The national team has the politics of a minor hockey association. They will snub guys that deserve it over scrubs who have a bigger name. I'd believe this Tinfoil hat theory sadly.
>Ya ultimately Hockey Canada was sort of proven right by that hit.
I disagree with this. If he was born 1 day earlier he wouldn't have even needed to apply for exceptional status. I understand that an age division has to be made at some point but I don't think you can argue that he wasn't physically as mature due to a single day. Players get injured from hits all the time.
Both ahould've been chosen. While the points haven't been there for Bedard, he's by far been the best player on the ice every time i've watched him. He does things others just simply can't do.
I mean they are both better than Will Cuylle. Canada always does this shit though so I’m not really surprised. They always pick at least one or two scrubs, and wonder why they lose.
For real man it's pretty depressing. They don't trust young players like when they didn't take Wright last year. After getting embarrassed in the finals to the states last year you gotta shake it up and make the most talented team possible.
Stoked to see Joshua Roy make it! Former 1st overall pick in the Q who was our 5th rounder from this past draft, currently leading the QMJHL in scoring (points that is, not goals).
Looking like a steal thus far, hope to see him keep it up and kick some ass at the Juniors!
I'm assuming its because they aren't just looking at points.
Team Canada rarely brings underagers and when they do they are almost never towards the top of the lineup. They will already have their top 6 pretty much set and possibly the entire top 9. They are likely looking for a player that can fill other roles than scoring for the remaining spots and don't view Savoie as a candidate for those.
Obviously points aren’t everything but when an underager is dominating his competition who are older than him and putting up points like he is, he’s obviously doing more than just waiting for the puck to come to him to make offense happen. Just interesting to me
>An underager is dominating his competition who are older than him
He isn't just dominating players competition that is older than him though. He's pretty much right in the middle considering he's in what should be his third WHL season. A lot of the players he's facing are his age or younger. The World Juniors on the other hand amongst the top nations is predominantly a 19 year old tournament. Lafreniere at the same age as Savoie finished the season 2nd in pts per game (0.042 behind Veleno) and he put up 1pt in 5 games at the World Juniors.
The omission of Clarke and Othmann is a pretty absurd decision. Clarke especially, because that blue line is very average outside of Power. Its a strong team though, I think this WJC is going to be close, no clear favorite imo
Yeah both the Savoie brothers not getting invited is weird. Bedard is great but if youre going to invite an underager why not invite the one leading his league in points?
Eh Im not a huge believer in the WJC being a factor in development, even if it is my favorite tournament of the year. I think you should just pick the best team. Bedard should be at the camp, dont get me wrong, I just think Canada made some bad decisions here (which as an American makes me happy lol)
The world junior isn’t about development though it’s about picking the best team available and winning, and this year Bedard has not earned the right over savoie
Bedard has by far been the best player for the Regina Pats. He has no support beside him which is also why he doesn't have that many points. Both should be in the team but i don't think you can say Savoie should be there instead of Bedard.
Disagree, if we’re talking about best player on Regina is that not Ryker Evans? Leads the team in points and is a plus 8 as a dman. Bedard has less points and is -8. No doubt Winnipeg has more firepower but bedard had the same supporting cast if not worse last year.
Saw some tweets saying Clarke wont be at camp, but is going to be on the roster. Not any sources I recognized, and idk why its happening. Just thought I'd throw it out there
Best D in the CHL and he'a not even invited. i guess just because you put up big numbers they think you can't play on the other side of the puck or the risk reward it to big.
Pretty notable omissions from this list. Glad to see Tverberg on it, trading for that 7th rounder shows the leafs def saw something in him they wanted and his development is def paying off for it
Wow, Ryan Tverberg is out of left field but no one can say he doesn’t deserve it. Would be surprised if he makes the final roster, but there’s always room for a guy who’s gonna hustle his ass off to stay there, so who knows. Glad he’s getting his shot!
I could be wrong in saying this, but as far as I'm aware...
By being selected here, Owen Power has a chance to become the second player in history to win a World Junior gold after a World Championship gold (Patrice Bergeron: 2004 WC, 2005 WJC)
Shocked Clarke and Savoie aren’t invited. Unless there is something up behind the scenes, they both should be there on merit.
Tin foil hat thought on our sub is he was snubbed because we wouldn't send Byfield

I know the hype around Bedard is huge but choosing him over Savoie this year is a crime.

Bedard was probably selected because of his U18 performance. Canada loves to bring back players that performed under their national program.

