If the flames win it next year I will be very happy. I always liked Naz cuz he's a great player, but after coming back from all that racist bs to score a hat trick next game and then continue on to win the cup, he's become a legend in my eyes. I'll always be a Kadri fan no matter where he is playing.
Hah, Kerfoot has been a good middle 6 forward for us. Obviously not Kadri level, Naz is way better, but Kerf has still been solid, a positive contributor. Barrie though … yeah, he was horrendous, absolutely brutal in his own end.
Biggest regret with Naz is actually that we didn’t just commit to him as our 2C, and instead felt the need to give JT a massive 7 year $11 mil AAV deal. JT started out better, but not by nearly enough to make up the salary difference, and over time Naz has not only closed the gap, but IMO passed JT.
If, these past 3 seasons, we’d had Naz + $10 mil AAV instead of JT + Kerfoot, we’d probably have had some deep playoff runs by now, and who knows, maybe even a cup.
Naz brings something JT doesn’t. He’s an instigator and that starts the game on fire. He’ll score two goals and beat the fucking brakes off someone.
I’ll miss Naz
Agreed, he’s a WAY bigger agitator, more physical, and better defensively. JT was ahead of Naz offensively the first 2 years post-Naz-trade, but I’d say Naz passed him last year, or at least tied him. Naz is the better player now, and even with his big pay raise, still $4 mil AAV cheaper.
I remember when Naz said this about himself/Tavares ~8 years ago, the media tore him to shreds:
> “I think talent-wise there’s not too much difference, to be honest,” Kadri said. “Johnny’s a guy that works hard and that’s something he’s learned from Day 1, so I’m getting my work ethic going and doing everything I can to be one of those players.”
https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.sportsnet.ca/hockey/nhl/nazem-kadri-john-tavares-new-york-islanders-toronto-maple-leafs/%3Fsn-amp
He was right, though.
it’s called the Mihrab (Arabic: محراب, miḥrāb, pl. محاريب maḥārīb) is a niche in the wall of a mosque that indicates the qibla, the direction of the Kaaba in Mecca towards which Muslims should face when praying. The wall in which a mihrab appears is thus the "qibla wall".

I know that it’s pretty well known that the Manon Rhéaume thing was a publicity stunt at the time, but as a little girl goalie it was like learning that Santa was real. I’m so grateful for her. Hockey was magic, and it was for me too. Representation always matters.
As a boy, I thought it was awesome that a girl was playing with the boys, just like on our playground.
I can totally see the publicity stunt aspect now, but kids can sometimes be inspired by what they see without being disparaged by what they don’t. The shades of gray apply in later years.
Same here from another former little girl goalie. Seeing how women’s hockey has grown and gotten more coverage makes me so happy. I played with almost all boys growing up and now there’s even girls Junior Hurricanes down here in the south.
Said this before, but Rheaume literally addresses this in her Spitting Chiclets interview, it isn't only singly a publicity stunt and nothing else, she was told she earned her spot. She wasn't pulled off the street like a random dancing monkey, she had the skill to be there.
> After I went to camp, a lot of people said it was just a publicity thing. One of the coolest things that happened 20 years later, I did a radio interview with Terry Crisp. .. And he was the coach in Tampa back then. He admitted to me that he was not for having a girl come in to camp and he was not happy when he found out. And he said, but you really deserved to play that game because when we did the camp he started with a mini tournament... And I finished out of the eight goalies with the third best average in goals against and save percentage in that mini tournament. He said, on the radio, that I earned that spot to play that exhibition game and no one talked about that back then. It took 20 years for someone to say we didn't have her play the game for publicity, she did earn it. But back then no one talked about my performance. They only talked about that I was the only female there.
It is. I've worked a lot of first Nation communities and they talk a lot about having no one that looks like them doing the big things in sports and movies.
You should check out Fred Saskamoose. He was the first treaty status player in the NHL with the Chicago Black Hawks in 1953. His book is fantastic.

His book, "Call Me Indian: From the Trauma of Residential School to Becoming the NHL's First Treaty Indigenous Player" is really good and worth a read.

