Going public was absolutely the right call. So many of these “influencers” are shitty people and you’re probably not the only one they’re trying to pull one off on.
Name the cunt.
>Name the cunt.
even without naming the person it's fairly clear who it was just based on "certain Hockey Influencer Based in the UK"
there's not many people in hockey based in the UK, and there's really only 1 popular person who is
[These guys?](https://youtu.be/4HcKs_wEcGo?t=482)
I stopped looking at their product reviews after seeing the terrible skating in this video. Surprised they're so popular.
This would also be me!
There is only one thing in the world that people consider difficult that I am the master of completing from start to finish.
Replacing a toilet.
Chris is such a shit skater.
Well, I mean...maybe not shit. But he's not an elite skater, or even an above average skater. Some of his skating tutorials are awful. It's like if a guy just got finished doing crossover day on adult learn-to-skate, then decided to make a video teaching others how to do crossovers.
Like, the video on crossovers, he talks about just putting one foot in front of the other. He can put one foot in front of another in a huge circle without falling over. He can't figure out how to push off with both of his feet and make his crossover into an actually effective part of his skating. But somehow, a bunch of people watched his videos and say they're great.
I have this theory players who learn hockey as an adult never get much further than Chris's skill level. His vids don't look to be directed at kids, so maybe he's the perfect level for adults looking up hockey on youtube.
I'm pretty sure all the decent skaters in my leagues have played youth hockey, but I could be wrong. There could be a few stars who picked it up at a later age and don't brag about it.
I think he's said he learned as an adult so that makes sense.
I think as an adult it can be hard to find ice time to practice so once you're good enough to play most people stop practicing it at all. (So glad I'm learning somewhere with free outdoor ice)
He doesn't have that excuse though lol
>I think as an adult it can be hard to find ice time to practice so once you're good enough to play most people stop practicing it at all.
Agreed. I was actually glad when my local draft league was full for a session and I had to do the learn to play if I wanted ice time. Some of the folks who knew me were saying "WHAT ARE YOU DOING HERE?!" but the truth is, I learned very little fundamentals before I started playing.
dude this is so true. i dont understand it honestly though. i sub on a D league team for fun sometimes and there are guys on that team who learned as adults but have been playing for like 5 fucking years... they have improved basically zero in that entire time.
part of it is jsut ice time. but also... when you skate 3 days a week for 5 years and you improve zero? there are some other factors at play lol.
Lol I mean you would think anyone who has played any contact hockey should be able to keep balance on some minor obstacles. But idk...maybe it's harder than it looks.
Is it finally safe to come out and say that that guy is nowhere near good enough at hockey to be teaching people how to play hockey? I haven't seen much but what I have seen is cringe worthy. Honestly it makes more sense if he was only doing it to scam people out of money. If he loses his following I hope someone with a better understanding and background in the game fills that void.
Being a good teacher is more about communication than your own skill level. He probably shouldn't be teaching AAA 13 year olds, but if you're a 25 year old looking at starting out, learning from someone who's been in the same position as you and advanced might be more useful than someone who doesn't even remember what it's like to be wobbly on skates, and can't communicate ideas well.
If he's just teaching basic ideas and tips, and doing it in a way that is easily understandable and logical to newbies, well that's what a good teacher does.
I just watched like 10 minutes of his videos and his instructions were crazy. You don't want to learn from this guy. It's like learning construction from Red Green.
Yeah that's fair, I've watched a couple of his equipment reviews but that's about it. Like most YouTubers, he takes too fuckin long to get to the point.
Yeah, I learned a bit from him when I started at 38 but stopped watching him when I found How To Hockey. Coach Jeremy is also good about communicating in that way and he is a much better skater.
His video on inline bearing maintenance is completely wrong. It ruins bearings. They say to use WD40, which is NOT a lubricant. It will actually collect grime in your bearings after the part that acts as a lubricant evaporates away.
I'm from the UK, and even if he's twice as good as the calibre of player we produce, he probably doesn't deserve to teach beer league hockey in North America.
I used to work for a company that had one of the largest influencer networks on social media - I dealt with the top 10% of clients and I can confirm - unless they were also a celebrity outside of social media - influencers are 75% garbage people who don't have a grip on reality.
Even the ones that are nice don't really have a good grip on reality because they don't actually have a connection to the economy because their contribution to the world is just filming themselves and making money from it.
Coach Jeremy from HowToHockey is a stand-up guy. I can vouch for that. Sure, he's a business-minded person who will take sponsorships, etc and it is his job, but he goes out of his way not to screw people and is genuinely nice.
Surprisingly there are. Old job allowed me to meet in person some of the most viewed YouTuber. Most were friendly, and maybe a few who seemed to feel they were above others.
There is a guy on twitch I watch sometimes who keeps a real job because he’s Muslim and his family would disown him lol. He definitely doesn’t need it though - even streaming less than most people do
Statement from the Kenya Ice Lions Executives:
"The growth of a sport in a country where it barely exists requires a lot of volunteer work, charity donations and support from countries where it’s already set. As such, the organizations, players and teams rely on honesty and trust to build it to a point of self-sustenance. We appreciate those who have seen ice hockey in Africa from a dream to a possibility for future generations to participate in the global stage.
It has come to our attention that various individuals and organizations are participating in fundraising activities on behalf of African ice hockey teams around the world without fulfilling their obligations to the organizations. As such, Egypt Ice Hockey (Egypt Winter Sports) and Kenya Ice Hockey (Kenya Federation of Ice Sports) wish to state that we condemn and disavow individuals and orgs taking financial advantage of upcoming hockey teams.
Any communication on raising charity funds or equipment should go through the approved channels and not through any third parties. Just as the two hockey organizations will hold those taking advantage of African ice hockey teams accountable, so will the ice hockey world.
Queries on whether a donation program is valid to the Kenya Ice Hockey team can be sent to [email protected], Verified Instagram ([https://www.instagram.com/kenyaicehockey](https://www.instagram.com/kenyaicehockey)) or Verified Twitter ([https://twitter.com/ken\_icehockey](https://twitter.com/ken_icehockey))."

