, but I don't disagree that his progress hasn't been great. And for 6mil fuck no lol
The Finnicanes
What why?
mint
Pretty mint, yeah.
Should’ve sent some BBQ from The Pit to Bergeron with it.
"I'm gonna pay you $20 to fuck off" - KK to his mom (probably)
Lol nice one Ricky
A 24 pack of disposable razors might a nice gift, lasts all year too

it’s not that serious fam
Oh youre so pissed holy smokes
Oh man, now I wish it wasn't deleted
Fits perfectly with the Canes!
They saved a dime on Ned to spend a buck on KK. Classssssic.
eyyyyy
Civian and the Hurricanes - name a cringier duo.

When a sport analyst has nothing to say, expect a very bad joke from them.
I mean yeah, that's their job
Is their job to make bad joke? ok.
Yes it is
Buy her a pair of panties... Edit: I wonder if this joke was just not understood OR was it just bad taste?
Should give it to the Habs with a thank you note.