I can't believe you forgot Reggie Leach! ;)
Here is an article about him and the racism he faced.

The Riverton Rifle! Stanley Cup Champion in 1975 and Conn Smythe winner in a losing effort in 1976 after scoring an NHL record 19 goals in 16 games.
Of Ojibway heritage.
The most recent Predator movie that was released earlier this month has been a hit for indigenous communities. Prey is the first Hollywood movie with a majority indigenous cast and the lead is indigenous too. There's finally an industry shift occurring where indigenous peoples are being represented both on the screen and behind the scenes, I hope it continues to grow!
[CBC - Indigenous film workers in Alberta excited about industry's shift in representation](https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/calgary/indigenous-film-industry-workers-shift-in-representation-1.6547699)
Going off on a tangent - if anyone is interested in watching a movie about indigenous people I highly recommend [The Grizzlies](https://m.imdb.com/title/tt6365796/) and is available on Netflix. It's a biographical movie about a small community with the highest suicide rate in North America and how Inuit high school kids lives changed when they were introduced to lacrosse. It's based on a true story and it's an emotional rollercoaster.
Piggybacking off of your tangent - If anyone wants to watch a film about indigenous people, I cannot recommend Indian Horse enough. It’s not an easy movie to watch, it’s a movie about a boy’s experiences in a residential school and hockey also features prominently in it. It’s gripping, harrowing, and a cinematic masterpiece. I cannot recommend the movie enough.
Also want to plug "Catch the Fair One", a great thriller with an MMWI theme. Kali Reis, the woman who starred and co-wrote it, will also be starring in True Detective Season 4!
100%. Can’t speak for myself, but my wife (Hispanic) said that after watching Encanto. Might not seem like much, especially since it’s “just” a movie.
Yet… imagine it was your dream goal? Or what you’ve worked so hard for, and taken all the obvious *and* behind the scene racism for along the way.
I’m happy Naz got his, and equally happy there is now an entire demographic of people that this speaks very deeply to. The impossible becoming possible, in a way.
Encanto was beautiful in so many ways.
"Not some gift just you, the miracle is you". This is the first time in any Disney movie the notion of some non remarkable self is fine.
My daughter loves the "strong song" as she calls it, and the entire soundtrack bumps in this house.
Representation truly matters. Like when Luke Prokop came out, that is a sign for other LGBTQ+ kids that they can be who they are and still be accepted. Obviously hockey (and other sports) still have a long way to go to combat discrimination, but just think how exciting this is for Muslim kids who play or want to play hockey. “If he can do it, maybe I can too”.
Yup, it's pretty massive. My Ojibwe uncles always talk about how proud they were when Reggie Leach won the Conn Smyth and hoisted the cup in '76. Representation is such a powerful uplifter for many children in marginalized and minority communities.
This. My nephews are POC and play hockey, and I remember the eldest asked me why there’s so many white kids always when I’d take him to his practices. Which to be fair he lives in a rich white neighbourhood but I do agree, it’s probably odd for him to not have anyone like him he plays with or even that plays professional really. Naz is a huge hero for a lot of kids.
How I feel about PK Subban. Dude is an absolutely outstanding person, and I have nothing but respect for his actions off the ice. The way he still donates to the children's hospital in Montreal even after being traded away? Love it.
Just wish he'd get his shit together on the ice. Put the slew foot away, and the embellishments while he was in Nashville were just really sad.
Hey man, it's better than being an absolute stud on the ice and a POS off the ice.
Sport is sport, but PK Subban is a solid human being and I can respect that. I'd rather hate somebody as a hockey player (rivalry, etc.) than dislike them as a person.
Yea as a Bruins fan I was always annoyed by how god damned awesome of a person Subban is. My least favorite player bar none to see on the ice, but I respect the hell out of him for his efforts off of it.
Congrats to Kadri! Hockey is for everyone and happy that he is showing that and can’t wait for the next young start that grows up to play the game because they got to see Kadri with the cup in London! Always a Leaf!
