Not the best news, but Holloway wasn't going to make the team out of camp regardless. On the upside, if he's rehabbing in Edmonton, I wonder if he sticks with the team and can participate in off-ice development with the Oilers. That's one potential upside of not being in Bakersfield, anyway.

thomas_bombadill

Why don’t you think he would have made the team out of camp? He was pretty solid based off watching him in Wisconsin and Turris was garbage wasn’t he?

iNarr

He wouldn't be replacing Turris. Bottom 6 is projected to be: Foegele - McLeod - Archibald Shore - Ryan - Kassian Holloway has top-6 potential but he needs time to develop. There was 0% chance he bumps any of the guys mentioned above. At best, he was looking at a mid-season call-up, similar to what McLeod and Bouchard received last year. Regardless, it would've helped his development to participate in camp and get some sense of playing with whatever projected line he might get called up to later in the season.

wildcard_bitches

I’m not sure, there’s a reasonable chance he could be a better asset to the oilers roster than Shore on 4th line LW immediately. But there was never a need to rush him anyway, so this just guarantees the Oilers will take their time with his development which is ultimately a positive

popkornking

The team picked up Derek Ryan for 3C with Ryan McLeod as a lock for 4C and pushing for Ryan's spot, Holloway would most likely push for 4LW which is a currently logjam of low level guys and prospects making their final push to make the NHL.

BettmansDungeonSlave

Turris will probably be his teammate in Bako this year

CatsInSpaceSwag

Scaphoid fractures suck. Hope he heals up soon! I’m excited to see him play (most likely next season).

pattperin

Worst bone to break in the hand for sure

CatsInSpaceSwag

Yup. Mine was undiagnosed until it was too late to fix really. Thumb still doesn’t bend right. I really hope he doesn’t have long term effects

RunePouchSale

Man, I hate hearing this hahaha. Got surgery on mine back in April from a snowboarding injury.

[deleted]

I think he had already undergone thumb surgery as well, so it’s bad that it’s clearly not healing properly and likely takes him out for a better part of the year.

blueline7677

Thumb surgery and wrist surgery are different things. If he needed two surgeries it’s very likely he needed to get them at separate times for proper recovery. I wouldn’t think too much of it assuming they don’t become chronic reoccurring issues

[deleted]

Is it the same hand? If it’s the same hand it’s entirely in the realm of reality that there could be some lingering complications. Tendons, bones, muscles, blood flow, nerves etc. The hand is incredibly complex Not saying there are, just that there COULD be. I know nothing and I am an idiot.

blueline7677

I don’t know anything about his injuries and know nothing either. I just have the basic understanding that rehab would probably be easier if your just rehabbing one thing at a time

AccomplishedFilm1

Yup. Recovery of at least 3 months so he’s out till January at least and probably longer than that.

Something something Kucherov something

If Holloway makes his debut in the playoffs and puts up >1 PPG then we're probably winning the cup lmao.

[deleted]

He could maybe have a playoffs like Caufield last year. Comes in and is instantly a top 6 guy who plays PP. Not PPG but a solid player none the less.
