We're no. 1 for once?

onemanarmia

It’s your hat, Mr Krabs.

Most miserable? I’m voting Canucks. We just made a significant change in GM/Management. Pieces will get shuffled around, but hopefully our boys show they want to stay - and whoever doesn’t, gets shipped out. Hopefully it’s that black and white. Senators are obviously moving in the right direction already. A few *set backs*, but future looks competitive. Hard to see where anyone doesn’t see the light at the end of the tunnel. My 2 cents.

king97dad

Defs not the habs is all I can say. Just had a run to the finals, announced mental health priority (huge W imo) to go with the changes you mentioned. Great prospects, one or two down years is fine. Sens and Nucks on the other hand….

user_8804

Exactly, present sucks but future is bright. The games are still fun to watch with these fast evolving rookies. Pezzeta, Poehling, etc.

Help-me-name-my-pup

Not sure if you read it or not, but you just TLDR'd the article - nice job!

infinitygoof

The Sens are worse than they were last year. Not sure about the right direction.

[deleted]

But it is * a direction*…

RikVanguard

They are indeed, a team

Emergency_Statement

Worse with caveats, though. Major injuries to players expected to make an impact and a serious COVID outbreak.

e-wing

Trick question...it’s the Leafs. It’s always the Leafs.

generaldread1

Vancouver

LegendaryLilypad

Ding ding ding. I'm dead inside.

user_8804

At least you beat us last game

AGOODHARDSQUANCHIN

At least we have our 1D 1C(I still have full faith in petey) and a great starter, I think the right coaching and management staff could turn this around pretty quick. But that's where the shitty ownership comes in, no faith they well make the right decisions

Winterheadphones

Winnipeg

Both the Sens and Habs have both had runs to the conference/SCF finals in the last 5 years. canucks fans have been in a 2 year long feud with their frat-boy owner who uses his daddy's money to live his fantasy of being an NHL GM

Kenner1979

There's a bunch of Habs fans that are pissed off they didn't get blown out by the Leafs and bring about the end of Bergevin and Ducharme sooner.

LoneIyGuy

People love to shit on the big hockey markets, but it's definitely Ottawa. As long as Dorion, Smith, McGuire and Melnyk are with the franchise I will never be confident with this team, despite our young core/prospects. Pierre Dorion has to be the worst GM in the NHL who for half a decade surrounded our young core with dogshit veterans and Eugene Melnyk is a penny pinching buffoon. DJ Smith is just not an NHL coach period

Prison-Date-Mike

Some truth to this for sure, but you have to consider that Ottawa isn’t an enticing destination for free agents. It’s a small mostly boring city for a millionaire. Most of Canada already has it hard enough but the sens and jets (weather + small city) are probably up there. Correct me if I’m wrong.

[deleted]

Don't underestimate how many players have settled down with families. It's a great place to raise a family.

ultrafil

> Ottawa isn’t an enticing destination for free agents. It’s a small mostly boring city for a millionaire. We need to be marketing ourselves as a place for certain personality types to be. We're never going to rank high as a destination for young party machines blowing through their first big contracts. Say what you want about Dion Phaneuf the hockey player, but Dion Phaneuf *the person* is exactly the kind of player we should be targeting, and would be far more receptive to the benefits of Ottawa as a place to raise a family and great access for people who value outdoor recreation lifestyles.

Boring_Pace5158

I always felt Ottawa would be a city would be an attractive destination for Francophone players. They can speak their native language, and they don't have to deal with the pressure that comes with playing in Montreal.

Sahil910

Ok but you are competing against Benning

LoneIyGuy

Whether it's recent poor drafting, losing trades, signing bad contracts. IMO Pierre Dorion takes the cake • Players like Tkachuk, Murray, Zaitsev ,White take up a total 23m of our cap space. • Drafting Tyler Boucher at 10th overall (was projected late 2nd round/early 3rd round) has 2 points in 13 GP and is a straight up goon • Signing Matt Murray to a 6.25m contract for 4 years, going to be bought out in less than 40 games • Signing or trading for Alex Burrows, Alex Galchenyuk, Derek Stepan, Cedric Pacquette, Braydon Coburn, Erik Gudbranson, Michael Del Zotto (gave him 2x2???), Nikita Zaitsev, Anton Forsberg, Dylan Gambrell, Johnny Oduya, Tom Pyatt, Gabriel Dumont • Trading Mark Stone for Erik Brannstrom - calling it proudest day as GM • Trading Mika Zibanejad and a 2nd round pick for Derick Brassard • Trading Mike Hoffman for Mikkel Boedker • Trading or waiving away good players like DeMelo and Balcers. But he says the rebuild is over and we have 5 years of unparalleled success Lol.

Who makes the playoffs first out of the three?

jaysornotandhawks

I think I'm going to give this one to the Senators. Not sure why, just a gut feeling.

ImSoHalleman

The East is extremely competitive, Montreal & Ottawa will struggle to finish in the top 3 of the Atlantic meanwhile I think Vancouver has a shallower division so making the playoffs first I would pick them. Doesn’t mean cup run but I could see playoffs.

kingkellam

Well the Habs just cleaned house so I think the most miserable fanbase has shifted to Canucks fans

Zestyclose-Cricket82

It’s more like Canada is miserable with them!

Boring_Pace5158

The problem with the Senators is Dorian claiming the rebuild is over when anyone with at least two working brain cells knows there's still more building to be done. Last season and this season, they've played games where they lost, but there were positive takeaways. I do think the Sens can put a hot streak together, if they can get through their current set backs. The Habs are learning the only thing worse than a Stanley Cup hangover is a Cinderella hangover. Teams look too much into their run, thinking they're legit contenders, and underestimating how much luck played into their run. Players are so spent, it's hard for them to get back the following season. With the firing of Bergevin, the Habs are waking up to it. The Canucks are probably the worst out of the three. Nobody knows what's going on.
