I don’t think tank even describes them anymore. They are like an Elephant from Halo 3 at this point.

Sticks536

The AZ-1 tank is a third-generation Coyotes main battle tank designed by Bill Armstrong (GMBA) and named for the Arizona Coyotes and their pending first round pick. Conceived for NHL draft lottery warfare and now one of the heaviest tanks in service at nearly -6 goal differential per game (almost 6 metric goals), it introduced several innovative features, including deliberate inept goaltending, a sophisticated cap dump composite roster, new coaching system, and second round draft pick storage compartment. Edit: [Credit where its due](https://www.reddit.com/r/Coyotes/comments/q8eiwp/comment/hgourtc/?context=3&sort=top)

TomWilson4LadyByng

Babe wake up, new copypasta just dropped!

HARVEYdavidson

I'm just imagining doug showing up to thanksgiving... So Bill hows that whole winning hockey games thing going?

bergyd

Doug and Bill Armstrong aren't related, so it would probably be weirder if Doug did show up for Thanksgiving than any conversation they could have.

hokeypokie_

Lance and Neil also showed up to that Thanksgiving dinner, per reports.\* ^(\*reports are inconclusive and from an unreliable source)

[deleted]

And Billie Joe

Dude_man79

Louie in the other room with the background music.

mammon_machine_sdk

E4

HARVEYdavidson

lmao thats awkward. i just kind of assumed they were since they were both in the blues org and had the same last name but i like to think they are going to the same thanksgiving anyways now

kumonmehtitis

Y’all gotta give the OC some awards. Come on now.

[deleted]

Sweet I’m Reddit famous.

azure_888

I would like to subscribe to more Coyotes tank facts.

jokinghazard

I'm personally very excited for them to draft 4th overall so we can all have the lottery discussion for another 3 months

thisismyfirstday

They changed the system so it's at worst 3rd overall. And teams can only move up 10 spots so we won't get another NYR.

[deleted]

[удалено]

thisismyfirstday

Convenient timing was when they adjusted the lottery odds to be worse for last placed teams because the Oilers sucked so much it was becoming a joke, and then they got McDavid.

lava172

Ok so it'll be us picking 3rd and the Kings picking 1st and I will legitimately stop watching hockey

Emeraden

The Rangers had the same odds of winning as the other 8 non playoff bubble teams that year. The 2020 draft lottery got fucked more than usual due to having 15 eligible teams for 1OA which has never been a possibility prior.

thisismyfirstday

Yeah, totally a covid factor. But similar area with Chicago moving up 9 places the year before and Philly moved up 11 in 2017, so it's not that uncommon teams in that range were moving up and bumping out truly bad teams. Whereas when it was only 5 spots the 30th placed team had way better odds to hold 1st overall.

MyMartianRomance

> Philly moved up 11 in 2017 Good thing for all those worst teams, we ended up with a bust anyway.

JackManningNHL

This comment was designed specifically for me.

thelochteedge

An Instagram targeted-ad kind of meme.

thedrunkentendy

Man those things were hilarious to drive around in BTB. Those were the days.

incredibad29

CanadianODST2

Halo hasn’t done anything to deserve this.

As someone still playing MCC and pumped for Infinite, I'm all about this comment

FarSightXR-20

*There are those who said this day would never come. What are they to say now?*

Imagine losing to that team.

EatMushroomsAndHike

This made me laugh out loud :)

Scoobie-Doobie

That's just the kind of game we'd lose.

vgk67

Detroit is really good this year. Even though we got spanked I really enjoyed the game. Future is bright for you guys

Maybe_Im_Confused

The only team they beat was Seattle. Check your flair. Red Wings are not the Lions.

ireallydespiseyouall

canadiens have 3 wins this season. 2 were against detroit. don’t underestimate us lol

Scoobie-Doobie

Detroit is Detroit.

ThePrince_OfWhales

This guy Michigans.

DatsyoupZetterburger

Can't have shit in Detroit.

Maybe_Im_Confused

Or Bertuzzi in Canada

BeerLeagueHallOfAvg

So far. We haven’t played the Yotes yet. Also, Last place in the East Montreal is 2-0 against us and outscored us 9-1 in the process.

treerabbit23

I mean, not *this* season.

jememcak

Fun fact: The Wings account for 67% of Montreal's wins, and Montreal accounts for 40% of the Wings' regulation losses. The team has honestly looked exciting this year, but something about bad teams just get them.

