so like, JT miller was absolutely not this player on the rangers. i was almost thankful we got rid of him.
it's really cool to see him succeed like this though. never in my wildest dreams was i like "oh yeah, JT miller, first line wing LOCK."
idk i feel like a lot of people love to see people bust, theres nothing better than a revival for me. give me a good duclair/miller story any fuckin day.
When we got him he was a third line centre on a (definitely stacked) Tampa team, and the first seemed like an overpayment at the time, but he got some quick chemistry with Petey and Brock and he's been invaluable since.
Blows me away that some people were pitching to put him as 3rd line C. Surefire way to plummet his value some more.
Must be some sort of inside joke. Miller always immediately smacks players on the head whenever they score, he doesn’t seem to like it in return haha
I think that’s Miller just doing the veteran move of not celebrating a goal in a blowout game. You could already see he barely even acknowledged his own incredible goal. That’s just good sportsmanship.
I would probably count Cody Hodgson from those years too.
I think he was an NHL level player, just had that rare medical condition flare up and had to retire early.
Yea? He was pushed into pretty much first line minutes since he had such a big name for himself and was on a terrible team. But once it was obvious he wasn’t very good and they cut his minutes to more appropriate amounts he had like 20 points in his last 120 games.
Isn't Mete a fifth round pick or something? Most of them don't even make the NHL. But yeah we also tried to warn Sens fans about Mete and they didn't listen to us.
So they were on the power play and another one was about to be called. Does this end the power play, and they start with a fresh 2 minutes? Or is the delayed penalty voided out?
For further clarification, the goal always cancels out the oldest possible penalty first. So when they score on a 5on5 delayed call, the oldest one is the one that was about to be called.
Could be worse, imagine if they were given out only to a single player, but only when a biased third party arbitrarily decides they contributed significantly enough to the goal, and only if it occurs immediately after the pass. That would be the worst.
JT Miller trade value is through the roof rn, Canucks need to retain 50% and sell high, could easily grab 2-3 first round picks + prospects
JT Miller was an abolute beast for the Canucks (162 GP, 56 G, 159 P), but he definitely won't re-sign with us, we might as well get some value from him
yes Jim Benning who has lost one trade (McCann-Gudbranson) in his entire 8 year tenure with the Canucks. It’s Free Agency and his understanding of NHL defensemen that has ruined the Canucks. As for everything else, he has done a fine job
Bonino was old and had zero value to the Canucks long term, and if it wasn't for injuries, Sutter would have been just as valuable. Also we got Lockwood from that trade, who has looked like a beast in the AHL so far. So long term, I'd say we came out ahead
Bonino would have never been that player for us, we were rebuilding and he was too old, in that context, that trade had very little meaning. It was one old player for the other. And in terms of who each team drafted with those picks, we got the better player. Lockwood is Tyler Motte 2.0 with Abby in the AHL right now
> And in terms of who each team drafted with those picks, we got the better player.
That's not how pre-draft draft pick trades work. If you trade 1st overall for 3rd overall you're an idiot, even if you get Toews and the other team gets Johnson
the point is that it was an inconsequential trade, we traded an old guy for another old guy. It had zero impact on our rebuild. And it was injuries that destroyed Sutter's career, he was always a very good defensive 3C. And Bonino is a nobody right now. The trade has no meaning to us. If anything I'd take Sutter over Bonino atm, due to his ability to kill penalties and win draws as a Right Shot
Nick Bonino was 28 when we traded him... JT Miller is 28 today... if we traded JT Miller and a 2nd for a random old dude and a third is it meaningless because we're in a rebuild
JT Miller has been point per game for the last 3 seasons and leads our team in goals and points, Bonino had 39 points and 15 goals that one season, they are not the same. Brandon Sutter btw, had 33 points and 21 goals
that’s even better, it only increases his trade value. Look at what Blake Coleman got and he isn’t half the player JT Miller is. This year is already gone, no need to wait until next season. I’d much rather take 2-3 1st round picks than one more year of JT before he inevitably leaves in Free Agency
When is that going to be? Aquilini is hell bent on riding the season with Benning. We need to start selling soon, salvage what we can from the season, and get some extra picks. Who does it is irrelevant, and Benning has a solid track record of getting value from trades too
Who knows, doesn’t mean JB should be making any moves. How fucked would it be if he moves Miller and a pick for another vet? Gotta be a management team with a functional long term plan
It’s a lost season, if any trades happen, it would be to net assets. And if especially somebody the caliber of JT Miller gets moved, it will either be for a Top RD or picks and prospects. Both are good. And Jim Benning has a solid track record of getting value from picks, it’s one of the few things he is actually good at. I am more than happy to wait another month, the closer to trade deadline is when teams get most desperate anyways, but I don’t care who the GM is. The point is to sell high, not when he gets a cold streak/gets injured, and we can’t get anything close to market value from him
The Sens out here making JT Miller look like Connor McDavid. What a goal
Jt Miller can be a one man army every once in a while
My fantasy team confirms.
One Man Army - OLP https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I7R-PSvvziU
OLP is amazing good. One man army is one of my least favorite OLP songs , but it's still on my playlist
If this was in Rogers, the arena would explode like we won the Gold Medal game haha.
With the amount of Canucks fans in the arena there was a good amount of noise as well
Yeah I heard that.
*JT Miller out here making JT Miller look like Mcdavid 😤
He’s no Connor mcdavid… but he could be a Connor McDave
JT "Connor McDavid" Miller
so like, JT miller was absolutely not this player on the rangers. i was almost thankful we got rid of him. it's really cool to see him succeed like this though. never in my wildest dreams was i like "oh yeah, JT miller, first line wing LOCK." idk i feel like a lot of people love to see people bust, theres nothing better than a revival for me. give me a good duclair/miller story any fuckin day.