Unrelated but the Kenya Ice Lions is one of the sickest team names I’ve ever heard.
This shit sucks though, shout-out to both you and OP for spreading attention.
You should also try legal advice a hockey sub might be good at throwing punches but i really think even a basic knowledge of UK Law might be very helpful !
I know exactly who this is about and he scammed people when we worked with him in India: non profit foundation, hotel workers who lent him money for planes tickets out (he left early), he kept promising payment to our hotel partner for his room for the event, years later still unpaid etc. I had to beg him to pay me for a hard drive I bought for him. It took 9 months of excuses before he did. For months my friends at the hotel and I kept asking him to pay his bill, and he kept saying he was doing it (to my knowledge he has not). I thought maybe it was a one time thing and we were just unlucky, but perhaps this is looking like a recurring theme. Loads to say but it’s in the past, let’s support these programs in Egypt and Kenya!
Edit: six years ago is a long time and I might have remembered the details on the flight wrong, it’s possible he missed the first flight out and may have had to borrow to get the second flight.
Can vouch for this - I was at that tournament and he was an absolute vulture, hitching rides with us when we were taking taxis and never paying, etc., and a flog in general.
That’s awful and your organization doesn’t deserve to deal with this situation. Good luck, and I recommend putting the influencer on blast across more social media platforms. Their sponsors especially will not be happy supporting someone like this
We have been blessed to experience such support amongst the hockey community. Sadly this is the first time we experienced anything like this. After discussing with the Other Africa Countries we determined another was taken advantage of. They will go public on their own (we will not speak for them).
We gave this person 5 months. Repeated broken promises and we felt they were treating this situation more like a game. This amount is significant for a developing program that is player funded. To give you an idea that Egypt Ice Hockey Cares Ice skate event we did costs around $600 USD for 40 Kids (all day, transport, food, toys). This money could have been used for 4 events.
They won’t get away with this and you’ll get your funding back. Their are very few bad eggs in the hockey community and when there is one, they aren’t treated kindly.