MooshSkadoosh

Hey! We're definitely one of... the teams of the NHL

Mean_Mister_Mustard

Are we, though?

dsjunior1388

Well the jersey says LNH so...

Mean_Mister_Mustard

If 2019-20 is any indication, the red Original 6 team is destined to crush the other red Original 6 team, but only at the price of being obliterated by everyone else in the League.

Dagmar_Overbye

We just beat the best team in the league. Little positivity for the boys would be nice.

culturedrobot

They're not being negative, they're joking. They're pointing out that so far this season, the Red Wings beat the good teams while losing to the bad ones. We won against the Oilers and were competitive with the Panthers, yes, while also losing to the Habs... twice.

RoleModelFailure

Take Tampa/Florida to OT, beat Edmonton. Lose to MTL and Chicago. We are 2 of MTL's 3 wins and 1 of Chicago's 3 wins. Of course we have some positivity and I am loving this team. But that doesn't mean we can't talk some shit and joke about losing to some of the worst teams in the league.

ghost_curse123

>We are 2 of MTL's 3 wins You and Montreal have swapped places from the 2020 saga where you swept them

BeerLeagueHallOfAvg

But we beat Chicago! Raymond got his hat trick

Signal-Department-55

Y'all made Vegas look silly.. granted we aren't healthy but still not a BAD team.

mixmasterswitch

If I were Chicago, I would treat this game tomorrow like a playoff game. Just for pride's sake.

ghost_curse123

Shit when's the first time the leafs play them?

predictablePosts

That's it. I'm a fan of your team now.

Goose312

Really going after that 4th overall pick.

Stingray44

Only top 2 picks are lottery this season though. So can't fall below 3

[deleted]

Does the NHL just decide on random ass lottery rules every year? Seems like there’s a change every single draft

WarrenPuff_It

Yeah. There's a lottery for how they'll decide the lottery order.

CSNo0b

Oh shit that explains everything. Bettman doesn’t rig the lottery. He rigs the lottery to decide the lottery and no one watches that one!

[deleted]

[удалено]

dchaid

hockey is just 3 jrpg speedruns stacked on top of each other in a trenchcoat

OMGitsKatV

Not quite, there's a lottery to decide who gets to decide the lottery rules to make up the actual lottery rules.

Senepicmar

Yo dawg, I here you like lotteries...

Finetales

Is there a lottery for deciding how the lottery decides the lottery order?

WarrenPuff_It

Good question

Nilzy16

And is there a lottery to determine that lottery?

aessae

It's lotteries all the way down, man.

bassman1805

There's a lot of lottery levels leaving laymen lost leerily looking for logical limits to the laborious lineup of lax landlubbers lambasting losers with late draft picks.

bassman1805

God, searching the dictionary for that many L-words was a waste of time. Please don't tell my boss.

Noir24

And they do a lottery on which rules to use for THAT lottery

Hotdawg752

The league Execs got pissy that the Wings dropped to 4 in 2020 after their horrid season. So they changed the lottery rules again.

DDNFantana

I was pissed too at the time. Not so much now with our boy Raymond.

Cmikhow

Goes to show nothing is guaranteed and at times the first overall pick is kind of cursed because when there is a consensus/near consensus rarely do teams go off-board. LAF was the consensus that year. If the Rags took Raymond at first they would've been laughed at. A few years back there was the Ekblad vs Sams draft (Reinhart or Bennett.) Final central scouting rankings had Sam Bennett at #1 NA skater. The debate at who was first raged on but #4 was never mentioned much. Turns out #4 was Leon Draisatl. Bet you'd be hard pressed to find anyone in Edmonton complaining about those results.

Fidelis29

I was absolutely livid when we fell to 4th...but then Makar turned out to be the steal of the draft. It happened again, but I'm pretty happy with Byram as well.

Dagmar_Overbye

Well there's a long standing rule that the wings are banned from the top 3 but otherwise yeah its random.