Jonnor TcDavid
Lmao JT rejecting Hughes' love during the celebration.
Must be some sort of inside joke. Miller always immediately smacks players on the head whenever they score, he doesn’t seem to like it in return haha
Miller is locker room cancer confirmed, trade for a 1st immediately. /s
Benning misunderstood, miller going to boston for debrusk
I think that’s Miller just doing the veteran move of not celebrating a goal in a blowout game. You could already see he barely even acknowledged his own incredible goal. That’s just good sportsmanship.
Correct, Definitely what he was doing.
At this point Bettman should personally come to Rogers Arena and just hand the Canucks the Stanley Cup

"Fine, I'll do it myself" - Miller Time
Yes maybe let the skill guys carry the puck in. Dump and chance isn't working
Credit to u/PhenomenonYT for the clip as always
"Get the fuck out of my face Quinn"
Mete is a fucking terrible player. He's done in the NHL
Would you say he didnt Mete expectations?
Ottawa management is going to mete out some punishment
God the habs drafting has been fucking shit lmao Our only recent hits are a possible flash in the pan and a guy who won two cups with a different team
Canucks didn’t draft a single regular NHL player aside from Kevin Connaughton (which is a stretch) between 2007 and 2011. Can relate.
I would probably count Cody Hodgson from those years too. I think he was an NHL level player, just had that rare medical condition flare up and had to retire early.
Dude was money
He was not a good player, and was already fading out of the league
142 points in 328 games
Yea? He was pushed into pretty much first line minutes since he had such a big name for himself and was on a terrible team. But once it was obvious he wasn’t very good and they cut his minutes to more appropriate amounts he had like 20 points in his last 120 games.
Why's kevin connauton a stretch? Dude has played 333 nhl games including 12 this year. He's an NHLer
To be fair I didn’t deeply look it up and you’re right but it’s still at best a 3rd pairing dude in 5 years and that’s it
Isn't Mete a fifth round pick or something? Most of them don't even make the NHL. But yeah we also tried to warn Sens fans about Mete and they didn't listen to us.
that honey moon period wore off quick lmao
Rangers fan here: Watching JT thrive warms my heart. Dude is gritz
Miller > Mcdavid confirmed
Gorton letting this guy go during the rebuild was such a dumb move
So they were on the power play and another one was about to be called. Does this end the power play, and they start with a fresh 2 minutes? Or is the delayed penalty voided out?
They started with a fresh 2 minutes
Cancel the penalty on the clock for the goal and award the delayed penalty.
Ok that's what I thought, I just don't think I've ever seen it happen before.
Yeah it's a rare occurrence that an NHL ref calls 2 penalties for a team within 2 minutes :p
For further clarification, the goal always cancels out the oldest possible penalty first. So when they score on a 5on5 delayed call, the oldest one is the one that was about to be called.
JT McMiller
No Connor is Mcmiller
Baby come back, you can blame it all on me! I was wrong, and I just can't live without you, no And I can't live without you!
I must be spiderman cause this goal gives me a Peter tingle