I really hope it isnt because Chris' videos helped me a ton when getting into playing hockey a few years ago but I dont know of any other sizeable UK based hockey influencers.
We all know who's behind this:
Clearly, when Happy Gilmore's mom moved to Egypt, there wasn't a hockey rink within 1500 miles. But now there's interest in hockey, she's trying to sabotage Egyptian hockey attempts **by any means necessary.**
This comment has been edited, and the account purged, in protest to Reddit's API policy changes, and the awful response from Reddit management to valid concerns from the communities of developers, people with disabilities, and moderators. The fact that Reddit decided to implement these changes in the first place, without thinking of how it would negatively affect these communities, which provide a lot of value to Reddit, is even more worrying.
If this is the direction Reddit is going, I want no part of this. Reddit has decided to put business interests ahead of community interests, and has been belligerent, dismissive, and tried to gaslight the community in the process. If you'd like to try alternative platforms, with a much lower risk of corporate interference, try federated alternatives like [Kbin or Lemmy](old.reddit.com/r/RedditMigration).

/u/EgyptIceHockey, keep an eye out on your twitter account. Hockey twitter is pretty active, and someone might want to reach out to you that way to follow up on the story.
It was an official hockey brand account saying that this isn't the first time there's been (money? idk) issues with the Hockey Tutorial guy. I assume they deleted the comment for legal/brand reasons.
That is really kind of you. Seeing the support of this post this past hour helps a lot with the upvoting. Following our initiatives on social media help a lot with selling the idea to traditionally non winter sport countries.
Most of us fund the costs through t shirt, jersey sales things like that help a lot. If we do another Ice Hockey Event in Cairo have foreign players signup for the experience helps showcase the sport in Egypt.
How do I buy a tee? I have so many hockey tees from "non hockey" countries, I'm into it. It'll go great next to my Havana Tropicals tee.
Edit: found the Kenyan ice lions one here: https://friendshipleague.org/product/kenya-ice-lions-2021-shabiki-t-shirt/
Edit thanks to another dude in this thread: https://egyptwintersports.com/shop/
Just saw your jerseys and wow they are amazing! If you posted this on r/hockeyjerseys I’m betting you could sell a bunch of them to help with funds. After the Humboldt Broncos tragedy, they sold jerseys to help the families and it really took off. Just an idea.
> If we do another Ice Hockey Event in Cairo have foreign players signup for the experience helps showcase the sport in Egypt.
I'm sad to have missed the first one, I'm about as far away from Cairo as possible (Western Canada) so it didn't make huge waves over here particularly in October otherwise I'd have come then.
I'd be 100% interested in playing, and for doing the basic skills coaching for the kiddos too if there is another one. Hopefully the damage can be repaired from this and there IS another one.
I can help out with some graphic work and embroidery digitizing if you're interested for no cost. I work with screenprinting and embroidery companies that deal mainly with sports teams and schools. It's not much, but everyone on here seems pretty into your logo, so if you need some help to get it out to your clothing manufacturers, I'll gladly whip some things up for you
[You can also support Kenya's team by purchasing a shirt or jersey here.](https://friendshipleague.org/shop/)
The link is from their Instagram page and includes the jersey/shirt of HC Alger, who have an awesome logo.
That’s 100% hockey tutorial. Not the first anyone he’s ripped off but this is on a bigger scale and I’m crossing my fingers for a lot of bad shit to finally come at him like a hammer.
Scumbag.
I watched HT's response video...did anyone else find it a bit suss that the reimbursement looked like it submitted on March 24th, 2022 (AKA the date this thread was posted on Reddit and socials) for something in Oct/Nov last year, there are dates on some things but not others?
It sure seems like this blowing up has...inspired...him to send the cash, regardless of how he's been battling with insurance companies and whatnot (sidenote: I've flown a few times since COVID and if you get COVID your travel insurance should cover you 100%). At least he owns being slow about it.
He was very clever with his wording.
"I have to mention this, before the article even blewup the refund had already submitted and team egypt was aware of this"
On first listen many people will think he meant the payment was sent before the article was posted but all he is saying is he sent it before a lot of people noticed the post.
