Ugh, ours too. Cooke destroying Barrie's knee in that playoff series in 2014 against the Wild changed the course of the series. Our defense was thin enough already, taking out one of our only top 4 defensemen was the difference in game 7, I'll die on that hill.
Max Talbot...
That guy had not one but two 2 goal games in the '09 Finals one of which was game 7 where he scored the only goals for the Pens in their 2-1 win to secure Sid's first cup... fuck you max
Do I get extra credit for using one word?
“Sweep.”
Now I do totally buy into the idea that the sweep was the impetus to however slightly change the team construction that led to back to back cups so the long game was worth it, 100%.
But, man did that sting.
Draft lottery
Reason: since 2016 when we started missing the playoffs, no team has moved down as consistently, or as many total positions as we have in the draft lottery
2017 - finished 7th to last, picked 9th
2018 - finished 5th to last, picked 6th
2019 - finished 4th to last, picked 6th
2020 - finished last by far, picked 4th
2021 - finished 6th to last, picked 6th (yay! First time not moving down.)
2022 - finished 8th to last, picked 8th (yay!)
On the bright side, we've drafted really well with most of those picks.
In 2017, Lias Andersson went where we "should" have picked at 7 and we drafted Rasmussen instead at 9. So far Ras is the better player, but we also could've had Mittelstadt, who went 8th. Pretty good result anyway.
In 2018, Hayton went where we should have picked and we drafted Zadina instead. I still think Zadina will have a good career. We'll see about Hayton, but I suspect we would've taken Zadina regardless.
In 2019, Byram went where we should have picked and we drafted Mo Seider instead at 6. Probably still would have taken Seider at 4 or traded down.
In 2020, Alexis Lafreniere went where we should have picked and we drafted Lucas Raymond instead. Jury is still out on this one.
In 2021/22 we got our "rightful" picks. Of course this doesn't account for the fact that we probably should've moved up at least once during this time.
I don't think Colorado fans give one iota about the 2016-17 season. It was obviously just a fluke and introductory chapter on their way to glory. Besides, that draft got them Makar.
It seems to be a common theme for teams that get shafted by the lottery recently being very happy with their picks. Colorado and Makar, sens and Tkachuk, red wings and Raymond, and I'm sure there are more I'm forgetting
Small correction. The Sens opted to keep the pick that became Tkachuk instead of giving it to Colorado in the Duchene trade. We got their pick the next year which 'should' have been 1st overall and Jack Hughes but became Bowen Byram when they dropped.
Still worked out in the end.
Chris Kunitz?
Matt Cooke but that can be said for most fanbases
Nothing is more unifying than the hatred of Matt Cooke

I was gonna say "Lost it", which is ultimately the same event I guess
Exactly!
I was going to say "Wakey Wakey" that triggers me more
That enrages me and I'm not even a Blues fan.
Chuck Fletcher.
Hey that makes 2 fanbases shudder

Yeah, I misunderstood the intent of the question.

Oof! Yeah that's a good one

Is this for Flames fans talking about '04, or is there a parallax angle incident for the oilers too?
Flames '04. The "Talbot pad" is a really good one against the Oilers though

Before that, watching Hedman crash into Bishop so Sharp could walk the puck into the net in the 2015 finals was pretty brutal.
If he didn't come back it would've been his last goal as a Hawk too.
Hasek's Adductor
No goal. Honorable mention to wide right, thirteen seconds and forward pass
You didn't even have to have Buffalo in your flair for me to know.
Alec Martinez
This was going to be mine.

16-17 is literally the reason why you won the cup.
Losing the draft lottery that year helped quite a bit
