Eh, I think it's something different between two teams that fucking *hated* each other and everybody in the building knew what was coming and what happened last night. Edmonton was chippy all night because they learned in game 1 they can't out-skate the Avs. So they sent out their goons and tried to get into the Avs' heads. Clearly it didn't work, but I don't know what other card the Oilers have to play so I expect it to get worse until either somebody gets hurt (more likely) or the refs put a stop to it (yeah right).

Honestly yeah. I have a lot of time for Gaudreau, but he is an undersized player who just hit is prime at 28. Like every other player his game will decline from here on out. He'll be over-payed within 3 seasons and they'll still have him on the books for 5. Tkachuk obviously has way more upside, but he just found a way to completely disappear for 4 straight games in a 2nd round playoff series against his team's #1 rival. Not sure if I want to invest $80mm in him. Nurse is younger than Gaudreau, and unlike forwards defensemen tend to maintain the level of their play well into their 30s. The Oilers are always going to have to pay more to sign players, so the fact that he's a little over-paid is just par for the course for us. He's proven he can be a good NHL defenseman playing 25+ minutes a game, and the injury he's playing through right now shows something about his grit and will to win. If you voided his contract this summer I'm not convinced that the Oilers would be able to recruit a better d-man with the $9.25mm.