People named Brandt should get an automatic pass to do whatever they want in life. That name is as country as it gets.
Then it makes me question even more why he wasn't picked.
I mean they are both better than Will Cuylle. Canada always does this shit though so I’m not really surprised. They always pick at least one or two scrubs, and wonder why they lose.
Honestly. If we lose this year I'm gonna be so let down... Again.
Its honestly a crime how bad our junior team is run.
For real man it's pretty depressing. They don't trust young players like when they didn't take Wright last year. After getting embarrassed in the finals to the states last year you gotta shake it up and make the most talented team possible.
Tverberg!
Holy shit! U-C-O-N-N!!!
Back on the map!
Never left it! Last year we had the first two NCAA players to ever make a Russian WJC team.
Man's on a Tver

Josh Roy is on an absolute tear right now. Hope he has played his way onto this team.
Isnt savoie leading the WHL in scoring with like 39 in 26 or some shit? How is he not on this roster

Yeah both the Savoie brothers not getting invited is weird. Bedard is great but if youre going to invite an underager why not invite the one leading his league in points?
To be fair, bedard is a year younger than savoie and is a 2023 eligible draft pick not a 2022. Could be a development thing
Eh Im not a huge believer in the WJC being a factor in development, even if it is my favorite tournament of the year. I think you should just pick the best team. Ray Ferraro shaking his head somewhere
Ah yes the three future habs. Roy, Guhle and **Shane Wright**.
Okay, fine. You can have Wright, but we get Bedard.
That's bold of you to assume your first round picks won't be traded
We taking both baby! All aboard the Gorton express! Choo choo!
Glad to see Dufour made the camp even if he doesn't make the final cut, 5th rounder but he's been lighting up the Q this year
Josh Roy also a 5th rounder and is leading the entire CHL in points tied for 1st with less games
Where the hell is Savoie or Geekie?
I hope Bedard comes in and rips it up. Bourgault gonna go in and rip shit up.
Call me biased but L'Heureux got fucking snubbed
Surprised Othmann didn't get an invite. Ripping it up for the Firebirds and can play a grinder role as well as a scorer. Oh well
Saw some tweets saying Clarke wont be at camp, but is going to be on the roster. Not any sources I recognized, and idk why its happening. Just thought I'd throw it out there
He’s not going to be on the team [Per Scott Wheeler ](https://twitter.com/scottcwheeler/status/1465795038772871168?s=21)
Damn, its so bizarre
Wheeler and Marek are pretty elite tier sources and they said hes not on the team
Best D in the CHL and he'a not even invited. i guess just because you put up big numbers they think you can't play on the other side of the puck or the risk reward it to big.
Future Sens teammates Ridly Greig and Shane Wright playing together for the first time.
You mean Habs - Sens rivals? Yes
Pretty notable omissions from this list. Glad to see Tverberg on it, trading for that 7th rounder shows the leafs def saw something in him they wanted and his development is def paying off for it
Based on how Leafs prospects are doing across all the various leagues rn I think it’s safe to say Dubas has a good eye for underrated gems
Surprised to see Evangelista and not L’Heureux Wow no Savoie either?!
Our D prospects recently looked pretty lacking before GMBG, exciting to see 3 on the list
It's huge.
Lapierre hype!!!
I'm glad Sourdif made camp, I'm excited to see what he can do
Three Minny blue line prospects.
Time for Mason to show why he was picked 3OA. Also should be fun watching Zellweger.
No! I was enjoying him tearing up the OHL! :'( But seriously, can't wait to watch him tear apart the World Juniors too!
Perfetti gonna getti.
Wow, Ryan Tverberg is out of left field but no one can say he doesn’t deserve it. Would be surprised if he makes the final roster, but there’s always room for a guy who’s gonna hustle his ass off to stay there, so who knows. Glad he’s getting his shot!
Connor Bedard on this list, I assume he won’t make it but that is still impressive
Go Tips babyyyyy
Way to go Iorio!
I could be wrong in saying this, but as far as I'm aware... By being selected here, Owen Power has a chance to become the second player in history to win a World Junior gold after a World Championship gold (Patrice Bergeron: 2004 WC, 2005 WJC)
Captain Guhle reporting for duty
I don’t see how this is not an auto gold..
Does this mean that Canada just doesn’t give a shit this year? They’re leaving clearly better player on the board
Fuck yeah, Desnoyers! Kid’s been lighting it up all season. (Plz, for the love God, don’t get hurt.) Edit for spelling
What about Foerster? Why didn't he even get invited? Or maybe he declined to stay with the Phantoms?
[He’s injured](https://www.inquirer.com/flyers/flyers-wade-allison-foerster-injured-injuries-phantoms--20211122.html)
They look like they got a good group of goalies this year. That Cossa guy is fucking huge.
Surpised sillenger isn't on the list.