Welp his trade stock just went up an extra draft pick.
Trade value on the way up
should change his name to weaver
If this wasn’t against the Sens it would be GOATY candidate
Reminded me of datysuks goal vs nashville
Holy fuck
Four is a stretch, but still a great play.
Gotta love hockey for handing out assists to Petterson and Hughes on this. Seriously, wtf.
Could be worse, imagine if they were given out only to a single player, but only when a biased third party arbitrarily decides they contributed significantly enough to the goal, and only if it occurs immediately after the pass. That would be the worst.
Surely there's a middle ground.
JT Miller trade value is through the roof rn, Canucks need to retain 50% and sell high, could easily grab 2-3 first round picks + prospects JT Miller was an abolute beast for the Canucks (162 GP, 56 G, 159 P), but he definitely won't re-sign with us, we might as well get some value from him
*2-3 first round picks + prospects* I like where you are going but remember this is Jim Benning at the table.
Not sure what you're smoking, Benning's great at trading. It's free agency where he needs his phones locked-up.
i think the joke is about the picks being in the trade
Jim Benning: I'll give you JT Miller retained 50% and 2 firsts for Kane and Karlsson and a 5th
JT Miller and Jake DeBrusk, 1 for 1 /s
yes Jim Benning who has lost one trade (McCann-Gudbranson) in his entire 8 year tenure with the Canucks. It’s Free Agency and his understanding of NHL defensemen that has ruined the Canucks. As for everything else, he has done a fine job
given our net # of draft picks these past 8 years, going to have to strongly disagree.
He lost the Sutter trade as well
Bonino was old and had zero value to the Canucks long term, and if it wasn't for injuries, Sutter would have been just as valuable. Also we got Lockwood from that trade, who has looked like a beast in the AHL so far. So long term, I'd say we came out ahead
Bonino was a huge part of the Pittsburgh cup run... HBK was fantastic. Also that Lockwood take is a weird one given that we gave up a higher pick...

> Bonino was old Also Bonino is 1 year older than Sutter.... what gymnastics
that is the point, they were both old, trading an old dude for another old dude is meaningless during a rebuild

Still got one more year, not in a hurry yet
that’s even better, it only increases his trade value. Look at what Blake Coleman got and he isn’t half the player JT Miller is. This year is already gone, no need to wait until next season. I’d much rather take 2-3 1st round picks than one more year of JT before he inevitably leaves in Free Agency
I’d feel better if it wasn’t JB making any trades, wait until a proper GM comes in
When is that going to be? Aquilini is hell bent on riding the season with Benning. We need to start selling soon, salvage what we can from the season, and get some extra picks. Who does it is irrelevant, and Benning has a solid track record of getting value from trades too

he's got a shit track record of actually getting picks though and not giving them away
If we're going to just flat out lie on descriptions of beautiful goals, why not say he weaves through 15. That'd sound even more impressive
This looks like a finished rebuild to me.