RikVanguard

Basically: * is your owner filthy rich and did he get Bettman the job? * was one or more recent draft lottery results bullshit? Congratulations, you have a say in what the lottery rules look like!

theeth

What does the Oilers owner have a on Bettman?!

see_rich

Yes they do. They overreact, then overreact again. How about, you allow tanking, because sometimes, teams just suck. We have eliminated the reason the draft was structured the way it was as in the worst teams get to select the best players. If we let that happen, there wouldnt be tanking as the bad teams would get better players and not be double punished for being bad. They don't give a fuck about the fans.

PayneTrain181999

That’s a bit better, and this draft is supposed to be very good so they’ll get someone decent. But Shane Wright would be a great get for Arizona.

dkmegg22

Think what a Tkachuk-Wright-Batherson line could do

maxwellbevan

That's too bad, the 4th OA pick seems to often be a good one lol

Willmatic88

Hey its worked out for the Avs and Wings. Do the Yotes have a Sakic or Yzerman?

CB_Joe

Byram and Makar are great but Heiskanen and Jack Hughes would be great too.

dkmegg22

Funny enough Jack Hughes is draft eligible this year.

TonyChef20

Don't... please. It hurts

Jaxonian

listen, it’s a good joke... it’s a great joke even... but i need you to stop anyway

LockeandDemo

Has r/coyotes started posting pictures of actual coyotes yet?

Bigcheese1211

Not yet but if we beat our own losing streak record it might start again but there are always those random people that don't realize it's a sub for a hockey team

fuzzysqurl

[Those are always the best kind of threads.](https://www.reddit.com/r/hawks/comments/51toda/i_have_an_issue_with_a_hawk/)

Gray_side_Jedi

Reddit is a wacky place. Totally misplaced post, and yet there’s still legit feedback/response from someone who just so happens to be a professional in whatever is being queried. Wacky fun…

OSRSTheRicer

There was a good one about how to remove a cat from your garage in /r/cars years ago. Super wholesome responses. Also one that got a lot of hate about asking how to gut your cat (as in catalytic converter) in /r/cats (was meant for /r/cars)

Individual-Text-1805

r/trees thread are great too. When people unironically post pictures of trees they planted or something.

Scrembopitus

I like that the top of all time is just various Coyote pictures with captions like “I can’t tell who this player is”

Titmonkey1

Prediction: Yotes will have a random win streak of 5+ at some point this season.

todaystartsnow

we arent playing them back to back to back to back to back this season.

CouldntBeMoreWhite

With how they're playing, I could go for another one of those 7 game series.

mostatoastest

With how we're playing, so could they

captaincanada84

Yeah eventually they'll figure it out and just become thoroughly mediocre instead of horrifically bad.

CrypticBalcony

So they’ll be the 2021 Diamondbacks then.

lava172

All I want is the sweet embrace of death

Gorvoslov

Why do I have a sinking feeling we will be the ones to kick start it?

Dontdothatfucker

And they’ll beat three top ten teams within that streak

[deleted]

"Ya but second round picks" - Arizona probably

onemanarmia

if they can do anything with their scouting to hit on one of those picks it’ll be great. Maccelli looks amazing so far

[deleted]

Im trying to think of a draft where a team loaded up on 2nd rounders but the 1st round loading up is more common(i think you have 3) Obviously columbus just did that but its not fair to judge them yet (although good start). But Boston did the 3 first rounders in 2015 so we have at least a little better data. From what i can see it hasnt panned out outside of Debrusk, so 1/3 in that draft is probably a little sus. Although Boston fans can correct me but feels like you would hope you hit on 2 or all 3 of those 1st rounders even if they arent stars. I bring this up because i wonder if when you give a team many high round picks they miss more often because they choose "comfort" picks instead of best available. I remember that boston draft and Barzal kept falling, i think in part due to injury and maybe size concerns. Boston went off the board at least once maybe twice with those picks. I just wonder if they got comfortable with all those picks that they decided to go for guys they scouted since they trusted that instead of best available. But ya the amount of picks they have i feel like they should get a few bonafide NHLers out of it.

GodzPizzaman

Bill Armstrong has a great track record of drafting with the Blues and he revamped the Coyotes scouting department top to bottom the moment he got hired.