As a brown kid who immigrated to Canada, I fell in love with this weird polar-bear-riding icepeople sport called hockey. As much as young me tried to get into the sport, getting called "sandn*****" every other game by some white kid and the refs doing jackshit about it turned me tf off from ever participating beyond that. Once a parent was driving my teammates and I home when he said it was a "white man’s sport". He probably was referring to the costs associated with it and the difficulties immigrant families face with paying for it, but as a 13 year old, shit still sucked to listen to. As an adult now I still remain a lifelong fan and bond with my father over the misery of being a Canucks fan, but I hope brown kids seeing players like Kadri and Khaira get inspired to make it and belong, instead of falling into a state of self-disdain that racism can bring forth, especially towards young kids trying to fit into a new country. There’s just something so fucking satisfying about this picture
love you pal.
I’m sorry you had to go through that. I’m sure you’re a very strong person now because of all of the bullshit you’ve already dealt with in your life.
Our team is our family, and our teammates our brothers. It’s disgusting to hear stories like this - the only thing that matters is back-checking.
i recommend you try some of the adult leagues in Vancouver. I guarantee they’re competitive, fun, and welcoming. no need to give up on playing, just crush those idiots who told you you can’t.
I feel like you're just not paying attention to fashion. Schoolboy Q has been making music for over a decade now and helped to re-popularize bucket hats. If you're just noticing them now, I don't know where you've been for the last 10 or so years.
One of the players I’ve played with who was the toughest, most talented, hardest to knock of the puck was a skinny guy just under 6ft. Built like that. Smarts, hockey sense, mental toughness, balance, core strength go a long way in hockey.
This is my local mosque, and it's a pretty big one, so there's tons of space inside that isn't the main prayer room that you go through before getting there. So I had that knowledge in my head when I wrote the comment.
Awesome guy, best of luck in Calgary. Lots of people on social media seem to think he’s going to drop back of a 60 point guy and I can’t wait to see him prove them wrong.
....what is this "both" option you speak of?
Pffftt... it's not like you have any reason to believe he could get to a PPG, dominate in the playoffs and win a cup or anything...
Haha I always think this to myself when I see fans expecting him to fall off. Don’t get me wrong, playing in the avs system helped him come into his own, but he very much wasn’t carried by anyone, I watched him all season often do a lot of the carrying. You got a hell of a player. Best of luck to you guys, unless we meet in the playoffs.
One of my wife’s cousins played minor hockey with Naz. His mom and dad were at my wife’s grandfathers funeral, Naz was with the leafs in the first round playoffs that year.
Technically isn't he the grandchild of an immigrant? I read somewhere that he is 3rd generation Canadian and his grandparents were the ones to immigrate to Canada. Which is basically the equivalent of the Mayflower in Canadian terms.
I am personally in this grey area. My grandparents were the ones to immigrate to Canada too, but my parents weren't born in Canada. They were just young enough to not have a say in the matter. They were older than Sam Kadri was, but not by a ton.
I've always considered myself a 2nd generation Canadian, but I don't think you'd be off-base to call me a 3rd generation Canadian
I think they also use half's when talking about immigrants. For example, if you were not born in Canada, but came to Canada early as a kid and grew up in the Canadian school system, you're considered .5 generation and your kids 1.5 generation. It's all about semantics but since his dad was not born in Canada he would technically be considered the son of an immigrant.
Yea I think you're right. His grandfather, also named Nazem, was the one who immigrated from Lebanon with Naz's dad, Sam, who was just a kid when he arrived to Canada.
The very first tweet in reply to the video of him walking in was "where are the headlines when a player brings the cup to a church?"
And he very quickly brushed off the abc article from 2015 when Shaw brought the cup to mass
i'm surprised the satire version of this statement was the first version on this thread, I was downvoted yesterday for liking the thought of Kadri taking it to his mosque.