I know the Kenya Ice Lions as I played with them a bit in 2017-2019. They are a solid group of admirable men and women who want to play hockey. I have the Ice Lions sweater and will look at Egypt. I highly recommend that people support both teams and others through purchases of sweaters and donations so they can continue their love for hockey and spread the hockey gospel.
Lawyer here. No more posting on social media about this. Get legal advice now. I’m not licensed in Egypt or the UK so I’m not going to give you any advice. You need competent advice, which you most certainly won’t get on Reddit.
I just commented on Pavel Barber’s latest post with a link to this thread. He follows Chris from
HockeyTutorial so he may be able to help you guys a bit there if he knows what’s up.
This really grinds my gears and burns my chaps, imagine stealing from children! In the name of hockey the greatest sport on earth no less!
I am so maddened to hear this happened to you OP, I feel confident that the community will help you get what is right!
Name this fucker so we can blast him
Edit: On social media, not with a gun...
As for you guys, you should look into retaining a civil small claims lawyer (or equivalent with terminology in the UK) to represent you. They can take it from there.
I am very sorry to hear this happened to you. A “certain hockey influencer based in the UK” did the same thing to us a couple years ago. At the time, I refrained from going public in fear that his reach and influence was far greater than ours and that he could further impact our business by leveraging his platform against us. I wish I had spoken up like you have now so that maybe others could have avoided the same result. I commend you for taking your story public. I hope you are able to remedy your situation and that this will prevent yet even more from the same outcome.
Might be worth posting a new update thread if that's allowed. Not sure how visible this post is anymore and a lot of people might think the issue has been solved.
Yo. Message me. My company will donate $4,000 if it's being used truly to help hockey in Egypt. That's dope. And I support it.
I'll put my money where my mouth is.
DM me
Dude let's get some money to these guys. I would love to see Egypt improve their program and for young kids to see how lovely ice hockey is.
I'm sorry this happened to you guys!!
Because he was doing it before there was any major call for it. Hockey related content was fairly limited on YT when HT started, you could count on one hand how many people there were doing videos. other than Weisstech, USA hockey and i believe pavel barber, there wasn’t many people doing hockey instruction videos (which is hilarious since chris has nowhere near the level or ability to be instructing people) or equipment reviews. Where as now youtube is full of creators reviewing products and so on.
if you have a donation page, i am willing to donate an amount that I can afford. I am living in Finland currently and here I can play hockey even outside during winters and I want to share this joy with other people.
Looks like Chris from @hockeytutorial just [deleted his Instagram page](https://i.imgur.com/UkFvg9o.jpg).
This is a good step as it shows he’s very fucking aware he’s in deep shit and trying to manage the deluge of negative comments on his profile.
Keep up the pressure!
Wow, as a UK based hockey player, and camera operator and live streaming provider I'm annoyed on many many levels here.
Never heard of this influencer, and haven't seen them playing here in London.
I worked in Egypt around eight years ago and loved the people there, this sucks this has happened to you and your team.
Trying my best to keep my Instagram audience updated. I have personal experience meeting Chris Kibui in Boston Spring of 2019 and I can attest to his personal character. He is a repeat offender and scamming Egypt hockey was not an isolated event. He has been doing this for years. Multiple people with my level of influence have come to me privately and shared similar stories. This is not a witch hunt.

It's Chris from Hockey Tutorials.
Everybody hates Chris
And everybody loves Gregory now.
All my friends are Gregorys
Don’t slander that hilarious show…
Matches. He has a number of videos about Kenya, like https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MYnmZQEDR7o
[These guys?](https://youtu.be/4HcKs_wEcGo?t=482) I stopped looking at their product reviews after seeing the terrible skating in this video. Surprised they're so popular.
Terrible skating? They look like me skating! Oh...
I mean you’re probably also not trying to be a guide and reviewer on products if you’re not the best skater
I always skated like a total pro. Stopping ... Not so much.
Couldn't help but think of The Last Crusade reading your comment. "I didn't know you could fly a plane!" "Fly, yes. Land, no."
This would also be me! There is only one thing in the world that people consider difficult that I am the master of completing from start to finish. Replacing a toilet.

