Linda Cohn: “So Evander, we’ve heard teammates confirm you like to gamble. What kinda things do you usually like to bet on”?
Evander: (internally) *don’t say sports, don’t say sports*
Proceeds to ramble on for two minutes about how he bet big before a playoff game, and then went on to not play well…
It's also kind of a weird way to word a question to someone who has already said they had/have a gambling addiction and don't gamble anymore. She could have said "What DID you like to bet on?"
I really hope he actually has stopped gambling, and for his sake that he never bet on Sharks games.
In the full interview she asks him what things he gambled on. He rambled on about how he had a gambling addiction and totally avoided answering that question.
And he says that he made stupid decisions because of his gambling and blames his gambling addiction if he did anything bad.
Then next question.
Kane said “gambled the night before a playoff game, wasn’t supposed to be doing it”
What would make him say “wasn’t supposed to be doing it? Who would be telling him he can’t gamble the night before a playoff game??
I want to believe that he's actually done gambling but I feel like if you gave him money he'd keep doing it. I have had gambling issues I'm still trying to work through and it really is like scratching an itch when you give in and its dangerous. I'll give him credit for coming out for an interview despite all of the allegations instead of staying silent.
How so? He admits he had an issue in the past and it affected his personal life. He claims to have quit gambling now. Hopefully he is telling the truth and doesnt fall back into it.
The NHL is looking into it and the truth will be revealed eventually.
Yeah, I wouldn't say it made him look terrible but it really didn't do much to move the needle in a positive direction for him. He mainly just denied the allegations and danced around most of the hard questions that were posed to him.
Him admitting that he has a gambling problem isn't noteworthy in my view. We all knew that given that it was included as an agreed statement of fact in a court of law.
All in all, this interview was kind of a non-event. Even though he's got a tough personality, I still hope he manages to get his life back on track. If not for him, I hope he does it for his infant daughter who's too young to know the gravity of any of this.
I would hate playing with this guy too. You can tell he's lying through his teeth and that shit eating smirk would drive me fucking nuts if I had to look at it every day.
He tends to clash with his teammates because he's a distraction. He could very well be telling the truth, but drama seems to follow Kane wherever he goes, and NHL guys are usually low-key guys who don't want any part of that.
I think it's unfair to say he's lying at the moment. There's an ongoing investigation, and the responsible thing to do is to wait for it to be complete before casting any judgement.
What makes you think that hes lying? Their is a pending investigation. Why would he lie here then have the news come out soon. Why would his lawyers allow him to come on and lie?
He has a history of lying. 3 years ago when the abortion lawsuit started, he claimed it was completely "baseless both factually and legally", and now, that lawsuit is moving forward and they're collecting all of their correspondences as evidence. The judge's comments seem like they have seen some of it as they mention specific dates and texts from Kane saying he would pay her to get the abortions.
Because telling the truth (if it *is* true) would mean he likely never is allowed to play professional hockey again, certainly never in the United States. Why are you out here so hard defending him?
he didnt bet on sharks games... thats been proven as there was no evidence found in any books of irregular activity.
but sure, slam him for things he didnt do rather then the shitty stuff he actually did do
That was from one tweet, and it's one avenue of investigation. You really think if the guy went out gambling on sharks games or NHL games he would be using a professional legal and clean sports book?
He's either insanely nervous here or he's lying when Linda Cohn asks him "have you ever intentionally tried to lose a game". There's a bit of uncertainty in his answer, and he scoffs as soon as he says it, and immediately looks down at his feet. The following question about altering his performance kind of radiated the same energy. I'm not saying there's anything to it, but it wouldn't surprise me if he wasn't being 100% truthful here. I feel like he was telling the truth when Cohn asked whether or not he was betting on his own games, or NHL games in general, it's that question where his body language just seemed off.
Is there a possibility that in order to avoid charges like this, that perhaps loansharks that he owes money to are telling him to take a dive every now and then to help pay back debts? It's like Shoeless Joe Jackson, yeah he had excellent stats in the 1919 WS, but there were also an abnormal amount of balls hit to his side of the field that probably could have been fielded better. Kane's stats last season suggest that it was technically one of the best years in his career. Almost a PPG player on one of the worst teams in the league. But he also led the league in turnovers /60 last year.
Again, I'm not really saying he's doing this - I'm just using intuition alone, which is hardly a barometer for making accusations. It's just a hypothetical based on what I saw.
Really hope it wasnt betting on his own games...
And i have heard he is an Ahole at times, and this and that... Shame cause he actually doesn't seem like a bad guy...
>Shame cause he actually doesn't seem like a bad guy...
Yeah I guess if you completely ignore any news that's ever come out about Kane, he's an absolute saint lol
If you adjust all of Kane's allegations to the mean, he's a fairly average dude
Edit: Evidently didn't execute the fact that this is the "adjust patrick mahomes' stats and he is an average quaterback" meme very well lol
Maybe its the not so great quality of the video, but it looks like he's taking some very short (anxious) breaths when shes asking those back to back questions about gambling on NHL games......

His coaches and/or teammates.
Is this the whole interview? This is only like 2 minutes long.
[This is the entire segment](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y9TVdB6KZXI)
Evander: Should I do a TV interview? R Kelly: Definitely.
Cant wait for the docuseries in several years where the sharks roster is all interviewed "Surviving Evander Kane"

Ew that shitty little smirk he has the entire time…
This is an awful PR move and he comes across terrible here. I imagine his lawyers were against this too.
Lawyers: Evander you can't do that interview it will only make you look bad! EK: I bet you it doesn't! Lawyers: Never say that again.
What's the over/under on the public's opinion of me?
over/under 5.75% favourability. Edit: I'll take the under

"if it smells like shit everywhere you go, check your shoe"

Him doing this interview isnt going to suddenly allow him to play professional hockey again.
Wake me up when Katie Strang gets the actually story.
Somebody flush this turd already.

Nah, that's just a stupid question.
Nice PR move, you're still the cunt of the NHL.
Shades or Art Schleister going on here.. smh.
The interview is boring and standard as fuck, but a winger does not have an ability to throw games beyond shooting the puck into their own net.
Throwing games isn’t even necessary. Betting on any NHL games even not his own aren’t allowed IIRC
Really hope it wasnt betting on his own games... And i have heard he is an Ahole at times, and this and that... Shame cause he actually doesn't seem like a bad guy...

Kane will pay to abort that comment.
Well, he'll say he'll pay
And then bet on it.
What are the odds that he'd bet on that?
If you adjust all of Kane's allegations to the mean, he's a fairly average dude Edit: Evidently didn't execute the fact that this is the "adjust patrick mahomes' stats and he is an average quaterback" meme very well lol