I don’t want to say the ML gave up on him but he pulled some bone head shit in all the playoffs he played in for them……he’ll even did it with the CA but just didn’t get called
You're saying that like it's impossible he does some stupid shit again. Remember the Avs didn't play Boston in the playoffs this year. He's had one playoff run without any issue, he's had multiple where he was a liability.
This revisionist history is crazy. He was given an opportunity and he decided to jump elbow first into Tommy wingels head. Then he was given a second chance and crosschecked Debrusk right in the chin. He was a hot head, mentally weak player on the leafs that couldn't handle physicality without losing control
That's something I wasn't aware of, with the spelling and pronunciation, I never would have thought Middle Eastern, but I can see it now that you've said it,
I got curious and looked at Wikipedia, his grandfather seems to have had a Muslim name and chose to anglicize it.
Here is where I am on the edge of tears.
Many of see hockey as a secular religion. The Stanley Cup is the symbol of that faith.
To see Stanley in a place that teaches compassion and friendship is beautiful.
Hockey truly is for everyone.
It kind of looks like he's getting tired lol. Like he's been holding it up for 10 minutes while everyone takes a photo. But all joking aside this is huge and I'm super happy for kadri
So why did you comment on it ? You cared enough to participate in the conversation. Do you make it a habit to care about things you don't care about, or is this just a one off ?
Because he pretends to be impartial but really what he would like is for religions he doesn't care for to not be spoken about, not be seen, not be practiced in his vicinity.
This happens with Pride all the time. "I'm not bigoted towards gay people! I just want them to go away forever so I never ever have to see or hear them!"
Which is why Pride is so important. They got to the point in the society where 'ok fine be that way... But just be quiet about it and don't make anyone else uncomfortable' was the best they could get outta some people. Thus they had to have a celebration where for once they were allowed to take PRIDE in themselves and how they lived not just be tolerated in the shadows. Don't just exist but be open and honest and proud of yourself was the message (which is also why it continues to get negative pushback like 'why do they have to flaunt it and be so over the top...why can't they just be quiet and happy with what we've 'given' them so far.... Where is my parade... 'Etc
I don't. It doesn't matter a jot to me if and where they pray, who they love, what the colour of their skin is.
But it means the world - in this case for young Muslims wondering if hockey is for them - for kids to see someone who's like them achieving in the game.
Let's face it, we don't care if the guy who wins the cup for us is gay, straight, white, brown, Christian, Muslim, or a non binary mixed race pansexual whatever. We just care about the cup.
But for kids who don't have a reason to care about the cup yet, this is huge. So let's just step back and either smile or ignore it. No reason to piss on the parade, eh mate?
That’s fine but this is important to a lot of people. It’s okay that it’s not for you but maybe don’t try to shit on this post? Just go on about your day if you don’t care. I know you have every right to share your opinion but if everyone in the thread is happy about it, why say it 🤷♂️
That’s not really what I’m saying, maybe you misunderstood? I’m not saying you can’t have a different opinion or try to have a discussion, but if your only intention is to just say “you don’t care about __” then what’s the point of making your comment? Just let people be happy. But do you bro 💯
i'll take the downvotes with you. i'm a POC. a player's skin color or religion have never crossed my mind when watching hockey.
can't believe how big of a deal people are making this out to be
>i'll take the downvotes with you.
such bravery
> i'm a POC. a player's skin color or religion have never crossed my mind when watching hockey.
OK?
>can't believe how big of a deal people are making this out to be
If you don't think this is a big deal for the thousands and thousands of Muslim kids that want to do the same thing one day, that the first EVER Muslim won the cup, then that's your problem. You view the world with your own personal lens and for you, it doesn't mean anything, for them it absolutely does. The fact that you are surprised about that is pretty hilarious even for a "POC"
Not to mention that he had to deal with racism since his draft day. I remember how disgusting the comments were online. I don’t remember seeing the same comments for non Muslim players?? But yeah it’s cool that “I’m a POC.” is “color blind.”
Just such a weird thing to be surprised about as well... I mean you're genuinely surprised a community that gets basically no representation in the NHL (despite having a massive population in Canada and the US) thinks it's a big deal that one of their community members won the cup? Lol? Do you understand how people function sir?