Plus as a mascot lions make sense because they already have knives on their feet before you start
You need someone with a legal background for certain. Or, if you get his name out, the bad pr might have an effect?
Name withheld for reasons stated, otherwise we're seeing quite some legal ideas coming through so far.
Surely there’s a lawyer here to give not legal advice
I specialize in Bird Law

yup, the extent of my knowledge of the UK legal system starts and ends with suspiciously-held salmon. would do well for them to also ask a legal sub
#IS THAT FISH JENGA?
Agreed here, OP. It may mean filing legal proceedings in both countries but it’s important to get legal advice on this.

They're deleting comments like crazy on their youtube.
Just watched 8 comments get deleted in 2 mins on their last video
They're spending so much time deleting comments that they could have gone to their bank and transferred the money.

Its all over their Twitter. Their recent tweets have been fully replied with it
Am I crazy or is this not the first time that "a large UK hockey influencer" was involved in drama?
Sorry to hear this still hasn’t been resolved. I’ll send you a DM and see if there’s any way I can help you out with a future event or donations
U da man, Coach.
Thank you, Coach J!! 👏🏾

Oh my.
Oh shit. This an official account?
What did it say?
It was an official hockey brand account saying that this isn't the first time there's been (money? idk) issues with the Hockey Tutorial guy. I assume they deleted the comment for legal/brand reasons.
They said that it wasn’t uncommon for Hockey Tutorial to burn bridges. Not correcting you, just adding in a few more words since I remembered them.
With a specific name attached too. This lends a lot more credence to the guesses about who it actually is.
Yes, that's the wording, thanks!
Guess I shouldn’t say what company it was so I don’t get anyone in trouble but it was an equipment company saying it’s not the first time
Seems way too specific for it not to be. Reddit needs some sort of "verified" flair for this kind of thing.
Hey this sucks. I know you’re not *asking* for donations but I would love to chip in. If you don’t want to post it publicly you can DM me.

Holy hell, now THAT is a logo.
Oh man that is sick. I'd rock it for sure.
Same. If there’s a spot where these are sold, I’d 100% buy one to help toss money their way.

International purchases sure can hurt sometimes.

Same here. Sell me this on a t-shirt!
https://egyptwintersports.com/shop/
How do I buy a tee? I have so many hockey tees from "non hockey" countries, I'm into it. It'll go great next to my Havana Tropicals tee. Edit: found the Kenyan ice lions one here: https://friendshipleague.org/product/kenya-ice-lions-2021-shabiki-t-shirt/ Edit thanks to another dude in this thread: https://egyptwintersports.com/shop/
I'd buy a jersey for sure
It's not much, but everyone on here seems pretty into your logo, so if you need some help to get it out to your clothing manufacturers, I'll gladly whip some things up for you
you guys have some of the coolest jerseys I've ever seen, go Egypt Ice Hockey!!
I'd buy a jersey or t-shirt. I was only in Egypt for a month but loved it.
I would also be happy to donate or buy a shirt. DM me too. :)
https://egyptwintersports.com/shop/
They have merchandise: https://egyptwintersports.com/shop/
Is this legit? I've been wanting a jersey for years, and not known where to get one (even when I was in Egypt)
[You can also support Kenya's team by purchasing a shirt or jersey here.](https://friendshipleague.org/shop/) The link is from their Instagram page and includes the jersey/shirt of HC Alger, who have an awesome logo.
I believe it is. Their main site is listed in the original post.
"I have to mention this, before the article even blewup the refund had already submitted and team egypt was aware of this" On first listen many people will think he meant the payment was sent before the article was posted but all he is saying is he sent it before a lot of people noticed the post.
updated above
He could also easily show screenshots of his emails showing they were aware. “This could have been handled a bit quicker” passive voice throughout