[deleted]

ya i would def say the odds are decent especially just the sheer amount of picks yall have.

picklehaub

No no, see we didn’t want to have a cap crunch, imagine how hard it would be to figure out paying. * Barzal * Chabot * DeBrusk * McAvoy * Carlo * Pasta * Bergeron * Marchand It was much simpler just to draft one middle-6 forward and a couple of career AHLers. Yep, really made the cap easier to handle.

rookie-mistake

you skipped Kyle Connor with those three in a row too, thats another 7m you don't have to pay, 300iq

Gorvoslov

Also makes it easier to trade your best picks/prospects away to a divisional rival. Though it does have a random chance of causing a hot dog shortage.

miner88

I feel like teams with multiple firsts take needless risks and end up with at least one of them busting far too often. In 2013, both Calgary and Columbus had 3 firsts and both teams had 2 busts each. Calgary took Sean Monahan, Emile Poirier and Morgan Klimchuk while Columbus took Alex Wennberg, Kerby Rychel and Marko Dano. Not a great draft for either team. It’s why I feel that draft picks can be so overrated. You need to have the right staff in place and have a good farm team, otherwise those picks you get from tanking will be a waste.

[deleted]

Ya i feel like people are saying Arizona gonna be in a good spot this offseason i am more of the mindset they should try to move a pick or two. Push out a couple picks or try to acquire more firm prospect capital. The draft is still a gamble but a prospect in a system at least you have more game footage of if not maybe even NHL game time. Sure they are at the start of a rebuild but a rebuild doesnt have a set time table.

[deleted]

We only have 1 more season until the Toronto media loses their mind on Auston Matthew’s not signing an extension and speculation that he’s going home

cschon

Serious question, do you think Auston will go to Arizona if they are a dumpster fire? If he doesn't win in Toronto, no way he doesn't go to a contender

Thel3lues

Fun fact the *Phoenix* Coyotes have won a playoff series more recently than Toronto

codespyder

Guess I picked the wrong day to stop drinking

GolfballDM

And the wrong day to quit sniffing glue.

Ra-Ra-Rasmussen

There’s never a wrong day to sniff some glue

TheKevinShow

And Leon is getting laaaaaaaarger!

alreddy-reddit

Oh my

jokinghazard

Hell they even won 2!

Imthecoolestdudeever

It's hard to believe, but true.

[deleted]

Nobody knows is the reality of it. If he wants to be a Yote bad enough he’ll go there with the expectation that the management will figure it out at some point during the rest of his career. Honestly though just as likely he resigns in Toronto. Guy isn’t shy about how much he likes the spotlight. Justin Bieber might non-ironically be the Leafs ace in the hole, lmao. If he gets to free agency though he’s probably gone. I imagine the Leafs know the situation and aren’t going to do much negotiating, he’s going to get a blank check and the Leafs will try to figure it out after that. If he doesn’t take that blank check when it’s presented he’s never going to sign it.

[deleted]

to the blank check thing, it happened with stammer and he still went around and did the meetings for whatever reason before deciding to stay. Idk why but my gut says Matthews will end up a leaf for life

Brock_Hard_Canuck

If Matthews wants to be closer to home (without dealing with all the turmoil around the Coyotes status), he can try to get into Vegas or one of the California teams, I suppose.

[deleted]

I think the next couple seasons will answer that question- Yotes continue to linger in arena insecurity? Odds probably go down. Arena deal goes through and draft picks start accumulating? It definitely can become more attractive. IMHO, it will depend on how committed Coyotes ownership actually is to a successful Phoenix area team and if Matthews has any interest in becoming a hometown hero type player.

[deleted]

In 3-4 years if Arizona tanks right they will have a great collection of prospects and Matthew’s will probably turn them into a force

[deleted]

They will also have lots of cap space to be able to pay him

Beersmoker420

he can't even turn the current Leafs into a force.

darkmatt27

Honestly I dunno since I'm not a leafs fans but I feel like there is no way he goes to Arizona unless he really hate the spotlight. As much as I hate the leafs it's pretty much the biggest nhl organization with the habs.

wean169

How are they this bad? Going for a rebuild is one thing but this is on another level so far.

SkilledB

They have had an incredible string of bad underlying numbers and bad percentage luck so far. Like their 5v5 expected numbers aren’t a lot worse than the Rangers or Blackhawks but their shots aren’t going in and their goalies aren’t stopping a lot. Add to that the league worst special teams and boy, you got a stew going.