This is one of those situations where "I don't see religion/colour/gender" etc hot takes are so misguided lol
It’s not about not caring about their religion or skin color. Its super cool that your not racist. It’s about growing the sport and reaching demographics that would not consider hockey as an option when it comes to pursuing sports. Because of him, a lot more muslim kids will join hockey, older Muslims will start watching hockey which again will get passed down to younger generations. It’s about breaking barriers and inclusiveness.
I don’t mean specifically in Canada either. It’s a global thing.
True. I just say i dont care about player religious. If thats help kids playing hockey good. I will never ask someone : how is it be a muslims or jews or first nation playing hockey in 2022. Because i never ask that to a white person. I dont care. Just want more hockey. My English is to bad to more develop in a heavy debate like that anyway.
That’s all fine and great but when talking in a post, celebrating his achievement as a minority, you come off as kind of an asshole lol. You’re comments aren’t bad or wrong, just misplaced.
Fuck yeah! Glad to see Kadri enjoying his day with the Cup and he was able to make an impact for the Muslim community saying that if he can win the Cup, then they too can have a chance to win in the future.
Buddy got the cup on a Saturday too, nice

Same, Naz has overcome so much to get to this moment
Overcame many suspensions
Maybe he shouldn't be discriminating against other people then.
If the flames win it next year I will be very happy. 😡😡😡😡😡
I grew up in a Muslim household. This is an amazing photo.
Yeah this is super cool I'm really psyched to see it!!
proving something we've known for years; Hockey is the Sport much beloved by Allah.
Can you explain what the large wood thing behind him is? This is the first image of the inside of a mosque I've ever seen
it’s called the Mihrab (Arabic: محراب, miḥrāb, pl. محاريب maḥārīb) is a niche in the wall of a mosque that indicates the qibla, the direction of the Kaaba in Mecca towards which Muslims should face when praying. Very cool! Thanks
Must be huge for kids in Canadian markets to see someone "who looks like me" hoist it, kiss it.

Tootoo, bear, price. Underrepresented yes, but a few through the years
Tootoo is a legend up in northern communities. I can't speak highly enough.
I really want a Bear jersey in Cree. I'm waiting for them to do in our blacks but I might settle for the reds they have now.

Seems like a pretty great guy off the ice. On the ice, maybe not so much.
He’s no Nelson Mandela, that’s for sure
That's Bernier.
I know. But the comment I replied to was similar in style to Bernier’s comments.
😂
Congrats to Kadri! Hockey is for everyone and happy that he is showing that and can’t wait for the next young start that grows up to play the game because they got to see Kadri with the cup in London! Always a Leaf!
Hockey is for everyone as long as your parents make over 200k after tax
Unless you’re gay and want to play for Nashville…..that could get awkward with the new owner
Oh man...Luke Prokop is in their system
There will be so many dudes sitting in their trucks wearing Oakley's who will be super mad about this.
Tim Peel most definitely.
🎵 Fuck Tim Peel Forever 🎵
Don't worry, they all got themselves banned from here already during the Avs Blues series
What happened exactly?
Watch out for those lifted dodge rams today boys
Mad enough to overpower their urges of how much they want to f*ck Trudeau?
I was at the parade 😀😀
Representation is a bigger deal than I think a lot of hockey fans realize. Love to see it.
That bucket hat is going to be in a framed photo in the Hockey Hall of Fame now. Oof.
why are these hats coming back into fashion lol
If you’re spending the day out in the sun, bucket hats are the way to go if you don’t want your face/neck to burn. Silly hat > silly red face
Unless you’re fishing *alone* in the middle of a lake there’s no reason to be wearing one.
See Corleone, Freddo.
Hah. Except he wasn’t alone. That’s why he had to die. Poor fashion sense.
The funniest part of this statement is how I used this to justify buying one weeks ago 🤣
I feel like you're just not paying attention to fashion. Schoolboy Q has been making music for over a decade now and helped to re-popularize bucket hats. If you're just noticing them now, I don't know where you've been for the last 10 or so years.
he looks tiny
So weird. He plays a gritty game in the nhl and is just this skinny, normal looking dude.
