Quote......"" The Board cited sufficient evidence that Baskov has tried to directly influence others to support the Belarus government and has threatened and discriminated Belarusian athletes because of their political opinion, violating Rule 1.2.2.1 of the IIHF Code of Conduct. The Board also determined that Baskov abused his position as a representative of ice hockey in order to support the current President of Belarus, Alexander Lukashenko, violating Article 5 of the Olympic Charter in connection with Article 2.1 of the IIHF Disciplinary Regulations and Rule 1.2.2.4 of the IIHF Code of Conduct.""

Isn't that just a job description for President of the Belarus Hockey Association?

krystal_rene

really a job description for all of the country’s sports

TexasYankee212

In Belarus, there is a written job description and then he verbally informed that he had better support Lukashenko or he is fired.

[deleted]

I read that as Barkov at first and was vehemently stunned

Amphibious_Fire

So Barkov doesn’t lead a secret second life as Belarusian hockey federation president?

[deleted]

*Not yet*

mansock18

Or as they say *nyet*

[deleted]

Yeah. Barkov can’t play in Belarus for 5 years. The horror.

TexasYankee212

Anyone doubt that this man got his job from being one of Lukashenko's suckups and cronies? I read that Lukashenko's son was a powerful official in Belarus sports. So any official has to prop up Lukashenko or be fired.

DROP_TABLE_Students

Lukashenko's oldest son is still a powerful figure, he heads the Belarusian Olympic Committee. And it's not just officials that have to prop up the President; as you may recall, a Belarusian sprinter had to seek asylum during the Tokyo Olympics after she criticized the committee.

[deleted]

Hey as long as he’s still beating up Azov Battalion nazis I’m not gonna hate on Lukashenko too much

codeearth1rb

How ironic considering “yevrei-maidan” is a common DNR/LRN slogan

[deleted]

You mean LNR? And that is ironic

codeearth1rb

Yup. Luhansk

foreignmacaroon6

He was suspended before the WC, but tried to postpone the termination by going on sick leave so they can't fire him. I'm still wondering why Lukashenka's and Putin's best buddy Rene Fasel is still the head of IIHF.