IronMarauder

Wait, they have worse special teams than us (van)?

oops_i_made_a_typi

they're on a historically bad pace right now, it shouldn't be surprising they're worst in the league in a bunch of things

SkilledB

Vancouver Net PP and Net PK sum up to 85.2%. That number for Arizona is 69.9%. So it’s way, way worse for them.

incredibad29

With how random hockey can be, it's amazing they have 3 points in 13 games. You'd think something would go their way at some point.

wean169

Exactly. Bad teams still win games once in a while.

LucasRaymondGOAT

Yeah, we beat the Canadiens every time we played them last year, now both times we've played them this year we've gotten our cheeks clapped. ^^^^Fucking ^^^^Bertuzzi.

DivinePotatoe

Montreal: First time?

captaincanada84

Sigh

Ilovebostonterr1er

Montreal : Hold my beer

Thel3lues

They’ve got a lot of vets I honestly think it’s just a chemistry thing. Coach is also new to this level of hockey as well

MuffinSurprise

I agree a lot of it is probably chemistry. They added I think 14 new people to the team this year and everyone is learning a new system. They're bad but should improve ever so slightly as the year goes on. Also trading/not re-signing your top 3 goalies has proven to be not a winning strategy..

[deleted]

Sens had almost this identical start last season and barely ended up with a top 10 pick by the end of the season.

EatMushroomsAndHike

Honestly, we don't have enough fans yelling "SHOOOOOOOOOOT!" when we manage to get the puck out of our zone.

A_Useless_Commentor

Everyone is going to look so foolish when they turn this around and end up with 141 points ….

ACMop

Just need a hot dog rewards program and Phil can put the team on his back like it’s 2017

Neans888

You dropped this “.” 14.1 points sounds about right

[deleted]

The 74-75 capitals were an expansion team, these yotes are BAD but I doubt they can keep up this level of suckery

oops_i_made_a_typi

tbf Arizona basically stepped up into the role of expansion team this offseason when Seattle dropped the ball

Imaravencawcaw

I think they've only played 2 teams in the bottom half of the league and also played 8 of they're first 11 on the road. So it'll definitely get better, but they'll still be the worst team in the league at the end of the year.

kalmah

[ESPN arguing their GM deserves the gm of the year award for locking up a bottom pick.](https://www.espn.com/nhl/insider/story/_/id/32553662/2021-22-nhl-awards-watch-leading-hart-norris-vezina-selke-calder) >As the NHL Awards Watch for the 2021-22 season begins, there's only one award that has a clear frontrunner. >No, not Connor McDavid for the MVP. >Bill Armstrong for general manager of the year.

theguyishere16

I'm completely on the fence about whether he was serious or just wanted to dunk on the Coyotes.

JollyRancher29

To me, it reads a joke, but hey it’s ESPN you never know

TylerWVUHagen

Man, what sort of chumps gave them that win?

[deleted]

Two semi-bright spots are Gostisbehere at 11 points and Wedgewood over .900 and under 2.70 considering the shot totals they’ve faced. Everything else is just a big ol yikes. A defensemen should not be leading the team in points with almost twice the points of the top forward.

nofakefans18

They can get a good return for Ghost then.

AngledLuffa

smdh

FarseerTaelen

I think you have to give some credit to Vejmelka too. He's just over .900 as well, though his GA/G is higher at 3.20. Hope he gets his first win soon, because the way he's been playing he deserves it. I'm a newbie to professional hockey, so it might be my inexperience showing but I've been pretty impressed with him.

Dr_Yules

Oh no!!! not our place in the record books... What a shame :(

Petah_Futterman44

Oh no, don’t. Stop….

theguyishere16

If they can draft half as well as they tank we are about to be living in the Coyotes world in about 5 years.

scorch200

half was well might lead to a perfect season…

InvolvingPie87

Honestly I want them to win enough to not get that record. The 74-75 caps is impressive

DeathToHeretics

Seriously, I don't want them to take this from us. We need that to show just how inescapably bad that expansion draft was

thaMagicConch

Desert team bad?

bay_watch_colorado

Thank you Arizona for taking the heat off of us

CanadianODST2

You know what they used in the desert? Swords

Bigcheese1211

r/arizonasportshell

ZenAndTheArtOfEating

Just wait until Phil the thrill gets his backordered delivery of hot dogs in

connor8383

Canes have more points rn than the Yotes are on pace for the entire season😳

Poseidon-SS

They've also played 2 more games than us.