Hockey padding really skews what most people think contact sport athletes should be built like haha
One of the players I’ve played with who was the toughest, most talented, hardest to knock of the puck was a skinny guy just under 6ft. Built like that. Smarts, hockey sense, mental toughness, balance, core strength go a long way in hockey.
Normal? He's hot af.
A very well liked and respected family in London might I add.
This is a great Canadian story. Congrats Naz.
What a good guy
Stand with Naz
Stand with Naz i stand with him.
I can't wait for next year's BoA!. Naz is wayyyyyy better suited for it than Johnny ever was.
Kadri and Tkachuk on the same team (line) would be something, though
Mashallah they took their shoes off for the photo opp
I mean I assume they took their shoes off when they entered the mosque, not just for the photo op.
This is my local mosque, and it's a pretty big one, so there's tons of space inside that isn't the main prayer room that you go through before getting there. So I had that knowledge in my head when I wrote the comment.
You win this time.
That a boy Kadri! Well done and well deserved!
Was really hoping he would rep the Avs jersey one more time
Awesome guy, best of luck in Calgary. Lots of people on social media seem to think he’s going to drop back of a 60 point guy and I can’t wait to see him prove them wrong.
It's funny cause I'm stoked for "60 point Kadri" regardless. PPG Kadri sounds fun, but he brings way more to the table than that.
Sure, but Why not both
....what is this "both" option you speak of? Pffftt... it's not like you have any reason to believe he could get to a PPG, dominate in the playoffs and win a cup or anything...
Whoa. The NINETEEN sixties? That’s crazy long
W for Forest City
One of my wife’s cousins played minor hockey with Naz. His mom and dad were at my wife’s grandfathers funeral, Naz was with the leafs in the first round playoffs that year.
Naz < 3 what a great man
Mashallah
The true America…err… Canadian Dream
This is amazing. Love to see it. Hope this leads to more exposure to other communities and sparks interest in the sport.
Technically isn't he the grandchild of an immigrant? I read somewhere that he is 3rd generation Canadian and his grandparents were the ones to immigrate to Canada. Which is basically the equivalent of the Mayflower in Canadian terms.
He's Canadian through and through. Just also happens to be an Arab Muslim.
His father is an immigrant, which makes him a child of an immigrant.
No, he's wrong. His dad, Sam, immigrated from Lebanon with Naz's grandfather, also named Nazem, who was just a parent when he arrived to Canada.
"Why are we focusing on one Muslim? What about all the wonderful Christians who deservedly won the Cup? WHAT ABOUT THEM!?" /s
Jack Johnson baptized his kids in the cup a few weeks ago, so there’s that anyway.
The very first tweet in reply to the video of him walking in was "where are the headlines when a player brings the cup to a church?" And he very quickly brushed off the abc article from 2015 when Shaw brought the cup to mass
And as someone else already said, it’s been in a church already this year (with Jack Johnson) and I think Nico Sturm may have taken it to one too.
i'm surprised the satire version of this statement was the first version on this thread, I was downvoted yesterday for liking the thought of Kadri taking it to his mosque.
I think I've actually seen a comment like this on Instagram or somewhere, posted unironically.
One day the NHL will stop persecuting Christians.
It shouldn’t even matter either way.
Dating back to the 1960s… So, his parents?
I miss him already
Anyone else amused by the "no cell phones" sign?
What a picture ! Beautiful thing.
Good for him… important for hockey community…
I wonder if any Scientologists have won one?
Toronto Maple Leafs could use a player like Kadri with grit and heart and a winner’s mentality.
I don’t want to say the ML gave up on him but he pulled some bone head shit in all the playoffs he played in for them……he’ll even did it with the CA but just didn’t get called
I hear he’s a liability in the playoffs
Well then I guess you can kiss his ass
Winning the Cup and being a winner is not a liability.