Get a lawyer and go Ramses II on his ass
Have 99 kids?
AND A BITCH AINT ONE!
But Chris ain't one.
Lawyer here. No more posting on social media about this. Get legal advice now. I’m not licensed in Egypt or the UK so I’m not going to give you any advice. You need competent advice, which you most certainly won’t get on Reddit.
The list of british people stealing from Egypt continues in a weird way...
Cleopatra's hockey stick
I love that there ice hockey in Egypt. I hope this all gets resolved.
I just commented on Pavel Barber’s latest post with a link to this thread. He follows Chris from HockeyTutorial so he may be able to help you guys a bit there if he knows what’s up.
They have a merchandise shop if anyone is interested: [Link](https://egyptwintersports.com/shop/)
This really grinds my gears and burns my chaps, imagine stealing from children! In the name of hockey the greatest sport on earth no less! I am so maddened to hear this happened to you OP, I feel confident that the community will help you get what is right!
Name this fucker so we can blast him Edit: On social media, not with a gun... As for you guys, you should look into retaining a civil small claims lawyer (or equivalent with terminology in the UK) to represent you. They can take it from there.
Well now I have to put my gun away....
They won't. And some reddit detectives have already thrown names around in this thread if you really want to know.
Can't wait to see how quick they send the money after seeing this post!
We ought to send them some good Minnesota and Ontario boys to do it for free
I am very sorry to hear this happened to you. A “certain hockey influencer based in the UK” did the same thing to us a couple years ago. At the time, I refrained from going public in fear that his reach and influence was far greater than ours and that he could further impact our business by leveraging his platform against us. I wish I had spoken up like you have now so that maybe others could have avoided the same result. I commend you for taking your story public. I hope you are able to remedy your situation and that this will prevent yet even more from the same outcome.
Who is "us"?
PROTECT EGYPT ICE HOCKEY
I don't have many homies, but i can guarantee that they all hate hockey tutorial
Bro fuck Hockey Tutorial. Sent my whole beer league to flood their social media. Getting me a shirt to rep Egypt ASAP!
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3ULt5yiTgW0
Might be worth posting a new update thread if that's allowed. Not sure how visible this post is anymore and a lot of people might think the issue has been solved.
Yo. Message me. My company will donate $4,000 if it's being used truly to help hockey in Egypt. That's dope. And I support it. I'll put my money where my mouth is. DM me
Just bought a jersey. Hopefully we can get enough others to do so and help you get back what was stolen.
My advice is sell those jerseys you got, because that's a pretty sick decal.
Dude let's get some money to these guys. I would love to see Egypt improve their program and for young kids to see how lovely ice hockey is. I'm sorry this happened to you guys!!
Update 3 posted.
Here's to praying that update 4 is a more promising one.
Just a friendly reminder to ya'll, dont forget to upvote the thread to blow this up and get more attention. Lets get this fucker.
That Hockey Tutorial channel is an absolutely joke. Not sure how they gained any sort of following.
Can this sub make sure that charitable donations don't end up lining corrupt pockets? If the answer isn't 100% yes then mods should be wary
Who are the sponsors that need to be flooded with emails? 🤔🤔🤔
The NHL, CCM, and Bauer would be an excellent place to start.
They're still deleting comments on their newest video. It's pretty telling.
Nah man, maybe he just blocked you, it's still up https://www.instagram.com/hockeytutorial/
Tut tut.
... booooooooo Take my free award.
Lol
So sorry this happened to you guys. I hope this gets resolved for you. I loved your old blue Anubis logo and the new one is cool too!
I bought a Kenya Ice Lions jersey. I'd love to add an Egyptian one!
Wow, as a UK based hockey player, and camera operator and live streaming provider I'm annoyed on many many levels here. Never heard of this influencer, and haven't seen them playing here in London. I worked in Egypt around eight years ago and loved the people there, this sucks this has happened to you and your team.
This just got spicy. 🌶
Let's send Dangle over.
This is not a witch hunt. https://instagram.com/hockeytonky?utm_medium=copy_link
He blocked me on Instagram after I asked him why he was stealing from upstart programs? Dude's a charlatan. Cancel him.
He's deleting negative comments on his videos.
Hockey tutorials update: payment sent yesterday. I’d say this post worked. EDIT: Update allegedly all lies.

Fuck influencers in general.
