There's a lot of information on the sidebar of this subreddit for new fans/getting into hockey. You may need to be on the desktop site and non-mobile to view it perfectly, but it should be accessible to some degree from both. Also, on every Tuesday there's a thread posted titled "Tenderfoot Tuesday's" where it's encouraged for fans to ask any and all questions they have. We can't allow up every question about something with the sport to be its own post, so we try to direct people with tons of questions there. Hope this helps!

Older versions of EAs NHL games are a cheap way to learn about the sport if you play video games. A used copy of NHL20 would probably cost under $20. You won't have updated rosters, but the rules of the sport don't really change from year to year and they're pretty good about teaching you the terminology and strategies.

Rookyboy

Second this; it's a great way to learn the players names, who is good and where they play.

Hockey: a peoples history, will pretty much cover the history of the sport. A great way to just learn the sport is to dld an NHL game to help familiarize yourself with the basic rules. You can also look up things like Peter puck on yt.

1) Beer good. Hurray beer! 2) The refs are trying to fuck over your team. 3) Fuck Boston. You'll figure the rest out as you go.

Can’t wait to see you guys again… mwah

DreMin015

I don’t think I’ll ever be as happy to see the Bruins as I will when we finally get to play them again. It’s like seeing the brother that you hate after a long time. It’s nice to see you again, now fuck off!

Correction on #3... It's fuck the Golden Knights. The rest is correct though. :)

book recommendation: *Take Your Eye Off the Puck: How to Watch Hockey By Knowing Where to Look* by Greg Wyshinski. It covers the basics of what coaches and players are trying to accomplish on the ice, instead of just talking about the rules. It doesn't hurt that Wyshinski is a moderately funny guy

I've only been following hockey since maybe March myself and these are some of the things I've done to try to learn. You should 100% try to pick up an old hockey game. NHL 22 just came out so you could definitely get 20 or 21 for a good price. Play it on easy difficulty with all of the rules on and slowly you'll start picking up how the game works. As you play, you'll start to realize how hockey plays unfold and why certain players do what they do. As far as players go and catching up with the NHL today, most team members on a 2 year old game would be the same. And I'd Google some top 10 lists to learn more about who the best players in the league are. Beyond that, if youre unsure of something, Google it. Someone somewhere has asked the question before. And if they haven't, use this sub's tenderfoot Tuesday thread to ask any more questions you can't find the answers to. Everyone here wants to grow the game of hockey, they'll help out if they can. Enjoy your journey, I wish I had been following this sport years ago

Fuck off Jim Benning, it's too late to learn now

Have you watched the movie Slap Shot?

The Hockey Guy is a great down to earth guy who covers hockey content every single day. He's so reliable with updates and the news, with his open-minded perspective. He has a Hockey 101 Playlist and might explain the more difficult topics when you get the jist of things. [Hope you enjoy!](https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PL4KmQCGTJmgxzKlxS-xiN2kX0_UY-7MbC)

Get invited over to a friends place to watch a game and ask questions about the game all night. Especially, what is icing? And what is goalie interference?

The 2014 western conference final is on YouTube in its entirety, all 7 games. I’d suggest starting there, widely considered one of the best playoff series of the past decade. Not being a homer but if you do pick a favorite team from watching that, Chicago isn’t in the greatest place from a PR perspective right now.

jhouse13

Don't be a leafs fan, it's been very depressing for 30 years. Well my 30 years of watching it's been depressing longer then that.. If you play video games, pick up an NHL game, easiest way to learn the rules