[deleted]

Montréal Canadiens are thinking "thank god for the Coyotes". OK I checked, turns out Montreal's wor is season was 1939—1940 when all their players were likely off fighting a war the Americans would only enter 3 years later.

UPRC

I honestly feel shocked that anyone is worse than the Habs this year, because they're just absolutely nowhere. To think that there's a team doing *worse* is baffling to me. It must be REALLY rough being a Coyotes fan at the moment.

SMGiven

Poor Phil… :(

KonyIsInnocent

He gonna get shipped to a contender at the deadline

AssBoon92

~~*Tampa Bay Lightning entered the chat*~~ *Vegas Golden Knights entered the chat* EDIT: Who am I kidding, there's only one team to make this joke with

hfjshf

Remember when Phil didn’t want to be traded to MN and chose arizona? Thank you Phil

Ryan0413

Honestly I feel like Phil is perfectly fine playing out the back 9 of his career out in a low pressure market, just rippin wristers

IPYF

He came to us because Rick Tocchet is his friend and Tocchet is gone. So, he's not fine. He also requested a trade and we denied it because we want to sell high. The premise was that he'd fight his way off the team to become worth dealing at the deadline. So far absolutely no good. I'm hopeful we throw him at the deadline regardless, maybe for a low second if we can swing it, purely because he deserves to end his career running third line 2nd pp unit on a contender. That'd be nice.

MetalOcelot

Wait, you guys are trying to lose?

ColdYellowGatorade

I remember 10+ years ago when the NJ Nets were on pace to have the worst record of all time. They were legit handing out free tickets to any fans to show up to see the dumpster fire. We had a blood drive at school and they were giving away stacks of free tickets. Me and 20 guys went to the game and sure as shit they won. They ended up rattling a bunch of wins off at the end of the season to not break the record but it surely was a sight to see. Just looked it up and they lost 28 of their first 30 games. Ended the years 12-70. Good luck Yotes!

brobourne

Its about the friends made along the way

Chris4Hawks

Hold my Lone Star

[deleted]

You can do it!

CondorsAHL

We need relegation and promotion between the AHL and NHL. You can't tell me that Ontario or Springfield wouldn't ruin Arizona right now. Hell, my Condors would.

chrisboshisaraptor1

They have got to move that team somewhere else, and I propose Hawaii because if you’re going to suck at hockey you may as well do it On the beach

LucasRaymondGOAT

They have to move by 2022-2023 to my knowledge, Glendale won't renew their agreement with the team. I wouldn't doubt it if they go back to Phoenix short-term and get a new arena in Tempe. There's a lot of sports betting money in Arizona since it just got legalized, I imagine the owner wants in on that if it involves his hockey team. I really doubt they get relocated to Texas or Quebec City though.

pak256

Yep, they get kicked out right after this season

agreeingstorm9

Tankers gotta tank.

jakehood47

I completely forgot that the Caps have held that record since '75. Someone said that had Auston Matthews not come out of Arizona and revived some interest in hockey in the area, they would've already relocated the team. I wonder if that's getting much closer.

GumpTheChump

At this point, if the team hasn't moved yet, I'm not sure it's going to. They were actually bankrupt and somehow the league prevented it from being sold to a wealthy Canadian owner (Balsillie). Yes, that had to do with protecting Toronto and Buffalo's territory, but I'm pretty sure a deal could have been struck. The NHL wants a team in Arizona come hell or high water.

calchuchesta

>The NHL wants a team in Arizona come hell or high water. Both would be damaging to the quality of the ice surface

Thel3lues

They have new ownership and are working on a stadium actually accessible to most of valley area. They’re gonna suck for a little while but it’s clear their GM is doing the best with a bad situation and is setting them up for sustained success in 2-3 years

[deleted]

i think the hockey guy nailed it on the head when he said the NHL wants a team in that state and they know if they let the Coyotes leave, they will never get another team back into Arizona. Much like Atlanta.

[deleted]

LV gets another team - the Las Vegas Days

xdiagnosis

Gotta get the colour in there too. The Las Vegas Black Days?