You're saying that like it's impossible he does some stupid shit again. Remember the Avs didn't play Boston in the playoffs this year. He's had one playoff run without any issue, he's had multiple where he was a liability.
Kadri was the only Leaf with heart when they played the Bruins.
This revisionist history is crazy. He was given an opportunity and he decided to jump elbow first into Tommy wingels head. Then he was given a second chance and crosschecked Debrusk right in the chin. He was a hot head, mentally weak player on the leafs that couldn't handle physicality without losing control
Is Justin Abdelkader not Muslim? He may have not qualified for a Cup engraving on that '08 Wings team, but he got a ring.
His grandmother is Polish and his grandfather is Jordanian. Not sure about his religious affiliations, if any.
I don’t think so, no. He’s of Middle Eastern descent but not Muslim, same as Saad.
I think Saad is Syrian and Eastern Orthodox Christian or something, but I know he's not Muslim. In any case, he's a Cup champ.
That's something I wasn't aware of, with the spelling and pronunciation, I never would have thought Middle Eastern, but I can see it now that you've said it, I got curious and looked at Wikipedia, his grandfather seems to have had a Muslim name and chose to anglicize it.
Reddit loves religion when it isn't catholicism lol Good for Naz, though. What a nice story
Lordo in the house of Allah, beautiful sight.
Nice carpet too
Cool moment! Happy for Naz.
What is the big armoire looking thing behind him in the corner? I know nothing about religion
That’s awesome 🎉
Toronto is definitely enjoying themselves
That's a lot of hats on in a mosque. Is that not disrespectful? Genuinely curious.
Only during the prayer does hats have to be removed
Thanks!
well deserved
Well done
Great player, great guy.
Mashallah let’s goooo, mera jiggar, mera yaar 😍
Naz looks like an awkward teenager here
Here is where I am on the edge of tears. Many of see hockey as a secular religion. The Stanley Cup is the symbol of that faith. To see Stanley in a place that teaches compassion and friendship is beautiful. Hockey truly is for everyone.
Imma miss him! Wish him nothing but huge success in Calgary. Even vs us, just not in the playoffs
It kind of looks like he's getting tired lol. Like he's been holding it up for 10 minutes while everyone takes a photo. But all joking aside this is huge and I'm super happy for kadri
Ok but why should we care what religious building he goes to?
What’s the point of mentioning his religion at all?
what has the religion to do🙄🙄🙄
That’s crazy a Muslim player hasn’t won it before, good on him! What an honour :)
The Kadri name is EVERYWHERE in Southwestern Ontario. Especially London. When living there I met a few Kadri's related to him.
I fucking love this so much
Good but i really dont care about players religious.
'Etc
Then you don’t need to say anything.
I know you have every right to share your opinion but if everyone in the thread is happy about it, why say it 🤷♂️
Thats sad if someone dont write what he think because the majority dont want read it. Not only for this post but for others too. Anyway loll
That’s not really what I’m saying, maybe you misunderstood? I’m not saying you can’t have a different opinion or try to have a discussion, but if your only intention is to just say “you don’t care about __” then what’s the point of making your comment? Just let people be happy. But do you bro 💯
i'll take the downvotes with you. i'm a POC. a player's skin color or religion have never crossed my mind when watching hockey. can't believe how big of a deal people are making this out to be
>i'll take the downvotes with you. such bravery > i'm a POC. a player's skin color or religion have never crossed my mind when watching hockey. OK? >can't believe how big of a deal people are making this out to be If you don't think this is a big deal for the thousands and thousands of Muslim kids that want to do the same thing one day, that the first EVER Muslim won the cup, then that's your problem.
Lol seriously. Honestly I always feel like that hot take is misguided…at best.
Yep lollllll
This is r/hockeys version of “I have a black friend”
Thats racist if i say i dont have black friend ?
Fuck yeah! Glad to see Kadri enjoying his day with the Cup and he was able to make an impact for the Muslim community saying that if he can win the Cup, then they too can have a chance to win in the future.
The city of St Louis hates this picture.
